You have to try a pasty which is a Cornish hot filled pastry pocket, available in both savory and sweet. It is part of the local history. Minors, who came from the Cornish region in England, would take this for their meal as they head off to the mines, as it is hearty and easy to transport... and it is DELICOUS!

A pasty (pronounced past- ee) is a a Cornish pastry, often filled with meat, brought here by miners in the 1840s. It is most similar to an empanada. This is a great to go food.

Pasties are a Grass Valley tradition, stemming from the Cornish miners who populated the area during the gold mining days. These are handheld savory pies (they offer a vegetarian option). This little shop makes really good ones if you just want to pick up something quick for lunch or dinner. Takeout only. Bring your appetite, the pasties are huge.
