Places to stay in Torrent Bay

Places to stay in Torrent Bay
Newly built and nestled on the hill between beautiful Wainui bay and Totaranui beaches, right next to the famous Abel Tasman National park, this little bush cottage offers outstanding views and privacy amongst NZ native bush. Totos Bush Cottage is an earth building, entirely off the grid, crafted by ourselves from sustainable, natural materials, a place where comfort meets paradise!
Totos Bush Cottage is newly built and is an eco-friendly building constructed with a "back to nature" spirit where guests can feel part of the natural surroundings, with comfort. It is made of clay from the site itself and straw, using an 10 000 years old technique called cob, which many pioneers employed when settling in New Zealand. Located on a hillside amongst the native bush that is home to a variety of native birds, like the reclusive south island Tomtit, Bellbirds, Wekas, grey warbler, etc. Wether you wish to recline under the shade of a tree fern and let nature massage your worries away, visit some of the many delights the Northern Abel Tasman National park, the choice is all yours. The main building is a 10m² bedroom and small lounge area offering exceptional views of beautiful Wainui bay and the sea beyond. There is a simple outside kitchen with a stove top, little bar fridge, coffee plunger. There is no oven or microwave but there is a gaz barbecue! The shower, and the compost toilets are detached, a few meters away. Enjoy the lovely outside bath from which one can take in the stunning views or the amazing night sky. The car park is at 2 minutes walk from the cottage. Our little Totos Café & Pizzeria, specialised in wood-fired pizza, with beer, wine, smoothies and more, is 2 minutes walk away, with great views over the sea and the bush. There is free limited WiFi, and flush toilets. During the peak season it's open from 10am to 6pm, (pizza from 11am to 5:30pm) and closed on Friday. It is also an earth building entirely built, decorated and operated by us. Although there is a short walk from our little café, Totos bush cottage is a very private and quiet place, perfect to recharge in the middle of nature with awesome views.
Please note that the listing automatically indicate a location at Tata beach: this isn't the case, but we can't remove it: we are located further than Tata, in Wainui Bay, on the hill toward Totaranui campground in the Abel Tasman National park (look for Totos Café & Pizzeria), 35 min drive from Takaka. Being right here in the middle of the native bush means there are many fantastic beaches and bush walks close buy in the Abel Tasman National park: From Totos Bush Cottage you can park at Pigeon Saddle (5min drive away) and walk the Northern (and nicest!) part of the Abel Tasman for a full day walk. Our favorites short walks are the walk from Totaranui to Anapai beach, and the little forest walk among big old rimus, ratas, miro and others native trees, up to lookout rock, around 15 min from Pigeon saddle (Inland track) with beautiful views over the native bush and the sea, a real forest bath! The walk from Wainui Bay to Taupo point, a previous Maori Pa (fortified village) is a great way to spend half a day and enjoy the pristine area. There are lovely waterfalls called Wainui falls just down the road (less than 10 min drive away), which is among one of the best short walks in Golden Bay. So much to do! The nearest settlement is Pohara, at 25 min drive, were you can pick up basic supplies at the convenience store, and there is a selection of cafés and restaurants, a golf course, a health spa, and more. For fuel and supermarket shopping, Takaka is the nearest main town in Golden Bay, at 35 min drive, with many cool places to check out for café, tea room, chocolates, food, craft shopping, go to the village theatre, etc. You also have the great possibility to indulge with hand-crafted wood-fired pizza, cold beers, wine, iced coffees and other refreshments at our little place Totos Café & Pizzeria, just 2 min walk away! Aside from hikes and beautiful beaches around our place, there are a lot of activities to do in Golden Bay: kayaking, horse riding, salmon fishing, fishing charters, flight in a little plane, golf, many cool cafés, etc. If you want to know more you can ask us at your arrival but also visit the website of the Golden Bay visitor center: www.goldenbaynz.co.nz
  • Crian & Carole have created a lovely comfortable off-grid place in a beautiful area. They were very responsive to our needs as we were on foot.

  • Toto’s Eco Cabin is a unique opportunity to sample a beautiful area of Abel Tasman. and visit Cape Farewell. We absolutely loved being there; it was simple, comfortable, completely private and had all the necessary facilities, including a lovely hot shower! The views were wonderful; It was a truly perfect experience.

  • Great spot, in the native bush. Warm dry cabin with a comfy bed. Awesome outdoor bath (plus sheltered hot shower). Close to beaches, close to Takaka and Pohara for meals. Or woodfired pizza restaurant is onsite (depending on day/time of year etc).

  • Unique place to stay, really close to Totaranui. The view is breathtaking and the interior is really cosy ! We did not lack anything, even got to use the BBQ which was very nice. Crian is friendly and was eager to share his tips about the hike we were going the next day. Totally recommended !

  • Just you and the nature... This was one of our best Airbnb experiences in the last few years. It is a secluded cottage located on the hill. The views are simply astonishing both day and night. 20 minute drive will take you to the Abel Tasman National Park with its beaches and hiking options. Last, but not least, Carole & Crian's cafe is a pearl in the jungle. Great coffee, amazing views and delicious pizza. Highly recommended to everyone, who enjoys spending the night surrounded by the jungle and the stars. Many thanks to Carole & Crian for creating such a special place.

Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island and adjacent to the Abel Tasman National Park, Wainui Bay has a slow pace of life with an abundance of natural beauty - perfect for a holiday retreat. Many elements of New Zealand life the way it used to be, are still remaining in Wainui Bay. There’s a small family run farm, lots of native birds and no shops and people still have time to go to the beach. When it comes to natural beauty, Wainui Beach is one of Golden Bay's finest examples and is within easy walking distance of Golden Bay Hideaway. It's a great beach for swimming or exploring the rock pools and sandspit. Standup paddleboarding or kayaking are highly recommended!! If you pick your tides, a rock-hopping trek to Taupo Point is an adventurous highlight with an old Maori pa site, historical links to Abel Tasman and the first landing of Europeans in New Zealand. Taupo Point is a special place and is considered to have sacred value to the local community and iwi. Beautiful sheltered coves and small islands surround it - dolphins, seals, sea birds and schools of fish are often found here. and of course there are the well-formed walking trails of the Abel Tasman National Park.
  • Super location with stunning views. The tiny greenie had a very nice layout with enough room for 4 adults. We enjoyed our stay and could easily have spent a longer time at Golden Bay Hideaway. Would highly recommend the place.

