Places to stay in Uppermill
Nestled high in the beautiful Saddleworth hills, enjoy a taste of Tiny House living in a peaceful woodland setting all to yourself. If you’re looking for a bolt-hole, this is it! Although rural, the cabin is nearby to the picturesque villages of Uppermill, Diggle, Dobcross and Delph, all with essential amenities and transport links with the Peak District and Pennine hills on our doorstep. For singles, couples or young families (one child under 12yrs).
Welcome! UPDATE: I’ve taken the precaution to close the cabin to all guests due to the current coronavirus situation. I will be monitoring this as time goes on and will update upcoming guests in April and May nearer to the time of their stay. UPDATE: Cleanliness and hygiene has always been a priority for all of our guests but in light of the current coronavirus situation, I’ve taken the extra precautions to deep clean between each booking. This means an extra hour to ensure every inch of the cabin is disinfected and sterile for your safety. Therefore check in is now from 3pm. I’d also like to reassure guests that at the cabin you are isolated from other people and can self-check in so that you don’t meet the host if you prefer. Also please note that the cabin has been fully redecorated and has a brand new luxury bed and Eve hybrid mattress. Updated photos to follow! Please read the listing description throughly before booking or enquiring. *The cabin has a minimum two night stay* We have a lovely and unique tiny house experience but it may not be for everyone! Please ask if unsure, I’m very happy to help. The cabin has all the facilities to make you feel comfortable and perfectly at home. A perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and a peaceful place to relax and unwind in a secluded and private woodland setting. You will have total privacy and seclusion at the cabin. Within 30 acres of privately owned land, it is a real retreat from the general noise and stresses of everyday life. You might just have the best night’s sleep you’ve ever had! The cabin's living/ bedroom has a large comfortable double sofa bed and ensuite with double shower. All linens, towels, gowns and slippers are included for your use. The kitchen/dining area has a breakfast bar, toaster, mini-fridge, microwave, kettle, tea/coffee/sugar/sweeteners etc. Cafetière, teapot, pizza plate, knife set, chopping board, cutlery, bottle opener, cheese slicer, microwave, omelette maker and egg boiler. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO COOKER OR HOB. To cook is a microwave or bbq. Smart TV with some analogue channels and also tons of DVDs for your use. PLEASE NOTE - we’ve given up on WiFi for moment as it’s so unreliable. Why not log out for a while and enjoy real HD life in the countryside:) Help yourself to enjoy a wide selection of card and board games or books to read. With some of your favourite tunes on the Bluetooth speaker, cuddle up with a hot chocolate or glass of wine and enjoy a restful, cosy, lazy time in the woods. There is also a Weber bbq, log burning Chiminea and seating on the outdoor deck area overlooking a stunning view of the valley. There are wild pheasants, partridges, hares, rabbits, squirrels, badgers, hedgehogs, wood pigeons, kestrels, Kites, Sparrow Hawks and owls who live and forage in the woods and surrounding areas. We also have our own flock of chickens and ducks who may join you for some breakfast entertainment;) During the Spring we hatch and raise new ducklings and chicks to keep things fun, guests are most welcome to meet them when they hatch. We also have sheep and our own horses in adjacent fields . Feel free to give them a pat but please DO NOT feed the horses as they are on a special diet. Also we ask guests not to enter the field with the horses. They are large animals so youngsters should be supervised by an adult at all times.
Located in a tiny and beautiful rural hamlet high in the Saddleworth hills. We are perfectly situated on the Pennine bridleway for cyclists, walkers and horse riders - a very popular choice for those travelling this amazing route. There are two delightful local pubs only 10- 15 mins walk away, serving great pub grub and local ales. Comfortable seating, roaring fires and beer gardens. Proper Yorkshire hospitality! Its about a 25 min walk to Uppermill ( the largest village in Saddleworth). A lively village with lots of boutiques, gift shops, cafes, wine bars, pubs, restaurants and a great tourist information centre at the Saddleworth museum. To Diggle, it’s a 15-20 min walk down the hill to the village. Great ice-cream at Grandpa Greenes and lovely canal walks to Uppermill. There is a Tesco supermarket 10 mins drive away in Greenfield.
  • Our stay at Nic's tiny house was beyond amazing. Check in was a breeze with effective communication. The house was spectacularly clean and with perfect views. We particularly enjoyed the runner ducks over breakfast! Nic had impeccable knowledge of the local area. Highly recommend the pots and pans walk! Although a little breezy. The tiny house has all the little amenities one needs for a quiet getaway. There are plenty of board and card games available. We spent hours playing chess and looking over the view. Don't hesitate to book this perfect getaway, hopefully we will be back one day.

