  • My best friend I had a great stay here. The lodge was absolutely stunning and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need. The hot tub is a great, even though it was 6 degrees outside we still jumped in and watched the sunset. Honestly it was surreal. The lodge feels very warm and has fantastic homely touches. The beach is less than 10 min drive away and there a good few local pubs around too. There is plenty to see and do as well as relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Overall we had a perfect time here and can’t wait to book again for the summer!

  • Great place, lovely getaway, hidden Gem with great views

    Sean2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute hidden gem. When we arrived at the property after fantastic communication and directions from Julia, she was there to greet us and we immediately felt settled. Then Julia walked us round the back of her house and into the gardens, down some steps and OMG the view takes your breathe away. And then we see the house! Can’t put it into words. We had such an amazing break away, and the hottub was an great touch on a cold windy evening. Will definitely be looking to come back in the summer for BBQs on the deck and a dip In the pool. If you’re looking for a relaxing break away from work and screens and just be with your partner, this is the place to go :)

    Simon2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Julia's place is fantastic for a quiet retreat next to the sea. It had everything we wanted and the hot tub and sauna were amazing to relax in. We were so sad we had to leave at the end of our stay there, and would definitely go again in the future!

    Feng2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic weekend break in a beautiful setting and great accommodation. Thank you so much to our hosts Julia and James who were lovely people, so helpful and accommodating. They went the extra mile to make it special for mine and wife’s anniversary - they put a banner and balloons up as well as leaving rose petals and a bottle of Prosecco! Would not hesitate to recommend to everyone, it was worth it very penny.

    Claire2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is really great :) We stayed 11 nights and everything was good. The place itself is well decorated and furnished, nothing too much but cozy. The neighbors were all quite and friendly. Late November it was warm and comfortable in the house. The fireplace was really good for late November! No doubt this place is 10/10. The only you should keep in mind when coming that there's no grossery shop in that holiday park so bring your food with you :)) There's a little one at the reception office but there is only stuff like cookies, snacks, ect. Nothing fresh like fruits or vegetables :) Thank for the stay, we'll come again!)

LocationSt Osyth is a small village to the west of Clacton. It offers a few shops and general stores along with 2 pubs and a good fish and chip shop. There are approximately 115 buildings around the village listed as historic or having special architectural interest including the Priory. Oyster beds can be found at the beach past the village. There are pleasant walking and cycling opportunities around the farm and village. Fishing at our reservoir (not on site) can be arranged (do enquire when booking), as can passes for nearby nature reserves which offer superb birdwatching opportunities, barn owls, little egrets, curlews and and regular sightings of the once rare marsh harrier have been reported. It really is an excellent base for Essex and Suffolk coastline, countryside and tourist attractions.Colchester is a quick drive or bus ride away, and as England's oldest recorded town there'll be plenty of historical sights to see – have a wander around Colchester Castle, picnic in the park then keep the kids happy by taking them to Colchester Zoo, voted the second best in the country. The famous Suffolk Heritage Coastline is also a short drive away with towns such as Southwold and Aldesburgh to browse around, or else head to neighbouring Wivenhoe for a drink on the quay, or Brightlingsea, ideal for crabbing with the kids, you must try Mac's Plaice for fabulous fish and chips here and you could even take the little foot ferry to and from Point Clear.Picturesque Dedham is a short drive away, perfect for walks in the Stour Valley, boating (bring your own kayaks / canoes or hire a row boat), cream teas and visiting the famous artworks of both Constable and Munnings.
  • Great location and superb space. Furniture and kitchen equipment are simple but just what one needs. Great value

  • The place was great, good location being a short drive to the beach, perfect for our needs

    Dillon2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazingly spacious converted barn. This place is a real great find and I can’t recommend it more highly. There is so much space and there were 11 of us with 2 dogs. The rooms are airy and fresh white linen adorns each beautifully comfortable bed. Fresh white towels too. There are 2en-suite bathrooms and a family bathroom plus 3 separate toilets making 5 toilets in all. !! No one gets caught short in this place!! The 3 showers were excellent. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. One small note is to take some spray multi surface cleaner though as none was provided to clean worktops, and no jay cloths to wipe with. But that’s just a small thing we missed that we always had at other places. However dishwasher tablets black sacks and many loo rolls and kitchen roll were all there. A nice touch to help out. The outside space is in the sun with plenty of seating and a large bbq. There is an amazing log burner in the middle of the lounge which heats the whole house and plenty of logs in the yard to use. Communications with Robert and Emma were excellent and replies to emails before arrival were immediately on point. We stayed with family and ventured out with the dogs on lovely walks across farmland and local beaches. I would rate this place 10/10. Excellent. We will be booking again!!!

