Places to stay in Ramah

Places to stay in Ramah
This light and airy apartment have everything you need, whether for one night or a week. Enjoy a hike in the piñon/juniper woods that surround our property, and take our dogs with you. (No leash needed they know the way!). Explore local Anasazi ruins and watch the Milky Way at night and listen to the coyotes howl. We are in the heart of Indian Country surrounded by the Navajo and Zuni Reservation, and midway between Santa Fe and Flagstaff or Sedona. We are an hour from Gallup and Grants.
Our Apt/guest house is close to several areas of interest (El Morro and El Malpais National Monument ), the Zuni Pueblo and the Navajo Nation. The Ramah area incorporates a very diverse and vibrant community, with a local art gallery, coffee shop, organic food store and restaurant. The Ramah Farmers' Market offers a variety of local produce on Saturdays in the summer. The cottage is complete with full bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette (small fridge, electric frying pan, toaster oven, microwave and basic supplies, cooking utensils and silverware), queen size bed (with a memory foam mattress), wi fi, gas fireplace, DVD player and plenty of parking (including plenty of space for an RV or campervan). A rollaway single bed is also available upon request, although this is really only suitable for a child or small person. In summer there are two chairs and a table outside the cottage entrance, to enjoy morning or evening drinks. But you are also welcome to join us on the back porch during the summer months. Guests have access to the entire guest house and surrounding 10 acres and beyond. You need to walk through the main house courtyard to the guest cottage which has it's own entrance. (The guest house is attached to the garage which also has a separate entrance). No public transportation. Stock up with supplies before you arrive. There is a local organic grocery store and a convenience store in Ramah. Bring all alcohol, the closest place to buy is 40 miles away! We do provide some breakfast supplies (coffee, tea, yogurt, and granola bars). We do encourage guests to shop at the local organic store whenever possible, in order to support our community. Please note our water is very drinkable, we do discourage the buying of water in plastic bottles. If you do need to do this please take the plastic bottle(s) with you as we have no way of recycling them in this area. Thanks!
The beauty of the landscape and the community of people in the area is what makes this a unique area.

  • Will and I stopped over at Chris & Mike’s place on our way to Monument Valley and had the most peaceful and relaxing stay. Mike was so kind and generously gave us a map of his favourite viewing spot of MV and restaurant suggestions. He has 2 gorgeous dogs and a cat which love cuddles. The air bnb is full of natural light and warmth. We loved it. Thank you Mike!

  • We loved this cozy cottage. It was a great house for our trip. Very clean and lots and lots of towels and toilet paper. Great location for our hunting trip. Everything was provided and more. Colleen and her husband were very accommodating and ready to help with anything that we needed. We accidentally turned off the heater and wasn’t able to start it and 5 minutes later, Colleen’s husband came over and got it started. The area and neighbors were awesome! Neighbors were very friendly and helpful!!!! We would rent this cozy cottage again! Thank you Colleen and company for a great stay!

This Cabin is totally off grid - Solar. It has its own driveway. Kitchen, shower. It is QUIET. The cabin is on 7 acres - perfect for pleasant walks and hiking. It has a large fenced dog run. Within an hour of El Morro Monument, The Ice Caves, Zuni Pueblo, Ancient Way Cafe, Pine Hill Market. The night sky is magnificient. Grocery shopping in either Grants or Gallup is recommended. When heat is a nice and/or absolutely necessary - the cabin is heated with a wood burning heater.
The Cabin in the Woods is a place that is QUIET. A perfect disconnect from cell phones and internet. A place that your own voice can find you in the whisper of the wind and the chatter of the leaves. Just enough folks around if you want to be with locals and enough space that you can spend your time with nature and your companions. Wifi and phone available at owners in case of emergency.
Spring is here! A perfect time to come to Cabin in the Woods and refresh your winter worn spirit. Hike, enjoy the unhurried peace and quiet of our Enchanted Ridge. It is a private, quiet and scenic area that affords the opportunity to take walks and explore at your leisure.
  • Stephanie and Craig were immensely helpful, hospitable, and kind throughout the entire duration of my stay. They went above and beyond any Airbnb host I've experienced. This place was perfect for my needs, and is very isolated. I ended up leaving sooner than I anticipated, and they were very accommodating and helpful. Small problems were immediately solved without delay. Craig even let me use his fine wood shop for a day to build a tobacco smoking pipe. He was more than happy to help and supply all the materials. There is some magic in that mountain desert, something I never experienced before. And even though I left after finishing my project, the further away I drove the greater the pull was to return to that hallowed ancient ground, where inspiration streamed like sunlight and wise elk tread the frozen ground. This is without question the best experience I've had with Airbnb by several orders of magnitude. Thanks again to Craig and Stephanie, two wonderful people to whom I wish every happiness.

