Why locals recommend it

This is a really great French restaurant steeped in history. I think of it as a power lunch spot. And on Fridays you’ll often see Willie Brown there. In the past, it was Willie Brown and Wilkes Bashford and they had a whole crew who would eat lunch there every Friday. It’s where Herb Caen used to reside for lunch almost every day. Herb Caen was a fixture in San Francisco; he had a daily column in the Chronicle newspaper. He did not pull any punches. If you wanted to know what was going on in the city, all you needed to do was read Herb Caen’s column each day.

Traditional French bistro that was frequented by the SF big shots (Wilkes Bashford, Willy Brown, Herb Caen). Pre-Covid, we went here every Christmas with our kids.
