Places to stay in Thames
Good for your Soul - the Coromandel slogan will make sense to you while using our self-contained apartment as a base, exploring the Coromandel + the Kauaeranga Valley. A large deck will spoil you with ample views of the hills and the firth of Thames.
This is a self-contained flat just for you, with a big deck for relaxing and al fresco dining. The views across the hilly bush and the sea are inspiring. A fully equipped kitchen (benchtop hob) with dining area, a bathroom with shower, a bedroom for two, and a living room area with 3 beds if you are a family, are now waiting for you. Good unlimited WiFi (but no TV). Restore your energy levels here, breath and learn what the Coromandel and the Kauaeranga Valley have to offer you. Enjoy our provided breakfast and make a plan for each new day! Bushwalks in the immediate surroundings. Situated 3.5 km from town centre and coast in quiet residential area, at the entrance of the Kauaeranga Valley. Short bike ride or drive to waterholes for bathing, and seaside walks. Explore all the famous sites of the Coromandel and the more insider's places around us. For rainy days, we have lots of interesting literature about New Zealand, and you've got the hot pools of Miranda close by.
We are located at the entrance to the Kauaeranga Valley with many bush walks and mountain climbing and abseiling into the gorge. Thames town centre with lots of Restaurants, Cafés and Museums is 3.5 km or 45 minutes walk / 5 minutes drive from us. There is a nice walk along the tidal shore where you can watch sea birds. 10 minutes drive up the coast from Thames there are sandy beaches good for bathing. Moreover, the whole Coromandel and most of Waikato is at your immediate reach for a half or a full day tour - there are so many wonderful places and beaches in close vicinity that any length of your stay will seem too short.... Thames is also the starting point for the newly opened Hauraki Rail Trail, a 50 km bicycle trail to Waihi - you can rent our electric bikes at a special discount price (we run an electric bikes rental as well). Whatever activity you might favour - hiking, biking, bathing, kayaking, paddeling, snorkeling, sightseeing, bird-watching, abseiling, fishing or just relaxing - we are able to give you lots of tips how to make the most out of your stay on the Coromandel Peninsula. And you will wish to come back. Matthias and Elena

This is a free standing studio, light, airy & ambient, with french doors leading to your own private deck and overlooking an old fashioned orchard. Recently refurbished, modern ensuite, tasteful colours and a top quality queen sized bed. Limited kitchen facilities include microwave, electric frypan, hotplate and and an outdoor barbeque. Cutlery, crockery, glassware etc are provided.
Situated in a secluded valley with an abundance of native bird life, and just 5 mins walk from town. The nearest beach is only a kilometre or so away. We do things a little differently, in that we try to keep cost down and cater to the budget traveller who is prepared to provide their own linen, and to clean up leaving the space as you find it. The base fee is calculated around you doing the cleaning and providing your own bedsheets, pillowcases and towels [ warm duvets and pillows provided for you]. If you'd like us to take care of these things then an extra one off fee of $15 for linen and $20 for cleaning is charged, please advise at time of booking.

A peaceful haven situated in a bush setting. The ideal place to use a base for visiting the Coromandel Peninsula. Walking, swimming, hiking and biking trails are all within easy reach. We love living here and sharing it with guests.
A self contained studio apartment 2km north of Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula, North Island, New Zealand. Situated at the entrance to the Tararu Valley in a peaceful bush and unique garden setting we are three minutes walk to the beach. It is five minutes cycle to the start of the Hauraki Rail Trail and a bush walk starts on site. You can relax here or visit one of the many nearby attractions including mining and maori heritage sites. Come to our place for a holiday to remember. The upstairs bedroom had two queen sized and one single bed. The downstairs lounge area has one double sofa bed. All linen provided. There is a kitchen with fridge, coffee maker, microwave and double hot plate. We also have a BBQ, CD player and two TV's. There is also air conditioning. We are usually able to provide meals as required or restaurants and shops are a five minute drive away. A continental breakfast is available for an extra charge of $10 per person. Please note our pricing ($90) is for one person and each extra person is another $25 N.Z. so $115 for two people. Children are charged at the per person rate ($25) a night. A cycle trail, historic mining sites, beaches and museums are close by and there are many walking tracks in the Coromandel Forest Park. A popular day walk to the Pinnacles is a half hour drive away. Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach are and hour and a half away. There are local fishing charters for snapper, kahawai and kingfish. There is a bus service to Thames weekdays and pick-up can be arranged from the station. We offer friendly service and will do everything we can to cater for guests individual needs in our restful setting.
A bush walk starts at the bottom of the driveway. A popular creek swimming hole is just a few metres walk down the hill. There is motor camp close by. Bird life here is abundant. Many guests visit Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove about an hours drive away or do a Coromandel loop drive which takes a day.

