  • Melba’s place is a cute little place that has everything you need for your stay. Very clean and Melba was a great host.

    Jade2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Melba is an exceptional host. Her place is spotless with plenty of room. The space is extremely comfortable not to even mention how amazing the bed and pillows are. I found out she is a beautician once I got here with her own shop so if you are a lady staying here this is the absolute perfect stay. I was able to get waxed and my hair done and she is one of the best for that. I would recommend booking here anytime it can’t be beat. I absolutely loved my stay.

  • Really nice house and very clean. Not far from hiking at Hoosier National Forest. The town of Loogootee doesn’t have much to offer as far as restaurants, but Jasper is about 20 minutes south and that offered more. I would recommend this house to couples and families. The price to stay was very reasonable and I’d definitely go back and stay again.

  • This is a spacious unit with 2 bedrooms upstairs. It was nice to have coffee and some other condiments available for our use. There were a lot of options of things to do within 30 min of the home and it was only a few min to several stores.

This is NOT your average place. :-) Somewhere between a resort and camping, Lost River Hostel is a nonprofit arts and cultural center located on a 16+ acre hillside in West Baden Springs. With the farmhouse on a hillside and the guesthouse in the forest, the hostel is a hub of conversation and inspiration. We offer a free dinner just after our nightly gratitude circle and also ask that our guests help with a simple chore in the morning to help contribute to the well being of Lost River.
There are wonderful places in this world that inspire us such as mountains, cathedrals, forests, fields, caves, and the sea. People inspire us too. Those who teach, who lead by example, who create, who perform, who follow their passions, and who radiate kindness. Those people that give you the sense of “if they can do it, so can I!” The Lost River Hostel blends both of these things; striving to build and maintain an extraordinary space fueled by a constant cycle of generosity and creativity. We hope everyone who stays here will go back into the world refreshed and rejuvenated – wanting to be better people and do great things. While there is no central religious belief system of those who live/work at the hostel, we do believe in making the world a better place and constantly learning new things as we go by providing a distraction-free, reflective space. In greater efforts to do this, we will also be hosting workshops and events related to music, writing, yoga, organic gardening, cooking, and environmental sustainability.
The joined towns of West Baden and French Lick are a beautiful little tourist spot located 3 minutes from the hostel. There you will find: West Baden Springs Hotel and Gardens / The cute downtown of French Lick / Paoli Peaks Skiing / Hoosier National Forest / The Shirley Creek Trail / French Lick Winery & Restaurant / Wilstem Ranch/Zip Lines / Indoor Karting / Big Splash Indoor Water Park / French Lick Casino
  • Coming here is always a wonderful experience. The hosts are super welcoming. If you love nature and art, definitely check this place out!

    Emily2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a wonderfully transformative place full of good company and lots of laughs! I will miss this place until I’m back again!

    Montana2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I came to the Lost River Hostel needing a cheap place to stay for a business trip, but left with many new friendships and a renewed thirst for life. The main house is oozing with character, and the downstairs living area fosters connection between people of all backgrounds. It was cold and rainy for much of my stay, but I still enjoyed hiking the property and having a much-needed detox from the stressors of the outside world. I cannot recommend this place enough if you are at a point in your life where you need some peace and quiet to think, to meet new open-minded people, or to reevaluate your direction in life. I can say with certainty, I'm better off having stayed here.

    Alex2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing!

    Kevin2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a well thought-out and unique place to stay.

    Nancy2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The place is just as it is described. Not your typical stay but so much fun and lots of unique features. It is camping with an air conditioned private room with a bed! The staff was super friendly and we got to meet new people from very different walks of life! Wish we had more time to spend with the staff. They were a very neat group of guys! Overall the experience was very unique and would love to return when we have more time to enjoy all it has to offer!

    Chad2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Lost River Hostel. As always, the kindness of the staff & beauty of the location are outstanding. Thank you, Scott & staff, for a relaxing time 'away from it all'.

    Angela2019-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lost River is a gem! The staff were all wonderful hosts and made us feel at home as soon as we met them. The guesthouse was whimsical and a wonderful place to hang out and get some rest. Be sure to take time to enjoy/walk the grounds, take a relaxing hot shower, and hang out with the wonderful staff around the fire. A perfect mix of camping and vacationing. Pack some shoes for hiking and you’re set for a great weekend getaway! We will definitely be back soon for this hidden piece of paradise.

This home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. It is on a steep hill. If you walk down to the bottom of the hill, you are in the town of French Lick.
  • This place is wonderful to stay at. Everything is clean, comfortable, and clearly communicated. She makes sure basic daily necessities are taken care of (hair dryer, coffee, cooking spray, wine openers, etc). It is close walking distance to quite a few places to shop and eat, and you can easily walk to the French Lick hotel, where a free trolley can take you to the other part of town. We loved everything about our stay!

