Places to stay in Point Arena
Windy Hollow Farm is an off-the-grid farmstead on the Mendocino Coast. Staying on the farm offers a glimpse into farmstead living and a chance to disconnect. We have 2 small hand-built sleeping cabins. The cabins are simple, cozy & rustic with woodstoves, outhouses, and a shared kitchenette and outdoor shower.
Camping cabins available on a 20-acre organic farmstead and educational farm. Our two sleeping cabins and kitchen cabin are hand-built with simple amenities. All of the farm is off the grid with solar power. The cabins have outdoor composting toilets. An enclosed outdoor shower with hot water is located a short walk from the cabins, near the main house. The shared kitchenette is equipped with basic cookware, a cookstove and mini-refrigerator. (Please note: the kitchen cabin does not have heat and can be a bit chilly in the winter.) Wood stoves warm the cabins and firewood is provided. The yellow cabin has a queen size bed downstairs as well as a full-size folding futon mattress in the sleeping loft accessed via a folding attic ladder. Families with small children should note that the cabins are next to a small pond. The cabins are small and best suited for individuals, couples, or families with young children. Groups of 3+ adults (depending on sleeping arrangements), or families with older children, might want to consider renting both cabins. Reserve the red cabin through the Windy Hollow Red Camping Cabin listing. Both sleeping cabins and the kitchen cabin are located in close proximity to one another. Guest parking is located approximately 300' from the cabins; a marked trail leads directly to the cabins and a wagon is available for schlepping stuff.
Windy Hollow Farm is less than a mile from Main Street in Point Arena. We are near the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, Point Arena Lighthouse, the Arena Cove and numerous beaches.
  • Such a beautiful and inviting place! So many thoughtful touches in a gorgeous setting. Thank you so much for your graciousness.

  • Another night in the yellow cabin well spent... can’t ask for anything more than to play scrabble by fire light and fall asleep to the sounds of a frog chorus!

  • Very nice getaway spot if you want to unplug. Some very nice walks along the coast. Be sure to check out the amazing starry sky.

  • Great place to stay, extremely comfortable, spacious, cosy beds and very nice town that is close by. Excellent for families, space upstairs is for children 5 and older for sleeping (my opinion). My two girls (2, 8) loved it and so did I! Highest recommendations.

    Eva2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful, peaceful and natureful stay in a lovely cabin. Thoughtful conversation with host. Inspiring way of living off the grid. Thank you!

  • The beauty of the place being in nature also makes it difficult to find.

  • Absolutely lovely people, place and area. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our cozy cabin and all the amenities shared around it. It felt like an extra vacation on top of our road trip. Would highly recommend it! Cool people cool place.

    Point Arena, CA, United States

Sunny private room & bath, in artist's home/gallery on the Mendocino coast. Queen bed, seating area, dresser, closet, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave. Front yard "living room," super short walk to downtown Point Arena. Walkable to ocean hikes! PLEASE NOTE: On order of the State of California, Mendocino County and the City of Point Arena, my listing is unavailable through May 2020 due to to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a charming, often sun-drenched, comfortable room and bath located on the ground floor front of a house in the heart of Point Arena, one of California's tiniest incorporated cities. Located only 25 feet from Hwy. 1 (Main Street), the house and room are nonetheless very private, shielded by a cedar tree right in front of the Angelwing's east-facing picture window. Hwy. 1, which runs along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, is not only gorgeous, but civilized: traffic drops to nearly nothing after dark and this location is quiet at night. In the morning, though, you will hear traffic as the town wakes up. The Angelwing Room is convenient because nearly every amenity that PA has to offer is accessible on foot. You can drift out the front door and within minutes, get the best chocolate croissant from here to SF and a dark french roast, enjoy the hushed interior of a historic theater, have a nice glass of wine in a sophisticated atmosphere (at 215 Main, on the east side of the street) or - after a 3/4-mile walk to our cove - sit mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the immense Pacific Ocean. The house is Lauren's art studio and business headquarters, so either she or her son Adrian or ex-husband Lu will be available to give you directions, help, and advice. Lauren is the former Mayor of Point Arena and knows where you might want to go, what you might like to see, hear and do. Local beaches and ocean access points may interest you, or you may just want to get away. The Angelwing Room, in the heart of Point Arena, is a very good place to be far from the rest of the world; because of coastal fog, it can be like a modest, modern Avalon. The house itself is an old redwood structure dating from around 1900, remodeled in the sixties. It is funky, but full of creativity and (we hope) charm! We strive to keep the room spotlessly clean and the hall area neat; at the same time, it is an old house with some original decorative features. It has been home to Lauren and her (now grown) sons and many sleep-overs, gatherings of friends, political events, and late night working since she came to California in a school bus in 1999. She and her sons lived a year in that bus in the redwoods, then bought this magical place in 2000. It is very lived in, but the guest room is the most modernized part. A note about climate: the northern California coast is very cool and often damp. Bring warm clothes no matter what the season!
TINY CITY The neighborhood is unique in being an incorporated city, but so very small! It is one of California's five smallest cities. By necessity it is close-knit, if not always harmonious. Point Arena is old-fashioned in its lack of sprawl, yet almost everything you need is here, within one square mile! YOU ARE RIGHT ON HWY. 1 This is great, and even mostly quiet after dinner time, because of our remote location. Be aware though that people start getting to work around 6 to 8am, and you will hear this traffic. THE PACIFIC PLATE The notorious San Andreas Fault runs along the California coast, much of it off shore. But here, the fault carves a tiny chunk of land out of the Continental Plate and takes us into the huge Pacific Plate. The Fault goes out to sea 3 miles north of Point Arena, in the Stornetta Flats and again about 35 miles to the south. So Point Arena and the Angelwing Room are on the tectonic plate traveling slowly north while most of the rest of North America is heading south. It feels like a separate world out here, and geographically it is. Come experience it for yourself! COOL OCEAN AIR Please note also that the coast has much more moderate weather than even a few miles inland. When you are roasting in the summer, visit here - it will be 20 degrees cooler! When you are freezing in the winter, here it will be more mellow, cool, moist weather perfect for your skin.
  • Delightful!

    John2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's house is perfectly situated in Point Arena within easy walking distance of the tiny downtown area. Lauren is the perfect host, easily accessable but not intrusive. The room is spotlessly clean, eclecticly decorated and with Lauren's artwork on the walls. What's more, Lauren was so kind and helpful when I realized that I had left my camera bag (with camera and all my equipment) at home!! I definately intend to return!

    Richard2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great pleasure to meet Lauren, her son and their new puppy. Lauren has been extremely helpful and she anticipated all our needs. The room was great and super comfortable. Point Arena, Gualala and its surroundings are a superb spot to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of California. I would definitely recommend staying at Lauren’s as she has been a fantastic host during our trip. Very accommodating and responsive. And what an interesting woman! Very kind, very unique and interesting life.

    Ilias2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren was an excellent host and extremely accommodating. We had such a rejuvenating rest staying in the beautifully decorated and artistic Angel Wing. Bed was very cozy and the location couldn't be any better. Definitely a must for anyone driving through the Mendo coast.

    Cameron2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely room and very convenient to all Point Arena has to offer.

    Dianne2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I would really recommend staying here! I loved exploring around Point Arena and went on the most beautiful hikes nearby! Lauren had great ideas on things to do and her home is located in a really great area.

    Julia2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's room was comfortable and decorated from floor to ceiling with personal touches, though the space might be small if you're accustomed to spreading out. She was great at communicating with us and understanding when we couldn't provide an ETA as promised due to lack of cell signal on the coast. We'd love to stay again next time we're around Point Arena!

    Ashley2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is my 21st stay with Lauren. No further explanation or recommendation required. Always great.