    Tracy2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic house for friends getaway. Views beautiful, house was clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. There was lots of communism areas so we weren't on top of eachother too. The log burner was a fab touch for cold weather. We would definitely recommend this place

  • We stayed for 1 night as we were visiting nearby areas. From even before we booked the communication with Kathleen was excellent, she provided us all the information we needed and quickly. We arrived to a clean and cosy caravan. All we needed to bring were towels to shower. There were a few added extras which were nice to find - biscuits, milk, bread and jam etc. Would definitely return here again and would recommend to anyone looking for a seaside break with clean and welcoming accommodation! Thanks Kathy, we had a great time!

The lushnas are separate from the rest of the site and are nice and private. On the owners recommendation we went to Wivenhoe, which was a cute little village by the water. We’ll definitely be back

I would love to share my little home by the sea with you. Situated on Mersea Island and accessed by the tidal dependent Strood, this is a place to come to relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Essex coast line. So much to see and do, use my comfortable home to explore the area. For those rainy days there are games galore to choose from, books to read and dvds to watch. I welcome 1 small dog . There is an indoor pool onsite which is open seasonally.
Home from home, you will never want to leave ! Spacious living area with 2 sofas, dining table to seat 4 . Mains connected central heating for those chillier days. Powerful walk in shower. En-suite to master bedroom 2 single beds in second bedroom, which can be pushed together to form a double if preferred/required. Integrated fridge and freezer and gas oven and hob. Large decked area with outside seating +BBQ Patio area at side of property with garden table.
I am adjacent to Cudmore Grove Country Park in East Mersea. Great for walking, bird watching , kite flying and if you have children, there is an amazing play area which includes a pirates ‘lookout’ ! A foot ferry can be accessed to Brightlingsea from the spit between April-October. If you want to kayak or paddle board try Reflective Adventures http://reflectiveadventures.co.uk

Exposed beams and a decorative brick wall are reminders of the historic pedigree of this newly converted structure. Today it's an airy and ultramodern space with every convenience. Sliding doors open onto a sunny courtyard planted with flowers. Please be aware though, we are near to a road so not an isolated country retreat, if you were looking for solitude.
Very modern with plenty of character features - our lodge has its own parking and is completely separate from owner’s house while still close enough if you have any questions / requests. Close to railway stations in Great Bentley and Alresford, the town centre and harbour of Brightlingsea, and the University of Essex (10 min drive). Approximately 8 miles from Britain’s oldest town, Colchester, which has a good array of shops and a historic castle, and also not far from Beth Chatto Garden centre, Constable countryside, Mersea Island and many other fabulous days out.
The lodge is close to the towns of Brightlingsea, Thorrington, Great Bentley, and Alresford. It's an ideal base for exploring North Essex and Suffolk. The Beth Chatto Gardens are in the next village, Elmstead Market, and Dedham Vale is 15 miles away.

  • A nice place to stay, immaculately clean and good pool on the park

  • Diane was a lovely host, she met us at Reception and gave us a tour of the caravan and site. There was all the essentials in the cupboards and towels and toilet paper provided. We really enjoyed our stay and would defo return. The pool gets busy in the holidays so book your time slots when you arrive. There was plenty on offer for the children to do and even in August this site is very quiet. If you want all the action of Butlins then it’s not for you but if you want a little retreat in a quiet location then it’s ideal! The tea/coffee, milk, wine, games, teddies and DVDs were extra bonus’ you don’t get when you rent from Park Dean. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • Diane was a wonderful host and we enjoyed our stay in her caravan. She met us on arrival even though it was late at night and had kindly thought carefully about our needs, providing wine for us adults, fun & games for our toddler and treats for the dog! Would thoroughly recommend!

