  • Perfect little place to stay in a lovely village. We only stopped for a night on our way back home down south, but would have happily stayed longer to explore the area! The cottage has everything you could need. We especially liked that it was just two doors down from the lovely village pub, which served good beers and was very dog friendly. Thank you!

  • Second stay at this little cottage. We stopped over here both on our way up, and returning from a holiday on Skye to give our 2 dogs a break in the journey. Lovely location with easy access to motorway links at Stirling. Followed hosts instruction and had a nice 45 min stroll with the dogs around the vicinity of the village. Handy pub and shop on your doorstep. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, and with helpful breakfast supplies and milk provided. Great communication with host June at all times. Highly recommended

The Stables is set in the grounds of Corshill Cottage which has extensive garden grounds. It has outdoor seating and car parking. The apartment is ideal open plan living for couples or young families. The bedroom area is in a galleried area (open on one side) above the open plan living area. A mile from Thornhill and only 10 minutes drive to either Stirling or Callander. A car is recommended.
  • Lovely cosy apartment with great kitchen, easy parking, close to Stirling and the Trossachs walks and Lochs. Nice bath to use if feeling like a soak (with hand-held shower over the bath only). Stairs to bedroom in loft, with bathroom/toilet downstairs, so not good for some people. Some traffic noise in the bedrooom, but not too bad. Carolyn attended quickly to a small problem that arose with the apartment. Generally a good place to stay.

  • Cute, warm place close to great walks in the national park. Great place to stay and relax for a few days

  • Very quiet and ideal for a relaxing weekend. The cottage looks much better than it does in the photos and it also has a nice garden at the back. A bit tricky to get the property at first as you focus on the road but once you’ve spot it , you can’t miss it the second time. I totally recommend the place for a quiet and relaxing getaway!

  • Lovely stay at The Gargunnock Inn in a charming village!! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was adequate for our party of seven...5 adults, 2 teenagers. Two of the rooms are a bit cramped with luggage but it was manageable. There are a couple of flights of stairs inside the apartment..FYI with lots of luggage or folks with reduced mobility. Hosts were responsive to questions etc. easy check in and out. The restaurant/pub were fantastic...had a wonderful Sunday supper. The staff was beyond friendly. Visit the village store across the street...Alistair and Violet are the best. Charming village. Parking was easy. Would return again and again.

A beautiful private wing in a charming old Schoolhouse built in 1857. Bright and airy apartment surrounded by Farmland, easily accessible from the main road. We are minutes from Blairdrummond Safari Park, and Doune Castle - film set for Outlander. Our central location on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, makes this an ideal resting place to adventure from. Given the governments recent announcement I will be offering a dining in service free of charge in March and April
Aside from offering lots of natural light and peace and quiet, the apartment also offers exclusive use of the breakfast room ( with a breakfast bar) bathroom, bedroom, and outside eating area. There is an electric shower, king size bed, coffee/tea making facilities and reasonable size fridge. We do not have a kitchen, however there is a reasonably sized fridge and we can easily pop a microwave in for you.
We are in a very quiet area surrounded by farmland. We are a 45 minute drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and a 15 minute drive to Callander. We have lots of lovely pubs and restaurants around, and within walking distance of the Smiddy Farm shop and cafe.

  • Catriona's place is exactly as described, really cute and perfect for a relaxing night or few away from day-to-day life. Catriona was really responsive and provides lots of helpful info about the local area. We stayed during February so the apartment was quite cold - not a problem just make sure to pack a big jumper!

    Rebecca2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A charming place to stay, with lovely touches (banana bread) to make it extra welcoming. Well positioned for walks around Loch Lomond (we did Ben A'an - 30mins away) and for dinner in Dunblane or Bridge of Allan. Check in was very easy and Cat was great at responding to queries. Would highly recommend.

  • Warm, cosy, clean and very comfortable with thoughtful extras provided. This little cottage is just a delight and we loved that there was a vase of flowers on the table, home grown apples, coffee plunger if anyone needed it and much appreciated bottle of milk in the fridge. Plus sweet treats. The beds were comfy and the area so quiet. We enjoyed our tour around the garden and meeting the chickens and lovely dog. Like being on a very small farm really. Dave and Dorrit are delightful people and definitely deserve their reputation as Superhosts. Highly recommended.

