  • If you're looking for an Airbnb experience that you will never forget, stay at Alan's beautiful cottage! I was looking for somewhere to go and work on finishing my novel and his place ended up inspiring me beyond belief. Sunsets and mountain views like you have never seen before. The cottage is so cozy and warm, even in a full blizzard. Full of small touches, books, instruments from around the world that made it even better than I expected. Alan was an amazing host as well -- friendly and extremely accommodating. He showed me around the rest of the property, which has a rich international history-- an historic Opera house on site. Water/ bay views a short 5 minute walk away. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for rest and retreat and I will definitely be returning soon!

  • Richard’s place is great for those wanting to be near Mount Desert island without actually being on it. The area is very quiet and Richard and his family were very respectful of our privacy and made it easy to come and go as we pleased. The kitchen area and supplied coffee was definitely a plus. Very cozy spot, just be aware of the limited space and accessibility in the bathroom. The bed was a bit firm from what I’m used to and the heater made some obtrusive noises throughout the night but overall was a great stay.

  • Nice place to stay for a trip to Acadia. The bedroom is nice and warm, and the living room is also a good space to chill or cook for yourself. The bathroom is a bit small but operating with no problem. Bed was comfortable. Overall, a 5-star is deserved.

  • Great location and space.

    Mark2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We did a winter stay here - absolutely lovely. Great location (easy access to Acadia and Deer Isle), great amenities (so many kitchen tools!), and beautiful space. The furniture and decor is unique and fun. We enjoyed just reading on the couch a lot of days. Just adding because I had a question about this when renting - there's a bathtub in the downstairs bathroom!

    Oriana2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Got a bargain during the winter season. Great location for visiting Arcadia or just settling in and enjoy the quite sea. Nice star view at night. One little thing though: no WiFi in the house. Not sure if this is a temporary thing but if that’s important then you should ask the host directly. For us it was just fine and we enjoy the beautiful whole house quite the same.

    WenXi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Would love to stay there again!

    Thomas2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a special find if you want to have a quiet, peaceful experience on the Maine coast. Wintertime is beautiful with new fallen snow but know the road conditions might be challenging. The location is very convenient to Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and Blue Hill. Many restaurants close in the dead of winter so it is advisable to prepare for your favorite foods in advance, drink some wine near the fireplace and enjoy nature from inside.

    Amelia2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gregory was nice. His house was very beautiful and lovely. The view of the lake was awesome. Just cosy and nice. Thanks to him.

    Nicolas2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • This house is even more beautiful than in the pictures! It was cozy with the gas fireplace, stacks of lap blankets and cushy throw pillows. Interesting art is everywhere! The views are incredible, as is the beach which is right there. Sunrises and sunsets are both great in this home. I loved having a place that felt like home to stay in for my week long trip in January. The kitchen is equipped with anything you might need, and the grocery store is close by. It was very private, and quiet. A true dream vacation!

    Dee2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Renee and her husband were great hosts! The space was perfect for my boyfriend and I and our two dogs. They had so much space outside to run about and the apartment was spacious with a good selection of kitchen tools. They helped us boil the live lobsters we brought back on our last night and even provided melted butter for us. Thanks for a great stay! We look forward to coming back.

  • Perfect cozy getaway! I'm local to the area but wanted a vacation and this was exactly what I was looking for. Equidistant from Ellsworth and Blue Hill made the location perfect for quick trips to either town. I was also very impressed with how allergen-friendly the place was. I have extreme allergies to animals, smoke, and fragrances and I had no issues during my stay and felt very safe from allergic triggers. I'll definitely book again if I plan another local vacation.

3 miles from Carrying Place beach and Perry’s Lobster Shack
  • Jack and Erica's place is very cute, quiet, and cozy spot tucked away in a forested area. We loved seeing wildlife in the mornings and early evenings outside of the large lower level window. The loft bed was awesome, and we stayed nice and warm up there. The space is definitely tiny.....as tiny houses tend to be! But the space didn't really feel super small. The kitchen was pretty roomy and well-stocked with cooking essentials. We did have a minor issue with sheets and towel supply, but Jack and Erica took care of the situation for us right away, they were very communicative which was appreciated. Overall, a really awesome place to stay!

    Rachel2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Erica and Jacks tiny home was perfect for our two night stay in Maine. We came to see Acadia national park which was only about an hour drive away. The lobster shack down the road was perfect for dinner if you don’t feel like cooking which you could do with the pots/pans and stove provided. It was very clean and in a beautiful spot.

    Cady2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

It’s so peaceful to stand/sit on the deck with your coffee in the morning and wine in the evening, listening to and watching loons and other birds. The cottage is not far from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, and Ellsworth has cool shops and restaurants. Union River Lobster House was awesome! Heidi was very responsive to questions and any issues. Definitely recommend!

The unit that we reserved was attractively decorated and was well stocked with utensils in the kitchen, extra pillows and towels. The view from the deck was the best part for us!! • Came to Maine for the fall foliage scenery & to explore Acadia NP. This place was just what my friends & I needed. It simple to get to, & a very warm & cozy place to stay. We sat around the fire in the evenings while watching the stars. Jeane & Jack were also very quick to response on any questions I had. I will definitely be back.

  • Nice place and very clean. Host has tourist information for you and we found it helpful with planning our days.

  • Very charming and quaint place near Acadia National Park. Perfect spot for a couple and children. Separate bedroom with twin beds that are ideal for children.

  • Highly recommend a stay at Jack & Jeanne Brooking’s place. Very nice accommodations and served us well for our Acadia excursions.

  • Sounds a bit more remote in theory or on paper and then once you experience it, it’s just perfect. The apartment really had everything we needed, and there were multiple quick-stop places just 15 min or so down the road. Lovely surrounding area and towns. Jeanne’s recommendation for breakfast at the Riverside Cafe in Downtown Ellsworth was 👌🏼. The space was super cozy, clean, and more than enough space for my boyfriend and I as we stayed two nights to be near Acadia. 10/10, would return so we can get use out of the precious fire pit!

    Maddie2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, quiet and comfortable! What more could you want! Fantastic night sky. We were greeted by Jeanne, who showed us around. She had great local advice and guide books we took with us on our travels. About an hours drive to Acadia. Even a washer and dryer for our use. Thanks for a great stay.

    Jan2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay! It was quiet and peaceful. The hosts put out toys for our kids and travel books for us. We were able to sit out and enjoy a fire and watch the stars the last night. It’s about 25-30 minute drive to Acadia National Park. Perry’s down the road is great! Pug Nuts ice cream is also a cute little stop.

  • We loved our stay at Tranquil Haven! Wendy is a fantastic host. She turned the light on for us as we were arriving after dark and communicated quickly and effectively with us. The space itself is adorable. There was shampoo and conditioner in the shower and dishes and silverware for two in the cupboard. Plus coffee and snacks! The bed is comfortable and the walls have lots of great artwork. Highly recommend!

  • I had a wonderful stay at Tranquil Haven. The room is cozy and great to relax in after a day of exploring the area. Wendy was a very thoughtful host and easy to communicate with. Thank you :)

  • We came to stay for our visit to Acadia. It was great - everything we needed! Perfect spot for two. It took us about 30 minutes to get to Acadia and a little more than that to get to Bar Harbor. Wendy was very friendly and easily accessible. Would stay here again!