    Tareq2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very peaceful and cozy! Great space to disconnect.

    Sarah2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A bit hard to find, but worth it! Extremely lovely hosts, beautiful land, all the amenities you need for a cozy visit.

    Beth2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabin and gorgeous area to walk around. There is a huge fenced in area for dogs.

    Matthew2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable, quiet, and a nice place for my dogs. Stephanie was great in getting my fire for the wood stove started the first night. Plenty of hot water and surprisingly an electric coffee maker even on solar and batteries. The propane refrigerator was much quieter than an electric one and kept things cold. The propane cooking stove has starters so no matches needed.

    Karen2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great off the grid experience!

    Tim2019-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • I unfortunately did not get to actually stay here due to unforeseen travel issues but Stephanie was so kind, helpful, and accommodating throughout everything. I was not to arrive until very late and she was very nice about the odd hours and said she would make sure the place was warm and ready. Then when my flight was delayed several times she stayed in communication and remained kind and patient the entire time. I ended up having to cancel my plans but she was friendly the entire time and offered advice for the future. If I ever plan to come out there again I'd absolutely want to book with Stephanie! I wish I'd gotten to meet her and stay at the cabin.

    Dominique2019-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie is a gracious host - she communicated promptly, clearly, and with a warm welcome. Her cabin is remarkable. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully stocked. We enjoyed hot showers and the warmth of a wood fire. The kitchen, complete with supplies, allowed us to cook our meals with ease. The cabin's location is magical. It is ideally situated to visit a number of local attractions. However, Stephanie's property is a destination in itself. We all enjoyed climbing rocks, hiking, encountering wildlife, listening to the rustling leaves and relaxing - all just outside the cabin's door. We highly recommend it!

  • We had a fantastic time at Jeff's guest room!! The views are spectacular, their breakfasts were huge and delicious, inscription rock is a fun day trip and just a short drive away, and they have a lovely cat that is so friendly and sat with us on the porch as we enjoyed our breakfasts. If you are looking to stay somewhere unique and off the grid, this is a great option.

  • When my mother awoke in the morning she exclaimed with a big smile, “THIS is the kind of place I like to stay in!!” Beautiful views, comfortable bed, nicely decorated. Our stay was short but glad we got to experience this place. We arrived in the dark after loosing cell service. Our google map stopped working we drove a bit too far, but when we found the right place by accident Jeff was there waiting for us by the trailers. Would love to come back!

  • Mountain Harmony, how can I write a review that can explain how beautiful this property truly is ??!! My fiancé and I stayed at Mountain Harmony for 4 nights. Waking up to the surrounds of this farmhouse/apartment is beyond words. It’s like a living painting! You have a huge deck that you can access from the master bedroom, we had coffee and lunch on the deck ;) There are VIEWS I mean Views for miles of the New Mexico desert... the rich colors of red and oranges painted on the hills, gorgeous ! There is Literally a view in every room of this place. The kitchen/stovetop Views as you cook, the Bathroom/shower Views (has privacy shade), the Master-bed room Views and access to the deck! Throughout the unit of this apartment the tile/floors are heated as well! We enjoyed our stay, we enjoyed the Harmony this place has given us the memories we shared, but most importantly we enjoyed each other’s company the disconnect from the busy world and the reconnect with each other ... We look forward to future visits. Thank you Jeff & Marcie !

