The Upper House Hotel in Barlaston is a beautiful, historic, country house hotel which used to be the home of Emma Wedgwood, who married Charles Darwin. It has a small, intimate restaurant overlooking beautiful woodlands. The chef there is superb and the meals are second to none but moreover, very good value for what you get. They also offer afternoon tea in the conservatory. There are often weddings held there so do remember to check if there's one being held on the day you plan to go as it tends to lose it's quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