    Tina2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved this place. It is truly piece of paradise - tranquil, remote, pastoral, quiet and blissfully relaxing. Views are breathtaking and you can really connect with nature as there’s no internet connection. We loved space and design of this place. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

    Krzysztof2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • The place was truly perfect. The set up with all the windows to open and views from every corner. The location was perfect right next to Abel Tasman and the wonderful totos pizza. We will be back!

Our accommodation is located in a rural location on a ridge above Sandy Bay and Marahau. It is a 5 minutes drive to Abel Tasman National Park and the start of the world famous Abel Tasman Great Walk. Marahau is the departure point for water taxis and sea kayak guided trips and kayak rentals to explore the park plus it has a cafe and restaurant. Kaiteriteri with its world renowned golden sand beaches is 10 minutes away also has a cafe and restaurant.
Amazing sea, beach, bush and estuary views from sunrise to sunset from every window. The mountains to the west, Sandy Bay, Marahau and north out to the Abel Tasman National Park, the vistas are nothing short of stunning. Relax on your own private verandah with a glass of wine, coffee or breakfast while you look at the ebb and flow of the ever changing tides across the bay. Local bush walks, including to Split Apple Rock and beaches. Native bush setting with abundant birdlife. By night stunning southern hemisphere starry skies are clearly visible above with very low levels of light pollution and our rural location.
We are located on a ridge in a quiet neighbourhood adjoining native bush.
  • We had high expectations for Al and Cath's place based on the photos and reviews....and they were exceeded! The views are out of this world and the accomodation was extremely comfortable. We appreciated the extra touches that made us feel welcome and were delighted to meet Al and Cath who were both very hospitable.

    Mark2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • All and Cath were lovely hosts and very helpful. Their place is exactly as advertised with beautiful views and great amenities. I would highly recommend their place to anyone looking for accommodation near Abel Tasman NP.

    Pauline2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding in all aspects, incredible views all around, superclean and well equipped, car park right outside your doorstep. Nice comfy bed and very homely feel. Al and Cath are great hosts and lovely to chat to. Highly recommended!

    Gitti2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with amazing view. Thanks Al for the Split Apple beach directions - we had our best day there :)

    Sharon2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location with gorgeous views! The unit was very clean with all basic amenities. Al and Cath are great hosts and very helpful. Would highly recommend their Airbnb!

    Tishtar2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay all home comforts & more with friendly hosts and the most fabulous views. We didn't want to leave.

    Mark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a find. A spectacular setting on the side of a hill overlooking Marahau at the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. The view alone was worth the price of admission but the hospitality and little touches - tea, coffee and milk not to mention a Bluetooth speaker for our music made for a great experience. Be warned, though, it’s pretty remote. There is no mobile signal but the free WiFi more than compensates. You will definitely need a car and remember to do some grocery shopping in Motueka about 20 minutes drive away before you get here as facilities in and around the park are limited. The apartment itself was spotless, well appointed and very comfortable. It was also pretty good value for money so I would highly recommend Al and Cath’s lovely hideaway.

    David2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place to stay. The hammock with the view alone makes it worth the stay. The accommodation is roomy and tidy. It is a well organized space. All the lights are labelled so you don’t have to try every light switch before you find the one you want. There are clear wifi and recycling instructions, even a fire blanket. As I said, really well organized. Side note, the foamer with the nespresso machine works really well! Al & Cath were really friendly, lovely hosts. We would highly recommend and would absolutely stay again.

Perfect place to get away from it all, the small township of Torrent Bay has around 40 permanent homes most of which are empty through the year. The bay livens up in the summer when most of the properties are used which gives a friendly atmosphere. Kid safe beaches and lagoon, lots of bush walks on your doorstep. Enjoy the feeling of settling down to a refreshing drink while the day trippers are rushing off to board a water taxi. There are 2 homes side be side so larger groups can be catered.
    Due to being totally off grid there is no power points available in the units, the lighting and the fridge freezer are run from solar power. Cooking facilities is a gas stove and oven. Mobile reception is also patchy, but can usually be found on the front beach, with vodaphone network being better that spark. There is a pay phone in the shed by the jetty with free local calls. Sunday Star Times had an good article, on Torrent Bay, on the stuff web site back in February last year which can still be searched. "Heavenly, despite the sandy togs" Extras: Linen (Optional, NZ$30.00 per person); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
  • Wonderful location to explore Abel Tasman and comfortable, cosy space. Loved the daily visits from curious weka. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

    Harriet2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A great home in a dream location. The place does exactly what it says and we want to return next year. Hope you do not book before I do!

    Byron2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place is incredible! We couldn't believe how lucky we were to find an Airbnb in Abel Tasman NP - if you're not looking to walk the track, staying at this place makes exploring the park soooo much easier compared to getting water taxis in and out every day from Marahau or Kaiteriteri. The beautiful beach is a 30 second walk away, there's good access to Cleopatra's Pool and even kayaks! Our favourite Airbnb from this trip!

    James2019-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A little slice of heaven. Such a comfy bach. Kids had a ball exploring and roaming around. So many highlights. Thanks Stuart

Abel Tasman National Park, Tasman, New Zealand

Your hosts, Paul and Marieann, are retired teachers. We have lived in the area for more than thirty years and have lived and traveled extensively overseas. We understand travelers’ needs and will do our best to assist with anything to enhance your stay in this lovely area.
We have a swimming pool and spa that guests are welcome to use. The area is peaceful and quiet - except for the sound of bird song. There is a BBQ available for your use on your deck overlooking the garden.
Sandspit B&B is set in the Split Apple Rock sanctuary and is within easy walking distance of Split Apple Beach. We are a short five minutes drive to Kaiteriteri Beach and from Marahau the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park. The neighbourhood is quiet with stunning views and prolific bird song
  • This is a lovely place to stay. The apartment is spacious and light with stunning views over Marahau Bay. Paul and Marieann are perfect hosts – very happy for guests to share the pool and always taking great care to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after. If you have the opportunity to stay, take it.

    Martin & Andrea2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really good time at the beautiful place. The house with an amazing view, pool and whirlpool are perfect to relax. Everything was perfect. Thanks Marieann! :) We would definitely stay there again.

  • OMG what a fantastic place, views are amazing. Arriving home after a long walk to be able to have a swim or hot tub was luxurious. Amenities are great, lots of thoughtful touches. I would not hesitate to book this accommodation.

    Beverly2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic view, really nice breakfast and some helpful, useful tips. Marieann and Paul were very approachable and happy to help.

    Emma2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! The pool, spa and apartment were fab. The view was incredible and Paul and Marieann were amazing hosts. They even treated us to homemade biscuits and banana bread. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend that others do too.