Julia was quick with responding with any questions we had. Anytime I messaged her I always got a reply within 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend this beautiful home!

  • Great place for a family to stay. Clean, comfortable and near to all of your French Lick activities. We especially enjoyed the fooseball table and playing board games of an evening by the fire.

My place is close to French Lick Villas are within a short 15 min walk to down town French Lick, boasting multiple restaurants, shops, and even a museum. Also a 15 min walk to the famous French Lick Resort and Casino. . You’ll love my place because of the cozy space, with a secluded feel, but close to town.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
This is a cozy one bedroom upstairs unit in a 2 unit villa. I use the downstairs unit during this week long period. There is a TV in the bedroom and a TV in the common area. There is no HDMI cables on the TVs, but there is wifi if you want to bring your own electronics. There is a jetted hot tub in the bedroom and a shower in the bathroom. Also a front deck and a private back deck in the bedroom. A washer/dryer is shared in the villa. Guests also receive cards to access the French Lick Springs Resort. You can use the indoor/outdoor pools. Guests also get 10% off selected activities in the hotel. The adjacent hotel offers 3 golf courses, bowling alley and game room, several restaurants, gym, spa, and casino. The town is a 15 min walk, and offers many restaurants and bars. The local festival is during this rental period as well. I love this place and hope you will too
This unit is a short walk, up a steep hill, nestled in a wooded area. Deer and wildlife are abundant in these woods. The area is very close to the local 400 room hotel and casino, and to the town at the bottom of the hill.

  • Very nice people that own this can't wait to stay there myself. I booked the room for my elderly mom and aunt sort of by mistake (I did not read the accommodations well lol) they survived the night but have no plans to ever try a hostel again. With that said they were pleased with how nice Scott was to them. They knew they did not fit in haha but said it was clean and a neat place for the younger more adventurous people if the world. They were treated very well and said it was very clean. Thanks for taking extra great care of them and for the flashlight you brought to them to cross the grounds more safely at night. It was definitely an adventure for them 😆

Scott was super friendly and helpful. He fixed a delicious dinner. I enjoyed a rooftop bath under the stars And a bike ride through the beautiful countryside. We will definitely be coming back and I would recommend this place to anyone

  • This house is so cute! It had lots of amenities, smelled great, very cozy furniture. Practical location. I loved everything about it.

    Bethany2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful home was extremely clean, stylish, cozy, etc and the personal touches were phenomenal! Even her neighbors were amazing! I parked on the wrong street and the neighbor came outside and offered to let me park in her driveway for the night!

  • Jessica is a amazing host and is prompt to answer any questions you may have. The house has everything you need for a nice getaway. Parking is on a steep hill but we didn’t have any problems.

    Amanda2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Jessica's. She knew we would need the extra air mattress, so she had it all set up and prepared when we arrived. She has wonderful extra touches available in the home. This house truly did feel like being at home.

    Susan2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Another great stay! I’m sure we’ll be back and will also recommend to friends.

    John2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jessica’s place was more than expected. I actually purchased the stay as a gift to my parents and they were so pleased! Wonderful hospitality and communication. I can’t wait to go back!

    Madison2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this place as it was affordable and close enough to Paoli Peaks for a weekend snowboarding trip. Unfortunately, due to the warm winter the mountain was closed so we came anyway and I am SO GLAD we did. We were able to walk around downtown, the three restaurants we went to during our stay were amazing. And Jessica was so sweet and helpful! We spent most of our time just relaxing, the house is so peaceful and clean. Jessica is so thoughtful with coffee, snacks, games. It was the perfect weekend away and we are already trying to plan our next stay here.

  • Spectacular! My family with 3 young children stayed while visiting family in the area over the holidays and I’m so glad we did. The price was comparable to the hotels in the area but at an unbelievable value. We had so much space to stretch out and relax. The house had beautiful decor and modern amenities mixed with “old house” charm. There were so many thoughtful touches that made it feel like home and it was spotlessly clean from front to back—my compliments to the thoughtful host and housekeepers. We would absolutely stay again!