  • Such a lovely little cabin. We had a really relaxing time. There is loads to do nearby and pubs within walking distance. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • Nic was a great host, responds quickly and you can tell is such a nice genuine person. The accommodation it self was so special and such a great find. We didnt have the best weather but I think that made it even more special hearing the rain and wind but staying super cosy in the hut, absolutely brilliant. The views are pretty spectacular and fully recommend sitting with a cup of tea just looking out in the morning. We went to many of the places Nic suggests and all were lovely, great area for a couple of drinks and taxis easy to get as well. The peasant woke us up in the morning which I loved especially the nosey chickens and ducks.

  • We had the best stay at diary cottage with our dog. Such a lovely little place, it's super clean and literally has everything you need. The bed is really comfortable and we loved sitting in front of the fireplace. Jane has literally thought of everything. The location is fab as it's just a short walk to about a few local pubs, shops or whatever else you need. Also we did a huge walk which was recommended from the basket by the fire. The Delph circular, Beautiful scenery. We will 100%return in the summer. The host Jane is also very quick to respond if you need anything.

  • We enjoyed another very peaceful and comfortable stay at Heidy's. We absolutely love the location up on the moors yet very close to a fantastic couple of great restaurants within walking distance. The space is immaculate and very comfortable. Thank you Heidy for another great stay.

    Deborah2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • It was a lovely stay, the accommodation was really nice and cosy. The log fire was lovely when we used it, amenities were really good. It was lovely and clean, just need a bit of TLC in the bathroom as the paint is peeling off the ceiling and a number of cobwebs around the velux windows, but that was nothing to stop us enjoying our stay. Heidy is lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

    Gillian2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place all round. Felt like I was in the middle of no where however was only 11miles from Manchester.

    Jason2020-02-16T00:00:00Z

    Tyler2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Heidy was welcoming and warm and very accommodating. The annex was toasty warm and the fire was on for us when we arrived. I was only sorry we couldn’t stay any longer.

    Victoria2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place to stay. Very clean and well maintained. Great value for money. Will definitely stay here again, if I come back to this region.