    Cody2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Marieanne have a beautiful house in a stunning location and were the most amazing hosts. We found it difficult to leave our little bit of paradise staying here, whilst visiting Abel Tasman for three days. The accommodation has its own entrance through a beautiful garden and comprises a large, pleasant bedroom with breakfast making facilities ,not to mention home baked goodies and it’s own bathroom. The bedroom leads on to a comfortable sitting room with patio doors opening onto a deck area with tables and chairs next to a pool with the most stunning views of the beach area at Marahau. We never tired of watching the tides roll in and out, as the tractors pulling the water taxis trundled through the surf. There is also a hot tub with the same view! Stunning! Paul and Marieann are the most kind and welcoming hosts and seemed keen for us to enjoy all the area has to offer. They were most helpful when we asked for advice as to how to make the best out of our stay, suggesting places and things to do in the beautiful surrounding area. We were loathe to leave our little bit of heaven after staying for three nights. We would very definitely comment that our stay at Sandspit was certainly one of the highlights in our four week tour of New Zealand. You’ll be thrilled with this accommodation!

    Janis2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The views were gorgeous from this B&B, the accommodation and garden were both lovely. Hosts were delightful and very helpful with local information.

    Wendy2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Marieann were amazing hosts and the guest suite is spacious and clean. They provided us with fruit, yogurt, milk, and yogurt and the refreshed it after our first night. The location is perfect for hiking Abel Tasman. The water taxis are only a 9 minute drive away. The pool at the house was the perfect way to relax after a long hike and the views can’t be beat. Highly recommend this Airbnb to all!

Welcome to our Home, with river running next to Abel Tasman NP. The beach is 1km down the road. Bask on sun decks, with relaxing views of pond and gardens, accompanied by sounds of nature. Pick tea herbs to prepare in shared kitchen. Ours is a relaxed household with a cat. Enjoy stars and river-song from the nurturing hot outside bath in our unique bathroom, surrounded by greenery. Our compost toilet is earth-friendly and outside the house. Your double bedroom is private, with desk and chair.
We are alternative open-minded people with wonderful stories to share. We are also sensitive to your needs, should you prefer to just retreat. We sometimes have meals available for an added cost of $15 per meal, per person. Although you are also welcome to use the shared kitchen. Ours is a compost toilet that is outside the main building. Our bathroom is separate from the main building, and is outside with bath, shower and clothes washing amenities.
We are in a rural area, and Marahau is known for its friendly locals.
  • Vasumi welcomed us with open arms, it is a wonderful place very close to nature! The outside shower is a special experience and there's a beautiful river just 2 min walk!

  • One of the most pristine places in the area and one of the most kind spirited hosts I have experiences on AirBnB. A beautiful experience from the moment I arrived. <3

    Ilya2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a special place. Amrita has a wonderful energy about him. Didn't have a chance to meet with vasumi but the ambience about the whole farm speaks for itself.

    Travis2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Vasumi's home is great place to discover Abel Tasman. Moreover there is an outsider bath.

    Nicolas2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Vasumis Place was simply amazing. Beautiful spot. Great Host.

    Richard2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Magic place in the Abel Tasman park, living through the nature. Peace and love

    Juan Pablo2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This place is extraordinary! He is steeped in "Spirit". The "Big House" and the rainforest garden reflect the free spirit. The house is alive. People come and go. Western claims in terms of hygiene or comfort, you should leave behind. But everything is fine. For this you get fresh from the garden and healthy energy.

    Meike2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome place to stay. Vasumi was super friendly and the place is beautiful quirky. I really loved having a bath outside under the stars. Beware that it's a little out of town if you're not driving there.

  • Great spot close to Abel Tasman and local attractions. Would definitely stop again if in the area!

  • This is such a peaceful and beautiful oasis yet so close to the Able Tasman National Park. The accommodation is nicely presented in an idyllic location with tasteful furnishings, flowers and a thoughtful breakfast. Surrounded by nature. Rae gave us great time.y advice on what to do, using Wilson’s for kayaking at split apple rock and an extended boat trip and walk from medlands beach the next day. Enjoyed eating at Kaiteriteri and marahua.

  • Kaimanga Falls is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park. Rae and Aaron were easy to communicate with and helpful throughout our stay. The room is very modern and clean and is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was very nice with lovely muesli and fresh fruit! Highly recommend!

    Hannah2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed one night at Rae & Aaron's place - it was clean and conveniently located after our Abel Tasman walk.

  • Rae & Aaron’s place was perfect for our short stay. Rae communicated well, and was very friendly. We enjoyed meeting Tobey the very friendly dog, who accompanied us on our walk to the waterfall. Thanks Rae & Aaron

  • We stayed 2 nights here and it was a wonderful stay. You get your own private and large bed- and bathroom, separated from the house. The host was very thoughtful and friendly. There was a nice breakfast with fresh fruit, bread an müsli. We highly recommend!

  • Beautiful place up on the hillside overlooking the ocean. Guest suite is very private and has everything that you could need. Patio with hot tub was a fantastic place to spend an evening. Sue was so nice and had a few very special touches, including a light breakfast for us in the fridge. Their dog, Diesel, was very friendly and cute!

  • What an amazing place. A killer view, super modern accommodation and to top it all off, your own decking area with gas bbq and hot tub! Coolest place I've stayed so far with Airbnb. 5 mins out of Town so you would need a car but you'd need one for NZ anyway (if you want to see the best bits). Highly highly recommended.

The Abel Tasman is one of "NZ's 8 Great Walks". The beautiful golden sands and pristine waters of Awaroa Inlet, and the Abel Tasman track are on our door step. Our Awaroa beachfront property is located on the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park and Piwakawaka Cottage is nestled in our back garden. We have a Necky Looksha 19ft Ocean double kayak, you can use free to explore the estuary, river or Awaroa Bay.
Awaroa is absolutely unique because it's only accessible by boat, water taxi or walking - access to our house is tidal dependent. Awaroa estuary is a stunning place with a 4 metre tidal change so the scenery is forever changing. The sea water is pristine and fabulous for swimming or kayaking. The golden sand beaches in the estuary are home to protected Oyster Catcher,Banded Dotterill birds and many species of native birds in the surrounding bush. We can book a water taxi so you can beach hop and walk other sections of the Abel Tasman Track. Our house and Piwakawa Cottage is powered by solar energy for electricity and gas for hot water
Our house is situated on the Meadowbank side of Awaroa Inlet on the edge of Abel Tasman National Park. Awaroa Bay
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we had more days to explore the area. Getting there takes some effort but is well worth it. Elva & Geoff went out of their way to make our experience positive. For example, Elva walked with us for a good distance to make sure we found the hiking path. We’ve never encountered a place where life moves with the tides, which this area does.