"Wens Place" is a delightful 1 bedroom cottage in a peaceful and private bush setting. Fully self contained with everything you need to for a fabulous holiday. Set in the bush above the town, it has the tranquility of the bush but is only a few minutes from Thames. The hosts live next door but your privacy is assured. There is ample room to park your boat if required. Thames is the Gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula and is not far from all the beautiful beaches including Hot Water Beach.
The bedroom has windows and french doors on three sides all surrounded by bush with pathways all around. Theres a deck leading from the frenchdoors with a BBQ. At the front of the cabin is a private outdoor patio with table, seating and an umbrella. inside is a pot belly fire with firewood supplied for those chilly evenings.
The west coast of the peninsula is quite stunning and differs from the east coast (which has beautiful long, sandy beaches) in that a lot of the coastline is rocky with some sandy beaches. The rocks are covered in oysters and the mussel farms in the firth attract the fish, mainly snapper so the fishing over the farms is usually very successful. Being an old gold mining town theres some lovely old buildings and the hills around Thames are covered in old gold mines and shafts. Many of the walking tracks in the areas are dotted with old gold mine shafts, so if you're not keen on swimming, fishing or diving theres plenty of great walks with a bit of history thrown in.
  • Fantastic accommodation. Private, sparkling clean, comfortable with lots of lovely touches. Great location and so quiet. The road and driveway up to the premises is a bit bumpy, but fine when you get used to it! Would love to come and stay again.

  • A lovely rustic place. Everything we required was supplied. I just wish we could have stayed longer.

    David2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We felt so comfortable in this cabin. Very much like our home. I loved all the little retro and vintage touches around the place. My only wish is that I could have stayed there longer to appreciate your place and the beautiful surrounding. I am sure there would be some great local hikes around the property to enjoy. I especially loved the little couch area on the porch outside the bedroom. What a place to relax with a morning coffee!!

  • My second stay at Wendy's place - it's well located and spacious, and Wendy is friendly and helpful. Recommended!