Pots & Pans Cottage is a charming dog-friendly 18th-century weavers cottage located in a small hamlet 10 minutes walk from the centre of Uppermill village in Saddleworth, and 35 minutes away from Manchester. The location of the cottage is quiet and peaceful, so it is not a suitable place to hold a party. It is, however, a fabulous spot for a relaxing retreat into the countryside, with the open Peak District right on the doorstep and fantastic local pubs nearby.
The cottage is full of character and modernised to a high standard, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with bath, one ensuite), a cosy lounge and well-equipped kitchen and dining area, the cottage can comfortably accommodate four adults. The decked garden and gazebo for outdoor dining is perfect to enjoy the tranquillity of Saddleworth. Pots & Pans Cottage forms part of one of the oldest hamlets in Saddleworth, within Uppermill village, well known for its cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. The L shaped cottage is a beautiful (and quirky) example of an iconic Saddleworth cottage with many original features and mullion windows throughout. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, feature fireplace and open wood beam ceiling. The second bedroom has an ensuite shower room and can be set up as a double, twin or single bedroom as required. The main bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. The lounge features an AGA woodburning stove in the original fireplace and oak wood flooring. The well-equipped dining kitchen has exposed wood beams, rustic floor tiles, a fabulous range cooker with 6 gas hobs, and two electric ovens, dishwasher, SMEG fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine, and double ceramic sink. Other amenities include a washing machine, tumble dryer, wifi internet, television with Netflix etc on firestick, a DVD player, digital radio and Bluetooth speaker. A children's highchair, stair gate and travel cot are available on request. There is a designated parking spot available for one car close to the cottage, less than one minute walk away. Due to the quirky nature of the cottage (typical Saddleworth) the house is tucked away, and although there is a garden, there is no space to park a car directly outside; this does also mean that there is no passing traffic, or people wandering past. The cottage is perfectly silent, wonderfully peaceful and very private. There are several free street-parking opportunities available close-by for parking a second car if needed.
The cottage is located in a quiet hamlet 10 minutes walk from the center of Uppermill. Although the area around the cottage is well lit at night, the road leading to the cottage has no street lights, so a torch is absolutely essential after dark (torches are provided in the cottage). Uppermill is blessed with a multitude of excellent places to eat and drink, the High Street is a veritable hive of activity at weekends and is lined with cafes, bars, restaurants and traditional local pubs to suit all tastes. Whether you are looking for a nice quiet place to have a coffee and a chat, or somewhere more lively to enjoy a cocktail, or somewhere to enjoy a quality meal, all are available in Uppermill and all are within walking distance of Pots & Pans Cottage. Uppermill is also lucky to have a number of small, family-owned shops that sell locally sourced and imported high-quality fresh food products. Though there is a large Tesco's convieniently located in the next village if you need to do a big shop! More information on the shopping, eating and drinking opportunities in Uppermill and the surrounding area can be found on the cottage website.
  • Great stay at this lovely little cottage. Beautiful area and quiet corner. The cottage was very well equipped and a real home from home.

    James2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is in a quiet hamlet to the West of Uppermill, walking distance from both the High St and the surrounding hills. The cottage itself was spotless, with fabulous views and decorated beautifully with lots of nice little touches such as an Honesty Wine Rack etc. Cliff is also an excellent host who was communicative and helpful throughout. We're looking forward to staying again!

  • Another great stay at one of Jeanne's places. Great host.

    Cliff2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Jeanne is a most excellent host, she responded to messages super quick and gave clear concise instructions how to get there. When we arrived the house was warmed and the lights were on ready to welcome us ( we arrived around 7.30/8pm, January) it was easy to find following directions. The cottage was really clean and tidy. A couple of minor points to note were: Decor is a little dated and tired Having small children (6,3&1month) we noticed the blinds cords/pulls aren't safety attached to the wall. The shower isn’t very powerful at all. Toilet flush is intermittent and seat is very loose. There isn’t much cutlery/bowls/etc but this may not be something that is supposed to be there, we didn’t check but struggled to find enough utensils spoons etc for breakfast. The above are very minor details as we would definitely stay again and can’t fault the owner for hospitality. Thank you 😊:)

  • Sarah’s place is great, well located with plenty to do nearby and lots of lovely pubs and cafes to visit. The cottage is really well equipped and has everything you need. The fabulous shower was a real bonus. Sarah was very helpful and quick to communicate.

    Sarah2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage, is small but finished to a high standard. The kitchen is exceptional and big too, only sad that we didn’t spend more time there. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. It is perfect for a couple (although we did have 4 people staying for one night - sofa bed). The stair cases are steep (one to kitchen and one to bedroom and shower room) so it may not be suitable for everyone. It was very clean and plenty of towels, glasses, crockery etc. It is located directly on the street and next to the pub, but you really weren’t aware of this. It is ideally located close to the station and with a Tesco a couple of minutes walk away. There is a very convenient cafe, Scona, located a couple of minutes walk away too. Uppermill is a 20 minute walk. We were visiting family in the area and managed perfectly in the cottage, even without a car. We will definitely plan to stay there on our next visit.