    Phil2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • A very well presented static caravan on a Parkdean site. Diane provided an abundance of extras. The caravan is just a short walk along the sea front to the club house and on site shop. Diane was happy to be called if we encountered any problems, which we didn't. Equally suited to a short weekend away or a weeks holiday.

    Michal2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Diane is a lovely lady and takes care of her beautiful home. Lots of personal touches such as milk, tea, fresh water in the fridge, abundance of towels and flannels and all you need in the kitchen , i could go on and on. 1 min too the sea and a lovely walk to cudmore grove via the sea wall and across the beach . Would recommend to friend's and family.

*Please note- a new house is currently under development next to the property, therefore it is currently likely that there will be noise during daytime hours (8am to 5pm). The accommodation is an annexe to the main house and has its own private driveway and entrance. The annexe comprises a self-contained private bedroom and bathroom (there is no kitchen or lounge). The property is located in Weeley Heath, 10-15 minutes by car from the Essex Sunshine Coast and 20 minutes from Colchester.
A semi-rural lane with a field and a paddock on either side. The road contains a handful of other properties. The property is situated within driving distance of main roads and local attractions.

  • We loved staying on Edme. She is a lovely and quirky piece of history in a lovely setting. My husband and I enjoyed having the space to our selves for our anniversary, quite romantic. We plan to visit again with family and make use of the great big dining table.

  • Staying on this beautiful sailing barge was a lovely experience,I came with my partner and son and 2 labradors, excellent value for money,in fact I thought there maybe a catch and thought maybe there were other people staying there .Janes husband Andy met us and showed us the ropes. The boat is huge with lots of beds at either end to chose from, there's a lovely cosy snug area with comfy sofas and there were board games to play which made a nice change from having watching TV or going on the Internet. The kitchen was fully equipped with a massive double oven. The dining table was bigger than my kitchen at home.we had a sofa each,I think there was 5 in total. The sunset was stunning. We all slept really well,we only stayed one night but will definatly return soon as it's a lovely area to explore plus we missed high tide as we're sleeping so would like to experience this.Jane and Andy were lovely hosts, quick response to messages and met us on time..Thankyou for the pleasure of letting us stay on such a beautiful massive barge. Josie,Mario, Maxwell and dogs.

The Beach House is situated on the Essex Sunshine Coast next to a Nature Reserve, right on the bank of a tidal creek with stunning views of the sea in front and the river behind. Situated over the sea wall surrounded by wildlife and dozens of bird species means we cannot accept dogs or pets of any kind; sorry.
The huge, usually empty, beach is just over the creek so you can wade over (bring wellies although we do have several pairs to borrow at the house) at low tide or walk down to the end of Beach Road to the nature reserve and through to the beach. Or you can stroll through the reserve, along the beach and back along the sea wall or stop and bird-watch from the hides or the sun deck. A booklet is in the house along with binoculars and bird books if you don’t know a plover from a pigeon!
The Beach House is in the tiny hamlet of Lee-Over-Sands which is about three miles from St Osyth and about five miles from Clacton-on-Sea in Essex. There are about 30 dwellings; about 20 over the sea wall but the Beach House stands at one end of the road with one other house next door owned by local people who use it for a peaceful getaway occasionally.
  • What an incredible location and house. Day one beautiful sunshine in February. Day 2 gale force winds of 70mph and torrential rain. Both equally inspirational. The views and wildlife are fantastic. Thanks so much Elizabeth. If you like to get beyond the sea wall and away from it all then this is the place!

  • Elizabeth's house was breathtakingly beautiful. The location and view was incredible and perfectly peaceful. The house is very well equipped so very helpful. If you wish for a peaceful escape from a busy world this is the perfect place. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return again. Thank you for a lovely weekend x

  • It’s too easy to run out of superlatives for anyone wishing to get away from it all; switch off and listen to birdsong and the creaking of weather-beaten timber. The beach house is simply the most perfect place to relax and unwind. All communications were prompt and very informative. It is fully equipped and very well laid out. Nestling with the nature reserve, it teems with wildfowl and we were fortunate to catch a Starling murmuration on Sat evening. Simply can’t wait to go back !!!

