Staying at Castello Macchiaroli was truly one of the most unforgettable experiences of our entire trip to Italy. The castle itself is breathtaking—steeped in over a thousand years of history, yet so warm and welcoming that it instantly felt like home. Gisella was a wonderful host—so kind, thoughtful, and easy to communicate with. And Paola… what a gem! Her private tour through the castle was fascinating, personal, and full of charm. Exploring ancient tunnels and seeing the castle’s legacy was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Relaxing by the fireplace, surrounded by history, was nothing short of magical. We left feeling like we’d stepped inside a fairytale. If you’re looking for something truly unique and soul-stirring, this is it. We were guests of Claudio and Giuseppina for only one night, but we had a really great time, everything was perfect, from the moment we arrived at the property to when we left, the welcome was excellent, Giuseppina also gave us information on things to visit in the surroundings, she showed us everything that was available in the house and was extremely helpful for any need (for the breakfast the next day she asked us what we wanted and since I am celiac she prepared a really good gluten-free apple cake); The apartment was as in the photos, clean, tidy, spacious and really well maintained, there was every kind of appliance that could also be used for a longer stay, in fact as soon as possible we will definitely return for a longer period, perhaps in the winter period.

This is a beautiful property with breathtaking views. Grazia was a super friendly host with great communication and she went above and beyond, offering us plenty of local recommendations too. I’d really recommend people experience staying here!

Maria’s home was perfect, beautiful location, immaculate, beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything you will need. The bed was comfortable and the view from the bedroom balcony was heavenly - especially first thing in a morning when you open the doors to mist settling over the mountains and the silent ancient town below. The rooftop terrace also offers amazing views and is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing. Tortorella is a hidden gem, a town where time has stood still for many years, come evening the area is literally silent. Incredibly peaceful, the most authentic rural Italian experience you’re ever likely to find. Maria was so much more than an airb&b host, she went above and beyond to make our stay special, introducing us to the lovely locals and even acting as a personal tour guide on our final evening. Always available for advice and recommendations. This is a trip we will never forget and we will definitely return.
