The owner of the house is Ueno, a Japanese female artist/painter. Her paintings from the 1980s are still preserved in the house, and Japanese architecture and art complement each other in every corner of the house, which we still admire today. Nakamachi, where the Machiya "Fang no Kado" is located, is coincidentally the site of the Heian-kyo "Dai Gokuden". A thousand years ago, the Emperor sat on the high throne of the Great Hall to receive courtiers and foreign envoys. Today, the Daikoku Hall is the only remaining site, and the surrounding area has evolved into a commercial and residential area. There is a bus stop 1 minute walk from the house and JR/subway station 10 minutes walk, with easy access to all attractions in Kyoto. Within 1-10 minutes walk, there are 24-hour Lawson/711 convenience stores, drug stores, fruit and vegetable stores, meat stores, seafood stores, restaurants (Kyoto cuisine, sushi, tempura, ramen, eel rice, izakaya, Japanese curry, bakery, etc.), life is very convenient. While the house was renovated, the original traditional wooden hollow building structure was retained and modern kitchen and bathroom facilities were added. Antique stained glass, Noguchi-designed paper lamps, queen bed room are Simmons mattress and Muji bedding, the bedding in the tatami room is based on the opinions of previous guests, especially the thick mattress, I hope you can rest more comfortably and have a pleasant stay. This 100-year-old traditional Japanese machiya house once served as a Kimono textile factory. Craftsmen used traditional wooden weaving looms to create kimono fabrics, which are still displayed on the 1F. This house preserves its Kyoto-style charm with its high ceilings, wooden beams, and tatami rooms. The 1F includes a tatami room, renovated bathroom with a wooden bath, and a washing machine. Upstairs is another tatami room, a modern kitchen, additional shower and toilet, and a dining room.