There is a projector and screen in the living room that you can use to watch your favorite shows. Make yourself at home in the living room and dining room, too. The glorious picture windows wash our home with natural sunlight and an open, airy feel. The front porch, with a small table and chairs and a swing, is perfect for a sundowner or an early morning coffee! The colors of the sky as the sun sets are incredible. The backyard is a true oasis--even with a small cowboy, stock-tank pool that you are free to use. It is awesome after a long hike, bike ride or downtown shopping :) ! The home is safe and secure and in a safe neighborhood. We have AC window units in the bedrooms and in the living room.
The views in Gallup and around are breathtaking! We know you'll enjoy Gallup. The house is downtown so within walking distance to the downtown restaurants, galleries, and trading posts. The La Montanita Co-op grocery store is a short walk away and bigger grocery stores are a quick drive away. Each Saturday in the summer, there is a small farmer's market in town, too, that is a perfect stop for your fresh fruits and veggies! The yoga studio, fitness center, and a spa (which I am sure would be luxurious after a long day of travel!) are all a short walk away. The best Gallup attraction is the Indian Dances at City Hall every summer night at 7pm. The house is, again, just a short walk away! Sometimes you'll even hear the music from the front porch!
  • It's a nice place.

  • Caitlyn and Cas (the owners) and Mallory and Cristian (the managers) are communicative, thoughtful, and a dream to work (and live) with. I enjoyed my three months on Logan Ave at their place— meeting new roommates every so often kept things interesting. It’s close to the local hospitals that I worked at and in a neighborhood that felt safe— lots of people walking their dogs, families walking kids to school in the morning, fun southwestern plants, and a great little free library. The kitchen was stocked with essentials, the laundry in the basement was so nice, and my room (complete with nice linens and a terry cloth room) was comfy. A great experience and I’d stay longer if I could.

  • Caitlyn and Cas are wonderful hosts. Their home is comfortable and relaxing to be in. The backyard is a pleasant retreat that can be enjoyed next to an outdoor fire in the colder weather.

  • Caitlyn is great! Place is very cozy, stylish, and clean. She went out of her way to make me feel at home. I almost felt like a personal guest of hers instead of someone who was renting a room. I highly recommend this place.

  • I stayed here for 29 days. Clean quiet comfortable. Staff is friendly and helpful. Checking in was easy and they have a key drop which makes checking out easy. The room heater works fantastic and will keep you warm in the winter months. Located right off the freeway provides easy access for passing travelers or home base for people looking to explore the surrounding sites. There is plenty of parking including space for vehicles towing trailers.

This is a Navajo Hogan, 1 large room, dirt floor, wood stove with wood provided, has electric, 1 queen bed and 1 twin bed with sheets and blankets, and 2 extra cots. 2 outhouses, no showers. Guests are welcome to chop woods, have an outdoor campfire and check out our permaculture landscape set up. We have wifi, but it is weak.
We were married in this Hogan, raised our three kids here, and our current home is just next door. It is a beautiful and sacred space if you like humble 'rez' living. We are happy to answer questions or discuss any details.
Rez. Close to many hiking trails around Gallup.
  • This was a special stay. It is so generous of Anthony and Melinda to open up their hogan to visitors. They hosted us on late notice, had a fire going for us when we arrived, and the stacks of blankets and quilts made us feel right at home. It was a cold night, but we were warm and snug all night long. We appreciated the clean outhouse and bowl for face and hand washing. Bring your own cups, plates, etc. Our hosts provided a fridge, toaster oven, and coffee/water pots along with drinking water. Waking up to the frosty desert outside our door was priceless and we recommend this stay for anyone who wants a truly unique New Mexico experience.

    Mattie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a unique experience this is it. You need to understand that you are roughing it a bit here. But the trade off is peace and quiet, star watching, plenty of space and a real New Mexico experience. We stayed in January. The wood stove was heating the room when we arrived and was easy to keep burning through the night. It was a short walk to a porta potty, neither is difficult and worth the trade off. Plenty of blankets we were comfortable at 55 degrees inside even though it was 18 outside. A worthwhile experience.