Only available June 8 through October 15. My place is close to the village of Blue Hill and 40 minutes from Acadia National Park. You’ll love my place because of the quiet setting in the woods.
This is a rustic cabin, clean and comfortable but basic. We are located up a dirt drive, away from the main road. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, glasses, silverware, utensils, pots and pans. There is a stove, under-counter fridge and double stainless sink with hot and cold running water. There is no microwave. I stock coffee, milk, orange juice, sugar, salt & pepper, granola. The upstairs bedrooms have no doors, please look at the photos so you can see. The shower with hot and cold water is enclosed outdoors on the side of the cabin. There is an indoor bathroom with toilet and sink. There is a wood-burning fireplace. There are electric lights and outlets and WiFi.
  • Great host who is immensely kind and humble.

    Amshuman2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was really cute and cozy and we had a wonderful time

    Peter2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Henrietta's cabin was the perfect little getaway for us in Maine - she gave us a warm welcome and many local tips and recommendations for Acadia. The cabin is very cozy and private and a great size for a couple or small group. As we're not experienced fire-builders, we were very happy to use the space heater, which kept us warm even when the temperatures dropped. It was great to have the indoor bathroom, but we enjoyed the adventure of an outdoor shower, too! The water stayed quite warm. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area or in close distance from Acadia. We can't wait to return!

    Catherine2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This sweet little cabin helped us fall in love with Maine. It was basic but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay (including a little bookshelf with a variety of books!) and the outdoor shower was a fun touch! Henrietta was a truly wonderful host: welcoming and helpful with unique suggestions about what things in the area might interest us, after chatting with us to find out what type of things we wanted to do. The stay was accented by very considerate personal touches- for example, we brought our 4-y.o. son with us and Henrietta came over with some kids books and toys to entertain him during our visit.

    April2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Blue Hill is a magical place and Henrietta's cabin is a wonderful retreat close to everything yet quiet and private. Henrietta was super helpful giving us tips on where to hike, eat, etc. She even helped me find a long lost cousin who lives in Blue Hill!

    Carol2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • The hospitality of Henrietta was exceptional, she was very kind and made us so very welcome in the Cabin in the Wood, always ready to help us. The cabin is perfect for a couple, with one other simple bed for a kid, and the outdoor shower was very exotic and pleasant, good pressure. The fridge is small so don’t arrive with too much food in reserve, but Henrietta kindly helped us with a cooler when we arrived. It is a good 45 minutes drive to go to Acadia NP, so a little more far than I thought, not sure that I would go there again as a base camp to go daily to the Park, but the area is very beautiful, and I am glad we have been there because otherwise we wouldn’t have met Henrietta!

    Dominique2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Henrietta's cabin in the woods was just dreamy and very close to downtown Blue Hill and lovely local beaches. Henrietta was a great communicator and responsive to any needs. She was right next door if we needed her, but yet the cabin still felt totally private. I would stay here again!

    Amanda2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy cabin in the woods with everything you need. Acadia National Park is easy to reach. On arrival, the fridge was thoroughly filled with the essentials. The kitchen is well equipped. We felt good. I highly recommend a stay.

The cabin is located in an apple orchard on the grounds of the Morgan Bay Zendo, an ecumenical meditation center in Downeast Maine a short walk from the ocean with Acadia National Park visible across the bay. Kitchen, showers, and compost toilets are located in a meeting hall a few steps away. The meditation hall is available as well. Hiking trails and places to swim & bike are in walking distance. Ideal setting for rest, reflection, & renewal.
The Morgan Bay Zendo is located in Downeast, Maine and offers an opportunity for people to practice meditation whatever their background or faith may be. Zendo practice includes elements from Zen, Ch'an and Vipassana schools of Buddhism.
Acadia National Park is across two bays and about 45 minutes away by car. Walking trails and good places to swim in the ocean are nearby. It is also a good place to bicycle. The charming village of East Blue Hill is two miles away and the shopping and cultural centers of Blue Hill and Ellsworth are a 15 minute drive away. Surry village has a general store (Surry Market), ice cream shop (Pugnuts), hardware store (Surry General Store) and one of the best plant nurseries in Maine (Surry Gardens).
  • Quiet, simple and peaceful.

    Tara2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is spotless and the grounds/setting are idyllic. If you want to get away from it all to clear your head and live simply while you do, this is the place. Also great central location from to visit lots of neighboring towns like Ellsworth, Blue Hill, and Brooklin.

    Sean2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Morgan Bay Zendo is a very special place. The cabin is beautifully simple and the windows look out upon the beauty of ferns and trees. The scent of apples, pines, and woods was dreamy and I am hesitant to wash my sweater just so I can hold onto the scent a little longer. The history of the zendo is quite interesting. The cabin and amenities are as described. I found the location to be great as I spent my days exploring Acadia National Park and Deer Isle and the drive to both was easy. It was private, quiet, and surrounded by natural beauty, however not too far from a great brewery and food co-op in the nearby town of Blue Hill. This place perfectly suited my need to get away, unplug, and be refreshed by nature. I look forward to returning someday.

    Jessica2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little rustic cabin... about a 5 minute walk into the woods... there’s a shower/bathroom/kitchen a short walk away from the cabin. For me it was perfect after long hiking days in Acadia... a hot shower and a decently comfy bed. Also this space was so quiet and peaceful!

    Baileigh2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Susan's place was very clean, peaceful, and quiet, and I loved the wood burning stove! Heather was very responsive and kind and gave me great tips about the area. I would definitely return!

Camp in comfort and quiet overlooking our gardens and woods. Surrounded by nature, you may fall asleep in the full and queen beds to the sound of frogs and awaken to bird songs. The hammock or adirondack chairs are available for star gazing and to watch the light show put on by our lightening bugs. A campfire is often a possibility too. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are 45 minutes away plus we have lovely trails and beaches just a few miles down the road.
The Camper: The simple, pop-up camper has two large beds, one full and the other a queen, each with a privacy curtain. The dining space in the camper can be converted to an additional small bed upon request. We make the beds with clean sheets, pillows and blankets. There is also a small fridge in the camper. Otherwise, this is basic camping, so you might want to bring things like a flashlight for reading in bed or walking to the bathroom at night. The Bathroom: Guests have use of a half bath with toilet and sink, conveniently located just inside the door of our house. We generally don't use it when there are guests, so you can leave your toothbrushes etc., if you like. The Outdoor Cedar Shower: There is an outdoor cedar shower with hot water next to the camper that we stock with clean towels and shower gel/shampoo. It is wonderfully refreshing after a long day's hike and exclusively for guests during your stay with us. The Outdoor Kitchen: You are welcome to use our outdoor kitchen. There is a grill that also has a single burner cooktop. Next to it is a sink and cabinet with countertop, and basic camp cooking and dining supplies. In addition to the small table in the camper, guests can use the outdoor patio table and the screened gazebo with tables and seating for six plus a small space for yoga or meditation.
Our house is nestled quietly in the woods. The bay is across the street with a public boat launch and dock around the corner. The public beach and Perry's Lobster Shack with picnic tables on a dock, looking across the bay to Acadia are ten minutes drive down Newbury Neck Rd. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park and Deer Isle are 45 minutes away. Blue Hill and Ellsworth are ten minutes away. Bangor airport is a 45 minute drive, and Bar Harbor airport in Trenton is closer. Please ask about neighbors if you think about walking on their property. Most are friendly. One doesn't like strangers on property.
  • This is a great place to stay if you are looking for eco-friendly options or are a traveler conscious of carbon footprint!!

