Family-friendly holiday rentals in Maizuru

Koji and Eri’s machiya is quite a special place! They expertly and tastefully restored an abandoned piece of history into a refined and peaceful place to stay in Kyoto. Eri personally welcomed us and showed us the house and they went out of their way to make sure our time in Kyoto was easy and enjoyable! The ofuro alone is worth it!

We had a fantastic stay in Kyoto as a family of four. The location was ideal—just a short walk to the train station and 7-11, which made getting around and grabbing essentials super easy. The house itself had so much space, with separate upstairs and downstairs areas, and the deep spa bath was a real treat after long days exploring. The tech throughout the house was impressive and made everything really convenient. Most of all, our host was absolutely lovely—going above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable. Highly recommend!

The house was lovely and we enjoyed staying surrounded by locals. Our host communicated with me as needed and we were very happy with every aspect.

Great location! Nishiki market was a 2 minute walk. Family mart was just around the corner. Everything was close and convenient. We love the free refreshments and some nice gifts when we arrived. We love it so much we’re already planning my next trip. LOL

The house offers an authentic experience of a traditional Japanese home. Spacious, has spaces for guest room, living room, kitchen, bedroom, storage, dressing and a cute little backyard. Loved the bathroom amenities and enjoyed the bathing tub. The hosts were very kind and waited for us to arrive. They welcomed us in and walked us through all the amenities and operations in the house. They also showed us bus routes to all the popular Kyoto spots laid out on a map. They even provided a bike for our grocery runs etc. Everything we ended up needing was in the house, like umbrellas, full-length mirror, extra stools, washer-dryer. The backyard is smoking-friendly. Overall, very happy that we decided to stay at this property.

Place is very spacious, very clean and good air conditioner. Very comfortable bedding. Shower is plenty big. If you are 6ft or over you’ll need to occasionally duck but tat all over Japan. It’s definitely not a problem. Way better than staying in a hotel as I could sneak downstairs as I am always up before my family and could get work done before activities. Cabs and Ubers go right by, 7-11 is baseball throw away and an excellent I Indian restaurant on the corner. If you have a kid who wants McDonald’s it’s right there too. You’ll have to take a cab or Uber unless you want to walk 20 minutes to things but as I said they are readily available and only cost $10. Highly recommend super spacious and I felt a much better option for us than a small hotel room. Also it had a good washer for clothes.

A very comfortable and quiet area, conveniently close to Kyoto Station. If you don’t have too much luggage, it’s just a 15-minute walk—or one stop by train. Great value for money, very cozy. Highly recommended!

Our family of 6, including 2 kids, loved the location for its proximity to the bamboo forest and Arashiyama shopping area. The space was immaculately clean and hosts even turned on the living room AC for our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked and my son loved having video games to play. The bicycles were a great way to go see some temples. One warning is because it’s such a residential area, it seemed like many restaurants closed early so we got stuck eating konbini dinner one of the nights - our fault!

We had a good stay. Mineral noise since it was in a residential area. Walkable to public transit and Nishiki Market. AC was very good. Washer and dryer worked well for small loads.

Totally recommend staying here. It’s at a great location. Right in front of a 711 and right next to a really good restaurant. Mio is a very nice person. Thank you for the stay we loved it

We had a wonderful stay at the Cozy Cottage. The house was very clean and spacious. For us, the best part was the location. It truly felt like we were locals living in the community where Cozy Cottage is located. All of the staff were also very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time, and the stay definitely made our time in Kyoto extra special. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace in Kyoto.

Nice house in a quiet neighborhood. Location gives fantastic access to the city through the Green Line (Karasuma). Easy to access from Kyoto Station shinkansen. Less than ten minute walk to the Aeon Mall. All facilities in working order. The washing machine is very useful in extending the usefulness of your carried clothing.

We loved our stay at Yamano’s place. The neighborhood was beautiful and quiet, but it was just a short walk to the river, bus stop, and train station. The hosts were extremely responsive and kind. They met us at check in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They also sent suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area.

I can’t say enough great things about Uzu’s place. It was so clean and comfortable. When we checked in she was very thorough about the house and also about the surrounding areas and places to go. She had a great hand drawn map of the area that we actually used a lot! The traditional beds we chose to sleep in were very comfortable. Everything in the house is labeled which makes it very easy to find things. Uzu went out of her way to show us local restaurants and spots to try. She is a very friendly host that cares about making her guests stays very enjoyable! One thing we found was that it was a bit out of the way of central Kyoto. However, if you want to experience a quiet traditional neighborhood this is the spot! It’s about a 10 min walk to the closest train station or bus stop. We stayed with 3 families of 12 people, but there were plenty of beds and we were able to relax!It was great to have a BBQ even though it was raining!

This house is lovely awesome and perfectly clean. Our stay was wonderful and more worth the price. The private onsen inside the tiny Japanese garden is beautiful. The location is very quiet, near the river and less 5 minutes by walk from the station and konbini. Everything you need is provided inside the house, so you don’t have to worry about

We stayed in Naoyuki's property for 4 days and loved the stay. The room with 4 futons was amazing and very traditional with Japanese decors. The proximity to the bus stop and tram/train station was extremely convenient in terms of transportation. The stay was as warm and cozy as Kyoto.

I wish I could’ve stayed longer ! Everything was perfect during my stay, it’s a very peaceful and quiet place, and we’re not too far from the center of Kyoto It was my first time sleeping on a futon and this is honestly very comfortable ! I’ve got welcomed by Mrs. T (I don’t know if I’m allowed to say her name in the review), she was so sweet and kind, she showed me some food recommendations, and brought my breakfast in the morning Thank you so much again for having me, and I hope to come back soon ! ☺️

Excellent place for a family. My teenager had his own small room away from us. Super comfy bed, really spacious and nice. Convenient to 2 different transportation lines. Extremely quiet and safe.

Tatsuya was a great host and even gave us a ride to and from the station.

I had the pleasure of staying here about eight years ago and everything was perfect again! Great location across the street from a gorgeous Kyoto icon, Toji Temple, nice and close to public transportation including the city’s mega train station, and wonderful, gracious hospitality from the host. One of my favorite Airbnb stays ever!

This was by far our favorite place to stay in all of Japan! The traditional style of the home was an amazing experience. I will never get over this airbnb! Not far from the bus and had amazing views of the temple! 😇😇😇