Casita In The Redwoods - On the Coast! This beautiful guesthouse has a private garden setting. Come shoot hoops on our basketball court. We're a seven minute drive to Gualala Point Beach, where one can park and enjoy a scenic, short 15 minute or 30 minute walk to the beach. "Gualala" means "Where The River Meets The Ocean." We are minutes away from the Gualala River - kayaking, The Gualala Arts Center, The Sea Ranch Golf Links, the Gualala Township shops, galleries, restaurants, and services.
Casita sits in a quiet, private and natural Redwood tree setting. A deer may occasionally wander through the property to find apples and plums. One can also spot migrating birds taking a break from flight, and if not to be seen, they are more often heard. Hummingbirds are almost a daily sight in the garden. Through the summer, crickets will chirp away in unison.......and in the fall and winter the distant sound of frogs claim the trophy for their synchronized off beat melody!
In a natural setting, the property sits about an acre away from the street, on the West side......typically, a very quiet neighborhood.
  • Beautiful, comfortable space with gorgeous trees and nature surrounding it. The space was kept clean and we enjoyed it! Heads up, we had no service in the area, so you will likely only have WiFi connection once you get inside the place ( you may want to download the itinerary before heading there). But we highly recommend, absolutely a gem.

    Million2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • I almost want to keep my review of this place a secret! Efrain's Casita is extremely well set up, with everything you could need, all pristine and tasteful. He came out to greet us and see that we were all good for the night. We decided to book an overnight stay on a whim - and thankfully, this was a gem! Too bad we couldn't extend our stay this time, but we hope to return one day soon.

    Trish2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Just about five minutes out of Gualala's town center, the Casita in the Redwoods is a perfect getaway. In a wooded setting back from the road, the place is quiet and cozy. I appreciated Efrain's tips on scenic places to go in the area, and I also enjoyed just sitting in the casita's garden and knitting. The bed was very comfy and there was nothing I lacked. What a great find. Thank you, Efrain.

    Ginna2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was just as expected! There’s a great yard to have coffee and listen to the birds, and the space itself is both quiet and tucked away while also being accessible to all kinds of things. The house is just a few minutes driving to the town and the beach. It was cozy and clean, and had everything we needed. Efrain was also very responsive and made sure to check in with us via message when we arrived. Overall I think it’s an excellent value for the place and location, and would definitely go back!

    Kristina2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot nestled in the hills of Gualala.

    Edson2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very clean place. Efrain was very nice and hospitable.

    Amber2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful little home that you can enjoy the surrounding area from. Amazing value. Efrain is extremely hospitable and kind. I highly recommend him and his home.

    Aneesh2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Casita in the Redwoods! It is obvious how much care and thought Efrain puts into this space to make it so special. We had a blast cooking in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed almost all our meals on the beautiful patio amongst the redwoods and flowering magnolia and cherry blossom trees. Efrain was such a gracious host and made sure we felt right at home. We will definitely be returning to Efrain's casita.

    Gualala, CA, United States

Simple cabin deep in redwood forest, with screaming fast wi-fi. Clean with rudimentary facilities (no bathroom – just an outhouse adjacent). Hot water at sink for sponge bath, plus hot outdoor shower, totally exposed to forest and sky, as a backup. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Charming 250 sf wood cabin, with queen mattress in sleeping loft. Cabin is surrounded by several paths through forest acreage, alive in winter rains with matsutake, black morels, king boletes and chanterelle mushrooms. Cabin is 75 feet downhill from its own private driveway. The property is located near the end of a mountainous dirt road, on a coastal ridge, 3 hours north of San Francisco. CHAPTER 2: I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. – Thoreau Evoke your own narrative experience of Thoreau's 2 years spent in a cabin near Concord Mass. You may not be jumping into the cold Pacific Ocean, for example, but you're only spending 5 nights! You can practice the art of the mini sponge bath at the kitchen sink. There is excellent hot running water in the cabin. PLUS you will gain the practical knowledge of another charming throwback to Thoreau's era –an adjacent outhouse. Although there is no 21st century bathroom/toilet at the cabin, private outhouse has had minimal use over the years. Path to and from privy is floodlit. Cabin is electricity (surge protected) and features small cooking stovetop and propane heat. Architect designed steel counter tops and wood cabinets. Some creature comforts (down blanket and Corbusier chaise), along with writing table, chair, ink pen, manual typewriter, ream of paper and small lit library. The geographical area features many hillside and coastal hiking trails, an historic lighthouse, restored movie theater, French bakery, library, and fine dining. Wine tasting tour, 1 hour by car, in the Anderson Valley (still free). The cabin is available for stays of 3-5 nights and will be undergoing a few simple upgrades in late 2014/2015. Come visit while Thoreau's cabin remains in its simplest incarnation, bargain pricing.
Fresh air, quiet surrounds. Young redwood forest envelops this cabin and property. Isolated, safe, protected and located 1.2 miles down a dirt road.
  • Great space. Quiet in the woods and a short drive to the coast. Plenty of good reading in Randall’s library. Perfect for a nature getaway. I would go back!

  • This place is a hidden gem. It's a small cabin up in the woods and has everything you need for a weekend getaway. There's so many wonderful books to read and is the perfect place to cozy up and relax. It's only a 10-15 minute drive down to Point Arena area but still feels very much in the woods and secluded.

    Katie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous cabin in the woods! Thanks so much to Randall for an absolutely fabulous weekend away :)

    Alex2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great quiet getaway. Very peaceful and a lovely place for creative work.

    William2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I think the mark that any air bnb should strive to hit is making it so there guest never want to leave. This place nailed that for me. The bed in the loft gives you a sensation of sleeping in a tree house. The outdoor shower was the perfect way to rejuvenate the body after a long hike. The near by beaches provided plenty of beautiful coastal scenery. Can't wait to come back and get more writing done!

    Javier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Randall's cabin in the woods. The home is cozy, with many books to read. The cabin's heater worked wonderfully and kept me warm all night, even in February temperatures. I would highly advise against getting there after dark as it is very secluded and the map was a bit confusing but after finding it, it was a treat. A reminder that there is no bathroom, only an open outhouse but it did the job. Thanks Randall!

    Rebecca2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

  • We had a wonderful time ringing in the new year at your lovely well appointed property. The giraffes were especially magical. Thank you.

    Kelli2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A view of the giraffes from the hot tub. What's not to love?

    Holly2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cabins are great! If it’s in the winter it can get a bit chilly so bring cozy clothes but the tour of the animals is fun and worth doing. It is a great weekend stay!

    Savannah2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Dr Frank and Judy’s cabin was even better than I expected; the photos don’t do it justice. The place is beautiful inside and out. My son, husband, and I are all at or around 6 feet tall and the beds and seating area were definitely not made to our taller scale but the full-sized bed was very comfortable if tight and the four of us (including my under 6 foot daughter) made the seating area work comfortably for us. Definitely take the tour. The only sour note on the trip for us was the fact that the hot tub never went over “bath tub” temperature and was too cold to enjoy at night. I did tell Judy and she had the housekeeper come out and check on it but she wasn’t able to do anything. I also was dismayed to learn that the doors don’t lock from the outside. We were able to lock up at night with us inside but it made me nervous to leave my belongings in an unlocked space when we left the preserve. Over all our stay was very relaxed and cosy, I’m already feeling nostalgic about our time there!

    Melaine2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Unique location, you can see the giraffes from the backyard. Glad we found it

    Sofya2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here exceeded our expectations. It is truly a one of kind location. The cabin itself was wonderful, adequately roomy and the hot tub was welcomed after a long day of travel. Take the tour. You will not be disappointed and will definitely learn about the animals on the property.

    Beth2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and rejuvenating time relaxing at the cottage! The place was easy to find and very quiet. The mornings had gentle awakenings with birds, the cottage held a lot of vintage details in its design, the furniture was comfortable, and clean and thoughtfully-appointed. We brought our own food in a cooler and had everything we needed to prepare meals, including the oven and microwave. Judy was very responsive and helpful, and checked in with us during the tour to make sure we had what we needed. It was really easy to walk to the quaint main street of the town, too. (Note for tall guests: My husband is 6' and he found the bed and couch a little short for lying down on, but it did not detract from our stay and he slept well. We both have back problems and felt well-rested.) We also took the tour and were very pleased to see the emphasis on conservation and behavioral science, as well as the partnerships that the preserve is actively pursuing. We are recommending it to our friends and definitely plan to return! (P.S. Another plus was there is a friendly cat on the property who will walk you back to your cottage in the dark!)

