Take the RED or BLUE Max lines to Washington Park home of the Experimental Rose Garden, and Japanese Garden. Admission to the park is free. Though there is an admission fee for the Portland Japanese Garden. FYI: The Oregon Zoo has its own separate MAX stop.
This is a good one in the Zoo parking lot. The Goose Hollow Max train stop puts you across the street from the iconic Goose Hollow Inn with a great Reuben sandwich.
Washington Park is home to numerous activities for all. The best way to get there is on the MAX Blue or Red trains. The stop hosts the Oregon Zoo, Forestry Center, Portland Children's Museum, and is the gateway to the famous Washington Park hiking trails that can connect you to the Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, and scenic overlooks of the city. This can easily be a full day adventure and it is free to roam the park via the trail system. You MAX train ticket also grants you passage on the park shuttle bus that is operated by the local bus system.