The Butterfly House studio is situated in the Thames hills with views spanning from Mt Te Aroha and over the Hauraki Gulf towards Coromandel. Designed and built in 1959 by Rigby Mullen, we invite you to come and stay in a true piece of New Zealand Mid Century Modern Architecture. Just 1 hour 20 minutes from Auckland International Airport, we are nestled in the heart of Thames and at the beginning of the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. The perfect spot to explore all the Coromandel has to offer.
We offer a very comfortable queen sized bed. An open plan living space with Freeview tv, a bathroom and toilet. There's also a kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities, microwave oven, fridge, kettle and toaster (Dishes can be done in the bathroom, there is liquid under the bathroom sink). The Butterfly House Studio Kitchenette is stocked with coffee, milk, tea, sugar, salt & pepper, also fresh Ancient Grains & Superfruits Luxury Toasted Muesli, & greek yogurt for you to enjoy at breakfast time.
Thames is the gateway to great experiences on the Coromandel. It is a crafty town proud of it's heritage and connected to the natural environment with expansive bush wilderness as its back drop. It has many delightful shops with local produce, art & friendly service. Our Thames/Peninsula Picks: -Thames Markets every Saturday from 8am - 12pm in Grahamstown, where you can shop for homegrown produce, including breads, pastries, cheeses, and fresh organic fruit and veges. -Cafe Melbourne, our pick definitely goes the way of the amazing Fish Curry & the Salted Caramel crackers, serving Allpress coffee. -Waiomu Beach Cafe & The Waiomu Kauris walk. The walk is beautiful but not to long or challenging, just enough that you feel you have earn't your Supreme coffee & delicious food. The cafe is located across the road from the beautiful Waiomu Beach (also worth a stroll along) -Pinnacles Walk. Yes I have done this once, I was unfit, but it was achievable and totally worth the day it takes to walk up, enjoy the view (& perhaps a packed lunch) and walk back down. The start of the walk is a 35 minute drive up the Kaueranga Valley from The Butterfly House Studio. There are a number of other walks, smaller but still as beautiful up the Kaueranga Valley. -Hauraki Rail Trail, hire bikes from our local bike store (Jolly Bikes) & head out on the rail trail, there are some beautiful cafes along the way (Matatoki Cheese Farm is usually my pit stop!). -Nakontong Thai Restaurant is one of our favourite local spots for dinner, fresh Thai cuisine with great service. -The Wharf Coffee House & Bar is a great spot for fish & chips, sit out on the rustic dock of the historic Shortland Wharf. -Day trip to New Chums beach, about a 1 hour 40 minute drive from Thames, you will see why it was voted one of The Lonely Planets top beaches in the world. -Cathedral Cove (also breath taking) - approx 1 hour 30 minute drive. You drive through Tairua, the perfect beach town to stop and enjoy a coffee. -Hot Water Beach, just be sure to check times as you want to go there at low tide - approx 1 hour 30 drive. Again driving through Tairua, which is full of cute cafes and food stops. -Head to Pauanui and climb Mt Pauanui for amazing views, also a great spot to learnt to surf or paddle board with our friends at The Outback Surfshop. -Cycling, weather it be training or riding the K2 loop around the Coromandel (the K2 is a 200 km bike race held on the peninsula in November) or hitting the trails, we are the perfect base to get out and experience bike riding like nowhere else! We are central to cities also, travelling times to some of the great spots around NZ are: Tauranga/Mt Mauanganui - 1 hour 45 minutes Taupo - 2 hours 45 minutes Auckland - 1 hour 30 minutes Hamilton - 1 hour 30 minutes

    Luan2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The place looks much better than on the pictures and was actually a bit like a travel back in time :) You can feel the history of the Shop when you are staying there and the laundry and dryer are a great plus for long time travelers :)

    Martin2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying at "The Shop", very clean and spacious. Gen was great at responding and providing local knowledge on Thames restaurants etc. Good value.

  • Rojo and his wife were lovely though - they went out of their way to return my phone charger that I had left behind!! The room is basic, it would be a good addition to have a bedside light. It was great to be able to use the washing machine.

    Laura2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A great space! Thank you

    María Alejandra2020-02-15T00:00:00Z

Kuranui Cottage has consistent rave reviews. Originally built in 1869 recently extensively renovated, with beautiful view of Kuranui Bay and reserve across the road. A short walk to historic Thames and fabulous cafes and bars. Close to Coromandel, Hauraki rail trail, Pinnacles, etc, 2 double bedrooms 2 bathrooms and spa, awesome sunsets! This is a luxury stay with a difference - this feels like home and you wont want to leave. Fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, milk no extra charge You will LOVE IT!
The cottage has 2 double bedrooms, two bathrooms including a luxurious 2 person bath overlooking the garden. A spa pool set in the garden overlooking the bay, with barbecue, table and chairs, perfect for sunset
Thames is a lively community - there is always something interesting going on, it celebrates its past of gold mining - has historical weeks where every one gets dressed up or the the famous "Steam Punk" festival in Nov. 90 mins from Auckland, Coromandel, close to Pinnacles, Hot Water beach, Hauraki Rail trail, Cathedral Cove. It is at the centre of everything!
  • Don't even think twice. There's a little traffic noise from the road, but I bet you'll forget about it.