Tidewater Cottage is a special place in a special town. One of the oldest houses on the Mendocino coast, it offers a unique stay for the adventurous and fans of classic style. Featuring a newly remodeled bathroom, laundry on site, and ample space for a small family or multiple couples, Tidewater is a perfect base to explore the Mendocino coast and get to know Point Arena, one of the friendliest, most down-to-earth towns on Highway 1.
The living room and downstairs bedroom enjoy central heat, but you'll need to use and monitor the space heaters in the upstairs bedrooms (they heat the rooms quickly but should NOT be left unattended). Though the downstairs heater and space heaters are more than adequate to keep the house comfortable, as an older house in a cool climate, things can get chilly around the edges! It's recommended you bring comfy warm clothes and especially some thick socks and/or slippers to keep your feet warm on the tile of the bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen features a gourmet 6 burner gas range, oven, dishwasher, and a dining table for 4. There are many excellent local dining options, but cooking a gourmet meal in the kitchen is eminently possible. I provide coffee and tea (with creamer and sugar) as well as instant oatmeal and granola bars for all guests.
Tidewater Cottage is about two blocks from the main drag, with cafes and restaurants and a movie theater (which provides an awesome mix of first run film, archival movies, and live art performances) all within a block or two on Highway 1, or Main street as it's called in town. The port, about 3/4 of a mile down Port road, also has a coffee shop and restaurant , a fantastic place to catch an ever-spectacular Point Arena sunset. Other great local attractions include Bowling Ball Beach, Manchester State Beach, the Stornetta Coastal National Monument, the B. Bryan Wildlife preserve featuring giraffes and other African mammals, and the local Pomo casino.
  • Evan is very responsive to questions. His small place is charming and comfortable. Great beds and bathroom. We've paid twice as much without the comfort and charm here! We love Point Arena and hope to return often.

There are insects too ... :)
The Redwood Forest Camping Hut is set in the woods with no visible neighbours. Our neighbors are all generally very quiet. Our little town of Elk is fairly small, but beautiful. A great place for a hike down to the beach or along the coastline. For any provisions we have a great market (The Elk Store - closes 6:00pm) with sandwiches, cheeses, a great selection of wine and beer, and all other main essentials. You can grab breakfast/lunch at Queens Roadhouse Cafe (Thursday thru Monday 8am to 3pm). There are also many other restaurants/cafes along Hwy 1 within a few miles. --- Mendocino - 25 min (14.6 miles) Elk Town - 11 min (5.4 miles) The larger market in Mendocino is open until 9:00pm.
  • Our weekend getaway at Rob and Elsa's tree camping hut was magical. We liked all the detailed touches (especially the cute notes), the comfy bed, the outdoor shower (complete with eucalyptus oil), the recommendations on local restaurants (shout out to Queenie's!) and the relaxing atmosphere. The hut was well constructed and the furnishings were very stylish and cozy. We left inspired to build a little forest cabin for ourselves one day. Until then, we hope to return to enjoy the camping hut again soon.

  • My stay at the Forest retreat was magical. The design and details were above what I expected and it's those little details that make this place so great. I will definitely be back again.

  • Such a magical experience! Rob & Elsa put so much thought and detail into this space. It felt so lovely to spend our gals weekend, gazing out to the redwoods, and breathing in that fresh air! What a nice escape from the city... a true gem! Thank You.

    Courtney2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for letting us stay in your masterpiece!! Your home was a dream and it was better than our wildest dreams. So many personal touches and everything was so intentional. I was blown away. Such a great place to stay!

  • Rob & Elsa’s place is gorgeous with detail-oriented style. We loved the coziness and comfortability of the space. The bedroom was a dream and we really enjoyed the chance to disconnect from our phones and computers!

    Regina2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Rob and Elsa have really created a little piece of paradise in their Camping Hut! It's so beautifully designed, and there are a lot of thoughtful touches. My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful weekend! We hope to come back in the future!

    Julie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a little slice of heaven! And the little details that Rob and Elsa thought of just add a little magic to their beautiful cabin.

    Hedvy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing stay. I felt totally off the grid (only nature sounds, trees, and the stars) while surrounded by thoughtful amenities and stylish design. I loved taking a forest bath and the hut couldn’t have been cozier on a chilly night. And don’t get me started on the playlist that greeted me; basically, they have great taste in every respect. :)

This cabin is located on one of Mendocino's most beautiful properties. It is just ten minutes to the coastal town of Mendocino and is on 12 acres of giant redwoods and open meadows. Spend your days at the beach or hiking in the the redwoods! *Please note that the property had unexpected maintenance a few years ago so which is why we had to cancel some reservations and rehome guests in our studio in town

Spend your days at the beach or hiking in the the redwoods! The cabin is located on 12 acres of old growth redwoods and beautiful open sunny meadows. There is an giant swing just steps from the cabin and hiking trails right off the property. Hot tub, hiking trails, swings, hammock We like to make sure our guests have their privacy. The giant redwoods, the closeness to the ocean. There is a bus between the town of Mendocino and the town of Fort Bragg. Please make sure you use our directions as posted on site, to get here. If you use your GPS it will likely send you the back way which is very windy and although it is a few miles shorter it will actually take you longer to get here.

  • The place is quite quaint, the location is really central and right in the heart of town. We ended at the property given that our previous reservation at one of their other properties got cancelled 2 days before our trip, but with all things considered D&R were accommodating and were able to place us in this place which we ended up liking too! Really easy to access and you can come and go as you place as it has its own separate entrance.

  • A beautiful secluded cabin surrounded by forest. Comfortable and quiet. Highly recommended if you are seeking seclusion yet still very close to the coast and amenities.

    Steven2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is the perfect quiet getaway! It's a great place to cozy up and watch movies. My husband and I came here for one of our honeymoon destinations. Unfortunately, we didn't have wifi so we downloaded movies, podcasts, and music while in town to be able to enjoy them at the cabin. This cabin is close to a lot of beautiful, scenic locatiions. We enjoyed good food in Mendocino / Fort Bragg, horse back riding at Ricochet Ridge Ranch, and exploring at Glass Beach. Arrive for your first time during the day if you're scared of the dark like me...

  • Overall, a wonderful experience. The cabin is adorable and on the most beautiful property. It is very comfortable (the electric heater really does it's job). It feels very isolated and secluded all while being just a 10 min drive to town!

    Lucia2016-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful respite during a particularly hectic time. My dog and I loved staying in this lovely little cabin and the property is stunning. The hot tub was perfect and the view from the hot tub was divine. I would love to return soon! Thank you.

    Cara2016-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome little place! Super quiet and plenty of forrest for the dogs to check out. There isn't a stove so we brought a little backpacking stove and made breakfast at a picnic table out on the property. The heater warmed the place right up and the shower had plenty of hot water. We never got to connect with the hosts, we were out most of the time, but Daphinie made a point to text and see that we were settled in. Easy 10 min. drive into Fort Bragg.

  • This place is unique and a tru gem close to Sea Ranch - the most stunning place on the westcoast. We enjoyed our stay and will come back for sure. Thanks Lincoln for everything!

    Florian2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The space is stunning, beautifully decorated and appointed. A single style apartment, yes, but roomy nonetheless. The bed is awesome and I want the shower head at home. The view is killer. This a very comfortable and stylish way to spend time on the southern Mendocino Coast. One mile, if that, from Gualala and supermarkets and restaurants but on a hill above the highway and it's noise. Lincoln is responsive and communicative. His accommodation has all the necessities and everything is new and well maintained. I'd say I'd stay there again but I actually am already booked for two more stays in this and his other apartment. Can't beat it for price, value, comfort and location. I heartily recommend.

