  • Caroline is an excellent host, helpful and always on hand to answer any queries. A large group of us stayed for a few days and had a lovely stay, house is well equipped and stocked, surrounded by beautiful gardens and fields. The hottub was a particular plus, can only imagine how great it would be in summer.

  • We had a great time between Christmas and New Year at Caroline’s place. There were 13 of us- 7 adults and 6 kids- loads of room for us all. The house is spacious with a huge garden, which was great for the kids. We had catering from Louisianna’s on the first night with a cocktail making master class. This was great and James, who hosted it was brilliant. We had a slight issue with the hot tub which was dealt with within the hour- great service. All in all a brilliant time had by all.

  • Hugh and Claire have been the perfect hosts throughout our stay. They responded quickly to any queries we had and sorted any issues quickly too. Red Hurworth Farm is amazing!! Its spotlessly clean and the decor is beautiful. Hugh and Claire also provide so many little touches which were lovely and made us feel welcome into the home. They really have thought of everything!! Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again!

  • A fantastic find, the house was immaculate. Views were amazing. Hugh & Claire went the extra mile with all the extra touches such as fresh flowers, milk in the fridge for a cuppa & welcome gifts. The beds were so comfortable & the bathrooms/showers were great. Communication can not be faulted at all, they were great hosts. I would highly recommend the house to anyone to stay. It has all you need and more.

  • RedHurworth farm is amazing, the photos really do not do it justice. It is a lot bigger than it looks and the views are stunning. It is well equipped with everything you need, from pots and pans to dishwasher tablets and laundry detergent. Claire and Hugh are great hosts, thank you so much we hope to return again.

    Natasha2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! What a fabulous place! First of all the photos don’t do the size of the house justice, this place is huge! When we pulled up to the property we were taken aback by the stunning scenery, absolutely beautiful views of the reservoir and countryside. When we got inside we were immediately at home, the house was so warm and cosy and there was a gorgeous Xmas tree. The house was also spotlessly clean, every room we entered was just perfect. For me though it’s the little touches that count, so to find we had been left chocolate, wine and homemade sloe gin was just delightful. The toiletries and huge fluffy towels made us feel like we were staying in a luxury spa! Oh and the hot tub was fab also! Lovely and hot and ready to use straight away. Suffice to say we would definitely book to stay here again and are already planning our next trip. Thanks again to our hosts Claire and Hugh for allowing us a complimentary late check out, it was just the icing on the cake and meant we had time for a lovely relaxed breakfast on Sunday.

    Elizabeth2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing weekend here! Beautifully clean lodge with fantastic views, a very homely feel and everything you could need for your stay! Hugh and Claire were both extremely helpful with any questions I had and I would highly recommend this lodge for any group getaway! Thanks again!

Stay in the very streets where BILLY ELLIOT was filmed COLLECT BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE SEAGLASS off Easington beach on the STUNNING DURHAM HERITAGE COASTLINE steeped in mineing history, fabulous walks bring your dog, easy reach Hartlepool,Durham,Sunderland
Complete house well behaved dogs welcome
Easington colliery was in the past a great mineing community, although the colliery streets are now privatly owned and rented out many of the miners still live there, you can feel the nostalgia of days gone bye mostly on the old pit site next to the beach which has been made into a nature reserve and is part of the beautiful Durham heritage coastline with the original pit shaft on display absolutly beautiful walks with your dog through the dene right next to the sea where you can freely collect as much SEAGLASS as you can find which gets washed up daily from an old factory in Seaham that closed many many years ago this little village is amazing, lots of filming takes place here ,the programme VERA is often here for itv and of course the BILLY ELLIOT movie shows exactly as it was !
  • The house is absolutely cosy and clean and well-equipped. Ellen is very nice and caring!

  • Sweet little house, spotlessly clean and perfect for exploring local beaches. Would love to return one day x

    Dianna2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, clean house, very warm and cosy. Ideally situated to the North East beaches and lovely coastal walks. We have visited several times and keep returning. Ellen is a great host.