    Steve2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • A calm and cosy (but spacious) house in the most amazing location - surrounded by nature. Lovely views from wherever you sit, and lots of nice surprises. Feels like a proper escape when you come from the city. Very helpful and communicative host. Would love to come back one day!

    Freddy2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our short stay in the beach house. It is EXACTLY what you need for a bit of space and time to reflect on the beauty of the world. The beach is on your doorstep at low tide, and wading through a shallow river to get there just adds to the fun. It is the perfect place to read and relax and we'd return in a heartbeat.

    Christopher2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic peaceful location. Was great to park the car and just be able to explore the coastline on foot.

    Lisa2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely magical place to stay. So secluded with an incredible view and a practically private beach! The house was also so well stocked with everything you need - loads of pots and pans and plates and cups, and all the cleaning products you might need. Really fantastic, we’ll definitely come back

    Penelope2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

Wayside cottage is an end of terrace property which is 150 years old, located in the historic village of St Osyth. It is situated in between the village centre, where you will find all the necessary amenities, and Mill Dam Lake, where you will find water sport activities, scenic walks and bike rides. The cottage has been completely renovated to retain all the original quirky features of wonky ceilings, old exposed beams and original gate doors. The rooms are cosy and inviting.
A beautiful cottage with exposed beams, a modern cottage kitchen and a rainfall shower, original 150-year-old gate doors and wonky ceilings. The open fire in the lounge makes the house a cosy place in wintertime. The cottage sleeps four/five, having a double in the master bedroom, a day bed that can extend to a double in bedroom two and a single bed in the third bedroom all on the first floor. We can supply an additional dining room chair or high chair if required. We will provide continental breakfast supplies, sufficient for your first morning, consisting of tea, coffee, milk, small selection of individual cereals, orange juice, bread, butter and jam. There is a charcoal BBQ in the outside storage for your use. On arrival you will find a chilled bottle of wine in the fridge to welcome you to Wayside Cottage. There is a secluded and sheltered very pretty garden to the rear of the cottage with seating and outside lighting. This is a tranquil spot to enjoy the summer weather and have a BBQ. All of the windows in the cottage are double glazed but there is an element of road noise that is out of our control at certain times of day. The village of St Osyth has a narrow street, with shops, pubs and a café. There are 61 listed and impressive buildings in the area as well as St Osyth Priory, which is Grade 1 listed and contains an Ancient Monument. The St Osyth holiday cottage is situated within the Conservation area. Please be advised that there is a temporary entrance to a new construction development on Mill Street which is in the vicinity of the cottage and being monitored by the Parish Council. The site is not normally in operation at weekends or bank holidays. Howlands Marsh and Colne Point are both part of the Essex Wildlife Trust found within the St Osyth Parish. The beautiful sandy beach, in nearby Frinton-on-sea with its beach huts on stilts can be reached easily by car or bus. Or take the foot ferry trip for a walk or a bike ride around Mersea Island or Brightlingsea with its colourful beach huts can be enjoyed, meeting the foot ferry from Point Clear. Wayside Cottage holiday let is dog friendly and the holiday cottage is close to some lovely walks direct from the front door. There is a walk along the back waters of St Osyth creak to the sandy beach of Point Clear for you and your dog to enjoy. With all local beaches, most pubs and some restaurants accepting dogs, St Osyth is a fantastic family and dog retreat. You can park directly in front of the cottage to off load your luggage but we feel as the road is narrow it will be safer to move the car either further along the road to where it widens or to the Curve carpark, which is 1 minute walk away. Parking is at the owners risk. If you have any questions please feel free to phone us and we will be only too pleased to answer any questions or take a look at our website for further information. Best regards Suzanne & John
In our small village you will find chemist, Mini-Market, Hairdressers, Florist, Chinese Takeaway, Coffee Shop/Bistro, Butchers, Indian Restaurant, Church and ,of course, a couple of Pubs. Hopefully everything you will need. There are plenty of local beaches and other lovely villages to discover. The Parish of St Osyth is reputed to have the least rain in the Country, unfortunately we can’t guarantee that, but you will find plenty to do in the area whatever the weather.
  • The cottage was very cosy , tastefully decorated and sparkly clean. Suzanne was incredibly helpful and would respond very quickly to any of our questions. The little touches like chocolates, bottle of wine, milk and bread were a lovely welcome. We would love to come back !