    Scott2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay while visiting Gualala or any of the nearby beach towns. It was well-appointed yet pleasantly spare--a very relaxing spot. The view from the deck is lovely! I appreciated the easy communication with Lincoln, as well as the simple check-in/out.

    Majkin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This private suite was perfect for a weekend getaway for two! Lincoln did a great job of letting us be and entrusting us with his space, but we also knew he was a message away if any issues arose or if we had any questions. We had a relaxing weekend exploring the cozy town of Gualala and exploring the breathtaking shore lines and nearby hiking trails. I would definitely recommend this space to all, it is great value! We hope to come back again. Thank you, Lincoln!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this airBnB rental! It was very convenient and most comfortable for our needs. We felt very safe and secure while here and enjoyed the preserve as well. Thank you for a memorable visit to California!

  • Great place; I highly recommend!

    Candra2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • I heard my friend say, "I could live here." The carriage house was that nice and comfortable and thoughtfully put together. I would recommend B Bryan Preserve to anyone, both for the lodging and the tour (which you separately sign up for). I plan on coming back next year.

    Margaret2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We totally enjoyed our stay and the accommodations were great. The second bedroom is small. We loved being at the Preserve and did a tour to see the animals. We hope to stay here again.

    Alice2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • An extremely unique experience. Staying on a wildlife preserve in wonderfully quirky Point Arena was wonderful. The accommodations are clean and reflect the personality of the property owners. It isn't what I would call "fancy." Pretty basic kitchen, electric stove, etc. but it more than served our needs and made for a great and well-priced home base for exploring the Mendocino coast from Gualala up to Fort Bragg (and everything in between). We stayed at the accommodation above the garage. Just note that the ceiling slopes along with the shape of the roof itself so "watch out." if you don't like that, you probably should find another room on the property. Visiting the wildlife sanctuary is a must. It's also surprisingly affordable. I recommend Dr Frank and Judy's place highly!

    Damon2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place is pretty cool. The Carriage House is bigger than it looks which was nice. Plenty of room. Everything you would need is there. Clean, quiet and charming. Definitely recommend this place!!

    Kim Mechele2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The carriage house was well located. Great central location for adventures on the Mendocino and Sonoma coast. Super clean and quiet! Both Judy and the staff (the housekeeper was kind enough to show us the entry to the carriage house when we got confused) are helpful and friendly. If someone in your family is into animals you can't beat the convenience of walking to the tour starting location.

    Mary2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time we've stayed in the carriage house. It's a cozy space with lots of fresh air. Frank and Judy responded in about 1 minute one evening when we were stranded without a response from another host and needed a place to settle in. They made sure everything was clean and got us booked in minutes. Like last time, we had a blast. Everyone slept well, the kitchen is fun for cooking, and the living room area is great for reading. We would like to go back a third time.

  • This trip exceeded any expectations. Every detail of our stay was thought of in advance. This included towels for showering and the hot tub, snacks, fresh local coffee and half and half and more. Rose Marie and Vernon were great hosts who told us the history of their home and included a thorough tour and description of the property. Did I mention the patio with outdoor kitchen is amazing? This is a great find.

  • This is a private bedroom and bath in a Charming farmhouse located on the east side of Highway 1 with ocean views and a large property with both indoor and outdoor when we go to dinner space

    Vince2019-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ok folks, Mary Rose and Vernon are perfect hosts. Their place is way up the Mendocino coast and worth every mile. The room is so cozy and they have thought of everything. From a bowl of fresh fruit to coffee, teas, a microwave and even a gas grill if you brought meats or bbq, oh yes and a little fridge. The night sky (when clear) is just spectacular so bring your binoculars and sky charts. At night the place is so quiet and dark. There are dear who come to munch on the huge front yard. We saw a yearling buck (with the sweetest little velvet antlerettes) stand on his hind legs and nibble on the leaves of the apple tree tree that is right outside the front door of the room. Come up for relaxation, for the view, the drive and just enjoy.

  • A nice quiet location with a comfortable bed.

    Eric2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place for when visiting Gualala/Point Arena! I was attending a wedding in the area and the location was perfect! Nothing was more than a 10 minute drive away. Rosa has prepared the room for anything that you could need during your stay and is at the ready to add or change anything based on your preferences or needs. Their home was the perfect quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of my life in San Francisco. Sadly, with being out and about to help put on the wedding, I didn't get to spend as much time enjoying the property as I would have liked, there's a beautiful redwood grove and hammocks/lawn chairs that they have set up for use. I would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the area.

    Sam2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great little spot! We were only in town for 1 day for a wedding but it was nice to have a comfortable room to return to after a lot of dancing. And there were some great touches, like complementary snacks that we really appreciated

  • This is a lovely, secluded spot! Going to sleep under the stars and waking up to the redwoods above was really special. Climbing up to the loft was a little tricky but kind of fun once I got the hang of it. The drive to Tiny House is truly beautiful. What a special place!

    Kelly2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this place! Would recommend to everyone I know. Amazing location, incredible host, beautiful space! So many thoughtful touches and beautiful details made this a breath-taking experience.

    Kristen2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • As a first-time tiny house and vertical ladder experience, some great, albeit, hilarious memories were made. The tiny house is great for two, and is exactly as described~five minutes off Hwy 1, close to restaurants and beaches for great sunsets! The climb up the ladder was a piece of cake, reminded me of climbing ladders in barns growing up. For the climb down a little more challenging. I had to do a bit of head-scratching but had some great coaching from my husband! I agree with other reviews, not for anyone with limited mobility.

    Patsy2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great space with everything you need and nothing you don’t. It is a treat to be able look up through the sky lights at night and see the stars and enjoy the quiet of the space.

    Seth2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely tiny house in Gualala with easy check in and out. Thanks Rene and Molley!

    Joanna2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay! Main house is pretty close to the tiny home and the loft is definitely a vertical climb! But we were fair warned about that 😅 the grill was super nice and were provided firewood to make a bonfire. Super romantic valentines getaway! Loved our stay here, Molley and René were fabulous hosts and gave super clear directions for our stay.

    Jaime2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a cool place to stay! Very quiet and beautiful space. The description in the listing is very accurate in regards to it being a little difficult to climb up to the loft. The place was clean and we loved being able to see the stars and trees as we dozed off to sleep.

My place is close to the beach 18 miles to Elk and ocean. You’ll love my place because It's clean, safe and quite. and it is cozy. My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. we are of off the main road and the last 1/2 is on a rock road. Depending upon the time of year it may have a few pot holes. However you will have no problems driving a normal car. We do it all the time. check in anytime after 11 am. call me if you want to arrive earlier.
A couple of our guest stated that they would have like having drapes. We listened and there are now drapes. Also one commented that the head board on the bed was movable. It has been fixed to the wall. We listen and are here for you.
The cabin is located off of a county road. The last half mile may be a little washboard; so drive slowly. There are plenty of place to hike right from the cabin. We have two dogs and two older horses.
  • My husband and I were looking to get away for a few days from the hustle bustle. Bob's place was perfect for just what we needed. We really enjoyed hanging out, cooking lots of meals, playing board games and watching movies. It is quiet and remote, but close to some awesome areas. One of our favorite wineries (Golden Eye) and a lot of other good ones are close, Mendocino isn't far and actually getting to the coast is a beautiful drive through redwoods. Bob also sent us home with a keepsake portrait of my husband and me and our dog. It was a great stay! Thanks again, Bob!

    Erin2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is the perfect getaway. It’s far enough away from everything to feel quite remote but close enough to wineries and Henry wood state park to enjoy. Robert is extremely friendly and we played a game of pool together. The photos he took and printed for us are incredible and he is quite talented. The cabin had great water pressure/temperature control. The fireplace kept us toasty even on a couple chilly nights. Kitchen was fully stocked for all major cooking needs. Plenty of extra blankets, pillows, towels. All around a great spot.