    Tracy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great value place with everything you need for your stay provided and a full range of local amenities close by : )

    Ray2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our four night stay at Ellen's place. The house was spotlessly clean and the kitchen very well equipped. It was a warm and cosy environment to return to each day, after spending time with our family in the North East. Ellen was very hospitable and helpful and provides everything you could need. The DVD collection is large and we enjoyed watching some of the local history ones that portray the mining heritage of this region. When the first storm of 2020 hit the area on Monday 13th Jan, it was a real godsend to have a good Thai/Chinese takeaway just around the corner. Our Brittany Spaniel had a wonderful time. As many others have said, this coastline is great for dog walkers and the reclamation and improvements to the landscape are to be commended. Like so many other places in the North East, this former mining colliery has seen better days, but the people are friendly and helpful and Ellen has done a fantastic job of making this place so inviting, relaxing and comfortable. We do intend to return.

  • A grand place to stay for new years with plenty of walks and local amenities nearby. The locals are lovely, the area is indeed under improvement but it was still a very pleasant stay. We came so our dog didn't have to suffer through fireworks and he slept the whole night and didn't want to leave the property when we had to go home! Ellen is full of local knowledge and very caring, she's one of the nicest hosts we've had!

The caravan is very clean and spacious and feels like your right in the countryside. The hosts Brian and Joan are lovely and inviting and I would recommend this caravan to anyone.

  • A lovely comfortable caravan; clean, dry and with the fire, very toasty; even with an extreme of cold, windy and wet weather. The hosts have catered for most eventualities with the equipment provided, which made life for us very easy throughout our stay (this was our base whilst visiting family). They live on site and are very friendly and welcoming - this is a gem of a find and superb value for money; it doesn't pretend to be grand and let me remenisce about camping holidays as a child! We also both fell in love with the Shetland Pony!

    Deborah2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic hosts, lots of things we loved about the stay - the size of the caravan, the crockery was perfect, plenty of towels/bedding, tea & coffee provided, Joan asked if we needed milk for a cuppa on arrival, lots of little touches. We were introduced to the horses which our 4 year old loved! We’ll definitely be back.

    Jenny2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • A nice house in a quiet neighborhood. Plenty of space for 2 and even 4 people. Maybe not enough dishes for 6 persons. There is certainly not enough seating space to have dinner for 6. There is a small garden with a swing, a bright kitchen, even a picnic basket. The bed is comfortable, but on the soft side. Two pillows per person were appreciated. The bedrooms are all upstairs, the living room, kitchen and bath are downstairs. This is just a 15 minute drive from Durham.

    Karin2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • As a single traveller there was plenty of room at the house. The check-in process was easy and there was great communication with the hosts. There was good off-road parking and the Mini-supermarket in the village was well stocked and within a couple of minutes walk from the house.

  • Dianne is a wonderful and attentive host. She was ready to welcome us and made sure we were comfortable . Everything was ready and the rooms were clean and full of homely touches that make you feel welcome. The breakfast was wonderful (those amazing pikelets and that bacon!). Trimdon is a calm and quiet place within easy reach of Durham.

  • I was cycle touring, mostly camping, and booked at the last minute just for a night. Dianne was very prompt with the replies. She provided a delicious meal and stored my bike safely under cover. The room was lovely. I can highly recommend Diane’s b&b.

    Rod2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Dianne’s bnb is fantastic. I had a very comfortable stay. Dianne is a brilliant and experienced host. Very easy to talk to, and I even got some very welcome gardening tips. The room was quite self contained, with a comfortable bed, private bathroom and a fridge. The breakfast was excellent, made with local, organic produce, and Dianne was really on it with my veganism. Faultless, I would happily stay again if the chance arose.

  • Dianne and David were great hosts, always there to help and make sure you had everything you wanted and more! Lots of little treats including locally produced honey and wonderful home made lemon curd made the stay extra special. Breakfast was delicious especially the locally sourced smoked haddock and porridge- highly recommended! Close enough to Durham and surrounding areas with the added benefit of peace and quiet.