    Jacob2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a perfect home base for our explorations of the Coromandel peninsula. Linda’s tips, plus the superb location, and outstanding accommodation made for the best introduction to New Zealand. It truly did feel like home. Thank you for all you do Linda. Much appreciated.

    Jamie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was beautiful. It was clean and tidy, very spacious and comfortable, equipped with everything we needed. The view was marvelous, we enjoyed the sunset from the hot tub. It is only a few minutes drive from the town center. For me it was a little noisy, beacuse the main road goes directly in front of the house. But apart from this we enjoyed every minutes of our stay here.

    Krisztina2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant stay at Linda’s place. It was clean and very well equipped. Very comfortable with everything we needed for a few nights exploring the Coromandel. The hot tub was a welcome extra and the bath tub is huge! Would definitely recommend.

Nestled amongst a beautiful private jungle garden and citrus orchard, only a few steps away from the beach. This beachside get-away is perfect for solo travellers and couples. The spacious cabin and separate full bathroom were completely renovated in July 2017. Equipped with all the necessities you need for a relaxed stay. Enjoy the peace and curl up with a book or wander along the stunning Coromandel coastline. A perfect spot for swimming, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking or even kitesurfing.
Our guests love the location, with the cabin in amongst the fruit trees listening to birdsong and just a few steps to the beach, it really is ideal. We are passionate about the environment and have used recycled materials where possible. The cabin is set in a citrus fruit orchard, help yourself to free fruit ! We love travelling and have made our space as cosy as possible, we always welcome new ideas and feedback. If you want the perfect getaway, away from the city, away from WIFI, just pure chill and relax, you will find it here. The cabin can be set up with an additional single bed (floor mattress) including bedding, ideal for a child or additional guest.
The neighbourhood is very friendly, people will say hello. There is a fantastic coffee shop / cafe / restaurant / pizzeria only 5 minutes drive away. Small shop with takeaways about a 5-10 minute walk. Thames is 10-15 min drive (i recommend driving slowly to enjoy the breathtaking view) and there you will find a full supply of shops, supermarkets, the famous Saturday markets and much more
  • The place was super cool and a great stay with your own private bathroom and kitchen which was lovely! Very cute stay that had privacy, was clean, and a nice space to relax in 😊

    Nicole2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy & romantic cabin set beside a beautiful beach on the coast. Glass of wine to watch the sunset was a great tip by the host. Super comfy bed, clean and well designed space. We could only stay the one night but would highly recommend staying longer!

    Darragh2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Natalie and Craig’s place is a perfect getaway - we came just for a couple of nights to have a break while the grandparents looked after the kids, and it couldn’t have been better. The beach is literally seconds away, the cabin itself is cosy and secluded, and Natalie and Craig are very attentive hosts, whilst also giving you total privacy. We will (hopefully!) be back.

    Ruth2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin, really a special place to be! If you are a bit tall (1,80m +) be prepared not to be able to stand up straight in all of the cabin. Did not matter much to us anyway, we had a great time! Natalie and Craig put up a mosquito net, which is very helpful as there are quite some of them. In short: recommended!

    Huub2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in the tiny house. Natalie was very accommodation and gave us great recommendations when we arrived. The little touches in the place made it very homely and we wished we could have stayed for more than one night. The place is right on the beach so great to relax, have a swim and watch the sunset. Very nice to unwind for a short stay.

    Martin2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A good retreat after a hard days travelling. All very good value! You have your own private space and are just a few paces away from the beach. One downside I found, although the host provides a microwave, hot plate, saucepan and frying pan there are no dishes to use to put in microwave or to whip an egg up. This makes cooking very difficult!

    Sarah2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Surprising on the outside but the interior was perfectly functional the necessary for cooking and clean

    Marc2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Private little cabin with a comfortable bed. Very friendly host, and an extra large size bar fridge which held all our cold goods and bottles with ease. I would recommend it, it was really nice. Great access to the beach. Loved travelling to explore all of Coromandel.