    Jane2019-12-08T00:00:00Z

Tourists & "ex-pats" are drawn back to our pretty Dobcross village of Saddleworth which hosts many annual attractions. Your visit here no doubt supports local tourism. Uppermill's café bars shops & Civic hall events are a 10min walk & the cabin has immediate access to walking trails. The nearby Huddersfield canal presents a leisurely stroll or bike ride, with Dovestones or the Pennine way for those who prefer a hilly challenge. The area is popular for road bikers too due to its variable terrain.
PLEASE NOTE. IF TWO PEOPLE STAYING SHOULD REQUIRE 2 SEPERATE BEDS AS OPPOSED TO JUST THE ONE DOUBLE BEING PREPARED , THERE WILL BE A SURCHARGE OF £10 PAYABLE ON ARRIVAL. FOR THE EXTRA TIME &RESOURCES APPLIED. PLEASE SPECIFY THIS IN YOUR INITIAL MESSAGE TO US. The cabin has been decorated in a vintage country style. The kitchen is equipped with the usual, toaster, kettle, combination microwave oven, fridge and induction hob. The shabby chique painted pine kitchen cupboards are characterful. Across from the kitchen is the dining area. This space is easily transformed into the second bedroom by simply sliding out the bed. The kitchen area is separated from the main living area by bi-fold glass doors which when folded back create a lovely open aspect. In the main living area you will find a comfortable 2 seated settee, large smart TV with WIFI. There are several draws, a wardrobe and a really cosy double bed, all bed linen and towels are provided. The modern bathroom has a large walk in shower , mirrored cabinet and razor point.
Even though the cabin is within a five minute walk of the village centre, when in the cabin there is a real sense of calm and distance from the madding crowd. Our friends have commented on its quaint cosy, nostalgic charm. For a small charge the cabin can be SET UP for any special occasions should you wish to surprise a guest.(see photos) For instance honeymoon couples retirement, anniversaries etc. Just message us and we will do all we can to accommodate your special event. However should you require more bespoke treats these will incur cost value. The river Tame is be seen 100 yards from the cabin. Close by there is a small children's park and a large playing fields if you like a run about or a bit of footy.

  • Many thanks to our friends for their hospitality during our stay. We would highly recommend a stay - it is warm, comfortable and stylish with all of the amenities you could need. It was roughly 30-40 mins from central Manchester and very easy to find. There is a wonderful entertainment system (roku) that has Netflix and various other apps to keep everyone entertained. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be coming back soon! Thanks both 😀

  • Once the door is shut and you’re inside this little cabin, you could be anywhere in the world. Totally fab for switching off from the madness around us all. Like a little cottage in the woods, it is ideal for you to relax and spend some time with that special someone. Uppermill nearby was a great evening out, some fab entertainment and good food and drinks and ambience! The local con club was sure entertaining! Taxi to Uppermill was literally £3, so don’t break your ankles walking in heels! We will be back, as it was a lovely evening.

    Jenny2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay, despite only travelling from Leeds it felt like a real break. The cereal and pastries were a hit with the little ones and we had a lovely evening at the Waggon Inn followed by Muse for something to eat. Both child friendly. We enjoyed a frosty walk along the canal and potter around Uppermill. We'd love to come back in Summer. The cabin was spotless and the cosy blankets were great for snuggling up to watch a movie!

  • This was my first time ever staying in a Airbnb while in the home of someone else and it beat my expectations BY FAR. Often I am hesitant, as I never know who the person may be, but Brian and Su were everything I would’ve hoped to encounter. Super sweet, welcoming and provided us with everything we needed and more! The bed was fantastic to sleep in, the decor was breath taking and the CLEANLINESS was BEYOND ANYTHING I’ve ever seen. The heater worked wonders for myself and my friends. This is considering I’m from Miami and the cold weather is not something we’re used to. Overall, I loved it & recommend it 1000000000 times to anyone who comes across this place. Literally, you won’t regret it! I look forward to staying here again in the near future. Thank you again, Brian and Su!! ❤️

  • Vanessa is an amazing host. She looks after her guests very well and is a pleasure to be around. Thanks Vanessa for a lovely quiet and relaxing stay in your home.