    Alex2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The place was nicer than it looked in the pictures. Robert was very welcoming and we love the portrait. Great little spot :)

  • What a wonderful cabin and location! We wanted to be in the woods but not really camping. And that is what Hoof and Paws offered. Robert is a wonderful host. The photo he took of us is wonderful and such a unique gift. Our dog had the best time running in the woods around the cabin and on the scenic walks we took down the dirt roads. Very safe and clean and peaceful. Highly recommended.

Located on Katherine House Farm, 2.5 miles from the wild and beautiful Navarro beach river estuary. This is a rustic, country guest-room, looking out over a backdrop of forest and flower gardens. The property is bordered on two sides by 600 acres of ranch land. This is a true country getaway, immersed with the local flora and fauna.
Enjoy your retreat on a property, made up of forest, gardens and meadows. Guests have private entrance to room, which is set apart from the main house by a brick path. There is a set of steep wooden stairs leading up to the guest house with bathroom set away from room down a brick path. Organic coffee and tea makings are provided in your room, as well as a desk for reading and creative work. A private deck area is located downstairs, with seating and an outdoor shower. Private bathroom with claw foot tub is located down a well lit brick path. This is truly country living and not for the squeamish when it comes to the odd banana slug passing by. Nights can get chilly, but the Queen bed is equipped with a warm down comforter and there is an electric oil heater available. This is a small room with sloping ceilings for 1 to 2 people. Wifi is not currently available, but we have had success using the cellphone "hotspot" from providers that work on the coast, such as Verizon and U.S. Cellular.
Shops, restaurants and internet cafes can be found in the wonderfully quaint village of Mendocino, a scenic 20 minute drive north, up Hwy 1. The Ledford House restaurant, offers French-American cuisine and an ocean view, a mere 10 minute drive away. The wild and beautiful Navarro beach is located 2.5 miles down the road. The small and charming town of Elk is located 12 minutes South down Hwy 1.
  • A very peaceful and quiet place. My wife loved the special touches that made our room very charming. We would definitely stay here again.

    Richard2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • This little guest house is adorable. First off, the garden is gorgeous and I love the chairs on the porch for guests to be able to enjoy it. And of course the room was very charming. Love the A line roof and the rustic decor. It was also very nice of Jane to provide water, a water heater, tea and coffee. Lastly, I was nervous about the outdoor bathroom, but the toilet/tub is in a room that stores heat pretty well for being outside. And the outdoor shower is nice because you get to look at the garden and pretty nature while showering in water as hot as you want. Btw if you have Verizon then you do get a little network at this location. All in all, a very relaxing and beautiful getaway from our busy work life.

  • Never stayed in such an unique place. It's like traveling back in time without loosing the modern amenities. Highly recommend this place!

  • Jane was so sweet and accommodating. The place was adorable and idyllic, deer staring at you from the lawn on your way to the bathroom in the morning. The outdoor shower also provided the awesome experience of starting into the forest while bathing. 11/10 so good!

  • Beautiful home, very close to route 1! Very relaxing and calm. Lots of stairs so not for those with mobility issues.

    Katrina2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jane’s place was one of the best Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed at! It was a wonderful experience. Her house is located in the middle of the woods, surrounded with wildlife. The bedroom is beautifully arranged, in a ‘romantic vintage’ style, this could be a honeymoon stay or a perfect getaway for a couple. The outdoor shower was amazingly refreshing in the morning too!

    Maria2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jane was a wonderful host with some great suggestions. The bed was super comfortable and I loved the outdoor shower. Favorite part of the day was sitting by the garden reading as the sun was going down. Fabulous all around.

    Linda2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jane’s property is a dreamy stop off of the 1 where we were welcomed by her horse walking up to our car and the scent of lavender in the air around the garden room. The garden itself is beautiful, as is the entire property. Jane has clearly put a lot of heart and time into everything and made it a really homey spot for visitors. The room itself is lovely and we also enjoyed the outdoor shower just below our room, despite it being a chilly morning. Jane had lavender hanging to dry in one of her spaces that we purchased a bundle to bring home with us just as a memento of the lovely evening we spent there. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay, Jane!

  • This was my second trip to Coast Guard Inn. Can’t wait to return. Such a peaceful and beautiful spot to relax and unwind. Took an amazing hike up on the bluffs and the ocean view was breathtaking! Highly recommended.

  • Had a great time in the cove. Fireworks were right outside of our cottage for the fourth of July celebration and it was really special! The place is cute and well placed!

  • Cozy little spot in a gorgeous location! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • A wonderful quiet spot to get away near the ocean. There’s a great breakfast spot within walking distance (at the wharf building).

    Maria2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was charming inside, with efficient and beautifully crafted built-in wood work around the bed. The view was lovely, and the location was great to go down to the harbor for coffee or seafood. It was comfortable-shoe walking distance to Point Arena, and the theater in town, or the 215 bar both have live music sometimes. We found the bed and pillows very comfortable, and the sheets were soft and luxurious.

  • This place is right in the middle of sea ranch and pt arena. We had the hot tub to ourselves which was fantastic. The kitchen was a bit small, BUT we were able to do some great cooking in there; just one person at a time :) the bed was very comfortable and the space was nice and warm. Kim showed us around and left thoughtful notes around for us to use so we didn’t have any questions! Would definitely stay again!

As described by the Redwood Coast Chamber of Commerce: Anchor Bay (3.1 miles south of property), a small southern Mendocino County coastal village, lies in the heart of the "banana belt", because of it`s unique microclimate; a warm column of air from inland spills over the protective coastal mountains, making the area warmer, with less fog and wind, than the surrounding areas. In the striking photo to the right by West of One, note the fog bank that blankets the coast just north of the curve of Fish Rock Beach. The seclusion of this bay and Fish Rock Beach was enormously attractive to rumrunners during Prohibition. The long wind-protected white sand beach offers fishing, abalone and scuba diving, ocean kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding and skim boarding in season, sea lion and whale watching, beachcombing and tide pooling. Public access is through Anchor Bay Campground for a nominal access fee to use the beach or launch watercraft. Tent and RV camping is also available. The town offers an old-fashioned village market that specializes in natural foods with a complete wine & beer emporium. There are currently two restaurants & a cafe just below the rental home. Take exploratory day trips to historic sites, towns, and/or the wine country! For some ideas on things to do, places to eat, and beach access and hiking along the coast, visit the Utopia By The Sea Vacation Rentals website!
  • This place is our favorite Airbnb of ALL time. This place is absolutely stunning and the views from this home are breathtaking. The photos seriously do not do this place justice- the property and home are both GORGEOUS. There are so many fun little gardens to explore on the grounds and wonderful gems throughout the property. The hot tub was also a nice addition and the fireplace in the home was adorable and perfect - we thoroughly enjoyed sitting by it each night. Additionally, the owners of this magical place are extremely responsive, friendly, and accommodating. We will definitely be back!! INCREDIBLE experience all around

And it is free to visit! Don’t miss this unique and spectacular “neighbor” while you are here. • This location is stunning. With your rental you get complimentary access to the tallest lighthouse in the west, and the lighthouse museum. The view from the top is breathtaking. We saw whale spouts and flukes within minutes. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room is small, but comfortable and warm, with a cozy bed, and a welcoming bottle of wine to greet us.

  • My fiance and I recently stayed the evening here at the Point Arena Lighthouse and had an excellent experience. Mark and the rest of the team at the lighthouse were very accommodating and gracious hosts — we enjoyed touring the Museum and Lighthouse, and learning more about the property's rich history. The grounds are delightful, an we enjoyed strolling to the various nearby beaches and viewpoints. The accommodations were excellent — clean, comfortable, and functional. This was our first stay at the Point Arena Lighthouse, but will certainly not be our last. We look forward to visiting again in the near future, and will certainly recommend these accommodations to friends and family. Thanks again, Mercedes & Kai

  • We really loved after many years of visiting lighthouses to be able to stay at one. We highly recommend the Keepers Room for the outstanding views from it and surroundings. Very clean and comfy. Calming and warm fireplace was very nice after a long day of coast exploring. A spectacular sunset was had. And saw a whale when we first got there. Added Bonus.