**NEW FOR 2019** Unique 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom stone Barn conversion located within the ancient Touch Estate with views to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park . The estate, with its wild moor and waterfalls, is now a popular location for the filming of the Award Winning ‘Outlander’ drama series . Located in the midst of Braveheart country, littered with the debris of past feuds and battles, Ailsa Barn was originally the site of a croft dating back to 1720 and rebuilt over the years until it evolved into a traditional Scottish farmhouse and stone barn around a sheltered courtyard. The barn now sits in an acre of private garden with a stream and direct access to the moor beyond. Set into the hillside for protection from the wind, the original, barn , dating from 1840 ,was converted in 2018 using traditional building techniques and locally quarried stone. It is set high on the hill side in a quiet location retaining privacy even though adjacent to the farmhouse nearby. Ailsa Barn is only 5 miles from Stirling however feels wonderfully remote. Access is up a steep hill which can require four wheel drive, even in the summer. Part of the adventure is the road up to the Barn. Driving though Redhall Farm Yard ( drive slowly mind as there are children and chickens roaming freely!) you will see Ailsa Barn at the top of the hill. Engage that first gear and climb up the track where the breathtaking views , and the barn of course, await you. Due to its ‘off grid’ feel Wi-fi is not available though the 4G signal is easily reached. Television reception can be affected by weather conditions too; there’s a DVD player and some films or, of course, sit back and take in the spectacular views during the day or the stars at night !
Views from the living room are exceptional and stretch uninterrupted from Ben Lomond in the west , across The Carse of Stirling to Stirling Castle due east taking in the high peaks to the north of 3 Munros ; Ben Lomond, Stuc a' Chroin, and Ben Vorlich as well as the slightly lower peaks of Ben Venue and Ben Ledi. Sunsets are second to none and the colours of the mountains and sky change continually. Facilities Upstairs is a huge open plan living room with a Jotul log burner and TV . However, there is no reason to watch the TV as you will be kept mesmerised with the phenomenal views from the floor to ceiling feature window . The constantly changing light and sky provide the perfect backdrop to sit with a glass of wine , relaxing and waiting on the sun to set. Within the open plan living area , there is a generous seating and dining space for 8 and the integral kitchen is fully fitted with two fridges, an induction hob, electric oven, microwave and a dishwasher. There is an additional toilet on this floor and a further area for relaxing and reading with views towards Stirling Castle. On the ground floor the entrance leads to a utility/boot room with washing machine leading to three double bedrooms and two shower rooms. The south bedroom has a king size bed, an ensuite shower and a patio door to the courtyard with views across The Carse to Stirling Castle. The middle bedroom has a two single beds arranged as a day bed and a pull out bed, again with a patio door to the courtyard and Castle views. The north bedroom has views to the mountains and a king size zip and link bed offering the option of two single beds. A secluded, sheltered sunny courtyard offers outside dining space with BBQ facilities for you to relax and unwind after a hard day’s sightseeing. We have wildlife in abundance – pheasants, deer, red kite and horses all on the doorstep. It’s just a 10 minute drive to the Trossachs National Park with the Lake of Menteith Hotel, where fly fishing can be done and Loch Lomond and the rugged west coast beyond where you can take in the views of Scotland’s most exceptional scenery and mountain ranges. The estate, with its wild moor and waterfalls, is now a popular location for filming Outlander. Doune Castle (filming location for Outlander and Monty Python), the Wallace Monument, Old Stirling Bridge, Battle of Bannockburn Experience, the award winning Engine Shed, Blairdrummond Safari Park, the Church of the Holy Rude, Deanston Distillery (The Angel’s Share) and the Argaty Red Kite bird of prey display are all within 5 miles of the Barn. The Lake of Menteith is 6 miles away and is the historic centre for curling. Hence the name Ailsa Barn referring to the Ailsa Craig island from which the rock for curling stones is quarried. Curling is now held in Stirling. Old maps of the area and in particular the new Historic Scotland facility at the aforementioned Engine Shed with its augmented reality coverage of Scotland is invaluable. There are many books and maps at Ailsa Barn giving the history of the area and suggestions for exploring the wealth of important historic sites in the area. Of particular interest is the adjacent ruined croft. The Carse of Stirling was under sea water up to 1700. Draining the carse revealed fertile soil and several landowners encouraged a scheme for workers to clear six yards deep of river silt over an area of 60 square miles in exchange for the tenancy of nearby land and the right to build accommodation. One of these is the ruined croft dating from 1720 now at the centre of the group of two dwellings known as Upper Redhall and Ailsa Barn. It is visible to the left of the parking spaces in front of the Barn. The wall of the ruined croft now gives privacy between Upper Redhall and Ailsa Barn. An unmade road leads from the barn parking area directly to the moor beyond. This is gated and used daily to tend to cattle and horses so please avoid blocking this with your cars.
Ailsa Barn is in an ideal location to explore the local area, one which combines both outstanding natural beauty with a unique local history. Within a short driving distance you will also be able to sample Scotland’s magnificent Highland scenery and hospitality before returning home to the comfort of your accommodation. Stirling and the surrounding area are steeped in history. The historic Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and Battle of Sherriffmuir in 1715 all helped to shape the history of Scotland and these sites can easily be visited from our properties. Allow yourself to become absorbed by the atmosphere, whilst visiting the magnificent Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and The Battle of Bannockburn Experience, and then recharge your batteries in one of the many cafés, restaurants or pubs. The surrounding countryside is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts: walking, cycling and paragliding are all on offer on the nearby Ochil Hills. Slightly further away are The Trossachs, Callander, Loch Lomond National Park, Glasgow and Edinburgh providing, therefore, the ideal central touring base for your holiday. Located within an hour's drive of Glasgow and Edinburgh International airports, Stirling has excellent motorway connections to the north and south. Golf being available at every turn: Kings Park's course is a only a 10 min drive from the property and at least another five within 30 minutes drive. Slightly further afield are the world famous Gleneagles and St Andrew's Old Course. Ailsa Barn is perfectly located for you to make the most of your holiday and sample some of the highlights the area has to offer.
  • We stayed at Ailsa Barn while we explored the Callendar/Stirling/Falkirk area. The barn is perched on the hillside with a long grand view of the fields and Trossachs in the distance. Comfy chairs to sit in by the picture window to enjoy the view. We enjoyed the large kitchen space and multiple bedrooms/bathrooms which were all modern in like-new condition. Stirling Self Catering provided detailed directions to the barn, and all their correspondence with me was very prompt. It's a lovely place to stay in the area!