  • Suzanne’s place in St Osyth was perfect for a few day’s downtime around New Years. We visited with friends and even our little dog Lily was welcome to join us. There was plenty of room for us all, in fact, it’s much more spacious than the photos look but still has a wonderfully cosy feel. Suzanne was always on hand for questions and was quick to respond. The place was sparkling clean and there were lots of lovely touches. Would recommend and definitely visit again.

Suzanne goes out of her way to make it a pleasant, stress free stay. Every toiletry item you could think of, including toothbrushes, was available and when we arrived there was bread, milk, orange juice, tea, coffee, and even a complimentary bottle of wine! A great place to stay with a fantastic host, thank you.

  • We had a lovely time staying at the cottage, the place is spotlessly clean, warm and inviting, tastefully decorated with lots of thoughtful extras (like treats for the dog) that make you feel that you are staying at a friends house. Would definitely recommend.

  • Had an amazing night away at Janet's place. There are so many little touches that I don't usually find in an airbnb. There were crumpets for breakfast, tea, coffee, milk, bubbly, fresh orange juice. There was plenty of shower gel etc, lots of blankets to cosy up on the sofa and watch netflix, dressing gowns, slippers. There really was everything you need. The garden is really secluded and such a lovely space. The hot tub is lovely and warm, we BBQ'd some food. The cabin itself was lovely and warm too. We had such an amazing time and would love to come back in the summer and make use of the swimming pool!

    Vicky2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Janet's secret garden is a lovely private getaway you shouldn't miss. We've booked to go back in the summer so we can take advantage of the pool, there's loads of lovely little touches and the BBQ works like a dream

  • Had a lovely nights stay here. The cabin was so cosy and homely and the hot tub was perfect. Would definitely re-visit.

  • Janet’s place was lovely. The perfect secluded getaway to spend our anniversary. Hot tub is amazing and completely private. We were there during horrible weather but it was still warm and relaxing to be in. Cabin is gorgeous and cosy. Bed really comfy, best we’ve slept in ages. Shower very powerful and lots of hot water. There’s no oven but we cooked everything we needed on the BBQ, which is super easy to use. TV has Netflix and Amazon prime and sofa is the perfect place to cosy up and watch a movie.

    Bridie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely weekend away in the secret garden, hot tub was a highlight and the little touches that Janet included really added to the experience. Cabin was perfect size for 2 people and the outdoor garden area was huge, would love to be able to come back in the summer and use the pool! You won’t regret booking this place if you’re looking for a relaxed mini break.

  • I highly recommend this charming cosy cottage. Penny had left thoughtful touches such as milk and bread and butter etc so I didn’t have to go shopping straight away. My dog was happy with the surprisingly large garden for a cottage and the bed so comfy! I thought this was great value for money.

    Lindsay2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Penny’s place was charming and a perfect location. Easy walk from train and to pubs. The bed was very comfortable and much appreciated after a long day of exploring.

    Michelle2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Penny's place was great. Wonderfully located, it is less than five minutes' walk from the river. It is also very close to the train station and different bus stops. Additionally, Penny is a kind host and the place was very organized. I would definitely stay again.

  • Cosy, comfortable and cute cottage in very quiet street in centre of old Wivenhoe, a stone's throw from rail station, cafes, pubs and the quayside. Perfect for a quiet escape.

    Rose2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great decor, bigger than it looks in the pictures, the sort of space you can relax into immediately. Good to have milk, tea and coffee, also other touches such as enough toilet roll make a difference! The location is perfect, beautiful walks, excellent restaurants and within half an hour of locations such as Dedham and Frimpton. Perhaps the best thing was that we slept really well.

    Andrew2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful and interesting little cottage. A very comfortable bed and great shower all contributed to a homely place to stay.

    Peter & Angela2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is bigger than it looks in the photos. The garden is really lovely and my husband enjoyed the bench and his whisky every evening immensely. The village is lovely and perfect for an escape. The Black Bouy serves up real pub food and The Station has a lively crowd. There are many maps and guide books in the cottage to inspire you. What is also nice is that the stairs are not too steep and have fantastic handrails up both sides. The bathroom is also upstairs which is a great plus at night.