  • We stayed three nights with 5 people. The trailer as well as the tree house were comfortable to sleep in. Florence and her husband are very nice hosts. It's very quiet and the forest starts just behind the garden. We spent the days in the acadia national park which is a 45 min. drive away. We really liked the gas grill on which we cooked delicious dinners.

  • We very much enjoyed our time at Splash! Despite the “seemingly small” dimensions it was perfect for the two of us! The craftsmanship alone was impressive. The Japanese style futon was quite comfortable and the kitchen area afforded everything we could possibly need! We would certainly stay here again!

  • Nancy and Dick's cottage on Toddy Pond was amazing! The windows offered views of the pond that couldn't be any better. The property is surrounded by beautiful woodlands, but is not too remote. The cottage is warm, comfortable and welcoming. It had everything we needed, and we could not have been happier. It was a great base for us to explore the Bar Harbor area, as it was only about a 40 minute drive from there. We highly recommend a stay here.

  • This was the perfect get away. You will be in aw of the craftsmanship of this beautiful log home. From the chefs kitchen to a fun bar a double shower with a priceless view. Laying in the hot tub looking up at the most beautiful stars. The wildlife was a plenty in this fun and private little town. We saw deer every night driving down the rd. One night we could even hear a pack of coyotes calling to each other it was so cool. It was so perfect you never wanted to leave and when you left you couldn't wait to get back. The host was great and super easy to deal with and helpful. You wont be disappointed spending a night or a week here we cant wait to go back

  • We were blown away when we saw where we’d be staying this week! The house itself is immaculate and well laid out with an open floor plan downstairs and a loft/full bath upstairs. Every conceivable cooking utensil is available, which is good since restaurants are a drive away. We ate at Perrys Lobster Shack three times; don’t forget the delicious blueberry pie! Pug Nutters was fun, and I’m still kicking myself for not going back so I could try more of their homemade ice cream creations. Surry Store has most of the things we needed, they also have made-to-ho food. Kids will delight in the playset out back, we don’t have kids so we just suffered patio envy from the unusual patchwork style of the patio. We made use of the rustic fire pit almost every night; having a hot tub at home made theirs less of an attraction to us but it looked nice. We went for day trips to Bar Harbor (too crowded for our tastes), Blue Hill and Ellsworth. We went for long walks from the house, too, venturing along the road and the dirt road behind the house. It got cold at night so we were grateful for the gas furnace and the soft sheets. Lots of blankets! No cable tv but who needs that? The WiFi worked perfectly so we enjoyed the streaming services available. If we ever come back to this area I’d definitely want to stay here again. Thank you!

  • Great place! Great location! Absolutely beautiful spot. You can see the ocean through the trees from the upstairs loft! We were greeted by three deer just outside our window who first morning. It was a wonderful place to spend the week with very responsive hosts!

  • Due to a storm the previous night, we were unable to stay at the original Airbnb we had booked. We contacted Wendy to see if she had power, and she did! She quickly responded to our need for a last-minute one night stay. She was friendly upon arrival greeting us and showing us the door to use. The driveway off the highway is tricky so follow her instructions. Wendy's place was very clean and tidy, decorated with some of her own art! We had everything we needed provided by Wendy . It was private and quiet . My husband and I would stay there again!

    Valerie2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy’s place was perfect after a long day at Acadia. Only about 30 minutes from the park and easy to find. I’d stay again if I’m in the area!

    Michael2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy thought of everything as far as accommodations and amenities. She was also helpful in suggesting various hikes at Acadia, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location is good in that it is not too far from Acadia and close to other small towns which we enjoyed visiting. No regrets and happy to recommend Wendy's place if you are planning a trip to Maine.

    Kathleen2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, comfortable space. Exactly what we needed for a restful stay on our road trip.

    Lacy2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. It was the perfect place we were looking for. It was in a very quiet peaceful area. It was about 30 minutes to Acadia which we didn’t mind the drive at all. The host was really good at communicating and the place was clean and comfortable.

    Monica2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • You’re going to be comfy and cozy at Wendy’s Hidden Retreat. Beautiful property, great location, and private, as promised. Like the listing indicates, it’s not a huge space, but it’s perfect for relaxing after exploring this beautiful part of the world. Enjoy.

    Joel2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Cute cozy space and was perfect for our honeymoon. Ellsworth also had good food and coffee options. Plus close to Acada Park.

    Mindy2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this little hideaway in the woods. Everything was cozy and Wendy was communicative and warm. Thank you!

  • Barbara's cottage was better than I expected. The layout is cozy and quaint of the interior and the deck and views are very beautiful. It'smostly quiet here with a few neighbors around but for the most part it was mostly quiet and very little car traffic noise from the main road. Amenities were great in the kitchen and indoor fireplace and music system were nice touches. Overall great communication and hospitality from Mary ( co-host ) and Barbara. Will be back during my summer bar harbor trips.

  • Beautiful home

    Donald2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mary and Barbara are excellent hosts. The cottage was in a beautiful location in Surry not far from Ellsworth and surrounding areas. The cottage was very clean and had great amenities. Would stay again for sure.

    Jordan2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great experience with this our first stay at an Airbnb !

    Susan2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • It was great! Plenty of room for my family of 4 to stretch out, a gorgeous view of more stars than we have ever seen, and lots of amenities. The full size washer/dryer were helpful and we borrowed bikes that were in the basement. The hosts were helpful but not intrusive. Surry is a sweet, tiny town that is far enough out of the way that you feel fully relaxed but it punches above its weight with a really good lobster restaurant nearby (Perry’s) and a nice ice cream place too.

    Amy2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Barbara's place. It's perfectly located for exploring the Blue Hill / Surry area. We enjoyed staying in the house very much and would highly recommend it!

    Beth2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great clean modern home with a nice view of mountains from the kitchen, living room and back deck. Even though the house looks small from the driveway, it was very spacious inside.

    Maggie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara is a great host, with expert help from Mary and Steve who are quick and ready to offer any help necessary. The place itself has a stylish and relaxing atmosphere and the location is fabulous. I look forward to my return every year and wouldn’t stay anywhere else! Highly recommended!

Picturesque log cabin in a little meadow surrounded by forest; accessed by easy 5 minute walk along a trail, with electricity, screened porch, and modern comforts. Three min drive to Blue Hill and 50 minutes to Bar Harbor. Enjoy complete peace with only the sounds of nature and nobody nearby. Sweet outdoor solar shower (or heat water on gas stove and fill shower). All that's left is a good book, writing, yoga, wine etc on the screened porch. Everything is new except the hand hewn logs.
This is like being in the middle of Alaska but CLOSE to all conveniences. All linens and kitchen needs provided, new fridge, gas stove, and an espresso maker. New outhouse too!
  • We needed an opportunity to get away and unwind and that is exactly what we got! After arriving later than expected Matt gave us easy to understand driving directions and we found our way just fine. As other reviews have stated, a headlamp is necessary. Carrying a flashlight with your bag adds a slight bit of difficulty. Check out Pugnuts for coffee and gelato and Perry’s lobster pound for dinner! Both very close to the cabin and delicious!

    Kristen2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • I rented this cabin to escape from my life for a bit, hike, write, meditate and relax with my dog. The cabin is simple and just enough of what you need to be comfortable. The bed was cozy, and the screened porch lovely. I appreciated the simplicity of it. It is quiet and private, but not isolated, and in a truly excellent location for exploring downeast Maine. I stayed there in mid-October and explored many gorgeous trails around the Blue Hill peninsula and was still warm and cozy at night. Matt was very helpful and accommodating, even despite being out of town. Highly recommend!