  • For a first time visitor to Scotland, this property met and exceeded every expectation. It's exactly what you would imagine a stay in the Scottish countryside would be. The pictures don't do it justice, you must see it in person...be warned, the view from the grand window overlooking the adjacent farm and valley beyond will likely bring one to tears. The small pasture in the back gives you a great view of Stirling Castle and Wallace Monument on a clear day. The front courtyard would be perfect for an outdoor meal/picnic. Location was perfect, we were able to visit all the popular attractions (Loch Lomond, Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh, etc) with ease from our base of operations at Ailsa Barn. Note, catching the train from Stirling Station to Edinburgh Waverly Station was a recommendation we would gladly pass on...it easy and convenient. Nearby Stirling has all the amenities you need to stock up on supplies, delivery is even an option to the barn. Accommodations at the barn were great, it is well stocked and has got everything you need (minus the internet of course...this was one of the reasons chose this property). If you have to be connected to the outside world, mobile phone service works perfectly fine and TV service has more than enough channels available. Quite frankly, this is where you want to go to disconnect oneself from the world. Hope to make more visits to this property in the future, this last stay was magical.

  • The barn is beautifully renovated with all necessary amenities, but more importantly it has a stunning view from it location on the hillside through a wide modern window. The neighbouring house is close, but you have full privacy in the barn and the garden. The road is not close, but its noise can be heard outside but not inside barn. The communication with Stirling Self Catering was easy and helpful. Ailsa Barn has my highest recommendations for anyone wanting to explore the countryside of Scotland with a convenient distance to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. If you are a family without a car I do not recommend renting bikes since the main road is very narrow with fast traffic and not suitable for biking (I am Danish and perhaps a bit spoiled in regards to bike lanes), but me and my family had a pleasant use of a local taxi company called Riverside. They drove us back and forth to Stirling, Balmaha at the Loch Lomond and to the Edinburgh Airport. Gargunnock is only a 30 min walk away and it has a small grocery store and a great pub. I could definitely consider renting this place again in the future.

  • We loved our stay at the Bothy. Michaela was really friendly and left some lovely essential breakfast items for us. The place is decorated with a really homely feel and we had a cosy night in away from the wind and rain with the wood burner going. Great feeling of being in the middle of nowhere but still close to lots of amenities in nearby towns.

This well appointed self catering accommodation can sleep upto 6. Right at the heart of a working family farm, but only 7 miles from Stirling you get the best of both worlds - a rural retreat, lovely views, great walking, but easy to explore beyond
Housed within an A listed 18th Century Steading, at the heart of a beautiful working family farm Old Leckie Farmstay is great base for a holiday. The Steading looks over the historic 16 C Old Leckie house and it is hard not to get caught up in the romanticism of this historic landscape.
Old Leckie is a really special place. it is not just a farm. Its not just the beautiful location. Maybe its the feeling of tramping the same ground that Bonnie Prince Charlie did when he visited, or just the feeling that you are re-discovering childhood as you explore secret steps and ancient bridges... come and feel it for yourself...
  • Alison and Fergus have a lovely, peaceful place to stay right in the heart of their farm. They are wonderful hosts who are easy to get in touch with when booking and warm and welcoming when you arrive. If you are interested they are happy to arrange a time in their busy days to show you around the farm. Being able to buy some of the farm's delicious produce direct was fantastic. There are lovely walks to take on the farm and in the surrounding areas. We would love to stay here again and would recommend Old Leckie to anyone.

    Jodi2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just enjoyed six days at Old Leckie Farm and to put it frankly it simply wasn’t enough! On arrival, we were met with fresh bread, butter, and wine! The accommodation was clean and very cosy with more than ample space for six guests! The kids had an absolute blast exploring the farm, patting the puppies, and collecting the eggs! Alison was a wonderful host, going above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing stay! We had planned to explore far and wide but found everything from castles to distilleries and cheap eats to stunning natural scenery all within a stones throw of the cottage! We will absolutely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later!

    Melannie2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Old Leckie Farm was charming in all aspects and our stay was lovely! We were greeted with fresh eggs, bread and butter and dry wood for the fireplace. The home was very clean and had enough towels and bedding for everyone. Alison greeted us after arrival and she was so kind and helpful in giving us local travel tips. We had a fire and it was a perfect way to end a cold and wet Scottish day. We were thrilled to wake up to sheep outside the big picture window. Allison showed us around the farm in the morning and it was beyond impressive. Our favorite part was meeting Flopsie, their pet sheep! 5 stars for Alison and Fergus and Old Leckie Farm!

  • Lovely accommodation, which was very clean, spacious and warm. Excellent location for seeing all that the Stirling area has to offer with excellent road links to all areas. I wish we had been able to spend more time walking in the beautiful surroundings.

  • Beautiful situation, in an updated cottage. Full of character. Lovely local walks. Great hostess. Wished we had more days to relax, and enjoy the quiet. Next time!