    Frank2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The hogan was just what we expected -- a peaceful place. Our daughters loved pulling the cozy papasan chair up to the wood stove and wrapping themselves up in the blankets and quilts. They also loved playing with Chaco and Melinda's kids. The outdoor fire and roasted marshmallows were a treat. The night we stayed, the temperature got down to 8 degrees F, which was very very very cold, so we did have to feed the wood stove several times throughout the night to keep it warm in the hogan.

    Jessica2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay in the yellow Hogan with Anthony and Melinda. We love it!

  • I absolutely loved it. It was something my mom and I will remember forever.

    Kaitlyn2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Unforgettable experience. Fire burning stove kept me warm & cozy during a 20 degree night!

    Alex2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described! Wonderful place with friendly hosts, including Lando the dog. The Host met us despite us arriving near 9 pm to advise on the stove and other accommodations!

    Kyle2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Sadly we arrived after dark and had to leave relatively early however we were greeted by the host and shown to get the fire going which kept us lovely and warm on a chilly night. Toilet only a short walk from the hogan and easy to heat up water to wash on top of the stove. Beds were super comfy and we were able to shoot bow and chop wood in the early morning. Great experience wish we had been able to stay longer!

This is our second home, and we hope you love it as much as we do! Trails and stunning red rocks are right out back. Our house has all the comforts of home, plenty of coffee and tea, a well-stocked kitchen, and lots of space to relax. Our place is eco-friendly and is decorated with local art. Get cozy with a fire in the winter, or doze in the backyard hammock in the summer. Gallup is a great town for nature, art, and culture. All the nature photos were taken behind our house.
Our house is in a safe neighborhood, a few miles from town center. The house has an open plan, and is very private. Although we have fans, our house does not have central air or a swamp cooler. In the summer, evening temps drop to the 60s but some may prefer a place with central cooling.
    Very safe, tons of hiking

  • Amazing place, amazing host! Sonya is extremely responsive, helpful, and welcoming. The house is perfect, spacious, clean, equipped with anything you'd need, and tastefully furnished/decorated; hills in the back are beautiful; lovely back patio with picnic table looking out onto the hills a most pleasant spot; location extremely convenient both to the outdoors and to Gallup. Neighborhood safe and pleasant. Highly recommend! We were fortunate to stay here.

    Hannah2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Spent a week in Sonya’s place and loved being able to cook our own meals after a day of hiking. The Hogbacks are right out the back so we enjoyed some lovely hikes right close by. We made day trips to El Morro and Petrified Forest National Park. The neighborhood was quiet and lovely. It was cold and snowy the whole week, so we were happy to return to a warm house after our daily adventures.

When you stay at the El Rancho Hotel, you will be sleeping in a room where a movie star slept. But the hotel is not just about movie stars. You’ll be following in the footsteps of Americans who have traveled West, in hopes of a better life. Route 66 is the road most traveled by dreamers looking for a better life and the El Rancho is one of the cornerstones of that Westward Journey. The most important experience of all is yours. At El Rancho Hotel, you will be giving yourself the opportunity to live your own Southwest experience in one of the most authentic places in the Region. You will give yourself the chance to explore unforgettable National Parks, and feel the American Spirit. You will give yourself the chance to discover churches that date back to the Conquistadors or the chance to sit on a Mesa, far from the rest of the world, overlooking a picture-perfect sunset on your own journey.
“If there is a place to see America at its truest, it is Route 66…Route 66 is not a runner-up to any contender; it is the highway of highways…It is a mainstay of an American legend, on a par with the Alamo. It is a teacher road, a giver of perspective and lessons. Traveling Route 66 is about contemplating America…Route 66 is a 2,400 mile declaration of independence.” What is 66? Route 66 was the first continuous road between Chicago and Los Angeles. Route 66 made the West truly accessible to millions of ordinary people for the first time in American History. Route 66 opened up possibilities, opportunities, and dreams. Traveling down Route 66 today, one is drawn to these opportunities, some realized, some forgotten. And it is these dreams and these possibilities that make it the American road. Route 66 is about Freedom, freedom to travel, freedom to explore, and freedom of ideas. Across the vast landscapes of America, Route 66 allowed Jack Kerouac to live as the American Nomad. This same road gave Okies a chance for a better life during the Dust Bowl. Still others see it as the great commercial gateway that helped propel the American Commercial Spirit. Route 66 longs for motorcycles and classic cars, for towns filled with wet neon and for open spaces filled with falling stars. Route 66 has no concern for distinctions between people, where we are from or what we have done. Route 66 is about the future. It is a road where all are welcome and all can dream.