    Caroline2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • It was as close as you can get to wilderness camping but without any of the nuisances, like mosquitoes and sleeping on a the hard ground, etc. We loved it! And we really enjoyed being all to ourselves and being surrounded by such natural beauty! The walk to the cabin was not far. Only took us about 3 minutes. There was a nice fire pit not far from the screened porch so that we could enjoy the firelight. The bed was comfortable and the quiet getaway was lovely! We had everything we needed!

    Lisa2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a peaceful and simple abode. Almost like camping, it is relaxing, non-tech and grounding. Matt was wonderful and very generous.

    Greg2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful cabin, great cooking facilities, very comfortable mattress, about 40 minutes from Acadia, had a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

    Isabelle2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second year visiting Blue Hill and staying in Matt's cabin! We love it there! Everything you need is there and so many fun places within a short drive. Highly recommended!

    Shayna2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in that little piece of heaven. If you like nature and simplicity it is the right spot for you. It was the perfect place to visit all the region, it was not too far from all the beautiful places. Thank you Matt for everything!

    Valou2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, pup, and I had a great time staying in Matt’s cabin. Everything was well kept, clean, and in good working order. The location was perfect in that it was private and secluded, but close to town and a very doable drive to Acadia or Deer Isle for day trips. Blue hill is a lovely town and there isn’t much need to travel too far to get great food or drinks.

Charming, newly renovated cottage, called " Bungalhigh" with 1 bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and wrap around porch, located on a swimming cove with view of Blue Hill Mountain and the ocean, a half mile from Blue Hill village. Pet-friendly, Cable TV, Internet. Nearby is a 2nd cottage, the Bungalow, which is rented out separately and simultaneously. Guests renting the Bungalow must walk in front of the Bungalhigh and share the yard and cove. Swimming, kayaks, & rowing dinghy.
Private swimming cove with campfire, (shared by guests staying in the nearby Bungalow) water view, mountain view, island view, pet-friendly. This one-bedroom cottage, called "The Bungalhigh," is located on a family compound with comfortable Queen bed and ensuite bathroom with shower, plus kitchen, living room with view and wrap around deck. The Bungalhigh is located close to another rental house, the Bungalow, so guests need to be know that renters in the Bungalow walk in front of the Bungalhigh to get to their cottage and share the yard, kayaks, cove, parking lot, barbecue, and telephone.... Deep water out front for mooring a yacht; a private mooring can be arranged with advance notice. Two kayaks, a rowing dinghy, life jackets, Cable TV, Wifi internet, mosquito screens on all the windows, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable Queen-size bed. Fans. Wall-mounted, propane heater. A 12 foot tide empties the cove out front for half the day.... Excellent swimming, but tide is important. House is located well off the main road....safe for children and pets. The property offers an ideal situation for pets, and dogs are welcome. The Queen Bed is pre-made for arrival with 100% cotton, white sheets.... Besides the Bungalow and Bungalhigh, there are two additional houses belonging to family on the property, which mostly sit empty.... Our cousins use their house in August; my sister Libby owns the two-story "studio" on the other side of the Bungalhigh.... Most houses in Blue Hill have kept their 1950s bathroom and kitchen fixtures. We have not modernized the Bungalhigh in keeping with the style of the other houses in town.... Our Welcome Kit contains pamphlets on things to do in the area, descriptions of the local restaurants, locations of nearby scenic walks, farms, and driving tours with addresses for GPS navigation to find them.... The nice thing about renting a house in Blue Hill as opposed to Stonington or Mount Dessert is that Blue Hill is located equidistant between both places, which are on opposite sides of us, yet Blue Hill is not congested with traffic or touristy like Mount Dessert. Nor it is far away from other towns in the area, as Stonington is. In Blue Hill you can just as easily visit Castine, Belfast, Rockland, and Stonington as you can Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and even Lubec, places that offer charm that you do not want to miss. Blue Hill also offers activities that are not touristy, such as farms, granges, museums, trails, beaches, and back to the earth eateries. The AirBNB link for the nearby Bungalow is as follows; we also manage the larger Captain's House half a mile away on Parker Point Road in Blue Hill; and we also have a few darling cottages for two located in a gorgeous area on the island in Antigua, West Indies for the winter months. Bungalow https://airbnb.com/h/bungalow-and-bungalhigh-with-swimming-cove-and-dock-in-blue-hill-maine Captain's House https://airbnb.com/h/captains-house-in-blue-hill-maine In Antigua: Frangipani https://airbnb.com/h/pineapple-house-frangipani Bird House https://airbnb.com/h/pineapple-house-antigua-bird-house Cleopatras https://airbnb.com/h/pineapple-house-antigua-cleopatras Hibiscus https://airbnb.com/h/pineapple-house-antigua-hibiscus
Blue Hill is a small, scenic, rural, downeast, coastal town, dominated by Blue Hill Mountain. Thanks to the Blue Hill Public Library and centrally-located village green, the town has a strong sense of community with many people who enjoy living here year round, because of the tranquil scenery, the beautiful farm houses, the lack of suburbia, zero traffic lights, and many ocean views. Beautiful farm houses with gardens dot the countryside. Many scenic vistas open to the ocean. The woods are spruce pine and Balsam trees. Occasionally you see sheep grazing in fields by the side of the road. Yet hidden away among the Elm trees, there is much to do in Blue Hill and surrounding areas. I consider myself an expert on what to do here, where to go to find any activity. Please don't hesitate to ask me about any activity that might interest you. For instance, one guest asked recently about light houses in the area. I introduced them to the Stonington Mail Boat that offers narrated tours to all the lighthouses in the area. Another guest asked about fishing. I gave them the website for Eagle Mountain Guide Service, where individuals can join a group on a fully-equipped, 24' pontoon boat, whose guides know where the best salmon and trout and bass fishing lakes are. There are dozens more fishing trips available as well. Our welcome kit is filled to the brim with things to do in the area from Bar Harbor to Rockland. We include Franklin D. Roosevelt's Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada, 90 miles up the coast....bring passports. And Andrew Wyeth's "The Olson House" where he painted 'Christina's World" in Cushing, Maine..... Blue Hill is 45 minutes from Acadia National Park, a stunning place to rent bicycles, take boat trips, sign up for guided kayaking tours, climb mountains, and bicycle Rockefeller's blue-chipped carriage trails, which have no motorized traffic..... Acadia National Park offers sports and recreational activities such as narrated lobster boat talks, windjammer sails.... narrated lighthouse tours, not to mention hiking trails to tops of mountains with amazing coastal views of Blue Hill Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. You can drive up Cadillac Mountain, tour Mt. Desert's scenic Loop Road, take horse and cart rides along John Rockefeller's blue-chipped carriage trials..... Acadia National Park offers all manner of fun activities for the whole family. Blue Hill is 45 minutes from the scenic, coastal town of Stonington, which offers fine dining right on the water's edge and gorgeous sunsets. After dinner, take in a live show at the Opera House. Like Bar Harbor, Stonington has beautiful curb appeal - colorful paint, beautiful gardens, quaint wood buildings, granite steps.... If you are an art aficionado, Stonington has art gallery galores, lining its beautiful streets. Check out Jill Hoy's Art Gallery at 80 Main Street in particular. She paints Maine! Wow! Walk the commercial lobster pier; check out the clothing shops. Stonington is a wonderful day trip. Blue Hill is also 45 minutes from Belfast and Camden, neighboring towns west of Blue Hill, quaint with retail stores, well worth visiting. Camden is famous for its music scene; Belfast for its environmental shops; check out The Green Store in particular. If you are craving beauty and nature, we can set you on the path to the most beautiful spots, like windswept Curtis Cove, or Blue Hill Mountain, or Carter Preserve Nature Preserve, or the Reversing Falls, and so on.... Our Welcome Kit has addresses for your GPS to sightsee these towns, as well as tours and addresses for sports and recreation in the area, places to dine in Blue Hill, where to go to find nature, explore the trails, beaches, museums, and places of interest in Blue Hill, plus addresses of neighboring farms, where you can buy fresh raw milk, homemade yogurt, organic chicken meat, eggs, and u-pick strawberries and apples. Buy a 50 pound bag of potatoes and onions to take home with you in the fall. The Blue Hill Town Park is a great place to take young children. It has swings and seesaws and climbing gyms.... Our cousins said it was a God-send to have it located so near by, a place where they could take their young children.... The Blue Hill Town Park also hosts the Flash in the Pan Steel Band street dance most Monday evenings throughout the summer, a great place for young people to go to dance and to listen to the steel band. Blue Hill has a summer stock theater company, the New Surry Theater, that puts on plays in the town hall throughout the year. It also has an intensive chamber music school, called Kneisel Hall, providing musicians and music lovers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the chamber repertoire of over 100 years. They hold chamber music concerts throughout the summer, but one of the things Kneisel Hall musicians are known for is their children's concerts, which they hold at the Blue Hill Public Library throughout the summer. For restaurants in the area, apart from Barncastle and Marlintinis, two restaurants that compete for the local drinking crowd, who come out en force at 5 pm responsibly, we recommend Arborvine, located right in the village. It serves Blue Hill's famous, locally-raised "Bagaduce River oysters" and locally grown salad, using greens from Eliot Coleman's Four Season Farm. The Four Season Farm in Brooksville is an example of sustainable living. Its green houses produce fresh organic vegetables all winter and summer, and it's open to the public. The fresh clear waters of the nearby Bagaduce River is the perfect place to raise oysters, which once thrived naturally in the cold rivers of Maine. Arborvine makes its own beer, Deep Water Brewing Company, and has a brew pub. Another restaurant located close to town is the Farmhouse Inn, located at 578 Pleasant Street in Blue Hill. For health conscious patrons, this restaurant offers the least starch of all the menus in town. Fruits and vegetables and sea food is the name of the game.... It's rustic, charming, and not expensive. We also recommend dining at the Brooklin Inn, whose fare is locally grown produce, fish and seafood. The restaurant is run by a modern day sea captain. He ran a windjammer in the West Indies back in the day.... They keep a fire going in the fireplace during fall and winter. A great place to watch the sunset in the most romantic setting possible is the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant in Deer Isle. Take a comfortable seat on the deck overlooking Goose Cove. There's a reef out in the bay that the waves wash over....you hear the lapping of the waves on the beach near by.... It's a half moon-shaped cove that resembles those in the Caribbean.... It's peaceful to sit on the deck, hear the surf, drink champagne, eat hearty seafood appetizers, and watch the sun go down.... For a lobster dinner, consider taking your meal outside around a centrally located campfire at the Boatyard Grill in Blue Hill, or on a pier overlooking the water and Acadia National Park halfway down Newburyneck Peninsula in Surry at Perry's Lobster Shack. The experience at Perry's is described as "off the radar." We also enjoy dining on the water at Bagaduce Lunch, a terrific, fried seafood place that my uncle justifiably calls 'the Yale Club," because it is so popular. Take your meal on the picnic tables and dine on the water's edge. Blue Hill celebrates Memorial Day with a Parade. The Blue Hill Pops amass great singers and musicians to celebrate the Fourth of July. On Labor Day we go to the Blue Hill Fair, see the 4H animals, and watch fireworks. Blue Hill has inspired many authors. E.B. White wrote Charlotte's Web, which is about the Blue Hill Fair. Robert McCloskey wrote Blueberries for Sal, which is about the bears on Blue Hill Mountain. Katharine Butler Hathaway wrote The Little Locksmith, a must-read memoir, in our cousins house in the village, and she is a distant relative. Blue Hill has a few museums in the village... The Jonathan Fisher House is an 1814 historic house museum. Parson Jonathan Fisher was Blue Hill's first congregational minister from 1794 to 1837; he was also a farmer, scientist, mathematician, surveyor, and writer of prose and poetry... He bound his own books, made buttons and hats, designed and built furniture, painted sleighs, was a reporter for the local newspaper, helped found Bangor Theological Seminary, dug wells, built his own home and raised a large family. The Historic Holt House, built in 1815, was lived in by Jeremiah Holt, grandson of Nicholas Holt, who brought Blue Hill’s fifth family from Andover, Massachusetts in 1765. Many of the houses in the village date from the 1800s. A drive out to Steamboat Wharf harks back to the days when the weekly packets sailed in from Boston with tourists and the mail.... Buckboards drove the tourists in to the village, where they'd stay at the Blue Hill Inn. Our sightseeing tours, together with list of sports and recreational activities in Stonington and Acadia National Park can easily keep you occupied for an entire summer.....
  • Clean house and amazing property. Pictures are accurate. Close to town but still rural and quiet. Shelby is very communicative. We enjoyed our stay.