    Mike2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Vanessa is the perfect host - hospitable, helpful and spiritually minded, with a fine line in crystal therapy. She and her place were almost uncannily precisely what I needed as ballast for my pilgrimage to Saddleworth Moor.

    Simon2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lynne and I have stayed at a few places now through Airbnb, but Vanessa's was simply outstanding. Vanessa's hospitality is second to none and beyond being a fantastic host she is such a lovely person. We would have loved to have stayed longer but our circumstances meant that we could only be there for the one night on this occasion. Vanessa's home is lovely and easy to find. We cannot recommend Vanessa's home enough and will return soon.

With huge Velux windows in every room you will be able to sleep under the stars and enjoy incredible views even while doing the dishes. A cosy extra sleeping space provides the perfect place for two children or an extra couple, with a high quality comfortable futon.
Saddleworth is a beautiful area on the edge of the Peak District ideal for walking, cycling or just visiting the wide range of pubs, shops and cafes in each of the villages. Indian's Head and Dovestones Reservoir, a popular and stunning beauty spot are only a short walk away as is the lively Uppermill Village with it's museum, canal and other attractions.
  • A thoroughly clean, comfortable and well located place to stay with all amenities close at hand

    Andrew2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, amazing host and beautiful place. 5 stars all the way, the breakfast at the station cafe below is by far the best in saddleworth, the cafe it’s self is so stunning inside.

  • Jackie's apartment is much more spacious than the pictures suggest. It is very modern and sparkling clean. Jackie was a lovely, welcoming host who showed us round the apartment. As others have said, great views of the hills from the apartment. New Year there meant we also had a fantastic view of the local firework displays at midnight a great place to raise a glass to 2020 !! Recommended.

    John2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place! Comfortable, spacious, clean, stylish. Exactly as described.

    Daniel2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely worth a stay. Communication with Jackie was so easy, the place is really good, in front of the train station and walking distance from Uppermill, Greenfield and Dovestones. Amazing!

    Fabio2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • I was in need of a happy place and Jackie's was just that. A unique, extra-cozy and wonderfully warm, modern and homely space in a great location - very well possible to manage without a car, with the station just outside. Beautiful walks along the canal and into the moor, lots of local shops and cafes (including the lovely one downstairs) in Greenfield and nearby beautiful Uppermill, and a welcoming community. Jackie was impressively responsive throughout and we were greeted with tea and coffee, fresh flowers and a big smile. We did a lot of walking in the area, and travelled by train to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and York easily from Greenfield railway station. There's so much to discover in this part of the world and this Airbnb is the perfect base to come home to. We would move in.

    Yvonne2019-12-12T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful apartment in a beautiful town! Jackie was super cooperative and helpful as well as friendly and caring. Easy to get to, cafe below is amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Blue/white decor. Facilities include tea/coffee/milk/sugar. Crockery, cutlery, towels, microwave, electric hob/oven, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, cleaners & towels. Iron & ironing table, hair dryer, Aircon, TV & WiFi. D/bed, chairs and table and sofa bed. Patio garden fully planted and outdoor table, chairs and umbrella. You are on the edge of Peak National Park with multiple walks, cycle tracks and access to local rail station. Pub food nearby (not Mondays). Detached from hosts home.
The Loft is essentially a self contained Studio flat with an external garden space and parking. It measure 15sq/m. Not an enormous space but well appointed with the guests comfort and convenience a priority
Tintwistle is located on the Woodhead Pass, in The Longdendale Valley. This is a primary transport route across the Penine Hills, connecting Manchester to Sheffield and Barnsly. The Village is in the Peak District National Park, one of the oldest national parks in the UK. The scenery is stunning at any time of year, it is a joy for walkers and ramblers or cyclists and motor cyclists. The village is small with less than 1500 people, it has a Pub, a General Store, a Cafe / Bakery, a Cricket team, a Football team and most of the usual attributes of a tiny village. There is a Fly Fishery on Arnfield Reservoir, Clay Pigeon Shooting at Boars Clough Farm, Golf and Tennis at Glossop. The nearest rail station is Hadfield, just over a mile away. It gives you good connection to the main city life in Manchester, Stockport and Glossop - our largest nearby town. Manchester Airport is a 45 minute taxi journey away, giving you connection to the world.
  • Tony’s place completely exceeded our expectations! If you’re looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, with beautiful scenic walks right on your doorstep- then this little gem is definitely for you. It’s a small space, but tony has thought of absolutely everything that you could possibly need. Most of the touristic towns mentioned in blogs like Bakewell/ Dovesdale are in the south of the Peak District (and Buxton still 40 mins away by car)- so I was a little concerned we might be a bit ‘out of it’ - but Glossop is just on your doorstep which has lots of shops and restaurants if you need them... and for a peaceful weekend away- just being surrounded by the countryside in Tintwistle was perfect for us. I’d highly recommend the Longdendale Trail (although the bike hire shop in Glossop didn’t seem to be open anymore- so you'll have to complete by foot if you haven’t brought one)! Excellent value for money, and a really cozy stay!