Very comfortable sitting/dining room. Well equipped kitchen with fridge & separate freezer. Double bedroom. Shower room/WC. This charming cottage for two boasts a delightful sitting room with beamed ceilings and wonderful countryside views, as well as an ideal location for exploring North East England's diverse attractions. Set close to the owners' home it lies just 7 miles from Hartlepool's marina and seafront. Durham is only 11 miles Non Smoking • Short Break • Working away • Pet Friendly •
This is a one bedroom single storey cottage.
We live in the country so it’s very quiet. We have neighbours close by but they are not intrusive. The views looking out of the cottage are beautiful on a clear day. We have chickens that like to wander and our neighbours have chickens, pigs and lambs. Our neighbours occasionally use our fields to graze their sheep. We ask that in lambing season you don’t approach the mothers but any other time they are usually very friendly. The only route into our property is off the A19. No access is available via the A179 as this is a private road. Our neighbours run a well known stud farm and you can see the beautiful horses grazing in the fields from the cottage windows.
  • Clean and tidy, fully equipped with everything you need, and great location.

  • A lovely place in a great location for us to visit family in Hartlepool. The hosts had put a lovely Christmas tree in the front room which we were not expecting. Although a one bedroom cottage the rooms where not small and the outlook towards the foothills of the North York Moors was great. If available we will certainly book the cottage for future trips.

  • A really lovely place. Comfortable and I can imagine in the winter - cosy. I was there in the summer and the thick walls kept it lovely and cool. We loved our stay there. So lovely that you are dog friendly. Kathryn is a wonderful host. I would definitely stay here again. Very well equipped if you want to cook in. Lovely welcome basket, coffee, tea, biscuits and eggs from Kathryn's chickens! Hope to see you again soon.

  • We stayed in the Byre, the smallest of the three properties, and it was great in every way. Warm, comfortable, spotlessly clean and so well appointed. It was just as comfortable as being at home. We stayed there with our daughter who is a final year student at Durham University and would certainly recommend it to other parents of Durham students who need a few nights away from the stresses of univeristy life. Wish we'd found it earlier!

  • Wow. We had a perfect stay from start to finish. Lorraine was there to give us a fabulously warm welcome and there was also a lovely welcome pack. The caravan has fabulous beds and luxury feel mattresses and bedding. Everything is there for you to settle in to the beautiful panoramic views with a cuppa on the balcony. A real home from home. The balcony itself does not have steps so was perfect for a 3 year old to come and go. Great touches with games, puzzles and books. We didn't turn the TV on all week even though we had teenagers and children with us. The location is superb being right next to the sea and just a few minutes walk to the beach. At the end of our stay Loraine came to say bye and check everything had been OK. What a lovely lady. Thank you Loraine and Pete for opening up your caravan we hope to be back at some point.

  • Very neat & clean caravan with all the basic amenities provided by the host Joanne. Just one thing is unusual that, check-in time shows 2pm on the ad, which means you have to be there before not after 2pm. Apart from check-in barrier, everything is up to the mark. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks!

  • Had a lovely stay at Joanne’s caravan. The caravan was beautifully decorated, sparkling clean and had lots of little extra touches - very much enjoyed the Christmas decorations and films! Highly recommend if, like us, you fancied a couple of days away by the sea. Thanks for having us!

We have a small local shop just 1 minute walk for things like bread, milk, coffee etc. There is also a take away just 1 minute walk which sells Lebanese food, pizzas and kebabs if you’re feeling naughty!
  • Samantha's place was perfect for our long weekend stay in Durham. Her place was very clean and stylish, and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The shower is very powerful and the bed extremely comfy. The bus stop is only 1 min walk away and it only took 15 mins to get to the centre of Durham. Sam and Steven are very hospitable and friendly if we had any questions but also gave us space to ourselves. We will definitely be recommending to our friends and family.

    Natalia2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Stylish and cosy - Sam and Steven go out of their way to make this beautiful house a home away from home. Lovely room and great company. Also excellent location - just a short drive into central Durham.

    Amelia2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • The house was really clean, the host was friendly and helpful, and it was in a perfect location to get into Durham central. Would recommend.