  • Would love to go back, beautiful view and peaceful surroundings. Very responsive host.

  • Great location in Blue Hill! We stayed here for our wedding weekend and loved being so close our venues and... also being able to have our coffee each morning while looking out at the water, feeling like the only people in town. Best of both worlds! Shelby was very responsive and proactive as our host -- definitely one of the better communicators I have had through my time with Airbnb.

  • Bunglehigh is a perfect cottage for two. It’s not fancy but it is very, very cute and cozy. I don’t know why you’d need anything else! The view is so perfect and even on a rainy day you can sit on the comfy couch with a book and look at the ocean. It’s great that it’s close to town too! Can’t recommend it enough!

  • Lovely cozy cottage in one of the most beautiful spots in Maine. It was so hard to leave. The location is wonderful and the hosts were so helpful and responsive. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and cannot wait to return. Blue Hill is gorgeous and there are so many fun places to explore. The house is small but was perfect for me and my daughter. Our hosts provided many great suggestions for day trips and could not have been nicer. A very special place. Thank you.

    David2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Tom and Sharon’s place is fantastic. From the personal greeting to the jetted tub, every detail was perfect. This location is an easy drive (40 min) to Acadia, and the setting couldn’t be more beautiful. The yurt is a unique and interesting place to stay. I would recommend a white noise app as the walls of the yurt are understandably thin and outdoor noises can be easily heard. The location is quiet and beautifully situated on the water.

    Brad2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve been staying in vacation rentals for a dozen plus years and this experience was by far my favorite! The home was enchanting and the grounds were serene. My only regret was that I didn’t have more time to stay.

    Marilyn2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This was the best and most unique airbnb experience. Sharon and Tom are lovely to talk to, we wish we could stayed longer to enjoy the yurt and hear their stories. They provided great amenities, the bath tub was perfect after a long day of walk/hiking in Acadia. The bed was very comfortable, the place was clean, the shared kitchen had everything you needed. Sharon and Tom also had great recommendations. We would return and stay here again. Thank you!

    Ye (Grace)2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting and great space. Definitely recommended!

