House holiday rentals in Mount Desert Island

The house was perfect for us. Very clean and organized. Great host always responded in a timely manner. Was only about a 30 to 40 minute drive to Acadia National Park & Bar harbor, depending on traffic it could take longer. If we ever make it back to Maine I would definitely stay at the Higgins Retreat again. Thanks again Richard & Tina.

We felt like at home. The house is located in a private property with swimming pool and tennis courts. It’s very clean and very peaceful. Just a clarification about the description : there’s no bathroom in the basement. Then if you come with elderly people or very young kids, it could be annoying. If you like cooking, the kitchen is very well equipped. We´ll keep a very good memory of our stay in Ducktrap Retreat during the colorful foliage season.

My return visit to the Boathouse was even lovelier than I hoped it would be. The location can't be matched by anything else I've seen. I enjoyed a September visit with my dog and was lucky to have pristine weather. I lived a very simple and healthy outdoors life and came home the better for it. The Boathouse is true to its description: it is simple and rustic and uncomplicated but well-equipped, and is perfect for one-and-dog, or for two people. A little coming-and-going from the neighboring houses meant that I didn't feel isolated. Margaret is truly an exceptional and friendly host who communicates promptly and clearly. I almost hesitate to share "my" Boathouse location with too many of my back-home friends because it feels so intimate and special. I already want to be back there. I offer my deep thanks to Margaret and to the place that I could - briefly - call home.

We got a very rainy week in Maine but still enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable and well stocked house, views, decks and incredible garden. Beautiful restaurants, bookstores and wine and antique shops near by. Hope to return to very soon.

I recently stayed with my family at this incredible Airbnb that exceeded all my expectations. This property offered a hot tub, a pool table, and a level of privacy and tranquility that made for a truly relaxing getaway. One of the highlights of our stay was being able to watch the northern lights from the hot tub – it was absolutely magical. We spent a week in Acadia, and the location was perfect, just 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor or the nearest town. The hosts were very responsive, and the place was fantastic for families, being both kid and pet friendly. It was a week filled with unforgettable moments, and I can't recommend this place enough!

We loved the place! The house is cozy and roomy but feels secluded even though you are right at the entrance of the camp grounds. It is conveniently located a short drive to downtown bar harbor and Acadia NP so you aren’t wasting much time driving around. Highly recommended the place to couples/small families looking for a nice place to stay on MDI!

Great house for our family! Several family members came into town for a college graduation, it was perfect! Lots of room and the host was very easy to reach and was flexible.

So many great things to stay about this fantastic Airbnb: amazing location, gorgeous backyard, everything was clean and neat. The hosts had excellent communication and were responsive as questions came up. They had great recommendations for supermarkets, hikes, local restaurants. There were so many little things that showed attention to detail: sound machines in every room, jewelry bowls on nightstands, good quality cosmetics, detergent for the washing machine, etc. The house has 3 bedrooms: all the linens were clean and neat. The one thing to keep in mind is that the third bedroom was smaller and had less space than the other two with no furniture - this would be perfect for a family with kids but was not ideal for 3 friends traveling since not all the bedrooms were exactly equitable. Overall, we had an amazing experience - it was such a pleasure to stay there.

We had a wonderful stay at this Southwest Harbor rental! The owners were welcoming, thoughtful, and responsive. The home met our needs and we had everything we needed. One thing to note is the laundry is in the basement so if you have mobility issues that could be an issue but the machines worked well and it’s always nice to be able to have clean laundry on a trip. One of our favorite things about this home was the giant tv and comfortable seating for movie nights after exploring the area all day. I would recommend this rental if you are interested in staying in a quiet and comfortable home on your trip to area!

We loved our stay. It was just what we needed at the end of the day after exploring Acadia and the small towns scattered throughout the area. It was so cozy and we would definitely come back.

We really enjoyed our time here with our two dogs. We came in their off season so locally most things were closed but Bar Harbor was a short drive and we were still able to enjoy the park even in the rainy weather. House was spotless and the hot tub was a nice surprise.