  • Tony is a good host and his place is great. It's private, clean and has everything you need. Recomended

    Chris2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The place was incredibly tidy and Tony gave us a few personal touches which we were really startled and happy with, for example, Prosecco in the fridge (as it was Valentine’s Day), he was in constant communication from the minute it was booked to help us decide where to go over the weekend and was very keen to help. Wonderful host and world class service.

    Jake2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow what a fabulous place in great location definitely worth a visit and Tony is a great host. Our second visit and we will.be back

  • What a gem a fantastic flat with everything you need. Tony is a fabulous host and nothing is too much trouble. Location is amazing you are so close to lots of interesting places to visit. The view from the window is picture postcard. Thanks again Tony

    Fiona2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • I had a very good three nights at the Hayloft on a short walking holiday in the Peaks in January. Tony was prompt, clear and courteous in his communication prior to my arrival. The flat itself was clean and equipped as described in the listing. I was particularly impressed with the heating and the shower, both of which I enjoyed after coming in cold from walking. The outside steps to access the flat are steep but there is a good light to illuminate them. At the price you would be hard-pressed to find a better self-catering option for the northern part of the Peak District. Definitely recommended.

    Daniel2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • I absolutely loved my stay here, and will be coming back to do more in the Peak Distrist. Tony is a real gent, and will accommodate you in any way he can. The place was perfect for me

Quiet, canal side location within walking distance to excellent transport links (Train station 5 minutes walk, 20 minute journey into Manchester city centre). 10 minute walk for access to pennines with local bus routes to Saddleworth and Saddleworth moor. Studio style with en-suite shower room. Your own front door access and parking outside the room. TV with free-view, double sofa bed, single bed, fridge, wardrobe space, table and chairs and tea making facilities.
Easy to access with parking right outside the door, friendly decor and everything you need as a base. Small step on entry.
Private room on a quiet residential street. Local shops including a post office, several restaurants, takeaways and a lovely little wine bar opposite the train station are all within a short walk.
  • This great little ensuite suite me down to the ground, With its own entrance, sofa and single bed, tv, fridge and washing machine, all the mod cons were available without bothering the hostess. Alongside the canal in a cul-de-sac, the only regular traffic were the local bikers and ramblers using the towpath. With Mossley town, a short walk away in one direction and the open countryside in the other this is a perfect base for someone looking to explore the area.