    Ryan2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Tom and Sharon's yurt compound was a memory we won't ever forget! Sharon greeted us with such kindness and generosity from the beginning and it continued until the day we left. The yurt was impeccable, fresh flowers in every room, coffee, snacks, even wine! We felt right at home. The location is superb, convenient to Acadia and nearby towns - the hardest part was forcing ourselves to leave the yurt each day to do the exploring we intended- we could easilyhave stayed "home" all day! Thank you Sharon & Tom, not only for your kindess and hospitality but for sharing your beautiful creation!

  • Sharon & Tom are the best hosts! I can't say enough good things about them. And if you haven't stayed in a Yurt then you don't know what you are missing. This is not a tent, it is a home. Fully equipped with every amenity. A beautiful place to stay! And absolutely squeaky clean! I can't wait to go back. It was an amazing experience!

DOG FRIENDLY! Now renting for the 2020 summer season from mid-May to mid-October! Adorable cedar shingle camp on 400 acres of classic Maine wilderness. Acadia National Park is 18 miles away. Large sleeping loft can accommodate 4 people. Woodstove and gas cook stove, H&C running water in kitchen, cozy living area and covered porch overlooking a beaver pond!
Available from mid-May to mid-October! There are miles of secluded walking roads on the property to observe wildlife...and it's only 18 miles to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park! The camp is quintessential Maine at its finest. Camp Kwitchabitchin was hand-built by the owners in 200 7 with all re-purposed materials. It is very cozy. The owners lived in it while they built their permanent home which is across the lane. PLEASE NOTE! The cabin is lovely but it is a true rustic Maine camp. There is an outdoor hot water shower, an outhouse and a BRAND NEW flush toilet and sink in the "Water Closet" upstairs next to the sleeping loft. Here is what our first Airbnb lodgers had to say: 5/16/16 ~ Carol & Tom, Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your cabin with us. It was exactly what we had hoped for and a great retreat from the city. It really allowed us to get back to the country. We hope to be back soon! It was so cool to be your first lodgers. ~ The outdoor shower is amazing! Peace! ~ Carol & Tom, This was truly an experience of coming home. Thank you for the simple, yet cozy cabin. We’ll definitely be back. All the best, The Fancy Boys (Eddie, Ian & Chris) PS—I just saw that they wrote on the outhouse graffiti-chalkboard, “Best seat in the house. I ain’t shittin’!”
Bad Beaver Farm is 3 miles from the center of Ellsworth which is a city that has all the shopping amenities needed. It is the hub to Down East Maine and the only route down to Bar Harbor (Mount Desert Island) and Acadia National Park. This month's DownEast magazine has "12 BEST PLACES TO LIVE in Maine" including Ellsworth! "Ellsworth: A town with momentum at Acadia's front door. If location is everything, it's tough to beat Ellsworth. The 'Gateway to Down East and Acadia' is just 15 miles from Acadia National Park but feels well removed from the crush of summertime traffic on Mount Desert Island." ELLSWORTH IS MAINE'S FASTEST-GROWING CITY! (DownEast 3/2020) ❤
  • Carol's place was incredible. Out of the town for solidarity, but close enough to drive into town for dinner. Carol was very accommodating and provided us with some incredible tips and recommendations for Acadia. We enjoyed the space, and my mom laughed so hard she was crying reading Carol's book that she has written about Bad Beaver. This is a trip both my mother and I will cherish and speak of for years to come.

  • I wish I could give Camp Kwitchabitchin more than just 5 stars. This cabin completely exceeded our expectations. It is so cute and charming. We loved having the wood stove fireplace to keep us nice and toasty, watching the chickens peck around the yard, and enjoying the calm serenity of the woods. Carol and Tom have such a gorgeous property - I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.

    Anni2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Camp Kwitchabitchin! We so wish we had more time to explore the local area and just enjoy the cabin, but the time we spent here was great! Our dogs Charley & Dodger took a few minutes to get acquainted with Charley (yep, same name!) & Rhoda but afterwards we had no issues at all. Easy check-in instructions with clear instructions to finding the house, and a warm welcome with lots of local tips and suggestions. Plenty of wood for the wood-burning fireplace and lots of extra fuzzy blankets to keep you warm. There were a few mosquitos / tiny flies that we city folk took a little trouble getting used to seeing, but this is a rustic cabin and a few insects are to be expected! The flush toilet / water closet upstairs is excellent, though in a small space you can hear everything so definitely only come here with people you are close with (or will become close with REAL soon) :b. The cabin is about 30-40 minutes to Bar Harbor & Acadia national park. Lots of great places to eat right in Ellsworth. Would definitely come back!

  • Camp Kwitchabitchin is the perfect cabin nestled in Maine's woods for a pup accompanied getaway. The cabin is rustic & eclectic- all the little details thoughtfully decorating the space revealing themselves throughout our stay. You will enjoy hot water in the outdoor shower, so even if there is a chill in the air, it is quite comfortable. The location is convenient for all the sites in the area- we were 30 min from Acadia, Blue Hill & Bar Harbor. The wi-fi exists, but is weak, forcing us to really unplug & enjoy our time away from work. Carol is a natural storyteller, with recommendations & tips for the area with or without your dogs. Some of our recommendations: for a dog sitter google Steven in Lamoine, a pup stroll through Bar Harbor & along the beach path, pizza from Tinder Hearth on Tuesdays, off leash hike & swim for dogs at Acadia Little Long Pond.

    Kelley2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is really sweet. There’s so many beautiful places to see in the area but you could easily be happy just walking around the farm and spending quiet time at the cabin! Carol and Tom were gracious hosts.

    Pilar2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Carol's cabin! She gave us great recommendations on an overcast day in the Park! The spot she sent us to had no other tourists and it was stunning!

    Miriam2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was an amazing host, super helpful. We went to a lot of amazing places with her recommendation, like Fogtown brewing. Downtown Ellsworth is such a cute spot. A great place to stay to be within spitting distance of Bar Harbor, but not have to stay with all the crowds.

    Chelsea2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is amazing! I would offer that it is better than advertised. So many stylish touches make it a truly special place to stay. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