Great location - 10 mins walk to cafe's, restaurants, supermarket and Hospital. 75 mins drive from Auckland International Airport. Our home offers separate private guest accommodation in the downstairs of our house, with separate access for guests' convenience. Thames is well situated for travelers exploring the scenic Coromandel Peninsula, the Kauaeranga Valley and other attractions within the area. Easy access to walking tracks and the Hauraki Rail Trail. Beaches are within an easy drive.
The Brook is located in a quiet street. We offer comfortable surroundings for people to relax and enjoy. The airbnb guest suite is spacious, tastefully decorated with separate bedroom, a comfortable queen size bed and quality bedding, electric blanket, spacious closet with shelves and coat hangers. The bathroom /toilet is fully tiled with a good size walk-in shower and heat lamps. There is a large lounge/dining area with limited cooking facilities. However, there is a microwave, electric kettle, toaster and small fridge. Tea, coffee, milk, cutlery, crockery, glassware and sink are provided. A BBQ is available. Off the main living area, there is seating under the pergola to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening, in a peaceful garden setting. So relax and listen to the birdsong from the native bird life that visit our garden seasonally. Browse at the popular Saturday morning market or enjoy a coffee in one of the many cafes.
We live in an older established friendly neighbourhood. Close to all amenities.
  • This Air BnB is a gem. It is very tastefully furnished and decorated and is very homey and comfortable. The hosts, James and Robyn, are lovely people. They met us when we arrived and provided an orientation to the accommodation and the area straightaway. The accommodation provides easy access to downtown Thames, which is a lovely town, as well as for day trips to the attractions on the Coromandel Peninsula. The host provides many thoughtful touches and the property is absolutely beautiful. I give this one 5 stars - it is one of the nicest ones we’ve stayed in and I do not hesitate to recommend.

    Marian2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great rental in a spacious and private space. We had our own lounge area that we spent most of our time in. The highlight was watching the sunset from our favorite spot, the window seat.

It offers local Bike Trails, an abundance of Bush Walks, Historical Museums, and we also have movies, great restaurants and cafes.
The house is a well loved family home. It has 1 x large room with a Queen Bed for couples and 3 x small bedrooms upstairs suitable for children only (note that mattress are on floor). Kitchen has everything you need, plus a dinning room with large table. Lounge with conservatory room that has a view over town and sea, great sunsets to watch. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets) are also welcome.

  • Yolanda's place is very quirky and we felt straight away at home. There is a calm, homely feeling ("gezellig") while we were in the house. While the house does need some TLC it was spotless and the bedroom was spacious. Lovely to meet such a caring host. All the best from Henk & Deborah

    Deborah2018-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Yolanda's house is comfortable with amazing views of Thames and the Firth. The house is full of character and easy to relax in. Yolanda was very willing to help us and provide advice for our trip. Thank you and take care!

    Nico2018-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Yolanda is a wonderful host. I only stayed for a night as I went to the sleeping gods canyon, but it is very easy to connect with her. She has many stories to share. And the dorm is very nice, too. Clean, and overall a really nice bed and a beautiful view. I can definitely recommend it.

    Paul2018-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely stay at Yolanda’s place. Just like home. Very helpful host. Lovely fresh linen on beds.

A tastefully renovated 1 bedroom, fully self -contained Victorian cottage set in 3.5 acres of tranquil, park-like rural land. The property backs onto the Kauaeranga River, a beautiful clean flowing river with an idyllic swimming hole at the end of the property. The majestic Pinnacles walking track is at the end of the road. The cottage is just 5km from the centre of Thames township; everything is nearby, including the popular Hauraki Rail Trail which is a 3.5km cycle from Bakehouse Cottage.
Everything you need for an extended stay is available in the cottage - cooking facilities, laundry, DVDs, books, and comfortable furniture. The bedroom is set up for either 2 singles or as a super-king bed. For ambience, a wood-burner keeps the cottage warm in winter if you do not want to use the heating. There is no shortage of hot water which is heated by gas. And to while away those lazy afternoons with a good book, the front verandah over-looking the cottage garden has comfortable cane arm chairs.
Thames township has an amazing array of cafes and the Saturday market in town is not to be missed. A favourite of the locals is Fish & Chips on the wharf - just magic.
  • What a lovely cottage!! The special touches and sweetness of this cottage made our stay very memorable. Very clean and quiet and quaint...We loved our stay❤️

  • Beautiful accommodation a great setting. I stayed for work and would love to return for a more relaxing break!