  • While in Scotland and northern England we stayed in a total of 13 accomodations with 10 being self catering. Alison's property was right at the top and we would definitely stay there again. The steading completely exceeded our expectations and Alison and her husband Fergus were wonderful hosts.

    Teressa2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the Old Leckie Farm. Accommodations were clean and pretty. The farm is amazing. Loved the cows, chickens, sheep, and fresh lettuce. We even purchased some of their amazing meats and eggs to take with us. Couldn’t have asked for a nicer owner, Alison and her family were so kind and thoughtful.

    Lesley2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Such a magical place! We didnt want to leave but after 4 nights we needed to move on. Everything was perfect from the weather, the accommodations, hosts and farm animals. We loved being able to herd sheep and my daughters loved to be able to pick up the chickens (to put them back). We felt very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the bread upon arrival and the eggs were fantastic! The grounds are absolutely beautiful with lots of walks to do on site (one of my daughters left gifts for the faeries around the property) Everything about this place was beyond expectations. Would love to come again :) (we couldn't find the recycling bins in the stable..sorry for leaving on the counter!!)

This is a traditional Scottish Bothy that dates from early 1700's.It is a self contained "wee house" that has been modernised. 1 double bed 1 sofa bed with shower/wc. No cooking facilities but tea /coffee provided. Breakfast provided by arrangement at a small additional charge.
Built around 1700 as a Drovers Bothy it has been refurbished and retains the upstairs loft which houses a double bed downstairs we have a double sofa bed. It is the only original Bothy of its type in the village and offers an insight as to how what living was like in the days of Outlander! Although there are a few more home comforts on offer now!
Kippen is a small village just 9 miles from Stirling and 12 miles from Loch Lomond with stunning views of the Trossachs. It is a fantastic location for walkers as well for mountain biking and road cycling. There is quality fishing nearby at the Lake of Menteith where the World Championships were held a few years back. Until the 1960's it was the home of the largest grapevine in the world! Kippen is currently listed in the Sunday Times top 20 villages in the UK to live... so you might want to stay! Kippen is blessed with two stunning award winning pub restaurants (URL HIDDEN) and the (URL HIDDEN) We have a hairdresser, post office / genral store/ butcher and deli/ coffee bar in the village. We also have craft brewery based at the old railway station called the Fallen Brewery.
  • This Bothy was our first (great) experience using BnB and a good start of our road trip. Everything was clean and Paul was there to welcome us. There was a nice little Pub in town as well.

  • Absolute gorgeous hidden gem. If you're looking for a beautiful retreat in a tiny wee bothy, this will do the trick!

    Jo2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy Bothy in a friendly village with two splendid pubs. what else do you need. Myself and my brother had a brief stop over enroute from Skye to Edinburgh and had some fine local ale and loch lomond whisky at the cross keys pub. practically -all was as listed - Comfy bed and comfy sofa bed with nice bedlinen. the bed in the roof space has restricted height but is very cosy. There are no cooking facilities but a kettle and a fridge. and you can get a traditional breakfast with the hosts to sort you out for the day ahead and then supper in the village.(we did neither as we were off early in the morning so cannot give any review on that.) Be sure to read the directions to the Bothy as down a lane off one of the main roads and it is easier getting there in the daylight. (I didn't and then couldn't get a signal for contact details so just had to go to the shop and ask in there. ) The shop and the two pubs are nearby and the shop stays open till 7pm . There is no real signal downstairs in the Bothy but there is up the stairs where the bed is. & no tv but board games and books to read. .. a good spot for exploring the area.

    Elise2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little house very close to the centre of the village. Paul was great and on hand to help, lots of guides and maps in the house for local walks and opening times for the pubs and cafe. Would definitely recommend.

  • I can highly recommend a stay at Michael’s place in Doune. The house is lovely - an example of Thomas MacLaren architecture built in 1894 - so it is really wonderful staying in this piece of history. The house is very warm and comfortable with two fires aswell as central heating. The rooms and beds are comfy, with a lovely bathroom upstairs. The house is right in the centre of Doune so very close to all amenities. Some great walks around Doune Castle and the River Teith as well as through Doune Ponds into the woods beyond make this home very well positioned. Many thanks Michael for a great stay.

  • Amazing value! This little cottage is so much more than what I expected, it is everything you want when you go on a holiday to Scotland: it has character, charisma, space, beauty… Communication with Michael went flawlessly, he is really friendly, helpful and an amazing host. The little cottage has an amazing garden that you can sit in and enjoy the sunset. Doune is a quiet, peaceful, historic village, perfectly situated for travelling, walking, relaxing… Wi-Fi worked perfectly. If you are someone that are easily stressed in your day to day life, I recommend you take a bath and become completely relaxed! In the area you have the Red Lion Inn, a local pub were you can eat breakfast or lunch/dinner and of course the famous Doune Castle (Outlander, Monty Python & Game Of Thrones). A bright and spacious single storey dwelling in Central Scotland. By car we are 15 mins NW of Stirling, 1 hr to Edinburgh, 50 mins to Glasgow & 2 hrs to Oban and ferries to the Western Isles. There is no bus route nearby and the nearest train station is 15 mins away. Please note...THERE ARE NO COOKING FACILITIES - but there is a small microwave. Cost of staying at the Old Piggery is £50 for the 1st person and £35 per person thereafter.
The Old Piggery is comfortable and warm with views from the sitting room to the south.
There are pubs and places to eat in nearby villages (3 miles away). We are in a rural postion with no immediate access to public transport. The house is accessible by a bumpy farm track, but it is worth the effort. It is surrounded by spectacular scenery.
  • Great place to stay-lovely spot in the countryside. Judy was very quick responding to messages and gave great information on how to get to the farm. The space was newly decorated and very spacious with great amenities. Would definitely recommend it for any length of stay.