  • The Gray House greatly exceeded our expectations! We really needed a weekend away for some quality family time and the setup of the house was just perfect for this. Nice open concept in kitchen, dining area and living room area allowed for kids to play board games while we cooked and could still interact with the them. Amazingly well stocked coffee and hot chocolate bar; two kinds of hot chocolate, several coffee options, several sweetener options, several creamer options, has keurig with pods and also the pod that allows you to use loose grounds with the keurig, to go coffee cups also provided. Many snacks and extras available, which my kids enjoyed. Even had fresh fruit there for us. Kitchen is very well stocked; there is even a crockpot available. The only thing I needed that I couldn't find was a whisk; I imagine not many people on vacation or a weekend getaway need a whisk. Everything in the kitchen works well. The sink is a little small and there is no dishwasher, so keep that in mind if you plan to do much cooking. There is also only one television and it is located in the downstairs media room. This was not an issue for my family, but could see how if you had very young kids wanting to watch cartoons and older kids or adults not wanting to, this might be something to consider so you could bring a laptop or tablet. The Wifi connection was amazing and we never had any service issues. Nice comfortable beds, plenty of nice pillow including extras we never needed; same with blankets. Also, plenty of nice towels; we were never in danger of running out. The lane back to the house is nice and long making the house secluded. We saw turkeys right outside the windows and several deer not far from the house. If there are night lights, I did not see or find them, so if this is something you need, pack a few. Entry into the home was easy. Shema was very helpful with information about questions I had regarding local activities. She also has a very quick response time. There are several fun family appropriate board games provided as well. Several books in one of the bedrooms also. Another nice touch was a bottle of water and two glasses in bedrooms. House was also very comfortable in terms of temperature; not at all drafty or cold. We had a great stay and would definitely consider staying again if we are ever back in that area.

  • This home is beautiful, comfortable and spacious! Our family had a great week here. The amenities were over the top! The location was central to our intended destinations. The layout was perfect for a family with teens, outdoor exploring, tv room and balconies. We hope to return next year.

  • It was a great place to stay with friends. It was secluded but not to far from town! I would recommend staying here!

    Shelly2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We love Gray House, have probably stayed here six times since we began working in the area. Beautiful home, totally secluded, very generous amenities. Coffee station is tip top, kitchen has anything you need to cook, love having coffee on deck(when it's not freezing out!). Love that TV is in downstairs den so sound doesn't carry to bedrooms. Great value.

  • I booked this for my mom and her best friend. They wanted to meet halfway between their homes (Cincinnati and St. Louis) and hang for a couple days. They raved about the house and their photos are adorable. It was perfect for them to chill and drink wine but they also loved that they could walk to restaurants and shops. They also drove out to the winery and enjoyed it. They’re already planning a trip back! Both my mom and myself communicated with Kathy and she’s so lovely. Definitely recommend staying!

  • My only go-to place when we are in French Lick. Never disappoints.

    Craig2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Location is perfect if you want to walk and explore the little downtown of French Lick or the French Lick Resort. Can take the train for free on to West Baden Hotel, which is a must. Public shuttle will also take you most places for free. But the location is also close enough if you don't feel like walking or waiting for your ride and just want to drive. Ample space, but cozy at the same time. Comfy beds, spacious kitchen, private patio with grill. Check-in and out was easy and Kathy communicated well.

    Brandie2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem! It was so comfy and cute. As soon as we walked in, we were impressed. The space is definitely bigger than it looks on the listing! The kitchen was clean and had everything you could need. The living spaces were comfortable and perfect for a small group of friends! Sleeping arrangements were great, too. We will definitely be back!