    Deborah2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • We don’t want to let the secret out, but ... Stay here for a few days and take in this astoundingly beautiful part of the world. Elva and Geoff are the best hosts you will find and Bella will charm you until you throw that ball just one more time.

    Pip2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Elva and Geoff’s place is incredible! We highly recommend it, especially for those looking to go off the beaten path and get away from it all. We sea kayaked, swam in the estuary, and enjoyed several great walks. Elva’s lunches are also fantastic, definitely pack them up and picnic on the beach somewhere isolated and beautiful.

    Garrett2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • LOVED our stay at Elva & Geoff's place. It was the perfect place to stay while exploring the Abel Tasman Park and track. We stayed two nights, but wish we would have planned three! We enjoyed the kayak. Elva's cooking was delicious - breakfast and dinner and packed lunch! LOVED It. We will be back one day and highly recommend their place to stay!!! One thing we really enjoyed was getting to them a bit and their neighbors.

    Matt2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Elva and Geoffs cottage embraces the small house movement in one of the most beautiful locations possible with negligible impact on the environment. Allowing visitors to disconnect and enjoy the great outdoors- only seconds from the beach, tidal inlet and National Park for exploring or doing absolutely nothing but soak up the view. The cottage is neatly appointed with quality amenities and a superb barbecue. Elva and Geoff are very welcoming hosts, generous with their time and location. Make sure to enjoy / explore the lagoon/inlet in the double kayak.

    Robyn2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was great. Geoff & Elva are amazing hosts, with great advices about what to do around Awaroa Bay. They lent us a double kayak so we could explore the bay on our own. The breakfast is delicious and Elva is a great cook so do not hesitate to gave a meal with them. The cottage is perfectly located in the Awaroa Bay, with great view of the river and the sea. It is very well furnished, and very confortable. It is a great place to enjoy Abel Tasman National Park and to unwind away from the world) (even though you can pay to have wifi and stay connected)

    Anne2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Go stay with Elva and Geoff, and Bella the dog! They live in paradise and have a great little setup and you get a bird's eye view into the local community and the area's history and workings. Elva's cooking is amazing and using lots of local produce off the trees in the area. Elva and Geoff spoilt us and made us feel part of the family. Local tips and some amazing paddles on their two person sea kayak to visit the local river rapids for lunch and swim with little manta rays. There are plenty of boats that can pick you up, drop you off and let you explore the local beaches for a day or a few hours. Chat to Elva for info. We'll be back in the future. Chad + Leanne x

  • Jean-Francois is a very great host. He responded quickly for all communications before the trip, was quick and easy with Check-In, his place is perfect.

  • This apartment is amazing and if I could give it more than 5 stars I would! Jean-Francois was the perfect host. Prior to our arrival he ensured that we had all the information needed to find this hidden gem. On our arrival Jean-Francois met us and showed us where everything was including the best of all the amazing views. He had also left essential oils burning so the whole apartment smelt divine. The apartment itself was welcoming and comfortable with everything you could need in this idyllic setting.

    Millie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is well equipped, beautifully clean and with a lovely garden and fabulous views. It is well situated for the lovely walks in Able Tasman and Jean-Francois is charming and very helpful with local information. The local shop is pretty basic so you need to arrive with provisions if you want to self cater. There is however a great restaurant and a good sandwich bar.

  • This place deserves 5 stars for every aspect. Pete is the most caring, thoughtful host. The space is so comfortable, new and spacious. It has everything you might need plus more. It’s in the absolute best location if you want to explore Abel Tasman National Park and is also around the corner from a great restaurant/bar. I honestly can’t recommend Pete’s place enough. We didn’t want to leave.

  • Cockle is a beautiful cottage. So clean, modern and well looked after. Pete provided us with everything we needed for breakfast plus fresh fruit and beers in the fridge. Just what you want after a long day hiking in Abel Tasman. Pete also gave us good tips on alternative places to visit as he knows the area well. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was super clean with lovely soft towels and a huge walk in shower.

    Anne2020-02-13T00:00:00Z

  • What an amazing spot! I can’t say enough about Marahu and The Cockle. Probably the most well thought out, clean, well equipped Airbnb I’ve stayed at. The location is incredible, Pete’s hospitality included breakfast supplies, beers and flying the American flag. So happy we chose to stay!

  • Really nice space, top quality fittings and furnishings and lots of nice personal touches. The negative is the lack of privacy - The other guests are walking right by your ranch slider and patio. Somehow, it doesn’t seem in the spirit AirBnB to have 4 custom-built suites.

Studio cabin is well located close to Kaiteriteri Beach and restaurants and Little Kaiteriteri Beach both within a 2-3 minute walk. The cabin interior is newly refurbished and private. There is now a new exteririor shower fitted on the front of STUDIO with H/C water.
  • Great little unit, so convenient to the beach and facilities. Whilst the shower is outdoors and privacy feels a little compromised and can be a little chilly on colder mornings the location to beach makes it worth it.

  • Dagmar and Tim were just the best hosts and we were so happy to have stayed at this beautiful place! I we could have, we would have stayed longer. I'd absolutely recommend it!

    Matt2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Tim and Dagmar’s home is a jewel of a find and was a highlight of our trip. It couldn’t be better situated for visiting Abel Tasman and the views can’t be beat!

    Ariel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Tim and Dagmar's home was wonderful, we had a nice size room with an amazing balcony view over the inlet below. Tim and Dagmar were very welcoming and made us feel at home, their lovely dog Nina was very friendly too. There was fresh coffee, a variety of tea, bread and homemade honey available for breakfast in the morning. In terms of location it was perfect for us, we went kayaking and walking from the local village in the valley and then explored the top end of Abel Tasman the following day. Dagmar and Tim had loads of local tips on what to go and see and places to eat. We did pretty much everything they recommended and really enjoyed it all. Would definitely stay again if we are back in Abel Tasman. Would highly recommend

  • Dagmar and Tim are very nice and helpful hosts. I immediately felt comfortable when I was warmly welcomed by Dagmar. The room is super nice ... with a fantastic view. The Abel Tasman National Park is only a few minutes away. The best thing to do is take a water taxi and hike a bit there. It's really nice there. I would definitely recommend this property. A big thank you again to Dagmar and Tim. It was great to meet you.

  • One of the best Airbnb’s I’ve ever stayed in. You will not regret choosing this as a retreat for your holiday. It honestly could’ve been a little grass shack and I still would’ve given it a 5/5 just for the view. From the thoughtful touches upon arrival to having all amenities you’d ever think to need. The host was very friendly and had quick responses. The bedding was super comfortable and the water was hot. I especially loved the environmental conscious additions. Highly recommend!