  • We arrived in Stirling at midnight. After a quiet and dark way we drove in a very small village. As same as the picture I know this is the old house I reserved. When we opened the door unlocked and then turned on the light we three were happy and amazing together. So warm house ,so lovely house,so clean house. And the host prepared food for us. The bread were very soft and delicious and I found it was the best bread during this trip. The beds were so comfortable that we had very good sleep. In the morning when I got up when I opened the door,ah,the view is so beautiful. Then I hiked along the way though the village. The cow,the sheep ,everything was so nice. The most interesting thing is that the host knew the Chinese poet Xu zhimo. We recited his poetry together and we were so happy. I like the winter garden and I like the flowers and I pretend to work as a housewife here

    June2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • It is super comfortable and cosy! The house owners even provided us some breakfast which were not expected! The location is perfect! It’s in Stirling which is not far from 1) the William Wallace memorial monument (the movie braveheart), 2) Bannockburn which is the site of a famous battle between the English and the Scots, and 3) Lochearnhead where the Highland Games were held! So lots of places of interest that we could squeeze in!

  • Judy's place is perfectly nestled in the midst of farms, with some lovely views around it. The old piggery itself is very comfortable and a great place to set base while exploring the area. We only spent a day, but I'd love to be back very soon.

Nice double bedroom located at the front of the house, furnished with King-sized bed, bed-side tables and wall-mounted TV. Separate bathroom for guest use. Large kitchen and dining area which is available to heat food and make tea and coffee (tea and coffee provided). Fruit, cereal, bread/toast, butter and jam are provided for breakfast. You are free to make use of our living-room and our garden. Our aim is that you have a comfortable and relaxing stay with us.
We are located in Cauldhame on the edge of Kippen village near the Trossachs National Park. This is an excellent area for walking with several hills to climb, large, medium or small. The views are wonderful. The road through Kippen is popular with road cyclists and there are challenging routes from our doorstep for the more experienced cyclist. For those who prefer a more leisurely cycle there are quiet country lanes or woodland trails not too far away. Stirling is 10 miles away, Edinburgh 48 miles and Glasgow 38 miles, making this an ideal base from which to explore these great cities. Loch Lomond is 20 miles away and a 45 minute walk up Conic Hill in Balmaha offers amazing views across this beautiful loch and the surrounding countryside. Many of our guests find us the ideal stopover on their way to/from Fort William (2 hours drive) or the Isle of Skye (4 - 5 hours drive). There are regular sailings throughout the year on Loch Katrine (27 miles/50 minutes drive), where you have the option of sailing in one direction and cycling in the other along the shores of the Loch (bicycles can be hired at Loch Katrine). Other attractions in the area are Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, the Battle of Bannockburn Heritage Centre, Doune Castle (10 minutes drive), Go Ape outdoor adventure centre (Aberfoyle - 40 minutes drive), Blair Drummond Safari Park (10 minutes drive) or one of the local distilleries. In Kippen we have two good local pubs (10 minute walk), which provide a friendly welcome and serve local craft ales and great food (last orders for food 8.45pm). There are also pubs serving food in Gargunnock (5 miles drive) and Fintry (15 minutes drive). A local food store (with post office) and cafe are also available in Kippen during the day. Whether you are a cyclist, a walker or exploring Scotland by car, we will offer you a warm and comfortable welcome.
We love walking and cycling and our location is perfect for both. The area is popular with road cyclists who enjoy the mixture of hills and long flat stretches, interspersed with great cafes along the way. We are close to Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow and well placed to take full advantage of all that these great cities and their surrounding areas have to offer.
  • Room in a lovely modern house with a nice lawn, continental breakfast adjusted to your individual preferences (loved the berries and locally resourced eggs), very friendly hosts ready to provide as much info on the area as you need. Free parking outside the house.

We went on a long weekend and we experienced lot of delays and reached late in the night, they understood and were accommodating. • Really spacious, cosy and really clean with comfortable beds. We loved our stay and would highly recommend the Shepherds Hut!

    laurianne2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed here for a celebratory weekend for our 1st wedding anniversary and my 30th birthday and we had an amazing time. The hut is full of character and we immediately felt at home. Check-in was nice and easy and flexible as to when we arrived. The hut is bigger inside than you'd think and has everything you could need for a relaxing stay. There is even a TV, wifi and a dishwasher! The view from the windows was beautiful with all the autumn colours and a great way to start the day. The wood burner was easy to use and heated the main living space really well. If you don't want to deal with fire then there is also a little electric heater. Location wise it is so peaceful and feels like the middle of nowhere even though there is a bus route right at the end of the track. Only 10/15 mins drive to Stirling and even less to Blairdrummond Safari park which we had a great day out at. There is a short walk from the parking area (across a slightly muddy field) to get to the hut and then a few steps to get up inside. I use a walking stick but still managed without issue so not a negative, just something to be aware of. Liz and Hector were very helpful providing information before we arrived and quick to answer when we had a small issue with the wifi. Overall, the hut is a wonderful place to stay if you want somewhere quirky but without losing home comforts. Will definitely be recommending to friends and if we are ever in the area in future then we'd love to stay in the hut again.