"The Farmhouse" is located in rural Lawrence County, 9 miles west of Bedford. An active small farm operation situated on 156 beautiful acres, this is the place to stay for peace, quiet, and relaxation. A quaint limestone farmhouse on the longest homesteaded property in the county. The property has been in our family since 1823. Enjoy the cool breeze on the front porch, hike the property, spot wildlife, wade in the huge creek, and enjoy the peaceful tranquility of "getting away from it all".
We offer quiet living in a 65 year old farmhouse, which has recently been rejuvenated. A large picture window in the living room gives a view of the barns, hayfields, and corn fields. Beautiful, refinished natural hardwood floors grace the living room and master bedroom. In addition to the cozy living room, there are two bedrooms, one bath, a beautiful farm kitchen (refinished original built-in cabinets), and a dining room. The master bedroom is furnished with an extremely comfortable queen sized bed. There is even a refurbished 100+ year old headboard from the original farmhouse. The second bedroom contains a queen sized bed, plus a twin loft bed. If sleeping for five is not enough, we can provide either a twin or queen sized air mattress and bedding. The bathroom is small, like most farmhouses, however it has a new tub/shower combo and has been totally updated. We provide a wide variety of board games, playing cards, books, and DVD's. There is a TV and DVD player, a drop leaf game table, and crafts (if you are feeling creative). There is VERY limited cell service and no land telephone line. Remember, this is a place to get away, recharge, and relax. Outside the house, the possibilities are endless. You can enjoy the quiet countryside on the front porch swing during warmer months. You can even wave at one of the very few vehicles that will drive past throughout the day. Go for a hike on the property – maybe you can find the cool fresh water spring, the throne "a unique rock formation", or some other amazing sight. Indian Creek runs along one side of the property and is full of fish and wildlife – wade in the cool water if you would like. A large front yard provides the perfect place for the kids to run and play. Sit around the fire pit and enjoy the peaceful evening. There are lots of woods and countryside to explore all around. Let us know if you would like a guided adventure. There is a coffee and tea bar awaiting when you arrive. The solid wood dining room table provides seating for eight. Feel free to prepare meals, utilizing the dishes, cookware, utensils, and basics in the kitchen. The fridge and freezer are empty and waiting for you to stock with your favorite foods. We will provide linens, basic cleaning supplies, and trash can liners for your convenience. There will also be towels and complimentary travel size toiletries available.
"The Farmhouse" is in the rural countryside. As such, do not expect to walk out the door into a thriving metropolitan area. That is exactly the thing we love about this place! On our 3 mile road there are only 6 other homes, including ours. Even though we are located in a quiet, remote area, there are plenty of great places within driving distance for you and your family - see guidebook for details. Another great use of "The Farmhouse" is for those who may be on a business trip to NSA Crane. We are located just two miles from the Bedford Crane gate and just 10 miles from the Bloomington Crane gate.
  • What a wonderful place! If you like hiking and exploring nature, peace and quiet, look no further! Karen is such a sweetheart and her attention to detail, quick communication and the abundance of information (both for the homestead and the surrounding area) made this the perfect, stress free weekend get away for me and my best friend. We have already started talking about when we can come back and bring the kids next time!

  • This place is all around excellent. It was immaculately clean, and so comfortable for our family of 5. We have a 5,2, and 10 month old and even though there’s only two bedrooms it was pleasantly perfect. The older two slept in the bunk beds, and I had enough room to put the baby in the pack n play in the same room as well. The master queen bed is a bit soft, so not great for anyone with back issues FYI. The other beds were fine. We loved the kitchen/dining combo. My kids could do activities at the table while I cooked. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to include utensils, pans, wine opener, spices, oil, sugar, and flour. I cooked nearly every meal so I used a lot. It also has lots of appliances to include a keurig with provided coffees and apple cider. The kids loved waking up to see the cows so close in the pasture around the house. We took a small walk around the property and had it not rained we would’ve checked out the creek, but it was just so muddy from rain. There is no cell service or internet at the farmhouse, which for us was mostly no big deal. We like being disconnected on vacation, but it did pose a slight issue with navigating to our desired destinations. We’d have to drive to a neighboring town to get service to navigate. They do provide a local map, but a few of our locations were off the local map. The have great suggestions on things to do/see and places to eat. They also provided dvds, coloring books/crayons, books, kids books, and do have dish. Everything about this place shows they take pride in it. The little details like the shower shampoo/conditioner/soap was a huge help since I forgot that stuff. Highly recommend.

  • Great place very clean , great host, country setting, but, only minutes to city if needed. Has all the comforts of home. Will definitely stay again.

  • Karen is very kind and everything was well done. The property is beautiful and it is very peaceful there.

    James2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great base for anyone visiting Spring Mill State Park or the surrounding area. It's a beautiful location and a comfy home. Nice assortment of games, and the Keurig and breakfast bars were greatly appreciated. Would definitely come back for another stay.

    Robin2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at the farmhouse, and it was every bit as delightful as the first time. The home is always sparkling clean, and Karen always leaves thoughtful touches like little snacks and coffee. In addition, she went out of her way to provide us some movies based on my kids conversation with her when we first checked in. It was very thoughtful and much appreciated. If you are looking for some quiet solitude, and a home away from home in the Bedford/Bloomington area, I would highly recommend staying at the farmhouse.

    Scott2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to just get away from it all for a couple days or a week look no further !!! You wont have cell or internet service at the house, but you will have the peace and quiet that we all need sometimes. There is a small country store and a one pump gas station 5 minutes away for any items you need or might have forgotten. GREAT place to decompress.

    Len2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was so sweet and met us at the door. Ahe had prepared some really helpful resources for local activities. The farm house was cute and clean and secluded. The area was so beautiful and relaxing. Definitely recommend.

Thank you again for another great weekend!