Bendigo and Jenni were great hosts from the start. They communicated before we arrived and checked in with us regularly throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Their house is beautiful and looks just like the photos. Every room was meticulously clean and so lovely. The location is very private and peaceful. After a day of hiking and sightseeing it felt like coming home each evening. We would definitely book again with Bendigo and Jenni on our future trips to MDI.

this place is immaculate... very open floor plan in a spacious and beautiful setting. the trees surround the home making it feel very remote and peaceful. has everything you need for a long term stay. great host as well, very responsive and attentive

LOVED this place!! Clean, that’s a dealbreaker, and it was clean! Situated on 8 acres, peaceful, dog-friendly, cozy, just felt like home. Loved the bottle of wine and chocolates, that’s the way to a girls heart, after a clean place ofc. There were tissues in the bathroom, stocked kitchen, w &d, great lighting. There was this quilt and rug in the master bedroom that looked like I was sleeping at grandmas house. We had to drive everywhere, as this was not a walking rental, but totally worth it. Felt like the heart of Acadia. You have to drive to all the trails anyway. Would totally stay here again.

Sol’s place was peaceful and private, but still only eight minutes to the restaurants, coffee shops, and stores in Southwest Harbor. It’s also conveniently located to the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and many trails. Sol’s place was very cozy on cold days, and the water was very hot! I cooked most of my meals at the house, and had all of the basics I needed. Sol was very thoughtful and quick to respond, and even left the porch light on for me when he found out that I would get in late. As a woman traveling alone, I felt perfectly safe and comfortable at Sol’s place. Highly recommend, if you’re looking to stay on the quieter side of the island, which I personally think is a better experience.

What an amazing place! Caroline’s home was perfect for our family vacation. It had everything we needed and more. It’s on the quiet side of the island and an easy drive to all the great attractions. This home is a great place to gather family and just be together. Thank you for sharing your space with us Caroline. 10/10 would recommend a stay here.

Comfortable and cozy! We really enjoyed our time at “the pink house”. It was an excellent home base for us while we explored the island, and we felt so lucky that our dog could join us on the trip. Thank you for the pet friendly accommodation!

This house was amazing—hosts really have thought of everything when it comes to guest experience! Kayaking out to the tiny islands in the bay a couple times allowed us to see horseshoe crabs and bald eagles up close. The fire pit was great and the “s’mores station” with supplies in the kitchen upon arrival was so cute and thoughtful. Our three kids loved this place and didn’t want to leave at the end of the week. Our boys especially loved the lower level game room with ping-pong, arcade games, and pop-a-shot. The kids also loved reading on the sofa in the upstairs loft overlooking the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked dinner there a couple times during the week. The hosts gave great local recommendations as well—the craft beer at Fogtown Brewing in Ellsworth (less than 15-min. drive) is excellent, and it is very kid-friendly with a large outdoor eating area and wood-fired pizza. We’d love to return to this house! Mosquitoes are fierce so bring bug repellent.

Tamarack was a lovely private cottage near Southwest Harbor and close to everything we wanted to do in Acadia! We enjoyed staying on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and Tamarack was a cozy respite after a long day of hiking. The added bonus of a beautiful sunrise out of our window each morning was very serene! The cottage was new and very clean with all of the amenities you could ask for. There was not much to walk to however it is only about 5 minutes into Southwest Harbor which had a number of good restaurants ( although many close after the 3rd week in October) and close to a tiny but well stocked grocery store. We enjoyed cooking out on the gas grill and exploring local restaurants. Our host was very accommodating and communicative! We will be back next fall!!!

Catherine’s home is bright and airy—a true respite from the hustle and bustle of the world. The kitchen, laundry, and amenities are so well-stocked and carefully organized that you don’t need to worry about the little things; she’s truly thought of everything. It allows you to relax fully and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Catherine also provided a thoughtful list of great trails, local eateries, and the best spots to buy produce, which made settling in even easier.