    Matt2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • It's a wonderful place to be. Sam is a wonderful host. Though we could not talk much, whenever we met it was warm and welcoming. This place is a must stay for two to be away from the city crowd yet to be in an approachable distance to city.

  • My wife and I usually book entire places on Airbnb. We decided to book Samantha’s place because of the reviews and we are so glad we did. She and Steven greeted us as soon as we arrived and made us feel at home. The property is extremely clean and has great amenities. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Two double bedrooms (one with king sized bed, one with double bed) in modern private house on the outskirts of Hartlepool, one bathroom shared between the two rooms, open plan lounge/dining room, modern kitchen, sunny rear garden. Off street parking. The quoted price of £35 per night is for a room not both rooms but for bookings of two nights or more I will consider two people travelling together, each having their own room, for the same price. Please email and ask.
You do not have to share the bathroom as the rooms will not be let to separate groups. It is only shared if both rooms are let to the same group.
  • An excellent stay. My daughter and I were at the Hartlepool folk festival, which was less than ten minutes away by car. Josie's house is in a nice quiet area. She was very helpful with local information on restaurants, parking and so on, and we had interesting chats.

Double bedroom in a converted barn set in open countryside 6 miles (approx. 12 to 15 minutes drive) from Durham city. The price is £40 per night for the double room, this includes your own private shower/toilet and use of our kitchen at any time. If you want complete privacy then look up "quiet, secluded - close to Durham" in any search engine and you'll find our other Airbnb place which is only 30 metres from our home. It costs more but it is self contained and can sleep up to four people.
Double bed for two, includes wi-fi, TV and full access to our kitchen.
There are 6 residences only, one farm and five barns, so it's fairly quiet - we like it that way. There is a popular Indian Restaurant, The Mumbai, in Haswell Plough (check reviews on tripadvisor). To walk takes about 15 minutes - take a torch (we can provide one) or 2 minutes by car. A second popular 'pub grub' style eatery is also close by, 4 minutes by car. There are loads of places to visit - Durham Cathedral and Castle, Seaham Harbour (for seaglass & Tommy), Beamish open air museum, Hartlepool Maritime museum, Sunderland National Glass Museum are a just a few interesting places nearby. Nature lovers will also love how close we are to the stunning Castle Eden Dene Nature reserve which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it is a series of deep ravines and is the largest area of semi-natural woodland in the north-east of England. Also the beautiful Hawthorn Dene, which is managed by the Woodland Trust has walks of varying distance. You can walk through the Dene to a deserted bay where you can find sea glass (depending on the tide) and the village pub serves a reasonably priced lunch. The cosy bar has a log burner and welcomes dogs (always a welcome bit of info)! Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Darlington and Middlesbrough are all easy to get to.  With vibrant cities, stunning coastline, a rich local heritage and areas of outstanding natural beauty on the doorstep, you’ll always have lots of ways to spend your free time.  The famous Durham Heritage Coastline is just a few miles away and its stunning National Nature Reserve. Packed with natural and historical highlights around every headland, it is a great place to explore and enjoy the fresh sea air. The popular coastal town of Seaham is a 15 minute drive away.  The North York Moors National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty both make fantastic days out and are both easy to get to.
  • Lovely space and Pauline and Bill were very welcoming and ensured our short stay was perfect. Couldn’t have asked for more. Great location, not too far from the city and lots of piece and quiet.

    Cassy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a scerene stay out in the country side. Pauline and Bill were very accommodating and made us feel very welcome and free to relax. The place is modern and sparkling clean. There were lots of thoughtful touches they had made such as providing milk and proper coffee, and beautifully smelling Body Shop soaps in the bathroom. The place was about 15 mins to Durham by car and even closer to the coast. There is a traditional old pub and restaurant about 1km away which had decent looking food, two mains for only £16. We would highly recommend staying with Pauline and Bill.

    Michaela2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hosting doesn’t come naturally to a lot of people but Bill is a natural host and goes above and beyond. We loved staying with them and when circumstances threatened our stay they did all they could to accommodate us. Cannot rate them high enough! We will be back!!