*** New Listing! *** Escape to the coast, just a couple hours drive from San Francisco, North on Highway 1. Cozy remodeled cabin, nestled among the coastal redwoods on Highway 1 in Anchor Bay. Enjoy the large redwood deck with ocean views (you can even hear the sea lions at Fish Rock). Walk to the beach! Located in Anchor Bay (Gualala) just North of The Sea Ranch.
Quiet, friendly neighborhood with easy access to the beach, coffee shop and restaurants. There is also a convenience store within easy walking distance.
  • The place was exactly what we expected and a great find! One thing to note is that they use space heaters to warm house and if you are coming during colder months the house may be a bit chilly.

  • Cozy, comfy spot with a great location. Great value!

    Steven2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second stay here and it was as great as the first time! Close to a lot of things in Gualala or Point Arena and within walking distance to a little coffee shop, market, yoga studio and ocean vista with a bench.

    Sara2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great for a quiet getaway. Wonderful place to relax and be among nature. Short walk to beach and you can see the ocean from the deck and great views of the stars at night. Point Arena Light House, Bowling Ball Beach is a short drive away. This place was immaculate and the Netflix was an added bonus. We would certainly come again.

    Carrie2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely space and we really enjoyed our stay. Just a few minutes from Gualala in Anchor Bay, the beach is walkable from the house. They have obviously put a lot of work into the house and it was immaculate when we arrived. As the owners had stated, the house needed a bit of time to warm up with the space heaters but once it had, it stayed warm and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would visit again any time.

  • Place was exactly as described and was a wonderful value. Hosts provided helpful local insight and were very quick with responses. Thanks Ryan and Darnie!

    Geoffrey2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan & Darnie's place was beautiful and peaceful. I was very comfortable during my stay. It was a great base to explore the coast. I loved that you could see the ocean from the deck (you're far away but can still see it a little bit) and that I could hear the sea lions barking at night. Great cooking set up as well.

    Heather2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan & Darnie's space was my first AirBnB experience and I don't regret it for a second. The hosts were communicative and supremely helpful in giving advice for places to go. Just a short walk from the beach and local grocery store and restaurants. We felt very comfortable, safe, and it was very clean. The space is beautiful and very much lives up to the photos. We just loved every minute of our visit.

This small home was designed as a remodel of an existing hippie cabin-in-the-woods. It has a queen size bed in the bedroom (downstairs) and one, exposed, twin mattress for an extra guest* in the loft upstairs. Soaring 18 foot butterfly walls, separated by an acre of redwood forest from nearest neighbors. It has a garden just outside. No cell phone reception but a landline provided for your use and VERY fast wifi . Filtered ocean view. Also features a fire view wood stove in the living room, a small, nicely equipped kitchen, Fußball in the tiny loft, and a tiled bath with shower/tub. Two other dwellings on the property, each on its own private acre in the woods can be found listed on airbnb. At this spot, it is possibly 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean with naked green hills and deep forests of redwood, Doug Fir and pine all around. At night there are no lights to be seen from the guest house, outside of its own small illumination. Tranquil and set in spectacular nature -- excellent for bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts looking for deer, wild rabbits, and other small, harmless, creatures. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for clean air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has an epicurean French Bakery noted by several national magazines, a coop market with locally produced, organic produce in summer, an excellent 3 star restaurant, bread clubs featuring organic artisan breads AND a first-rate cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera. The tiny city is located an hour south of the popular village of Mendocino -- another destination for spas and artisanal goods. Local sports include kayaking, hiking and biking along the coast, fishing, diving and and surfing off the pier. Inland, a 1.25 hour drive from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country (URL HIDDEN) which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino region.

Victorian spot for two. Walk 1/16 to hidden beach with the most shells we’ve ever seen, sit by the fire inside or outside at the fire pit, put your feet in the creek, drink spring water. Give your car a rest. Pick apples and berries, use the little inferred sauna, sleep, watch deer and quail and bunnies. Wake up to birds, picnic in the apple orchard. Vacation Mendo style!
  • This Airbnb was great! The perfect spot for our weekend up in the Mendocino area. The Airbnb itself is super neat with a cool historic feel as well as well kept! The location was beautiful and a great jumping off point to venture into Mendocino or even up to Fort Bragg. Very close to wonderful state parks like Van Damme. Would 100% come back and plan to!

  • I come here every year and always have a wonderful time. The setting is peaceful surrounded by a fruit orchard and close to the beach. My dog absolutely loves it here, the atmosphere is relaxing and the apartments are very charming. It's a quick drive away from great hiking trails, beaches and Mendocino downtown. Highly recommend this place! Bring your 4 legged buddy, they will love it!

  • Our room was so adorable and felt really private. There is a great spot for an outdoor fire which we decided against because it got too chilly but will plan a future visit and fire. The recommended beach nearby is really a great find, it’s so beautiful. I would recommend this place and will likely book again.

  • We were lucky enough to book this gem at the last minute for a weekend getaway. The property is beautiful, and the hosts have done a great job with it. There were clear instructions and suggestions - take the walk to the beach, you will not be disappointed! We went at sunrise and it was absolutely stunning. We loved the old victorian farmhouse vibe (pull chain toilet!). The bathroom was roomy, the bedroom was the perfect amount of space. Bed was a little creaky but we were wiped from our adventures so we didn’t mind too much. This will definitely be where we stay when we come back to Mendocino!

Redwood cabin in the redwoods! We have a beautiful cabin with incredible views 5 miles from the ocean and the town of Elk. We live in the farmhouse on the property and will be here to help with anything but otherwise we keep to ourselves :) We can't wait to meet you!
The cabin has a bedroom with a queen sized bed (sleeps 2) and the futon in the living room also folds out into a queen sized bed (sleeps 2). There is a single padded mattress in the loft area as well (sleeps 1).
We are tucked away in nature so it's best to bring food and snacks with you to the cabin. The Elk store is about 6 miles away and they do have essentials as well as a delicious deli counter. Most surrounding restaurants are closed during the winter time, but they do reopen in the spring. There is also a larger town, named Mendocino, that does have more restaurant and store options. Please ask if you have any questions!
  • The place was amazing and will definitely come back Brittany and branden were a great hosts. Great place for a couple or even family.

This carriage house is on one of the oldest Victorian properties in Mendocino. This gorgeous updated guest house is on a beautiful three acres that was a historical B&B in the past. Wander the property and enjoy the sauna, put your feet in the creek, pick apples in the apple orchard, enjoy evenings by the fire pit, or walk to the best secret shell beach on the coast! Come relax, Mendocino style!
  • We really enjoyed our stay at D&R's place. Our room had a fireplace which was great while it was rainy and cold outside. The space was spotless and the we slept great on the comfy bed! Would definitely recommend if you want to stay outside a town but be close to both Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Perfect distance to beaches and the town of Mendocino. I would highly recommend and will be back! If you are excited about the fireplaces, come with supplies!

A private, clean, quiet cabin, in the woods. Wifi and EV charging. Well mannered dog welcome. Wild english garden, indoor and outdoor kitchens, fabulous bathroom. Warm and welcoming. Puzzles & Games. Magical! It's a must see!
Juliette's Place is two miles from the ocean, where the only sounds you will hear is the ocean crashing against the rocks, and an occasional passing car. We offer jigsaw puzzles, novels, fabulous organic tea, a wood stove, and a beautiful outdoor kitchen for nice days. This cabin is the epitome of the country experience, and a great place to get away! Juliette, who lived in the cabin for thirty years, played the cello and welcomed her musician friends, who came to stay with her from all over the world. You can still hear faint strains of the music in the breeze.
The cabin is set in the woods with no visible neighbors. The neighbors are generally quiet, with an occasional child's voice or dog barking. We have one neighbor who whistles as he works outside, but you may never hear him.
  • A sweet, quiet spot nestled in the woods and only minutes from the coast. The wood burning stove was especially cozy in the rain and fog, as was soaking in the tub. Peter and Lee are excellent hosts and it was great to have someone right next door to answer questions who also completely respected our privacy. They provide tide books, and maps of local state parks which is how we learned about the jug handle reserve - highly recommend the ecological staircase trail / pygmy forest.