  • Fantastic! The house is gorgeous and the view spectacular. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, so our group of six was able to cook wonderful meals and enjoy the very comfortable house. Timothy was very responsive, house was easy to enter, and we loved the delicious breakfast and fresh coffee beans provided. An excellent time!

  • Wow. This house met our expectations and more. What a lovely spot to enjoy the Able Tasman. Not only is the location stunning with gorgeous views, But the house is cosy and comfortable and a great place for some r&r. For those who love to cook on holiday, the house has a well equipped kitchen with great cooking equipment and utensils. We would love to stay here again.

  • A tasteful decorated comfortable house on a beautiful spot looking out over the bay where you can see the tides coming in and out. Check in was easy, communication swift. House was clean and tidy. Good location for a visit of Tasman park. Many options ( and a small supermarket) in Kaiteriteri. Recommend!

    Stephan2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing view, stunning location, spotless and stylish house surrounded by nature. Memorable place to stay. Thanks Timothy. Don’t change a thing.

  • What an AMAZING place. Annemarie is such a wonderful host and the guesthouse is super cute with fresh-cut flowers and has everything you might need for a comfortable stay. It is SO close to the national park. 5 minute drive. Annemarie went above and beyond to make our stay special. The view from the patio is so incredibly beautiful. Just stay here! :)

  • Annemarie’s place reminded us of a Nordic cabin - it had a lovely smell of pine with a beautiful view from the mountains to the coast. It’s perfectly situated, just a 5 minute drive to the village where the entrance to Abel Tasman national park is. Annemarie is really lovely - very welcoming and gave us some useful tips and maps for our day trip to Abel Tasman. The room had everything we needed - table and chairs, a fridge, plates, cutlery, microwave, etc. There’s even a washing machine & powder you can use for $2.

Romantic Getaway. Seeing it is loving it! The Caboose is a handcrafted replica of an old train carriage, with a private garden. Set on a property with a historic farmhouse, only 5 minutes drive from the beach and Takaka township. Great for both summer and winter with a pot belly making it cosy on the colder nights and an outside bath for a romantic soak under the stars. Your stay at the The Caboose in Golden Bay will hopefully be a special experience that you will remember! Close to Takaka and close to the beaches, so perfect as a base for your holiday or as your base to explore the natural wonders Golden Bay has to offer. Or just stay in The Caboose and ... relax! We do not offer Wifi or television, hoping you will be able to get away from it all, but there are plenty of books and magazines to keep you occupied and a few games. And just to let you know ... we have children, so you might hear or see the odd child in the garden, but they will respect your privacy and the fact that you are on holiday and want to relax. Some of the feedback we were given: - Made to feel very welcome. Easy to relax inside and outside the Caboose. Really enjoyed exploring Golden Bay. Nice combination of Art Trail, natural beauty and good food - Great location and excellent accommodation. The Caboose was beautifully presented and had everything we needed. The perfect place to relax - Great spot for a get away and top location to base ourselves from to explore golden bay and up to farewell spit! Really nice place to stay and the outside bath, shower, hammock and dining area was ideal and made it even more special for us! - Thanks so much for the relaxing refuge. Beautifully quiet, would recommend to anyone who needs some time out - The outside bath is awesome. We'll be back :) Truly one of the best accommodations my wife and I have ever spent time in - after 40 years of traveling. A small space but absolutely magical and meticulously detailed. A true labour of love created by someone with a genius level of originality and inspiration. This little wonder is dripping with soul. After leaving and checking into our next night's accommodation after leaving Takaka, we felt an overwhelming sense of loss - realizing our one night stay there hadn't been nearly long enough. - A very unique, relaxing and private get-away! We loved staying in the Caboose with our 2 year old daughter and will happily recommend it to others. The private backyard with outdoor bath and shower were a highlight, and the welcoming eggs and beer a lovely touch. Thank you, I'm sure we will be back!
Rural outlook over farmlands but close to beach and lots to explore. Golden Bay is New Zealand's most diverse and appealing holiday destination. Imagine a region with endless variety, where golden beaches, alpine valleys and tranquil fishing rivers share a close proximity with the sea. Breathtaking scenery, arts and crafts, sporting activities. There's something for everyone. Golden Bay is nestled into the South Island's north-west corner. A chain of steep and rugged mountains cuts its fertile river plains and valleys from the rest of the island.
  • The caboose was a lovely spot from which to explore Golden Bay! The listing was very accurate. It’s a peaceful, cozy place with very welcoming hosts.

    Lynnie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the Caboose. It’s as cute and cozy as it looks in the photos, but also had all of the amenities we’ve found in much larger apartments/spaces (we cooked a full dinner and breakfast).

    Brittany2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the caboose! It was such a unique, quirky spot but felt so cozy, secluded yet close to town. We would totally stay here again, cheers and thank you Peter & Lisa!

    Courtney2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Lisa’s place. It’s very comfortable and quiet, a bit remote, although close to the beach.

    Boet2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A must stay spot if you’re in Golden Bay!!! Such a unique space and the hosts Lisa and Peter are so lovely and go above and beyond to make your experience memorable. The caboose is adorable, cozy and well-outfitted with everything you need, and the gardens with the outdoor shower and bath are perfection. Regardless of the rain we loved our time exploring the beaches and parks here, lots of yummy laidback cafes and bars too!

    Kaleigh2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is definitely worth the hype. The job they have done on converting this train is magnificent - it’s incredibly well thought out and beautifully finished. Ultra comfy bed, big / powerful outdoor shower and every kitchen utensil you need for a short or long stay. We had four nights in the train, explored all day / every day and could’ve easily done another week around takaka. Note: if you are planning on kayaking the able Tasman - start from the golden bay side if you want a more picturesque experience without the hoards of people. Would definitely stay at the train again. Thanks Lisa and Otis for a super relaxed, private experience.

  • This place is spectacular, best Airbnb I've been to. Caboose itaelf has separate bedroom, kitchen with stove and incredible fireplace which is perfect foe cold evenings. Bathroom outside under the sky is fantastic. Also in the garden you got barbecue to use. Lisa and Peter are really friendly host which I can highly recommend and so is thier full of energy dog :)

Perched on top of our garage the cabin has gorgeous views across the farmland to the mountains in Kahurangi National Park. For warm nights there is a fan to keep you cool, and chilly nights a panel heater to keep you snug. And plenty of Totoro memorabilia to keep you company....
Takaka is a unique experience in itself with plenty of interesting places to visit and discover. Sitting between the two stunning National Parks of Abel Tasman and Kahurangi it is truly an outdoor lovers paradise!