Close to lots of activities and great tips and suggestions given by hosts!

  • Beautiful hut in a wonderful location. Perfect couples retreat!

    Sarah2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very stylish interior, great hot water and water pressure for a rural location. It is actually and good sized space, bigger than the pictures suggest. Sat in some of the most stunning scenery the world has to offer and stones throw away from multiple lochs!

    Douglas2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay in the hut. It was bigger than we had imagined and beautifully furnished with everything we needed for a cosy and comfortable stay. The location is idyllic with plenty of local attractions close by. We enjoyed stargazing evenings sitting out front. We would love to come back in the winter so we can make use of the wood burning stove!

    Julie2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Liz and Hector created a beautiful space. The home is smartly designed, stylishly decorated, and fresh and clean. The views and surrounding area are remarkably beautiful. The area has so much to offer, which I wish we would have realized prior to our stay. Liz provides directions to local walks, sights, and restaurants. The photos and listing are accurate and the setting is even more lovely.

  • We had a great stay at Karen's place. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. There were even toys tucked away in a cabinet for our 1-and-a-half-year-old boy to play with. If we ever come back to the area, we would likely stay here again. The only negative is that there's not much to do within walking distance. You'll need to drive to Stirling.

Set amongst the roaming farmland of the Carse of Stirling, our garden suite benefits from a picturesque riverside location just a few miles from stirling city centre. The double room is cosy and comfortable and is an ideal base to explore the local area.
Surrounded by views of the Trossachs, Stirling Castle and The Wallace monument, our Garden Suite is a peaceful oasis of tranquility. The room is bright and airy with patio doors opening onto the garden.
Blairdrummond and the Carse is a lovely area to visit with beautiful hillside views in all directions - and some of the most incredible sunsets I've ever seen. If you are really lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis. Within a few miles we have Blairdrummond Safari Park and Briarlands farm and adventure barn for the young at heart, Dobbie Garden Centre for a spot of retail therapy, the recently opened Smiddy for tasty treats and eats, and Stirling Agricultural Market is always fun when the bull sales are on. Widely considered as the gateway to the Highlands we are on the edge of natures playground - hillwalking in the Trossachs, canoeing in the River forth, Go Ape at Aberfoyle, and world famous golfing at Gleneagles are all within 20 mins drive. Stirling is a fantastic place to base yourself for exploring further afield too - Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Kelpies at Falkirk are all under an hour away and easily accessible by car, bus or train.

Georgie was kind enough to allow us to use the washing machine and dryer which was a great help during our trip. We also enjoyed some interaction with the chickens and regular visits from Badger the dog! Highly recommended.

  • Had a really lovely stay here for one night with my 8 year old daughter after attending Doune the Rabbit Hole for the day. We were welcomed with coffee and invited to make ourselves at home. After putting Mia to bed I explored the gardens and read my book outside whilst watching deer bounding through the fields as the sun set over Ben Ledi in the distance. After a comfortable sleep we had breakfast (we brought our own) and Laura brought more coffee to enjoy as we all got ready and chatted about the day ahead. We were given a very warm welcome by host Laura into her wholesome family and home, a stunning house surrounded by beautiful gardens. Thank you.

The property is perfectly situated for walking, cycling or canoeing in the trossachs. Stirling is less than 20 minutes, Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh can be accessed in about an hour. Sustrans routes are easily accessible.
  • This cottage is superbly located to explore western highlands, trossachs and various lochs including loch lomond. Stirling is less than ten miles away and major centres like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth can be reached within an hour or so. There are nice waterfalls, farms, scenic spots and drive and pretty villages - all just a short drive away. We did the three loch drive, walked in the bog, spent an afternoon at daroch falls, drove till ben nevis, took land train to stirling castle... The cottage itself looks much better than the pictures and is surprisingly spacious and set in a quiet and very private spot in the village. It does not offer exotic views of scotland out of its windows, but considering its very reasonable pricing and strategic location it was great value for money. It is at one end of the village, so you can choose to step out for a walk into the countryside or into the village in a couple of minutes - offering the best of both worlds. Peter and Heather were generous and thoughtful hosts. Despite us talking two days to reach (due to various mishaps along the way) they were equally accommodating. I was worried that they were preparing their very generous welcome pack with fresh milk, bread, garden eggs and homemade lemon drizzle cake for us each day and must be getting disappointed on us not arriving. Their communication throughout was excellent and after an initial tour they retreated into background while sorting things out for us as and when we needed help. They even put our recycling in the right bins in middle of night when we got terribly confused about various colour coded bins in Stirling. Overall excellent hospitality. This cottage is excellent value for money and we had a terrific stay. We usually do not return to the same cottage in future but this one we definitely will as it left us wanting for more.