  • A gem of a place to stay. Pauline and Bill were fabulous hosts, the room is lovely and spotless and for someone with a dog, direct access to the garden and a huge field to walk in were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and Maddie and I were made very welcome.

Covid19 has stopped play. You can cancel and be refunded in full. Hopefully we will see you again when this is all over. 2double bedrooms, one with 2 single beds. Floor mattress & travel cot if needed. Bathroom with bath & shower. Living room has a 2 & 3 seater sofa. smart TV, & wifi. Dining Room has a table 5 chairs, desk & high chair. Fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, oven & microwave etc. Washing machine & dryer available. Yard, secure garden & off road parking at the rear of house.
This is a self check in deceptively large 3 bedroom 4 bed (2 singles and 3 doubles), plus 1 floor mattress and a large sofa. There's a travel cot if needed. The living room has two leather sofas, a gas fire, SMART TV, TV package, Netfix, Nintendo Wii and free wifi. The separate dining room has a wonderful fireplace, desk space, dining table and 5 chairs (6th upstairs if needed) and a vintage high chair. There is also a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs (can be moved if needed). Some children's toys and family games are available in the dining room cupboard. Off the dining is a fully equipped kitchen featuring fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and lots of pots, pans and other essential items. We always leave tea, coffee, fresh milk and essential items such as oil, vinegar and salt. The ground floor has hard wooden floors. Stairs with new carpets (please leave outdoor shoes in the shoe basket by the stairs) lead to the first and second floors. First floor has a spacious master bedroom (double with wardrobes and dressing table), the blue room (double with drawers) and a bathroom with toilet, bath and shower and toiletries. The second floor has twin single beds with a wardrobe. There is a spare single mattress in the upstairs cupboard should guests not want to share a double bed or you have a 7th guest. The house is in High Pittington. It has a village shop open until 8pm, an Indian takeaway, a great little bistro Citron Vert, Halgarth Manor Hotel with pub, The Blacksmith Arms in Low Pittington and fabulous countryside for dogs, walks and cycling. Ramside Hall, Spa and golf resort is only 2.5 miles away. There are two buses an hour (daytime) to Durham. The house has private parking at the back and street parking at the front. There is a secure back garden should the weather be nice enough for you to use. There are 2 bikes and an archery set in the shed but we'd need notice if they are required. We keep our rental price low to keep bookings high, please don't assume that a low price reflects low quality - this house is my home but I'm travelling. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It's not a hotel and you will find a pen or screwdriver, toiletries, needle and cotton, cooking oil etc in the cupboards and drawers if needed. Please help yourself and feel at home. The neighbours are friendly but not intrusive. I have bought good quality mattresses, linen and towels to help with the comfort factor. Please note though we do charge for extra guests over two - it's fair and reasonable as our work increases with more guests staying. Overall, it's a great place to stay if you're working in the area, attending a wedding at Halgarth Manor or playing golf or attending a wedding at Ramside Hall. (Durham 5 miles, Sunderland 10 miles, Newcastle 15 miles) with the A690 and A1M just over a mile away for easy access. If we're booked for the dates you need, we also have a 2 bedroomed dog friendly flat in Washington about 8 miles away that is also smart, clean comfortable and with equally low nightly rates. We are also happy to negotiate you bringing your well behaved dogs. Please contact us to discuss this before booking.
Small friendly village with great pub, hotel, takeaway, village store and excellent bistro. A short distance is Homer Hill farm shop, butchers and cafe. It's just 5 miles to Durham but set in countryside.
  • Clean and cosy would definitely stay here again .