The view from the covered porch of this 3-bedroom Bungalow, a bathing house, built in the early 1900s, is an ever exploding fusion of white and black birds taking wing over the island out front with swimming cove with dock & mooring a few steps away. Grandfathered to sit right on the shoreline, the Bungalow is a variation of a modern day house with swimming pool. Even if you do nothing else, the view from this house with swimming cove is rewarding & the reason why you should rent this house.
Located on the ocean's very edge with swimming cove and view of Blue Hill mountain, bay and islands, the Bungalow is on Parker Point Road, half a mile from Blue Hill village. The cove and yard are shared by guests staying in the Bungalhigh close by. The living room has fireplace, antiques and dining room, plus covered porch with furniture & view. The kitchen has dining room and sitting area, and there are three bedrooms and one bathroom; two rooms have Queen and Full-size beds; the third has twin beds. There are no stairs; everything is on the same level. The cottage is Pet-Friendly and Disabilities-friendly (almost....!) The swimming cove has private dock and mooring. There is a Rowboat & 2 kayaks, shared by guests in the nearby Bungalhigh. We are Located in Blue Hill's inner, inner harbor near the town. the house has views of the water, island, mountain, boat basin, and village. Seals swim in the bay. The Bungalow was built as a bathing house for a larger house during a bygone era. In addition to the covered porch, the living room with fireplace has old books, antiques, comfortable sofas, and white woolen rugs. A dining room flanks the French windows overlooking the bay, ideal for family dinners. It opens into a large, eat-in kitchen with desk, and guests like that the three guest bedrooms are on the same level as the living room with views of the bay and gardens. The 3 bedrooms in the main house have one queen bed, one full bed, and one twin room, and they share one bathroom with shower. The Bungalow is Pet friendly and Disability-friendly (almost!...Please inquire). An LL Bean cot, Pack n Play crib and High Chair are available on request. Bring a bluetooth wireless speaker for use for music from your iPhone. BBQ Gas grill is available. Campfires allowed in the cove only. There's a bench on the point to the left of the Bungalow available for guests' use. Trash goes in the pump house in the parking lot. Available June through October. We also operate Captain's House in Blue Hill, half a mile away. It's located on the other side of the country club. Here is the link. https://airbnb.com/h/captains-house-in-blue-hill-maine. Here is the link for the Bungalhigh, and we also have guest houses in Antigua, West Indies during the winter months, run by my sister Libby Nicholson. She'd love to have you come down! Blue Hill is a small, scenic, downeast, coastal town, dominated by Blue Hill Mountain. Thanks to the Blue Hill Public Library and centrally-located village green, the town offers a strong sense of community with people who enjoy living in Blue Hill year round, due to the tranquil scenery, the sailing, the beautiful farm houses, the lack of suburbia, zero traffic lights, and many ocean views. The woods are spruce, pine, and Balsam. Occasionally you see sheep grazing in the fields by the side of the road. Yet hidden away among the Elm trees, there is much to do in Blue Hill and surrounding areas. I recommend taking a two-hour lobster tour of Stonington Harbor from Isle au Haut ferry service dot com. The captain narrates the history of the lobster and granite industries, as you go along. The tour offers an opportunity to see seals and haul traps and to learn about the age of sail here in downeast Maine. Highly worthwhile, the cost is $25/person, and daily afternoon trips are offered June through October. Isle au Haut ferry Service also offers longer puffin cruises to the outer islands on certain days as well, a memorable thing to do! Seeing those seabirds on those islands stays with you for a lifetime, I find. Bring your camera. Their boats also carry mail and supplies several times a day out to nearby Isle au Haut Island, which has a year round fisherman establishment. The island is part of Acadia National Park, so there are hiking trails in abundance on one end of the island and a working village to see on the other, complete with school, hotel, grocery store and private houses. We recommend visiting that island to see both the village and the hiking trails, taking the boat out in the morning and returning in the afternoon. Google Isle au Haut ferry service dot com for prices and schedule. Stonington is a 45 minute drive from Blue Hill. Acadia National Park is an hour's drive from Blue Hill. You can drive the loop road (one way) around the park; you can drive up Cadillac Mountain; there are tons of hiking trails and nature walks. Navigate to 25 Visitor Center Road, Bar Harbor to connect with the park rangers there to learn about their nature walking tours and to pick up the loop road. Acadia Magic dot com is the park's official website. We recommend renting bicycles from Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop in Bar Harbor and cycling the blue-chip carriage trails inside Acadia National Park. There is no car traffic and no hills. A bus transports your bicycles to the trailhead. Donated by John Rockefeller, the park is famous for its beautiful bridges and landscapes. The park was landscaped by the same designer as Central Park in New York. It's free. We also recommend visiting Seal Cove Auto Museum. Not only are there hundreds of beautiful old cars there, the museum tells the story of life on MDI (Mount Desert Island) before the automobile. It tells the story of the summer people who didn't want motor traffic on the island and the year round residents who welcomed the age of the automobile on the island despite the traffic it would ensue. The story is an interesting one! We recommend climbing Blue Hill Mountain. It's a steep, 20-minute walk. Google Mountain Road in Blue Hill in Google maps; it leads you right to the trailhead. We recommend hiking Peter's Brook in Blue Hill to swim in a waterfall. It's an easy, 10-minute walk, and there's a refreshing deep pool to swim in when you get there. Navigate to 136 East Blue Hill Road to pick up the trailhead, which takes you up the right hand side of the brook. There are signs further along the way. For restaurants we recommend eating lobster alfresco at Perry's Lobster Shack in Surry. All these places can be found on the web. We recommend the deep fried seafood at Bagaduce Lunch in Brooksville; they have picnic tables by the side of the ocean. Closer to Blue Hill is Marlintini's and Barncastle. Tinder Hearth in Brooksville offers a wonderful pizza experience; it's not just the pizza; it's the atmosphere that we recommend, although the pizza is very good too; you have to call ahead for reservations. There's a treat in store! I consider myself an expert on activities to do here in Blue Hill. Everything from fishing to moose hunting to sea kayaking to horseback riding to rock climbing to sailing is available in the form of tours here. Please let me know what your interests are; I have pdfs to send you on tours in the area. The Bungalow has 3-fold color brochures on all the activities available as well.
  • The bungalow was great and had an amazing view. It was a great place to stay while exploring the area!

  • I arrived and sat on the dock and could not believe this tranquil piece of heaven was going to be my home for the next 3 days. If you want to arrive, immediately switch off and relax, then you won’t find better. Plus all good amenities close by. Deceptively spacious. Would highly recommend.

  • Wonderful house and location! Always a pleasure to be able to stay there.

    Carrie2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely cottage located on the water at the end of a private lane. There are 3 bedrooms quite close to one another that a share a bathroom. There is a large kitchen and a dining/living room that faces the water. We were there for a wedding at the Blue Hill Country Club so the location was ideal.

    Cindy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical place! It's almost impossible to find an authentic New England cottage on the water now a days...The cove and view are spectacular, you couldn't get any closer to the water if you tried! The bungalow has a gorgeous rock fireplace that was such a treat for our September visit. We are so thankful that our golden retriever was welcomed. He loved jumping off the dock to fetch sticks. I am a New Englander and I love vintage things. Shelby's house is the perfect combination of vintage details and modern conveniences. I love that this property hasn't been "yuppified", that it still holds the stories of its past...this is the kind of place that makes you feel like a kid again, so nostalgic and beautiful. Shelby was so responsive, helpful and gracious. I could spend a whole summer here!

    Robert2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Shelby’s bungalow was wonderful! My kids, dog and I just loved it. The porch overlooking the water was fantastic. Great, private location. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Spectacular sunset views and a central location only minutes to trails, carriage road bike paths, and downtown. Saturday to Saturday only rental includes covered bicycle storage and free use of a canoe and car topping gear.
Step inside and admire the rugged cedar and hemlock beams that reach high to the pine board ceiling in the living area. Large windows and a full-size patio door look out over ancient apple trees and a small meadow were white-tailed deer and snowshoe hares stop by. Whip o' wills and woodcock can be heard at dusk and frequently the call of coyotes reaches up from the nearby stream valley. At night the stars shine brighter than anywhere else on the East Coast. Our "Tribal Council" area sports an Adirondak Leanto, fire pit with wood, running water and a picnic table along our 400-foot nature trail. The cottage has a fully-equipped kitchenette that includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, coffee maker, full-size refridgerator/freezer, compact sink, dishes, glasses, mugs, utensils, pots and pans. Overhead there is a reading loft. The cottage is also stocked with field guides, maps, books and videos about the area's natural and human history. The cottage has free wireless broadband internet, a 14-inch LCD TV, with 200 cable channels and a DVD and VCR player. There are coloring books and videos for children. Our central location is perfect for launching your hiking, biking, wildlife watching or paddling trips. The cottage is located approximately 150 feet from the main private residence on land that was once a working dairy farm. There is an unattached garage in between. The clean, airy cabin includes a living room with gas log fireplace, a futon sofa/bed, chairs and a dining table and TV. The ground floor bedroom has a queen-size bed and bureau, hanging space for clothes, as well as a ceiling fan. Although there is no AC it often cools off quickly at night, especially on an island. There is also a ceiling fan in the living area and standing and portable fans as well. The bathroom has a vanity sink, toliet and shower with plenty of hot water and an electric heater. One set of linens and towels are provided for the week. For your outdoor adventures there's a daypack, umbrella, hiking sticks, portable cooler and headlamp. The Carriage House Cottage is in a rural area with widely-spaced single-family homes. It is just a mile from spectacular Eagle Lake and a main entrance to Acadia's motor-free carriage road network. Wildlife and birds abound. Woods abutting two sides of the property are designated forever wild by an easement held by Acadia National Park.
  • Comfortable cabin and cozy cabin with great location to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor.