  • We can thoroughly recommend Heather and Peter as hosts in this beautiful holiday home. Attention to detail was second to none, it had absolutely everything we needed. The location for us was fantastic, close to Edinburgh and Glasgow with plenty to see in between. Heather left us a starter basket which was very much appreciated and her home baked lemon drizzle cake was amazing.

    Fran2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's place is a great place to stay and very comfortable. easy to get to the Trossachs and Callender

    Beryl2019-06-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great hosts, a lovely welcome with lots of useful tips and a generous 'welcome pack' of goodies, and a home that was clean, well supplied with amenities, superb shower and comfortable beds, plenty of space for five, all situated in a very convenient spot to explore the Trossachs and nearby towns/cities.

    Roger2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • outstanding hospitality, excellent welcome pack and the house and surrounding area is beautifull think lake district but without the crowds

    Sean2018-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Well stocked house with an excellent welcome.

    Timothy2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing property for family of 4 (2 boys aged 8 and 10). It had everything you could possibly think of for the perfect holiday. The personal touches by Heather and her family made us feel like vips from the attention to detail in the house to the extra services like bringing in the washing when it was raining when we were out for the day. Would recommend it to everyone looking for a home from home!

  • We had a great week in Thornhill. The bungalow is in a quiet spot set back from the road at the edge of the village. It is spacious and well equipped and had everything we needed for a family of five, with masses of storage space. The village shop is two minutes walk away. The location turned out to be very convenient, allowing us to visit relatives and also enjoy the wealth of interesting things to do close by. We walked out from Callander and Aberfoyle, took the boat trip to Inchmahome Priory on Lake Menteith and got a dose of medieval history at Doune Castle. Georgie (9) was delighted that we managed to get to Blair Drummond Safari Park - the Birds of Prey show was outstanding. These were all within easy reach of Thornhill and we didn't have to spend too much time driving about - which was a bonus, having driven up from Berkshire. Many thanks to our excellent hosts Peter and Heather for their friendly welcome and all the 'extra' touches - special mention must go to the giant home-made carrot cake which we all enjoyed! All the shops and amenities are within a five minute walk of the cottage. There is useful information at the library about things of local historical interest provided by leaflets, books and information displays. There are gorgeous forest walks on our doorstep which are popular with dog walkers and keep fit enthusiasts. Gillies Hill has many trails to explore as well as some historical points of interest.

  • A lovely, cottage with really nice sofas to relax into. Everything was very clean and the shower was great - really powerful! It felt welcoming and easy to just get on with enjoying our holiday. Plus, there were welcome biscuits...The location is perfect; the village is interesting with a well-stocked food store, and has forest walks five minutes away. We also found the walk into Stirling easy, and enjoyable, especially as there is a route that takes you though the beautiful park. We definitely recommend it.

  • Nothing short of PERFECTION. The cottage is absolutely adorable and charming (I loved the children’s book theme) with more space than you know what to do with. I loved the sun room and back courtyard area. The kitchen was spacious as well as a dining room and living room, two bedrooms, and a bath. The location was nice and quiet and only ten minutes from the city center. There were also some great tour books we used! We’re already planning our next trip to Stirling and I can’t imagine staying anywhere else. Thank you!

  • Catherine’s place offers, good, clean affordable accommodation and was perfect for our needs. Catherine, is a down to earth, friendly person who couldn’t do enough to be helpful- which in our case meant accommodating our daughter who came with us at last moment. We’d definitely stay again next time we are visiting friends in the area.

    Kai2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine was a lovely host! We enjoyed breakfast and plunger coffee very much. Very comfortable room, extremely comfy bed, great linen, and the coffee/hot choc/ tea machine right outside our room! Good location right in village, busy street for parking but we expected that! Note: Highland Hotel is not operating as a pub anymore, but there are 2 just down the road that have meals most days, and a supermarket around the corner. The local distillery is worth a visit also has bistro and really helpful, knowledgeable staff. Definitely do Doune Castle! Well worth it and a great audio tour.

Jill was a great host throughout and managed to arrange a taxi for us through a local contact of hers which took a lot of stress away for us considering we didn’t know the area at all. The property is ideally located in Kippen and within walking distance of both of the pubs and the local shop. I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

  • We lost a bit with the address in the browser .. But we arrived, a charming place with a rustic touch that we liked a lot, the bed in the mezzanine is a luxury, it is close to the lakes, Doune, Stirling and 30 minutes airport car .. It has all the amenities you need, and communication with the owner is good .. The only thing that could be improved to be perfect is the comfort of a sofa bed .. But you can not ask for everything ..

Kippen is a beautiful village in West Stirlingshire, just 9 miles from Stirling. It was recently voted in The Times as one of the 20 best villages to live in the UK. It lies between the Gargunnock and Fintry Hills and is a short drive (20mins) from the heart of Loch Lomond & the Trossachs. It is a great location as it is so close to many attractions. The Falkirk Wheel, Kelpies, Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, The Battle of Bannockburn, & Blair Drummond Safari park to name but a few!
The Coachhouse itself is in the most historic and in my view the prettiest part of the village. It dates back to the mid 1700's and captures a true piece of history. It retains its cobbled paving and has a real 'step back in time' ambiance. That said, this cosy cottage has itself been extensively upgraded to provide all home comforts.
You are in walking distance to the village's amenities. The local shop is a minute's walk away. The Cross Keys pub is also, a minute's walk away. The local pub has just been voted one of the top 15 gastro pubs in Scotland and I can fully recommend it! Just up from the pub we also have a wonderful deli, selling great cakes, coffee and a fantastic selection of wines. We are lucky to have many great eating establishments surrounding us, there are just too many to mention!
  • Great host, very happy with it.