  • What a great place! I was only here overnight but it was wonderfully comfortable and I felt right at home in my little cabin. The view at night as the sun sets is just perfect...and you can watch it from bed. Very nice host, super attentive and wants to make you feel welcome. The cat is an added bonus, and there are some very curious chickens in the yard as well.

Newly built, architect designed for guests to have complete privacy beside one of Tasman's most desirable beaches. Be one of the first to experience it.
Our unit is bright, modern and private from the rest of the home. The bed is a super king that can be split into 2 singles so let us know your requirements before arrival. We are close to beach and after a day of being outdoors doing water activities, walking or discovering the mountain bike park it is a welcoming relaxing retreat.
We have a store that provides basic supplies and three cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Marahau is the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park where you can go walking, kayaking or take a water taxi to explore the fabulous beaches. At Marahau there are safe swimming beaches, paddleboard hire, cockling and wonderful photo opportunities of our native birds. Marahau is a hidden gem that locals know only too well but is still a secret to a lot of tourists. So you get the true Kiwi experience. The famous Kaiteriteri Beach is 10 min drive where there is great swimming, cafes to soak up the holiday atmosphere and you also have access to the popular mountain bike park.

  • This is a very modern. very clean accommodation, close to the beach and the cafe and shop, also the Marahau Water Taxi service, which we used to walk parts of the Abel Tasman track. The bed is large and comfortable and the induction element was great for cooking on. We enjoyed our stay here.

  • Beautiful modern stay. Convenient location, though off the beaten track in a wonderful way (beautiful beach alongside the Abel Tasman National Park - access to tours for the park, or a drive to nearby treks). Amazing stargazing! Highly recommend this stay! We loved our time there, just wish we had more of it!

  • Such a great property with great hosts and in an amazing location. Carparking was awesome to have (do note there are stairs to the apartment) and the location is perfect. A very quick walk down to Little Kaiteriteri Beach and a very quick drive to Kaiteriteri itself. We found the neighbourhood very quiet and the view was incredible. A very quiet apartment with lots of space and a well equipped kitchen. It was very stuffy for us in March as there is no air con and only fans so we did struggle with that a little but the listing is clear that there is no air con. The bedrooms had very comfortable beds and it was great to have a bath in the bathroom as well as an ensuite in the main bedroom. The hosts were so lovely to deal with and even let us check in early - can't recommend enough!

    Sarah2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning, luxurious piece of paradise... Fantastic views, heaps of amenities and a warm welcome. Both jacuzzis and the pool were excellent. It's an easy stroll to little Kaiteriteri beach or the Kaiteriteri campsite. With any luck, you'll see dolphins passing by in the morning...

I enjoy the well equipped kitchen and luxury hot tub during my stay, which made my tour in Kaiteriteri more memorable. Brent and Annette are ready for help always. They gave me a lot of good suggestions on place to visit and eat. Mapua wharf’s fish & chip are really the best in NZ. Thank you for all of that. This stay is my best ever in NZ. Will be back definitely in near future.

Dream away in a the comfy Queen bed complete with electric blankets should you need them on chilly nights. If you are only 2 guests and you need both beds set up so you can each have your own, then I will be charging an extra $20 cleaning fee for your stay. There is no way for me to put this into Air BnB settings so I am stating it here. This can be paid in cash upon arrival. There are tea and coffee facilities and goodies provided as part of your stay. Kitchen gear is also supplied should you decide to cook in our covered outdoor kitchen area. Come with an open mind and be ready to connect to Earth and nature. Enjoy our slice of Golden Bay Heaven! The Glamping Tent is located on the same property as Humble Kiwiana Caravan (also listed on Air BnB). We can accomodate larger groups with the caravan and the tent. This can be perfect for a bit of space from the kids (or the in-laws). Discounts can be offered for bookings of both the Tent and the caravan together. We (your hosts) also live on the property about 35 meters from the Tent area. There are lots of trees and greenery between the dwellings so plenty of privacy. Again, there is only 1 tent on the property and a caravan in it's own self-contained separate zone. We also often have abundant fruit and produce and certain times of year that we love to share with our guests. This beautiful and incredible land has been created and managed as a full Permaculture organic garden and self-sufficiency lifestyle block. Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive systems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of the landscape with the people which provides their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. Permaculture integrates people into Nature's design. Spending time here allows you to be embraced and nurtured by this natural design. You can be at one with the elements as you enjoy your breakfast with the sun shining upon you in the outdoor picnic area. We live on half an acre of luscious soil with our very own stream which runs year round. We aim to grow as much of our own food as possible. We have fruit and nut trees: peach, apple, plum, grapes, nashi, hazelnut, walnut, avocado, lemon, macadamia, feijoa, fig, kiwifruit, mandarin, orange, and pear. We have our own chickens for fresh eggs. We have beehives that pollinate the fruit and nut trees and provide us with the most delicious honey! As fruit is in season, you can pick your own straight from the tree for the BEST-tasting, freshest fruit you have ever had. You can nibble your way through the gardens and enjoy a meditative sit on the sea view deck taking in the multitude of natural smells and sounds. The Glamping Tent is a professionally designed and manufactured 5 by 3 meter canvas tent with a 2 meter covered verandah. You will lay your head to rest next to a babbling stream as the sound of the water gently lulls you to sleep. Abundant Native bird song will awake you in the morning within the natural rhythms of daybreak. We have tui, kereru, thrush, blackbird, bellbird, piwakawaka, weka, kea, and more. The morning and evening sun glow through the tent and warm it throughout the day. There is a large main door and 2 windows, all complete with insect screens. Your Glamping tent includes a Queen size bed, chairs, shelves, dresser, mini-fridge, futon couch, as well as, electricity providing charging facilities if necessary. There is an electric blanket on the bed for extra warmth should you need it. There is a futon couch that pulls out to a double bed for additional guests. It MAY be possible to add an extra mattress onto the floor beside the queen bed for a 5th person/kid, but it would be pretty tight. Tea and coffee making facilities and goodies are offered as part of your Glamping experience. The Glamping Tent very comfortably accommodates 2 adults, with space for up to 2 additional children or adults, making it the perfect family nature holiday getaway. You may also want to consider booking our 'Humble Kiwiana Caravan' for additional guests/kids. All extra guests within the tent (including children) requiring a bed to be made up will be an additional $20 per night. Please add additional guests when making your booking. Pets are allowed with prior approval and must sleep outside of the tent. We look forward to hosting you and sharing our wee slice of paradise!
We live across the street from our local Marae (Maori meeting place). We live in a quiet neighborhood and in a community of friendly, helpful, and caring people. Beautiful Pohara beach is just a 600 meter stroll away. The beach is an endless expanse of ever-changing beauty as the tide moves a great distance between high and low. It is a great place to walk, run, explore, swim, frolic, ride horses, fly a kite, kayak, ride a blo-kart, relax, read, or walk your dog. We even have our very own NZ Little Blue Penguins residing nearby, who are shy but very entertaining. The Tarakohe wharf is also only a 15-20 minute walk with great access to fishing, sailing and boating. There is ample rock climbing within walking distance all along the sea frontage. We are at the gateway to the top end of the Abel Tasman National Park (the quietest most untouched areas are up on the top end). There are endless pristine beaches to explore, kayak, or walk along, as well as waterfall and bush tracks. Some of Golden Bay's best restaurants are within walking distance, such as the San Souci Inn and Ratanui Lodge. For any easy inexpensive meal pick up some fish & chips or pizzas from the local takeaways at Pohara General Store. Aroha Health Spa just down the road providing a range of relaxing therapies and treatments to pamper you after a long day exploring :)
  • Magical place that feels and looks like paradise! So happy there was a minimum stay of 2 nights as we didnt wanna leave at all. Shanti was away for a few days when we stayed in her little piece of glamping heaven but left us clear instructions and we felt very welcome because of this. Amazing permaculture garden and very cute cat and rabbit.