    Stephanie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute spot, felt rather isolated from the rest of the surrounding homes in a nice way. There was a great wood stove in the middle that was a lot of fun to keep lit and made the place smell quite pleasant (wood was very well stocked!). Less than 10 minutes from the city of Mendocino and lots a nearby oceanside hikes. There is a nice little grocery store just down the road that made light shopping quite convenient. Bed was very comfortable for the two of us and really warm (and we stayed warm after the wood stove had burned out throughout the night). There is a really cool bathtub and a kitchen that was more or less fully equipped (but limited to two small burners). Great value and awesome location overall.

    Kyle2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Charming, cozy little cabin tucked in the woods. Beautiful location, nice and quiet, well stocked with firewood for the wood burning stove and kitchen essentials. Peter was very kind and helpful. Easy drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

    Katie2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • A stay at juliette's is always amazing. We love taking baths in the big tub they have, as well as using the bidet. Staying in winter is especially gratifying as you use a wood stove to keep warm. The tea is always nice in the winter too. After many stays Lee and Peter have always provided many different new kinds of tea, which are always good. It's also a nice place to come for inspiration for art. A wonderful secluded getaway that's not too far from the modern world to be inconvenient.

    Grant2019-12-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very unique little cabin in a quiet part only 10 minutes from Mendocino with friendly hosts. The place was well kept, rustic, and very Mendocino-feeling. Would highly recommend!

    Eli2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is adorable, the bathtub is fantastic, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the bed so so comfortable! Plus, the skylights in the roof are incredible, watching the stars from bed is such a treat.

    Kamala2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away in a quiet, green, back to basic place. We loved our stay! If you are looking for a cabin in the woods, where you will put away your phones in order to make a puzzle, this is your spot.

    Suzanne2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, my partner and I had an absolutely beautiful time here at Lee and Peter’s space. The cabin is so darling and gets incredible sunlight, the bathtub was such a dream and the cabin itself was so cozy. The skylight above the bed allowed us to observe a beautiful full moon. Lee also included tea from their tea company that was delicious and such a thoughtful touch. The hosts were very quick and good at responding. We enjoyed our time here very much and would love to return.

A deluxe school bus located off Hwy 1, 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, provide a secluded, sunny off-grid artistic getaway, with organic gardens, outdoor tubs & "malibu shower", plus fully equipped kitchen, wood-stove & on-demand hot water.
Converted into my home over a decade ago, this bus served as my home until I bought this property in 2006, and it has since been the deluxe guest bus. It is very comfortable and comes with all the luxury one would expect in a cabin -- hot water, full kitchen, refrigerator, and queen bed. It should be noted however, that the ceiling is only 6 foot high, and thus my not be suited to tall people! Also, there is a private toilet, but it is not inside the bus...instead it is a short jaunt from the front door. Also, I suggest bringing flip flops or some kind of easy on and off shoes, both for the bus and the bathroom jaunt. I request that the bus be kept as a "no shoes" environment, as I am discovering that the enviro oak flooring is quite sensitive to wear. Built mainly from recycled & resourced second hand materials, the bus is a 1985 Chevy with a Detroit Diesel engine. Her interior was designed with the "live lightly on the land" aesthetic and all appliances were chosen because they work well with solar power, including propane fridge and oven/stove and wood stove. The bus has an additional sleeping cubby that can sleep a youth and additional bedding is available -- however it is not "child-proofed" so kids must be at least six years old (but "pre-ambulatory" infants are fine too). Furthermore, I'm willing to consider small dogs (10lbs and under) upon request, but the bus will not accommodate medium and big-sized dogs. Dog owners must bring their own dog bedding and towels, and, in the winter or after the beach owners must be sure and dry off their doggies fur and paws. Also, no cats allowed -- as much as I love them, I am allergic.
I live in the sunny "banana belt" part of the coast. Often the fog is just down the road, but not here. The property has full southern exposure, which means it is light all day long. And of course, on moonless nights, the view of the milky way is spectacular! I am approximately 2 miles from bowling ball beach, which is an amazing, often photographed public accessible beach.
  • The bus is an inspiring work of art! And so comfortable and cozy...it is pleasure to read on the cozy couch by the wood burning stove and glance out of the school bus windows at the huckleberry blossoms and Redwood trees. Everything is thoughtfully provided and arranged...kindling, kettle and compost container...Blake is warm and welcoming. What she has created with this beautiful land has inspired us! An environment of deep care, humor, love, acceptance , color, off the grid resources, is good healing .

  • AMAZING host. BEAUTIFUL space. Listing already looked awesome but it was so much more than I could’ve expected. The great getaway from the hectic life. Blake is super accommodating and warm

  • our 2nd time in the magic school bus, really an excellent place that we love to visit

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had been itching to get out of the city for a while and this was the perfect weekend getaway. Did not arrive until late at night and Blake was out of town so def a little scary showing up at night but only because I’m scared of the dark and had no idea what our surroundings actually looked like until the morning and it was the most beautiful zen sanctuary! We spent two nights here and brought all our own food so never even left the bus all weekend. The area was perfect to spend the day and explore in. There’s a lot to do and see and you can even take a small hike which was very convenient! We didn’t shower once the entire time there, mainly just didn’t feel the need to but the shower looked great! The tubs were out of order but would’ve loved to use them and Blake tried her best to get in contact with her plumber which I really appreciated. There was one person living in another trailer on the other side and a few people driving in and out which is no big deal to us. Protips: bring coffee if you are a coffee fiend (no tea or coffee on bus) and def check your dogs for ticks. We brought our 9lb dog and luckily my husband grew up in the country because I had no idea what a tick even looked like and our dog was covered in ticks and we had to pick them all out before getting back on the bus. I downloaded a bunch of movies on my iPad for the trip but of course forgot it at home but it was fine without. My T-Mobile also worked. The cassette tapes and cds were fun but a lot of the cassette tapes didn’t work anymore :( Would def come back and already recommended to all my friends!

    Tiffany2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

Light and airy timber peg cottage with ocean views, easy access, private beach one minute drive away, centrally located between Gualala and Point Arena.
The cottage is cozy and will comfortably fit two people, though up to four is possible. The futon couch folds down to a bed, and the chair next to the futon also folds out flat to accommodate a single sleeper if necessary. Full service kitchen. Firewood provided for fireplace to make a winter evening even more cozy. Bathroom has a large walk in shower. Tons of light in every room! Because of light carpeting and other factors, pets are not permitted in the cottage.
Located on a small subdivision close to the ocean, on a dirt road but close to the entrance of it. Wonderful location for walks, beaches and relaxation!
  • Beautiful house and location. Perfect for a weekend getaway. The absolute only downside that you should note before booking is that the beach near-floods during high-tide, so there's not much sand left to actually spend a whole day there. I don't know how the tides vary over the year, but I'd imagine judging from the geography that there are times when the entire beach floods, so I would check that if the private beach is a main draw for your stay.

    Gabriel2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great find! I loved the location views and space. Hayley has created a wonderful space to relax and enjoy the coast.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • I wish it were possible to give this place 12 stars. Except I’m a little wary of doing so because I don’t want this gem to get so popular that we can never go back. Hayley is a delightful host, and the location and space are perfect. So light, airy, & comfy. And the access to the beautiful nearby private beach is a great bonus. My partner and I agreed this is our best AirBnB ever!