    Kenneth2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy, well furnished 2 bedroomed house within couple minutes of 2 very nice pubs and a cafe/deli. Tracey is very helpful and easy to deal with.

  • Lovely cottage that was perfect for our holiday. It's comfortable and cosy with plenty of space. The location was ideal for us not only for Loch Lomond and the Trossachs but also Dundee and Helensburgh. Tracey was great at communicating with us and a super host. We would definitely stay again and can highly recommend this property.

    Nick2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful quaint cottage in historic village, we loved the location. Tracey was a great host. Close enough to lots of attractions.

    Carey-Anne2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Location of the cottage was ideal for what we wanted from our little break, close enough to lots of Scotland's attractions while being far enough away to enjoy peaceful nights in the lovely village of Kippen. The cottage itself was very clean and had great space for the three of us. Thoughtful touches such as the board games were a great touch and the little one loved them. Tracey herself we never got to meet but was fantastic and on hand to answer any questions we had.. would highly recommend

    James2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey and her place were fantastic. Kippen has really simple and quick access to Stirling with tons to do. Or, a bit farther to Glasgow or Edinburgh or many other things. Highly recommended and we will definitely stay again on our next visit!

    Andy2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice, cosy property with comfy beds and lovely bed linen. Loved the oldie world bathroom suite and solid wood floors. No complaints, would definitely stay again

    Paddy2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully presented cottage that's comfortable and cosy, with lots of style. The village is brilliantly located a short drive away from Stirling and within an hour or so of Edinburgh, Falkirk, St Andrews, Glasgow - lots of things to see and do practically on the doorstep! Tracey was quick to communicate and had lots of helpful tips on places to eat locally. The Gargunnock Inn was our favourite, and the village deli RhubarbLime is also excellent. Plenty of space inside the cottage, a well-equipped kitchen, nice hot shower and comfortable bedrooms. Plus there's a selection of board games and books for when the Scottish weather is a bit too dreich! An excellent base for exploring some of the best that Scotland has to offer.

We offer a gorgeous and neatly presented one bedroom modern maisonette apartment. Our maisonette is equipped with everything you need if you are on holiday or business. We are situated six miles west of Stirling. Surrounded by fertile countryside known as Blair Drummond. Our central location on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park makes us popular with guests.
Our modern maisonette is bright and airy with views from the double doors towards farmland and the village of Gargunnock and the Kippen hills. Our guests always enthuse about our views - you cannot miss them! Farmland surrounds our property and we are easily accessible from the main road. Our maisonette is well appointed with everything you should need during your time away from home. Guests have full control over the heating in the maisonette and there’s a ceiling fan if it gets too hot during the summer months! The large en-suite bathroom and large walk in wardrobe adjoins the large bedroom. There is plenty of storage room for suitcases, golf bags etc. The open plan kitchen and lounge area has everything you should need. The kitchen has a full cooker (hob, oven and grill), microwave, fridge and washing machine. The lounge area has comfortable sofas looking out to countryside and there is a TV/DVD player with an extensive library of DVD’s to choose from. One of the sofas is a sofa bed which can sleep two people but is probably best for children. We can supply a travel cot for babies and baby 'toys' are available on request. Wifi can be accessed throughout the maisonette. We have ample private car parking available in our yard. If you have road/mountain bikes then we can put them in our lockable sheds overnight. Guests have use of an outdoor seating area. Perfect for watching the sunset and the many birds and other wildlife which visit our garden.
Our house is so called ‘The Orchard’ as it was once part of a castle and our grounds were the orchard to the castle. • Stayed two nights to get some peace and quiet at the end of my trip to Scotland with a toddler. Great little unit - had everything that we needed. Location was handy for the safari park, Stirling and exploring Loch Lomond / Trossachs. Gillian was an attentive host and very helpful.

  • We recently spent 4 nights at the maisonette and our stay was great! It was clean and very well equipped. We found it a relaxing place to unwind after a day spent site seeing. This is a perfect spot for travels to various locations. We enjoyed the personal touches and the welcome from Gillian soon after our arrival. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Sometimes you uncover a hidden gem and in this case ....wow. I was a bit worried that we would feel isolated in this country setting but it was so perfectly situated within short drives to all the locations we wanted to visit. Such a peaceful place and the home was so fully stocked with every convenience we had in our own home. Fantastic. The hosts were welcoming and always available to answer any questions and we even managed to do a much needed laundry. Spotlessly clean and the kitchen had every appliance we wanted for self catering. I am a travel agent and would rate this as a five star accommodation for comfort and for value. HIGHLY recommend and thanks Gilian for the privilege of sharing your environment Jeff and Jackie Toronto Canada