  • Magnificently restored cottage with great amenities

    John2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely hideaway to relax amd explore the Coramandel. The attention to detail and high quality of all the furnishings etc is exceptional.

    Alison2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Bakehouse Cottage in Thames is delightful: a beautifully renovated Victorian cottage with lots of period details including photos, items of clothing and antique china, but also with all the mod cons that guests might need. These include a big kitchen and dining area, a big walk-in shower (with washing machine and laundry facilities) and a comfortable sitting area, with television, DVD player and lots of DVDs (which we didn't have time to watch, sadly!). Oh, and a lovely verandah complete with chairs. Keri was a very welcoming and friendly host (we didn't get to meet Peter, but I'm sure he'd be welcoming and friendly too!), and provided little extras such as chocolates and eggs. Thames is ideally situated as a starting point for exploring the Coromandel Peninsula: highly recommended!

    Kate2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Bakehouse cottage is a great place to stay - right in the heart of some fantastic walking trails.

    Ieuan2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very cute, historic cottage in a lovely rural setting. Spotlessly clean. Welcoming hosts. I was woken at 6.30am by loud baa's of sheep and road noise because many windows were open with hot weather but otherwise a very comfortable stay.

    Robin2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed a great stay here after completing the Pinnacles walk. Enjoyed the fruit from the orchard and the swimming holes at bottom of the property. Hosts were very welcoming and great people. Highly Recommend. Thanks again

The HIlltop is a warm, comfortable house that should suit anyone wanting to spend some time in the area.
The house has 3 bedrooms, one of them a dedicated space for airbnb guests. The kitchen & bathroom are both modern with everything guests will need for a comfortable stay. There is a great deck for outside dining in nice weather.
Thames is a great town to live in. Its the gateway to the Coromandel & all it has to offer. It has lots of cafes & other eating places to enjoy. Goldmining was big in the regions heyday so there is plenty to learn about that period.

  • Very comfortable room and very well equipped house. It was nice to enjoy the breakfast (included ; bread, coffee or tea and cereals). Totally worth it for the price. And it’s a good base to enjoy the walks (nice one to Hoffman pool 12km away and Pinacles further on the same road) and the rest of the Peninsula.

  • This was our second time staying at Cherie's, still as nice as we'd expected.

    Siyi2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was great! Location was perfect for our travels on the way back towards Auckland. The property was gorgeous and the space was inviting. We were greeted by the cutest pup when we drove up, I believe his name was Fen. Then we were shown around the property a bit and got to say hello to the cows! Definitely a highlight! Cherie was amazing and super responsive, definitely made the process smooth and enjoyable while also giving lots of privacy. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Michelle2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This accomodation is stunning. No question. From the moment you drive in you realise how special it is. Cherie and her husband have created a stylish, spacious and very tidy accomodation that has everything you need. The views from the windows out to the fields and cows are breathtaking. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was heaven. Easy 5 minute drive into main shops of Thames. We will definitely be booking this again.

    Anna2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Kathleen's place is located in the beautiful Kauaeranga valley close to the Pinnacles hike. You'll enjoy a stunning view of the valley while staying there. Kathleen is an attentive host and prepared an amazing breakfast before I headed out for my hike. Every morning I was greeted by Prince, the curious 1-year mini-horse :). Overall a lovely place to spend some quiet time.

  • Kathleen and Steve are great hosts and very warm people.

  • Kathleen and her family were fantastic hosts. The surroundings and the house were amazing and the view from the terrace was stunning. Everything was like in the pictures. There was a lovingly prepared breakfast and I have received many tips for things to do in Coromandel. With the little horses, the llamas, dogs and cats, you really felt like you were on a farm. I highly recommend the place.

