Airbnb, for me, has always been about more than just finding a place to sleep. It is about connection—discovering places that feel a little magical, and meeting hosts who welcome you into their world, even if just for a short while. I used to bring small gifts as a way of saying thank you for that privilege. Wendy’s place reminded me why I fell in love with that kind of travel in the first place. From the moment we arrived, Wendy greeted us with warmth and genuine care. Her 5-6 hectare property is something truly special, with lakes and rivers flowing through it like a hidden sanctuary. We had the chance to kayak on her private waters, unwind in a beautiful outdoor bath under the open sky, and spend the evening around the fire, toasting marshmallows beneath the stars. Everything the other reviews mention is 100% true. If you are considering booking, do yourself a favour—stay for more than one night if you can. We only had one, but it felt like a world away from everything.

A lovely warm and comfortable cottage in beautiful private surroundings an easy 15 minute drive from Hokitika township. Deborah made us feel right at home and gave useful suggestions for local walks and things to do. Having a fully equipped kitchen was great, and the king-size bed was very comfortable. We highly recommend the cottage to others and hope we can stay again in the future.