  • 100% one of the best Airbnb experiences I’ve had! This house was even better in person than the pictures. We stayed here for a wedding with a few other couples and there was so much space for everyone. Plenty of sleeping room and we even had plenty of space for 6 girls to get ready the morning of the wedding. Not only was there plenty of space but EVERYTHING in this house was comfortable. The couches, the beds and the over all feel. We really loved the special touch of fall all over the house and the extra amenities. It made our trip that much better. It was also very convenient to walk every where we needed to go. I would stay here every time I come to French Lick!

    Kristy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay, you are withing walking distance from most social activities and even the neighbors are super friendly. I would definitely recommend them to my friends or family.

  • This house was the perfect option for us! We were celebrating a friend’s 40th birthday and nothing was short of amazing! Super clean, welcoming home. The beds were comfortable and you got the best of both worlds with historic charm, but amenities of today. Walking distance to everything you need, which was a plus for us! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home and experience French Lick!

  • Lost River Hostel is a wonderful and unique experience! The host and members of the hostel are fantastic, so warm and welcoming. The property is beautiful! You won't find a prettier spot, located on the edge of a National Forest and just down the road from two historic resort hotels in the quaint towns of West Baden - French Lick. If you read the description of the property, it's very accurate. This is a communal style hostel experience on the edge of beautiful woods and river, with a spring fed swimming hole, free-range chickens happily roaming the yard, and a beautiful old farm home full of exceptionally cool people, a warm meal, and lots of music if you're lucky enough be there at the right time! The rooms are uniquely designed, charming, comfortable, and very clean. And you can't beat the price for a room and a meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at LRH and will be coming back!

  • We didn't quite know what we were getting into and just wanted to leave the city for a little. This wonderfully hippie treehouse, green space was great. We loved the community aspect and space. From the compost toilets, to the muddy walk to and fro the cabin to the main house, to community dinner each night. I recommend this stay for longer than one night and in the warmer, dry seasons. We lucked out with unusually warmer but rainy weather. If you are looking to feel welcomed and appreciate and are a social being, I recommend. We look forward to bringing our families in the future and maybe some interaction with the free range chickens and that clay lagoon.

  • WOW! I was blown away by my stay at the Lost River Hostel. This stay will put you in the woods of Indiana, and for a very reasonable list price you’ll have access to daily homemade dinners, outdoor showers/bathtub, walking paths, a swimming hole, and connections with some truly incredible people. I arrived during dinner on my first night and was immediately greeted in the main house by Alex, the hostel’s current manager. The cooks that night had kindly accommodated my request for a vegetarian option (and it was absolutely DELICIOUS). After dinner I was given a tour of the beautiful property, followed by a dip in the pond and hanging around the bonfire with the other guests and staff members. The following day, the staff had organized a trip to explore a nearby cave, but I instead decided on some self-care time walking the trails of the grounds and bathing in the outdoor bathtub; glorious and restorative moments beneath the cover of the forest. Later in the day I had another dinner with the guests / staff and made more connections around the bonfire, connecting over our lived experiences, favorite books, passions, etc. Everyone was incredibly kind and open. This is not your typical Airbnb experience. Come with the expectation of meeting others and breathing in the fresh air around you. Come knowing that the best place to be is in the common spaces, not in the confines of the basic rooms. Come with a spirit of cooperation and openness to others. This place is a DREAM - do not hesitate to book this living experience!

    Olivia2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The place was completely in the nature, and they offered us dinner that was soo good..we hope to see them again:)

  • Cozy little gem in the peaceful woods. Amazing hospitality (invited to eat dinner with staff and other travelers), unique accommodations(swimming hole, outdoor shower, compostable toilets), and fun art drawn on inside walls of rooms.

    Elizabeth2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lost River Hostel is truly a magical gem in southern Indiana. It is a space that promotes healing, connects like-minded people and allows for retreat in nature. There are no strangers when you’re at the hostel and that’s one thing that I love the most. 😊

    Kara2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Hostel is a magical place. Scott and the community here are really building something special and it was an honor to be a guest to be included in their world. It really does seem to be a place based on trust, empathy, and love of voluntary simplicity. We stayed in the winter cabin and Scott very kindly gave us access to the adjacent bedroom, which my daughter loved. We got to explore at sunrise and watch the world quietly stretch awake and there was coffee waiting in the main house. Lost River is truly a great place to reconnect and disconnect and we we’re fortunate to have found it.

    Rachel2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you do not like the outdoors this is not the place for you. This place is great at an amazing price. Very chill and good vibes. Scott was very accommodating and easy going. Very satisfied with this experience.

  • My wife and I were a little leary staying at someones house since we have never done it before. Gene was a wonderful host the house was outstanding. It was better than big chain hotels we have stayed at on Clearwater beach Fl. I wound not hesitate to stay with Gene again.