  • Very cool and different bnb, it really is glamping. Beautiful yard with vegetables and apple trees. Having a fridge was great and the outdoor cooking area worked great for dinner and breakfast. Only negative I could say is not being able to connect to wifi.

    Nenad2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Shanti has created a very unique glamping style experience. Very comfortable glamping tent with a few creature comforts of home. The outdoor shower was a lovely experience & nodding off to sleep to the sound of a running stream was very relaxing. This is a place to switch of from technology as there is no TV & very limited phone service. It forces you to enjoy your surroundings.

    Melissa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic experience! Learned a great deal on sustainable living and where I need to improve. Fun outdoor kitchen and open facilities.

    Jordan 2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most special place. Perfect for an off-grid escape but with lots of little luxuries that make it feel homely and super comfortable. The outdoor shower and kitchen were amazing and we loved being able to sit on the deck to watch the sunsets. It was the perfect base for exploring Abel Tasman too. Thank you Shanti & Isla - this is permaculture paradise and we feel so lucky to have experienced it! x

    Sian2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay at Shanti’s little piece of paradise and perfect place to prep for the Abel Tasman walk (40 min drive to Totaranui). Garden and animals were amazing! Outdoor shower was epic.

    Peggy2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • My sister and I spent a lovely 3 days on Shanti’s amazing land surrounded by her beautiful trees and gardens . The tent was comfy and well organised with lots of helpful extras ( torches, anti mosquito coils, local guidebooks and information ) and an excellent supply of tea and coffee. The brook running by creates a very restful atmosphere and you really feel you are away from the bustle of everyday life. The outdoor shower was amazing and we enjoyed the outdoor kitchen ( admittedly the great weather helped) and sitting up at the ‘look out’ with the views over the land. Shanti was very warm and welcoming and we also enjoyed meeting her daughter , her beautiful cat and a variety of chickens.....

  • Enjoy peace and happiness with limited internet in a simple charming permaculture surrounding - perfect for relaxing and as a basis for the Abel Tasman North entry. Loved all of it, incl. the water stream all night long!

Situated on top of Golden Bay, Private one bedroom unit out looking the entire Bay and the Western ranges with sunsets to die for, so no need to turn the TV on. The room has an en-suite bathroom, a private deck and BBQ/Picnic area. You will also have access to the bush and creek situated on the section. Located within walking distances to local cafes, restaurants, the local dairy and Pohara beach. The hosts are always available for advise of where to go and what to do in the area.
  • The room and garden have the most amazing view over the bay. The room is comfortable with ensuite and separate sitting area for table. Conny and Gert were great hosts giving useful advice about local walks. They also let us use the washing machine in the adjacent utility room.

    Roger2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous experience! Conny and Gert are like the early settlers! They own a wonderful hill and work very hard to transform this place into a nice place to live. The house lays higher then everyone else, so you can enjoy an Incredible panoramic view, right from your bed! Aside from the the view, which alone is absolutely worth it, the stay was very convenient with breakfast included, washing machine, lots if space and lots of Tipps what to do. The location is not far from a couple of restaurants, a supermarket and Golden Bay Kayaks, where you can have great kayak tours. Connie is a lovely host, who gave us a warm welcome, nice chats, she always had time for us, but respected our privacy. You can listen to very interesting stories while enjoying the sunset. We totally recommend this place!

    Matthias2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was perfect. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The view is incredible... you can sit on the bed and admire the sunset on the bay... Conny and her husband are very nice hosts. They gave us really good tips about places to go for a hike / swim or for dinner. Not intrusive at all, just here if you need something. Thank you so much!

    Amandine2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

Our unique Flax Pod cabin is a repurposed shipping container with cool views of Golden Bay. It suits a couple, has a queen bed, sofa and basic kitchen facilities. Bifolding doors open onto a deck where you can totally relax, enjoy a cold beer and soak up the sea views. Its in a great location and a great base to explore Golden Bay from. Enjoy getting back to the basics, dozing in a hammock, a friendly weka or two and a spectacular night sky.
The Flax Pod cabin is a converted shipping container and although pretty basic and very diy, it is warm, comfortable and in a cool location. Its a bit like glamping with its basic kitchen facilities, hot outdoor shower and composting toilet. The kitchen has a fridge, toaster, jug, double stove top, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery - you should find everything you need. There is no microwave or oven. The views from the Flax Pod are pretty awesome. You can see over the ocean out towards Farewell Spit and into the western ranges. It is on a newly purchased property which we are regenerating back into native bush. We are still in the early stages of landscaping. It is usually quiet and peaceful, although we do have kids being kids. You are free to wonder down to the stream area where the native trees are restoring and where, along the stream edge, you can see glow worms at night. We also have a caravan to rent and space for 4 campervans to park down by the stream. Our family home is close by but you have your own space and we won't disturb you. If you fancy an evening sitting around our wee fire pit and gazing at the stars while toasting marshmallows, bring some small firewood or grab an armload of drift wood from the local beach. We supply wood to start you off. BBQ available on request.
Quiet neighbourhood shared with local people and local wildlife. It has stunning views in every direction and the valley is clad in trees. A very special place with lots of birds such as kereru, weka, kea, tui, bellbird.
  • it was the best airbnb we stayed in so far. :) Very tidy, cosy and such a nice view, especially the sunset.

