Idyllic Irish hideaway 10 miles from Sligo

TinaRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
Conor’s place was a wonderful place to stay. Close to so many beautiful places to hike. Dromahair itself is a very small village with 2 pubs, 1 restaurant and a grocery store. They are all walkable from the house which was very convenient. Conor recommended several walks which we did, which were very nice. We had issues with the hot water the first morning , and when I brought it to Conor’s attention, he resolved it immediately. Great host, very communicative. Would highly recommend this place.

Historical country home/garden with alpaca farm.

AislingRating, 5 stars10 months ago
The premise of our trip to Ireland this time, was to show our kids the beauty of the island and the area I grew up in , while also getting away from it all. We arrived to Knockvicar house after a week on the Wild Atlantic Way and it was an absolute pleasure from the first moment. The house is spacious and comfortable and so interesting. The gardens and surrounding area are just beautiful. Morning coffee @ the outdoor table was a real treat. It’s in a great location near to Carrick-on-Shannon, Boyle, Lough Key forest park and also the alpaca farm, of course. Restaurants and bars nearby. Our only regret is that we didn’t book for longer. Angela was the perfect hostess, helpful and informative and thoughtful. There is plenty of touristic information supplied at the house also. We had a wonderful stay.

Irish Country Village Home

DiRating, 5 stars6 months ago
Conor's house is just awesome. Loved staying there from the cosy sitting/TV room, to the bright open kitchen/dining areas and the wonderful bedrooms. The beds we used were super comfortable and the linen was high quality and felt so nice. Conor is an amazing host who is very kind. Not only did he meet, he also left some food for us - sausages, bacon, eggs, milk, bread etc. Just wonderful. His mum is also super nice. You need a car. There is only one place to eat - O'Dowds pub (100 metres approx. away) however only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday from lunchtime to 6 pm. Ballaghadareen is about 15 mins away with more options.

rough & ready cottage stay

RobertRating, 5 stars34 months ago
I really loved staying this place. It is super-cosy, rustic and quaint. If you're looking to get away from the noise of the city, this place is it. MK's ethos too is commendable. She believes that people should have to opportunity to travel anywhere, and not have to pay an arm and a leg in the process. When i told people how much money it was costing me to essentially have my own cottage in the countryside for 3 nights they were rightly flabbergasted. It was an absolute steal. Just to dispell any concerns, it is not the Hilton, but nore is it advertised as such. There is no tv, the wifi was not great, and because of where the cottage is located, the signal on your phone won't be ideal either. I reccomend bringing a book! The kitchen is fully loaded with pans and whatnot, but i could never figure out how to get the oven working. That's probably my own limitation rather than the oven's! MK mentions that staying here is basically like camping but inside. My interpretation of that is to think of it like a very large caravan that's not going anywhere 🤷🏻‍♂️ The take away point in all this is that if you want to stay here for a few nights, I highly recommend it. It is totally worth it. MK was very contactable. I slept like a log. I enjoyed my morning coffees watching the sunrise on the little hill. And most of all, I fell in love with the little kitty who lives here, and by proximity the beautiful county of Sligo. Im already looking forward to going back!🇮🇪

Lough Arrow Cottage

FerdiaRating, 5 stars1 month ago
A beautiful cottage surrounded by a large peaceful garden on the shore of Lough Arrow. Bird songs all day, with kingfisher, swans, willow warblers and tree-creeper making an appearance. We took the short drive to see the ancient tombs of Carrowkeel and stunning views over Sligo. Lots to do and see and excellent restaurants in nearby Boyle. Had a wonderful paddle in kayaks at Lough Key. And the sun shone endlessly! Great weekend! We'll be back!

Ardcarne Lodge, Lough Key

RebeccaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
My family loved our stay at Ardcarne Lodge. Brian and his parents were helpful and welcoming, with lots of local recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing, and the lodge itself was utterly charming. We also appreciated the fresh flowers, and the grocery essentials in the fridge. Our stay here was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland!