  • This stay was at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, NM and not hosted at a private residence. Never met the host. Overall this suited by purpose and was certainly an interesting hotel to stay in, having been build to house movie actors during the making of Westerns. However, it seems I could have reserved the same hotel myself at less expense.

    Michael2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We weren’t really sure what to expect but the hotel was very cute and perfectly situated close to the highway. The staff was very friendly. It’s also a little less than 15 minutes away from Red Rock Park which was a great place to hike. The hotel also allows dogs for a very small fee if it’s not a service animal. Our stay in Gallup was only a few hours overnight but if we pass through there in the future, we will definitely stay here again.

The cabin is one of five nearly identical cabins at Z-Lazy-B guest ranch. It's usually a quiet retreat, but during hunting season the other cabins fill up.
    WEEKLY AND MONTHLY DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE
Z-Lazy-B guest ranch was built around 16 years ago. It is one of several private properties nestled in Cibola National Forest. The owners, Jeanne and Mickey Fuhs both grew up on nearby ranches in the Zuni Mountains. The ranch has often hosted weddings, receptions and other gatherings over the years. During the months of September through December, many of the other cabins at Z-Lazy-B are rented by hunters.
  • We loved our stay here! The cabin is on some beautiful land and it happened to be a new moon during our stay so we were able to get some great astrophotography. We also had a friendly lab who guided us to our cabin and to the gate as we left :)

  • A quixotic place to stay!! A throwback to the 20th century which made it quirky and fun. Enjoyed hearty breakfasts all round.

  • Robin and Jon are true Superhosts. I stayed at Robin's during a 6 week medical rotation and if I were to come back to Gallup, there probably wouldn't be anywhere else I would stay at because Robin's place has everything you need, it's 5 minutes from GIMC/Rehoboth, in a safe area and has fantastic views of the sunrise in the morning. Moreover, they also let one of my friends stay over one night for no extra charge when there was a possible break in at her Airbnb. Thanks Robin and Jon for truly being wonderful and caring hosts, I hope to see you in Gallup for my next visit!

  • Lovely place, fast internet, free parking, super comfortable, great showers, good heating, nice homely feel to it, and close to the best gym in town, Wowie's. Robin and Jon are the coolest people.

  • I stayed at Jon/Robin's house for 6 weeks while I was working at RMCH for the summer. She was happy to let me bring my dog along, and the house had a large yard with a view that my dog enjoyed. The location is very convienent - less than 10 minutes drive to RMCH/GIMC and to grocery stores. There are also nearby walking/hiking trails, parks, and a dog park. She was very responsive and quick to fix any problems that arose. Overall, I had a great experience here and would recommend it for anyone that is looking for a place to stay for a few weeks or more in Gallup.

  • Clean and quiet area, you still hear the train goes but the noise is very faint which won't bother much those living in the city. Location on hill top, good view around.

  • The home was great. Perfect space for what we needed. The beds were comfy and especially pillows! And the couch was great as well. Beautiful views and porch. The only downfall was no AC (which is totally common in Gallup so it’s not out of the ordinary just took a little getting used to!) Pearl made sure we had new and perfectly white clean towels and she was even sweet enough to leave bananas and apples and water for us to enjoy. We are so grateful and thoroughly enjoyed our visit (aside from the fact we came for a funeral) but everything else made it a great trip. Thanks pearl!