    Jana2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the heart and soul of the flax pod! It was a comfy place to rest for a night and just a short drive after finishing the Abel Tasman Track. PERFECT views of Golden Bay at sunset.

    Hayley2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time in this "container". I would totally recommend to stay there for a few days. We had the most beautiful sunsets and stunning views. The hosts are lovely and very helpful.

  • Cahrlotte's place was simply amazing! The views were the best in Golden Bay. We we're blessed with many animal visits by the puppy, kitty and friendly chickens. What a treat! Best place I have stayed in Golden Bay so far! Also very roomy and comfortable bedding.

  • This was a great place to stay for our weekend exploring Golden Bay. Charlotte met us when we arrived and had great suggestions for things to do and places to eat. The living room is large with ample seating and the views and quiet setting are relaxing. A bit of a narrow gravel road to get there but we would definitely stay again!

  • Sea change is the perfect hideaway with an equally ideal location. Vicki and Scott are amazing hosts who both went above and beyond for us. Couldn’t recommend more.

    Aidan2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Vickie and Scott were tremendous hosts! We really enjoyed their tips about the area, the cleanliness of the space, and the beautiful outdoor space including a BBQ and vegetable garden. Would recommend to anyone!

    Ivanna2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Scott is a warm and talkative host. He shows genuine care about his guests. The rooms are compact, exquisitely clean and have everything one needs. The bed was a very comfortable true queen. The shower is great for getting trail dust and beach residue off after a day in In the nearby Abel Tasman. The common area includes everything else you could want—a robust breakfast —toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit, refrigerator space. A load of wash is easy to run and string out to dry at the end of a day hiking. Quiet with a few guests in the other rooms to interact with. Delightful.

    William2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend staying here if visiting Abel Tasman. It is ideally situated (whether you have a car or not). The hosts are gracious and the place was very clean. I very much enjoyed my stay.

Luxurious stay on Marahau headland right opposite Abel Tasman National Park, Matamanu Lush offers the most spectacular view in Marahau. Be mesmerized by the view of ocean, island and the famous golden sand beaches of the Abel Tasman from your room.
The room is completely self-contained with own bathroom, fridge and a private entrance. There is a bathtub for you relax and unwind after or prior to your Abel Tasman adventures! We provide light breakfast of cereal, milk, hot drinks and apples.
Marahau is very scenic, peaceful and serene even on days with less than perfect weather.
  • Really stunning location! It was amazing to watch the sunrise over the Marlborough Sounds from bed

    Torie2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most gorgeous place in Marahau! Located just steps away from the entrance to Abel Tasman with the most amazing view from the room of the ocean! We couldn’t get over how beautiful and comfortable our stay was! We loved the hammocks, patio table, and bath tub! Truly stunning place with lovely hosts!

    Caitlin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place exceeded my expectations despite the wonderful reviews! It is a very generous sized room, a separate very spacious wardrobe/storage area and a huge bathroom, all spotlessly clean. The view is simply the best and sitting out on the veranda for breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening was very special. It is well equipped with plates knives forks etc if you want to bring back a takeaway or make sandwiches for picnic lunches. We stayed 4 nights and were very sorry to be moving on! Excellently placed near the start of the trail. I would definitely return.

  • We so enjoyed our stay at Abel Tasman. Jean-François was an excellent and responsive host. We were delighted by the loft - it reminded us of the cottage experience back home in Canada. The view is spectacular day & night. It’s actually kind of surreal. Hard to explain you just have to see it for yourself. Abel Tasman is a very special place - perfect for anyone who enjoys nature & being in a laidback community. H&M Ottawa, Canada

  • If you decided to go Marahau and visit Abel Tasman National Park, you're going for a treat staying at Jean-Francois' place. The loft is amazing: very ample, quiet and comfortable, with an unparalleled view. It doesn't get any better than that, truly. I traveled alone and stayed for two nights, the host was so generous as to pick me up and drop me off, something I couldn't be more grateful for, since I was carrying all my food! You'll receive really good advice from him as well, in terms of choosing your adventures. The space is sparkling clean, Jean-Francois is kind and thoughtful. He and his crew are in the details, so be ready for an amazing stay!

  • We had a great visit to Abel Tasman and the surrounding area using this as our home base. It is a very special piece of paradise with an amazing view and a great place to stay!! We will definitely be back.

  • This is a perfect cottage in a quiet and scenic spot. Jean Francois is a gracious host and made great suggestions for activities in the area. We would be happy to stay again. Highly recommended! One caveat—the stairs to the loft are narrow and, although they were no problem for us, they could be for some guests. The loft is wonderful, with windows that allow great star gazing.

    Karen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, v. charming, secluded and romantic - amazing view. Narrow staircase to upper floor, but man is the view - and breeze - worth it! Also, the beds and bedding are delicious - a soft cocoon of cotton. And Jean-Francois, the host, is wonderful, kind, and helpful. Highly recommend booking this location!

    Alexandra2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you are visiting Abel Tasman - look no further, this is the play to stay! The pictures don't do it justice. The house has a magnificent view, combined with a garden full of figs, passionfruit, grapes and lemons. Wonderful scents and atmosphere. Jean-Francois is super friendly and helpful, making our stay an even better experience. The cottage that we stayed in is very practically planned, cozy and have all amenities that you need. Perfect for a family of 4-6 people. We would gladly stay here again. It's a small paradise on it's own and you feel like you are staying in the beautiful Abel Tasman national park.

    Pauline2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, on the doorstep to the National Park. Jean-Francois was so welcoming and keen to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. We really enjoyed eating out in the garden, with views out to the stunning water and beaches. The passion fruit and grapes straight of the vines were delicious!

Riwaka is a small charming town famous for being the “food bowl” of New Zealand with a rich history of growing tobacco, hops, apples, grapes, pears, kiwifruit and everything in between. These days Riwaka is a well-connected place with two great cafes, a popular craft brewery, real fruit ice creams and an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables.

  • Everything we needed for a couple of nights stay, cheap petrol station next door. Currently being renovated, and the rooms are very nice. The communal area has everything you’d need. Great stay.

  • This hotel was founded at yr 1853 and has just been renovated. Luckily I become the 1st guest after its renovation. The manager is Steve who is a nice man, guiding me to look at the hotel facilities. He even installs a new rice cooker for accommodating Chinese travelers. I had a very nice sleep during my stay.