  • Hayley's place was an absolute gem. This little cozy cottage is located right along the coast and we absolutely loved staying here. The private beach, location, fireplace, and the interior styling of the house were some of our absolute favorite things about staying at Hayley's place. Hayley was also quick to respond to any of our questions - she was a great host! Would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to have a peaceful getaway.

A double bed, with down comforter and cotton sheets, cozy for two. An outhouse and a outdoor shower, roofed and enclosed on three sides. In tree stumps. One quarter mile above the ocean, easy access to Point Arena and Gualala. We have hand built a few houses and buildings out of our milled wood. • Katie was an outstanding host for a group of students! Perfect for a large group that wants to get away

  • The Cobb house is the perfect launch pad to explore this beautiful part of Northern California. The property is stunning and Katie has done an amazing job in adding so many great touches to make the Cobb House a really special place to stay. The propane heater kept us warm even in mid-January and and the outdoor shower was very hot which was a relief! The bed is also super comfy. We will be back!

    Ashlynn2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks again for everything, Katie! We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Cob house, meeting your dogs, and exploring Gualala. It’s a pretty special piece of property you have there, and we’d definitely like to visit again. Cheers!

  • Spectacular view and space!

    Jake2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely magical time at the cob house on Katie's permaculture farm. Nestled in the redwoods a short walk from the ocean, the cob house was the perfect glamping getaway. The outdoor shower—in the stump of a large redwood tree—is not to be missed and gets nice and hot. No electricity, but the lanterns and stars are more than enough, and there's a water spigot nearby for cooking. Make sure you take time to meet Katie and ask about her sourdough bread. The property is a truly beautiful and inspiring testament to permaculture principals.

    Georgia2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for sharing your lovely cob house. Perhaps next time we will be able to meet and tour the farm.

  • This little cob cottage is so cute. I needed to get away for some quite time and this place fit the bill. It was immaculately clean, with tons of charm. The mattress was literally the best I have ever been on in any AirBnb. The shower area was perfect. This place is not for everyone because it is basically off grid. However, if you are looking for that kind of quite and solitude then Katie's place is a sure winner. I definitely intend to return.

Cypress Cottage overlooks Arena Cove and the Pacific beyond on the rugged Mendocino coast. It is surrounded by gardens and the former US Coast Guard Life-Saving Station. Cypress is cozy and inviting, nestled in a quiet hillside with circling birds and lapping waves. Price includes 12% occupancy tax.
Cypress has two levels. The upstairs contains the master bedroom with queen bed and a smaller bedroom with single bed. On the lower level is the ocean view living room, the kitchenette area, a bathroom with shower and an enormous whirlpool spa. A wood burning stove warms the living room while a toasty (and easy to use) gas fireplace heats the spa area.
A mile from the tiny town of Point Arena, adjacent to the California Coastal National Monument and the Stornetta Public Lands. A few miles from the Point Arena Lighthouse and the 7 mile long Manchester State Beach. Point Arena is home to the historic Arena Theater, a beautifully restored Art Deco building showing first run movies and hosting many live music events. Miles and miles of public coastal trails can be found all around us. Look at the hikes section on our Coast Guard House website for ideas.
  • Mia was great in responding to our very last minute trip booking. Checking in was super easy and clear. The cottage is on a beautiful property and stones throw away from the harbor area, which is fun to explore. PG&E cut the power on our second nights stay - Mia was very thoughtful in providing candles and a flashlight. Ended up going for dinner at the local Casino. Pro tip: Casinos almost always have backup generators :) Great local area with beautiful beaches and the Point Arena lighthouse is a fun tour.

  • I highly recommended Mia's place! She is such an amazing host and the Cypress Cottage was perfect. The property is breathtaking and I felt totally relaxed! I especially loved the ocean view from our bed and listening to the waves put me to sleep each night. It's within walking distance to the pier and wharf where you can get an excellent meal at the Chowder House or yummy pizza at the Pizzeria. There's a quaint coffee shop there too. Can't wait to return!

  • Just a fantastic place. Amazing view of the pier. Good food and coffee are a short walk away. The place is quiet, well maintained, and just generally lovely all around. It made a for a great honeymoon house for us!

Mendo dreamy!! Walk to the beach, pick apples and berries, sit by the fire pit outside. Sit by the creek, enjoy the funky sauna, lay in the grass. Bring your kids or best friends to sleep on the fold out sofa or stay in the attached room. Have breakfast on the patio. 3 minutes to town, 1 minute to the best kayaking sea cave tours, 2 minute walk to a secret beach and 1 minute to redwood hiking. Enjoy your vacation the Mendocino way. Ocean, forest, vintage, glamor & a little side of hippy :-)
  • Awesome place to stay, the beach across the street is beautiful!

  • This place was super stylish and super cozy. The fire was hard to start due to the humidity but we were able to get a fire log at the grocery store 7 minutes away. The walls were very thin and we could hear quite a few conversations from neighbors. Overall great stay! It was just a little stressful in the morning and evenings.

  • We loved this little suite on the coast! It was a perfect distance between all that we could need - restaurants, hikes, and beaches. The bed was comfortable and the big tub was a welcome surprise after a day of outdoor activity. We’d love to stay again!

  • Very nice place. Unfortunately we arrived late and left too early the next morning to really enjoy the place. Would definitely stay there again.

  • This place is completely awesome. Super close to everything you might want to do. Glass beach, Fort Bragg, Mendo, all of it. Cell service is zero for about 10 miles before the place and 5 miles after. So, when you get there if you are without the wifi password, you are stuck!! Be 100% sure to get the wifi password before you arrive. We did not do this, but a lovely couple who had the wifi helped us out. Our bad. Other than our own mistake this place was legit. So peaceful, beautiful, and perfect. Oh oh last thing, the little private beach, totally AWESOME!! Just go LEFT/South out the driveway to the guard rail across the street about 100 yards away.

  • We really enjoyed our stay. The room was gorgeous, the couple's tub was so awesome to soak in together at the end of the day, and the wine glasses, mugs and water boiler were nice touches. The one thing I could critique on is that the wifi could use a power boost, it was very slow. But we were fine with it considering you typically go up there to "get away from it all". Overall we would love to come back.

  • It's a lovely location, great old buildings that have been renovated, but still have the charm of the original time period. It's a great location. The beds were comfortable. It's very cozy.

  • My boyfriend and I LOVED our stay at D&R's Victorian Farmhouse! The pictures don't do it justice and it surpassed my expectations. It was large, cozy, comfy and an amazing getaway retreat spot. We will definitely be back again! Tips: Bring your own log to burn on top. Ask for how to access hidden beach.

  • My husband and I stayed at the Zebra Cottage on November 28-30, 2019. It was a delight! We really appreciated all the African and safari-inspired decor, the stylish Art Deco vintage lighting and fixtures, the toasty warm wood stove, the incredibly comfortable bed, the robes, the hot tub which we made use of to watch the stars at night, and the great 1-hour educational tour we went on (guests who stay overnight get a nice discount too!). Dr Frank and Judy have created a peaceful, wonderful space where people young and old can learn from excellent guides about the magnificent animals they take care of, and get inspired to protect their natural habitats and the Earth as a whole. It was a real pleasure. Highly recommended! ~Sarah and Guido, San Francisco, CA

  • Wow. I cannot say enough about Dr Frank and Judy's amazing space, preserve, everything. I stayed here for an anniversary and it was truly special, a highlight of the year.

  • We definitely stayed in the best spot in Point Arena. The zebra cottage completely exceeded our expectations! We didn't know what to expect while staying at B Bryan Preserve, but we loved every second of it. All of the decor and touches were in theme and details like having robes for guests is so thoughtful. Waking up and being able to see giraffes while drinking coffee was such a cool experience. Our favorite part was sitting in our private hot tub, drinking wine and looking at up at the stars. Unfortunately timing didn't work out for us to do one of the tours, but Dr. Frank and Judy had a whole brochure of where to eat and things to do in and around Point Arena which was useful. It was such a relaxing stay and we'd recommend it to anyone.
