The small city of San Felipe belongs to the department of Retalhuleu, in the southwestern region of Guatemala. It is located 9 miles (14 km) from the departmental capital of Retalhuleu and 116 miles (185 km) from Guatemala City. San Felipe, was founded by the Franciscan friars in the year of 1514. On August 27, 1836 it was elevated to the category of municipality. It celebrates its titular fair in honor of the Virgin of Santa Catalina de Alejandría, from November 20 to 26 with different cultural and sports activities, with the 25th being the day of greatest celebration with the traditional social dance at night. El municipio de San Felipe pertenece al departamento de Retalhuleu, en la región suroccidental de Guatemala. Se encuentra localizado a 14 Kms. de la cabecera departamental de Retalhuleu y a 185 Kms. de la ciudad de Guatemala. San Felipe, fue fundado por los frailes franciscanos en el año de 1514. El 27 de agosto de 1836 fue elevado a la categoría de municipio. Celebra su feria titular en honor a la virgen de Santa Catalina de Alejandría, del 20 al 26 de noviembre con diferentes actividades culturales y deportivas, siendo el 25 el día de mayor celebración con el tradicional baile social por la noche.