A warm welcome to folks from far and wide awaits in this cosy en suite room with a great view. Saddleworth offers the best of the British Isles. Relax with a cuppa and TV / Wi Fi then explore the famous award winning White Hart right next door. They have a gourmet menu or you can simply enjoy a drink and a chat with the friendly locals. Lots of things to do in this area of natural beauty. The history of the Brontes in Haworth or the shopping and culture of Manchester are both nice days out.
The Buttery is an 150 years old weavers cottage situated in Lydgate; a small village with its famous pub and a church. There is a Co op store half a mile away. We have the stunning Dovestones Reservoir beauty spot right on our doorstep and the quaint village of Uppermill with its canal boat rides and little shops and outdoor cafes is 2 miles away. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and help themselves to toast or cereal for breakfast. Alternatively there is a great nicely cooked breakfast available just a mile away for just £2.99 in Lees village cafe.
Saddleworth is a series of five villages set in an area of outstanding beauty. There are amazing countryside walks . There is Llama trekking If you book in advance and we are right on the wild rugged moors if you want more of a trek. I have lived and worked in many other countries but this house which I have owned for forty years and has stood firm in my absence, is still the home I have come back to retire to.

Uppermill is a picturesque village on the edge Saddleworth Moor, right by the Pennine Way so great for walkers. There are also many popular events on in the Village - Whit Friday Band Contest, Yanks Weekend in August, Rush Cart Festival, Cotton Clouds Festival. The village has many restaurants, pubs and coffee shops as well as a village store, Post Office Deli and many independent shops and there is always a welcoming atmosphere
  • Peter and Geoff have a beautiful property with thoughtful touches throughout. We had the best stay, Uppermill is just a 5 minute walk away. We will definitely be returning and recommending to friends. Thank you

  • We had a great stay at the Uppermill luxury penthouse. The place was spotlessly clean, modern and exceptionally well decorated. Peter and Geoff provided breakfast provisions which were excellent. The penthouse is conveniently located a short walk from the town centre. Peter and Geoff were very helpful advising on places to eat and other nearby attractions. I can highly recommend the Penthouse.

  • This stylish penthouse is in a lovely old hall set in sweeping grounds - and with the dramatic moors as a backdrop. Extremely comfy and warm and only 5 minutes walk from loads of chichi shops and cafes. The rain stopped us sitting out on the great balcony, which would be idyllic for breakfast when it's sunny. Highly recommended.

  • Only the best you can expect. If you want to understand the true meaning of being a host, then the definition would be Peter & Geoff. The place is impecable , the house is amazing, and walking distance from the little town ! If you go to Manchester ( Uppermill area) and want to experience an authentic stay, then this house is perfect .They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. It was like having a mini castle for me and my friend for a couple of days.... we really enjoy our stay! Thanks Lizandra/ Kathy

    Lizandra2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the Uppermill area and wished we had stayed longer. We will be planning for another future visit but stay for longer next time! The penthouse is on the top floor. There is also another double bed unit that they rent out. The house itself is beautiful as well as the grounds outside. It is less than a 10 minute week from the front of the house to nearby restaurants and shops. We appreciated the thoughtful touches such as the bread (although we didn't eat it) and cereal, water, etc... The place was definitely stylish and we could tell you they thought a lot about the details. While we did not get out too much to the nearby Peak District, we did stop by Dovestone Quarry on the way home. We definitely would like to come back and we recommend to others!