  • The perfect place to visit acadia national park!

    Stéphanie2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful week at Earl and Roxie's cottage. It was an ideally-located home base for getting to all parts of the island, including the Quietside, where the hiking was excellent. Earl and Roxie have included many thoughtful touches that make the cottage feel like a home-away-from-home, from a lobster pot, headlamp, and grocery bags, to extra towels. The place was so comfortable that we were hoping that a rainy day would give us an excuse to stay in, but alas, the MDI weather was picture-perfect all week! We'll be back!

    Su-Jen2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was more than we expected. Just perfect. Earl and Roxie are wonderful hosts and truly love sharing their place and knowledge of Acadia with others. You won't be disappointed-we can't wait to visit again. Seems like the week flew by.

    Rhonda2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend a stay at Earl’s place. It had everything we wanted, and some things we didn’t realize we needed. Very cozy living space, and very clean. Earl’s personal touch and advice for using the canoe were wonderful. Wish we could have stayed another week!

    Brian2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful home, super clean, neat& cozy. Great hosts! Perfect for my wife and me! Very close to town and all park related trips!

    Michael2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Earls cabin. Earl and Roxie are very friendly, warm and helpful. Don’t hesitate to book Earls cabin because you won’t regret it. It is nearby great hiking spots and Bar Harbor. We enjoyed it so much!

    Emilie2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Earl and Roxie are great hosts! Their proximity to Acadia alone is reason enough to book... 10 minutes. Even though the carriage house is on their property it has been done in such a way that there is plenty of privacy. The place is clean, charming and rustic but not too rustic! It is truly an oasis in Bar Harbor and we have every intention of returning.

My home is on a quiet street in Ellsworth, 18 miles from Acadia National Park and 4 miles from Branch Lake, the warmest water in the area for swimming! The Island Explorer, a free shuttle bus, takes you to Acadia and other towns on Mt. Desert Island free of charge from designated areas close to my home.
The space is a large nicely furnished living room, large bedroom with king size bed, bathroom with shower, breakfast nook with large sink, refrigerator, table and chairs, coffee maker, electric tea kettle and microwave. There is no stove.
A quiet, residential area, walking distance to down town Ellsworth. My home is on a quiet street, and across the street from a lake.
  • Barbara is wonderful host and very helpful when you need local advice. The setting is a beautiful wooded location with access to everything you need. This was my second stay with Barbara and exceeded my expectations once again. Looking forward to next year!

  • Absolutely perfect! One of the best Airbnbs we have stayed in. This apartment is just lovely... open concept, plenty of space, beautifully decorated and meticulously clean. Great location close to downtown Ellsworth. Barbara was a fabulous host. Hope to be back in the future.

    Erica2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Barbara is an excellent host. The space was better than the pictures portrayed and spotless. Very spacious and private. Everything we needed was there. We arrived late and she met us anyway, but had everything prepared in case we were too late. She took the time to make sure we were comfortable and knew how to operate the TV (which we never turned on) and the AC/Heater. The coffee maker was nice to have as was the full refrigerator and freezer. It was a short drive to Acadia, which is where we spent the only full day we had in the area. We would definitely stay there again!

  • Barbara was extremely kind and welcoming. Her basement apartment is very clean and comfortable and the perfect place the relax. Her place is about a 30 min drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If you don’t want to be in the business of downtown Bar Harbor it’s the perfect location with lots of cute places to stop along the way into town (including a brewery and winery). There are also lots of local restaurants and antique shops in downtown Ellsworth if you want to stay close by and explore. My husband and I had a great time and felt Barbara’s place was the perfect for us.

Both will take you to the shoreline where you can see seals, porpoises and an occasional Pilot whale. Along the way you can pick blueberries. A short bike ride around the corner is Long Pond (ANP) a popular spot for fishing, swimming, kayaking, SUP'ing. If you look closely you may see one of the handful of celebrities that have summer homes here.

  • JC's place was the perfect spot for any adventure on Mount Desert Island. 15 minutes from Bar Harbor, the two Acadia Visitor Centers, Cadillac Mountain hiking, and even the other harbors around the island. You can be so close to it all, but be in a great location to avoid most of the traffic and congested spots. Plus JC's place was super clean and cozy for a 1-2 person getaway. Highly recommend for any level of adventurer!

  • My daughter and I enjoyed being off grid, the quiet, and feeling as though we were “deep” in the woods while staying at Angela’s cabin. The off grid systems are easy to use. The fire pit and screened in porch are great. We loved the hot outdoor shower and were delighted by many butterflies each morning.

  • A great place to spend a vacation, the cabin is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. We found it a great way to relax after busy traveling excursions. We loved the co-op down the road to stock up on good food and the close proximity to Acadia and other beautiful areas!

  • As another reviewer helpfully suggested to me before booking. Look no further! This cabin is incredible. The outdoor shower was so cool! Angela suggested a great hike to Blue Hill Mountain that was close and one of the best hikes we've had in years. Thanks for this awesome stay.

  • great place to get off the grid!

    Jared2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • As someone who has helped build and maintain an off-grid cabin, this one is incredibly well built. The outdoor shower is great, the house is cozy and weather proof. It was a perfect spot to unwind and relax. We spent a full day in Acadia (40 min away) and came back for a great evening by the fire pit. Make sure to bring a cooler and ice if you want to have cold drinks. Also we went in June and the mosquitos were pretty thick - luckily there is a big zapper racket in the cabin that worked great but make sure to pack bug spray for additional protection. Overall this is a fantastic location and I highly recommend it.

Our cottage is literally built on the beach. A two minute walk from the cottage is a local lobster pound. Surry Village is a 5 minute car ride away. Blue Hill and Ellsworth are 15 minutes away by car.
  • We stayed at Shawn's cottage for our honeymoon and it was exactly what we wanted. Great amenities, thoughtful touches, amazing views, and a lobster shack 200 yards away. We loved being tucked away in a small village but still close enough to more bustling locales like Blue Hill and Ellsworth and Acadia National Park. Would definitely stay there again and we highly recommend!!

  • We loved staying at Shawn’s house! The place is beautifully situated with stunning water views from every window and tastefully decorated, fully equipped and well stocked. We were greeted by a sweet note as well as delicious baked goods and great coffee. Our communication with Shawn was very easy and quick and the recommendations we got from him were spot on. Sad to be leaving this tranquil and gorgeous place and can’t wait to come back again.