  • What a gem! This home (and the art and decor) is absolutely stunning, and the location makes it so much better. Escaping the hustle and bustle of city life and coming to a place as serene as this was energizing and uplifting. Rebecca was a great host. Very helpful and quick to respond. For those that want to enjoy some adult beverages during their stay: be sure to either bring some with you, or pick some up on your way in at another town because you won’t find any wine, beer, or liquor nearby (probably an hour drive or so). We look forward to coming back here again, as it was a wonderful stay!!

  • We had a great stay here while doing a rotation in Gallup! Jill was a great host and kept in touch if I had any questions during my stay. The place was nice and in a great location for us!

  • Nice place close to town and hospital!

    Ann2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was great to stay here during my summer rotation at the hospital. Jill is quick to respond, and it only takes a quick drive from place to place from the house.

    Ariana2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house is as described. We found the kitchen to be very well stocked and functional. The Queen bed was comfortable. The location was convenient to everything. We will stay again.

    Jack2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • Great place and great location! Jill lives out of town but was extremely responsive to questions and concerns. She has friends nearby that can help if needed. We had a lot of issues with the internet but Jill helped get them resolved and I don’t think they’ll be an issue for the next guest. Overall would definitely recommend.

    Amanda2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jill was a great host, and her place was as described. Great communication, easy self check in; a nice experience all around. Thank you for hosting our provider, Jill!

    Denise2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • Jill's place is wonderful, cozy, clean, spacious, and has every piece of equipment you could hope for. It is in an area of town that is centric and known by the local physicians we worked with to be quite safe. We unfortunately experienced some bad luck while in Gallup, which included internet problems due to inclement weather and minimal concerns about crime. Storms and historical inequalities of course are beyond Jill's control, but she rose well to the occasion - contacting the internet company and installing a security system on the property. We recommend her place as well as healthy, realistic expectations when visiting the beautiful yet complicated part of the US that is Gallup.

    Haiyan2018-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Although Jill lives in another state, she communicates well over the internet and her sister is available for check-in and addressing immediate needs (not that I had any concerns). The house has pretty much anything you need for short or long term stays. You might need to search for something (the toaster was in the linen closet) but most likely, if you need something, its in the house. The neighborhood is quiet. Dogs do bark but only when they first sense you and then get quiet again. The water takes a short time to heat but then it stays hot. Overall, a good place to stay.

These comfy RVs are located in the beautiful El Morro Valley at the base of the Zuni Mountains. Let this be your home base for exploring the area or just sit back and enjoy the views. The Retreat has a workshop/conference room as well as a fully furnished self contained one bed/one bath apartment for LT or ST stays.
The RVs are situated on a historic property currently in the last phase of renovation toward becoming Mountain Harmony Retreat Center. They are comfy and cosy , have small decks and beautiful views. In the morning you will be served a gourmet plant based breakfast with vegetarian and gluten free options, prepared to order and brought into your RV. The kitchen is outfitted with all the appliances and utensils needed for the creation of your favorite lunch or dinner. There are two small markets nearby. Both markets sell organic foods as well as gluten free. The market in El Morro is three miles and another market is fifteen miles located in the quaint village of Ramah. Both markets sell basics and local produce. Ramah also has a seasonal Saturday Farmer's market.
Mountain Harmony Retreat is beside the Cibola National Forest. Beautiful cliffs and mountains covered with junipers, pines, etc are in every direction. There are cliffs banded with red rock and the sunsets are unbelievably beautiful. If you've staying in the apartment in the retreat, you have your own personal second story deck while having your morning coffee and the views are spectacular. The night skies are gorgeous, it's quiet, peaceful.
  • Mark and Jeff were super. The place is so peaceful and the perfect place to go off the grid. This place has a lot of history, Mark and Jeff have done a wonderful job in preserving the history on their property. They have hiking trails that are breathtaking. Along the hiking trails you will see the history of the property along with cliff dwelling ruins which are amazing to see. We really enjoyed our stay in the Canyon Hideout, it has all the comforts of home. You will love this place! My wife and I did.