    Jennifer2019-03-12T00:00:00Z

  • I had a great time at Kathleen’s beautiful farm. The room was very comfortable and clean. The view from the veranda very scenic and at night perfect to enjoy the milky-way while cuddling their friendly dog. Moreover, Kathleen prepared a perfect breakfast with fresh scrambled egg for me and gave me great tipps for the rest of my journey. And her husband introduced me to the cute mini horses and lamas. I would definitely come back and can highly recommend to stay there.

  • What a lovely space to stay in. Beautiful, comfortable and practical! The gardens gorgeous, the rooms spacious with everything to hand. But more than that, Geoff and Prue are great hosts - interesting and interested people. They’re helpful but not pushy, warm and friendly and generous to a fault. Highly recommend !

    Tony2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Prue and Geoff are lovely hosts. They supplied fresh milk, fruit, condiments, yoghurts and cereal which was a lovely start to our stay. The accommodation is lovely with a private courtyard, 2 bedrooms, a sitting room and a large general space with a kitchen area. There were chairs and beach towels available along with children’s buckets, spades etc. It is situated a mile or so out of town. We explored the Coromandel peninsula extensively and the beaches on the east coast were beautiful. I would recommend the accommodation to anyone wanting a peaceful, comfortable place to stay in Thames.

Ideal for that comfy get away whether holiday or for business. In the heat of the summer a large cool and airy bedroom by night ready for a day full of activity and fun. Or out of the cold in winter the fire will warm everyone.
Your stay will include breakfast which will consist of cereal or toast and a selection of jams and other spreads, teas coffees and juices. Laundry can be washed and hung out to dry for a small fee.
Some guests might like to cycle the nearby rail trail while others take a hike in the Kaueranga Valley that surrounds us. More relaxing would be the surf along the Thames Coast or even a spot of fishing atPauanui and Tairua only 45 minutes away, then come back to central Thames for shopping, bars, cafes and historic places of interest. For those that want to venture over the Kopu bridge, try the beautiful Ngatea Water Gardens then head out to Kaiaua for a spot of bird watching and on the way back you could call into the Miranda Hot Pools and soak your ails away.

Our light and cosy studio is situated under our house with its own entrance and is equipped with all you might need for a comfortable stay including continental breakfast. We love living where we are in friendly Thames with its unique shops and cafes and hope that you will enjoy it too. Thames is ideally situated for exploring the Coromandel and the northern Waikato.
Our spacious studio room has a double bed, a kitchen which includes a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Cutlery, crockery, cafetieres, coffee grinder and glassware are provided as are towels and bed linen. The shower room is small but perfectly formed. We also provide continental breakfast (i.e. juice, cereals, toast/jam, tea and coffee) for you to help yourselves to.
We live a few minutes drive from Thames town centre or a very pleasant 20 minute walk. Thames itself has some lovely individual shops and some great cafes plus a wonderful Saturday market. It is a great base for exploring the Coromandel, the Hauraki Rail Trail, the Kaueranga Valley Pinnacles Walk, Miranda...the choices are endless. We are just 4omins drive from popular Pauanui, 1 hr from Hamilton. 1.5 hrs from Auckland and Tauranga.
  • We were at Thames a few nights for a cycling and road trip. Susan and Mehmet met us when we arrived, and they were very friendly and helpful. Susan was very kind to check on us if we needed more milk and bread. We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay, and would not hesitate to recommend Fantail Studio to anyone visiting Thames.

We're up the Waiotahi Valley in the heart of the old Thames goldfields. We're tucked into the peace and quiet of the bush covered hills yet walking distance to the movies, Thames Saturday market, centre of town, and the Hauraki Rail Trail. We want to share our piece of paradise with you. Go to sleep to the sound of the stream and the morepork/ruru and awake to the sound of the birds. Perfect for two but plenty of room for more. We also always appreciate some indication of arrival time.
Three minutes walk to the start of walking and mountain biking tracks that will take you all over the Corromandel ranges.
  • This is a true juwel to stay in. A wonderfull quiet paradise with happy and warm hearted hostes. The big room is like a one room appartement with everything you need and more : -) Thank you for a wonderfull time, Sean and Maree