Boutique style accommodation - great attention to detail for maximum comfort, private gated entrance and garden. There’s one large bedroom - extremely comfortable king size bed and luxury bedding (750 thread count). The bathroom - finished to a very high standard, sparkly floor to ceiling tiles + a ‘proper’ shower - luxury M&S Autograph towels. The kitchen/lounge area is open plan, fully integrated with a sofa bed, reading chair, breakfast bar, kettle, fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave and hob.
Situated in Saddleworth, the secluded Craven Cottage is nestled in the foothills of the Pennines above Diggle. This tranquil remote retreat is ideally located to enjoy the unrivaled views looking towards the Peak District. Only a short walk away from the Pennine Way with easy access to the quaint Saddleworth Villages and equidistant from the cosmopolitan cities of Manchester and Leeds, both being only 40 minutes drive away. We pride ourselves on comfort, pure luxury, home from home feel and a relaxing ambiance throughout your stay. Dogs: Well behaved dogs accompanying their owners are welcome to stay at £10 / dog / night. Please bring their own beds for them to sleep in. We don’t want to find dog hairs in your bed or on the sofas! The charge is to cover the additional cleaning that is required to keep up with our high standards, after our doggy friends have stayed. The area gets good phone and 4G coverage - there is also free WiFi in the cottage. For your ease we try to provide everything you should need, if anything is missing please let us know!
In our opinion Craven Cottage enjoys some of the best views in Saddleworth looking towards the Peak District, at the same time giving you everything you should need for a quiet and relaxing few nights away, or for a weeks holiday where you wish to use it as a base thanks to its central location. Saddleworth itself has lots of interesting days out to offer, before needing to venture out of the ‘shire’. No wonder it’s known by the locals as ‘God’s own country’. The area gets good phone and 4G coverage - the cottage also has free WiFi.
  • The cottage was so beautifully decorated, a lot of thoughtful little touches. Everything was working fine and place is sparkling clean! Heating was easy to use. • We had a great stay - the cottage was spotless, with nice pubs/restaurants within a 10-min drive. Charlotte and her family were really welcoming, give us loads of recommendations of things to do in the area, and made sure that we had everything we needed while giving us the space to do our own thing. We’re looking forward to coming back.

  • Beautiful cottage in a private quiet location. The cottage is perfect for a place to relax. Short distance from beautiful places to walk. Villages and towns only a short drive away. The owners made us feel very welcome on our arrival and they communicated quickly if we ever contacted them. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Beautiful country setting yet less than 10 miles from Manchester City centre, suitable for self-isolation. This unique space is set within a 200 year old weavers cottage but with all the modern conveniences of a newly completed studio apartment with all mod cons. The apartment is open plan on first floor with a double bed, and double bed settee and en-suite shower and laundry room. The second floor comprises twin beds addition with en-suite bath. Hight restriction to 2nd floor slopping ceiling.
Recently renovated apartment forming part of a weavers cottage. Adult family living within the weavers cottage but the apartment has a separate entrance and fully contained for total privacy, fully fitted kitchen, large wet room power shower, plus second bathroom with WC, TV with sky. Walks on your door step and 10 minutes drive from the beautiful Saddleworth villages and 10 miles from Manchester City centre.
The three brothers, Ralph Radcliffe Whitehead, James Heywood Whitehead and Francis Frederick Whitehead who owned the Mill were extremely philanthropic and amongst other bequests in the 1850s built Christ Church in Friezland along with the Parsonage, School and Headmaster's house. The land on which these were built was purchased in 1849 from L. & N.W. Railway Company. Christ Church, Friezland is still thriving today whilst the Church School has been rebuilt and the beguiling Parsonage and grounds, built in the Gothic Revival style, has become a Grade || Listed Building and as "Friezland Grange" is now in private hands. The boom in industry called for greater transport links, including the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and several railways. Following the Great Depression Saddleworth's textile sector declined. Much of Saddleworth's architecture and infrastructure dates from its textile processing days however, notably the Saddleworth Viaduct and several cottages and terraces, many built by the local mill owners. For centuries Saddleworth was linked, ecclesiastically, with the parish of Rochdale and was long talked of as the part of Yorkshire where Lancastrians lived. The former Saddleworth Urban District was the only part of the West Riding to have been amalgamated into Greater Manchester in 1974.

  • The flat was well located and perfect for anyone wanting to explore saddleworth and the surrounding areas. We stayed at the property over the Christmas period whilst visiting family in Delph. It was a great home from home and perfect for relaxing in the evening after the chaos of Christmas with family. Anne and Phil were excellent hosts, they arranged a travel cot for our 16 month old daughter and the little Christmas decorations were a lovely touch (the chocolate buttons in the Christmas stocking went down well).

    Kristian2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Anne and Phil are really friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is very well thought out and beautifully maintained with many unexpected extras. It is perfectly located by the river that runs through Delph, close to the local shops and restaurants but still quiet and peaceful. A great place to stay.