Where to start! Situated 7 miles from Durham, 12 to 15 minutes by car. The views are great, the Loft is located in the middle of farmland at the end of a single lane track, completed November 2018 it is half a mile from the nearest road = ZERO traffic noise. The headroom is kind of tight along the two sides but, at 6 feet tall I manage okay. Ideal for two, but can easily cope with 4 people with an excellent IKEA full size sofa bed in the lounge. The Loft is accessed by external concrete steps.
40" Samsung TV, Fridge with freezer box, Combi microwave, kettle & toaster. We're open to suggestions too, what would you expect to find in a place such as this, let us know...
There are only 6 properties here, one farmhouse and five converted barns. There are no street lights - it's great! • Gorgeous, modern and clean. We loved it and couldn’t fault any aspect of our stay. Lovely hosts, very private. Our little girl loved looking out of the window at the scenery and running around the open plan space. Perfect location for sea glass hunting in nearby Seaham. Thank you both so much.

  • We were attending a wedding in Shadforth and needed somewhere to stay for the night due to it being pretty far from home. We stayed in Hay Loft which was just a short trip along the road. 5 minutes after booking we got a welcoming message from Pauline and Bill letting us know exactly how to get to the property. Nothing was a bother for these lovely hosts, we asked if we could check in a little early to get ready for the wedding and it was accepted without issue. On arriving Bill welcomed us and showed us to the room which was absolutely immaculate. Bill was kind enough to offer us a lift along to the wedding to save us leaving our car there, what a gentleman! Could not reccomend this place enough for anyone looking to stay in the area and Pauline and Bill were brilliant, hope to see you again in the future, thanks!

WITH NO CLEANING FEES this traditional terraced property in a former mining village is approximately twenty minutes by car from Durham, Sunderland and Hartlepool. In a quiet area only metres from the National Cycle track it is fully furnished with bath and shower over, 2 double bedrooms upstairs, one with king size bed one with 2 single beds. There is a small double sofa bed in lounge, two Z beds are also available, Lounge, modern kitchen. Parking at door. Wi-Fi. https://www.thisisdurham.com/
Whole house and rear yard. If you're cycling we have a lockable shed but have no objection to clean bikes being stored in the kitchen area overnight. There’s a lock box with a code to access the key
A safe quiet location in this former Durham pit village. This property is 2 minutes by car from Shotton Airfield and the Parachute Club. Castle Eden Dene is also close by with beautiful walks to the beach at Horden on the Durham coast. The Three Rivers Cycle Route from Haswell to Hartlepool (National Route 14) is only metres from your door. You are close to Easington – Billy Elliot country, if you've seen the film then take a short car ride through the colliery and see how many locations you can spot from the original movie. The Durham Heritage Coast is about six minutes by car. There is a “history footpath” from the car park at Easington Colliery leading up to the “cage” on the hill. The cage was originally used to take miners underground and serves as a reminder of the Colliery's past. Food - Indian, Italian and Chinese restaurants can be found in Seaham, Hartlepool, Durham and the surrounding area. There are loads of take-away fast food providers nearby who will deliver for a nominal fee, we have a selection of menus in the house. Places to visit nearby include Durham City and The Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin and Saint Cuthbert of Durham usually known as Durham Cathedral and home of the Shrine of Saint Cuthbert. There are beautiful walks along the river side at Durham, you can start your walk, follow the loop around the base of the castle and cathedral and end up almost where you started. We like the 10 hectare University Botanic Garden which is set amongst beautiful mature woodlands on the southern outskirts of Durham city and the Oriental Museum nearby. At Seaham Harbour you will see “Tommy”. Standing at 9 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 1.2 tonnes this is a truly amazing and moving statue dedicated to WW1 soldiers. The artist, Ray Lonsdale, has captured every detail down to the veins in Tommy's hands. Seaham is also famous for its “Sea Glass”, we've met people from California, Canada and Hungary on the beach looking for the stuff. The "Look Out" in the marina is a great place for a cup of coffee with great views of the famous Seaham lighthouse and beyond... Nearby, Sunderland has a museum (free entry) dedicated to the region and just over the River Wear you will find the National Glass Museum (free entry) that gives live glass blowing demonstrations throughout the day. Hartlepool Marina is an easy to reach location for food and a stroll. The National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool is based at Jackson Dock, where you can also see HMS Trincomalee, the oldest British warship still afloat. • Great communication. We didn’t need to use them but the tea and coffee and bathroom products being available were a nice touch. Lovely to have fresh milk left ready for our arrival.
