Beachfront holiday rental in Matara

We had a fantastic 10-day break at this beautiful villa. The setting is amazing, overlooking the infinity of the Indian Ocean, with the calming sound of the crashing waves. The sea was too rough for a swim but the beach was perfect for a walk. The garden is lovely, the pool is a welcome escape from the heat and the house itself is spacious enough for everyone not to be in each other's way. We had so much fun during our stay - massages in the garden, wandering the neighbourhood and meeting the locals, visiting nearby beaches (Dickwella beach was our favourite, especially with young kids), safari, releasing baby turtles in the sea, boat trips, etc.... Last but certainly not least - the lovely staff. The hospitality offered by Suneetha, Ajith and Ari was truly special. They are all lovely and looked after us so well. Apart from the delicious food they prepared daily, they arranged our trips, transport, etc. It was hard to leave and tears were shed at the end. We'll be back, for sure!

We had the most incredible stay with Ishu and her wonderful family! From the moment we arrived, we felt like part of the family—welcomed with open arms by Mum, Dad, Granddad, Grandma, and their lovely daughters. Traveling with a 1-year-old, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Our little one was so well cared for, and the kids played together like lifelong friends. The house itself was spacious with a big garden that made our stay even more special. It’s just a short 5-minute walk to the beach, and having Mama’s Café around the corner was a fantastic bonus for great local food. Ishu also speaks excellent English, which made communication effortless. On top of everything, they arranged airport transfer and helped us get around with ease—such a thoughtful touch that made our trip stress-free. If you’re looking for a warm, welcoming stay with a true home-away-from-home feeling, look no further. We can’t wait to return! Bohoma sthuthi :)

The place is great. bed is comfortable, kitchen well equipped and very well located. a few minutes walk to the main beach and 15 minutes to Secret Beach. Prabodi is incredibly kind and helpful, and very responsive. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a beautiful spacious property in a fabulous location with a sea view to die for. We were a little concerned as not many reviews, but this is often let as 2 homes together. Alexander was swift to respond and communicate this to us. Sam was always responsive and Dinesh was always on hand to look after us. The dogs are very friendly and absolutely no trouble at all. We already love this area in Sri Lanka, and loved it even more staying here.

Best place to stay in Marissa….family had a great time…perfectly matches the phots and descriptions. I would definitely recommend this place. Very very proactive host goes out of his way to help the customer. Very close to the beach 🏖️.

Isuru was a vey polite and responsive hosts. Very willing to assist you with any issues you may come across! We had a lovely breakfast cooked by his mom :) also having an Aircon was absolutely amazing in this humidity! Thank you Isuru for your hospitality

Suraj was an excellent host. We were held up on our journey and had to change the dates of our stay last minute, which he very kindly accommodated for us. The room was as described, as was the shared kitchen area. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning to stay in Dickwella/Hiriketiya area!

We were two families (8 persons) who stayed at Kristen’s house. There was plenty of space, big bedrooms and living area. A beautiful garden and a nice big pool. The outdoor kitchen had everything we needed and a nice place to chill out at. Kristel had a very friendly and good chef who prepared delicious breakfast in the mornings. He also prepared a great dinner one evening with everything we wished for. Kristel and Werner were very helpful when we needed their help. We would love to come back again. Thank you so much!

We were 2 families (8 people). We booked the entire villa and had the most amazing time at Santi beach house. The property is right in front of the beach, has a private swimming pool, lots and lots of common spaces like living area and balconies. You can hear the waves breaking while lying on the bed and you can just dip your feet in the pool and watch the beach and ocean in front of you. There were 4 staff who were extremely courteous and made ensure that they were around whenever you needed anything from them and we felt very safe and well taken care of through our stay. There is a restaurant next door (5 steps from the villa beach gate) named Fujisan. Amazing food with all kinds of cuisine and was super convenient for us. The sandy beach is again like 5 steps from the property. The beach was friendly with mild waves and a gradual slope. That worked very well for the kids.

Wow, what an amazing stay! The suite was stunning—spacious, spotless, and perfect for our big family. The pool was sparkling clean, and the balcony views of the ocean were breathtaking. Having a private beach and surfing school nearby was such a bonus! Manoj, the host, was super helpful and always available, making everything easy for us. The quieter side of Weligama beach was lovely, but it’s just a quick ride to Mirissa or the main area if you want more action. Highly recommend this place for a relaxed family getaway!

We really enjoyed it here. The communication before and during our stay was just perfect. Every question was answered directly and with very helpful advices. The villa is clean and spacious. The way up is a little bit difficult. But you will be right at a wonderful beach. And around the corner (10 minutes walk) you will find amazing restaurants. The kitchen was a little bit basic but okay. Some salt and herbs would have been nice. But everything else was just the way we hoped it would be. Thank you very much for everything! It was a great experience.

Pavi, Bathi and their family and friends are the loveliest of people, always ready to help or offer advice when needed. Our apartment was situated on the 2nd floor and was lovely, bedroom and bathroom bare very large as is the kitchen diner, if there was anything you needed Pavi got it sorted asap, the grounds are immaculate and have a plethora of wildlife wandering the grounds, the use of the swimming pool was a great addition. Polhena itself is situated in a great spot for travelling out from and has a wonderful little beach(it does get busy at weekends). Shops are in walking distance as is the main town of Matara or a short fun tuk tuk ride. Colombo and other places are easily accessible via buses or train, both a fun way to travel. We will be back.

Great value for money, ideal for family stays.

The accommodation was excellent, everything went smoothly and the people at check-in were super friendly. The house is really beautifully furnished and is in a great location. I would definitely book it again if I return.

This is not a luxury property but a wonderful typical Sri Lankan property. Close to a small beach with diving and snorkeling centres. Also Mirissa is only a short tuk tuk ride away with its larger beach and many restaurants. The host, Ranga, and his family did everything to make our stay wonderful. Thank you

5 min from the beach and up in the jungle, it’s the best place to stay if your looking for the calm. Breakfast and Yoga sessions were great. The staff very kind. I recommend 100%.

Ruwan is a very dear person who goes out of her way to make sure you don't miss anything. The place looked exactly like the pictures. Everything was very clean. There was a fridge full of free water. Breakfast times were by arrangement, which we found very pleasant. Breakfast could have varied a bit more (there was the same thing every day). Ruwan organized transportation to the next accommodation at the Uber price. And the driver was also very nice. We took a trip to the turtles and Galle along with Ruwan, which I had honestly imagined a little differently. I thought he was like a tourist guide who also gives us information, but he just drove us. I found the price to be a bit too high for that. But it was still very nice and a good idea. We do not regret having spent 4 nights at Ruwan's and can recommend it with a clear conscience. I'd love to go there again.

Lovely place in a great location. Slightly tricky to find for our driver but access is via another hotel entrance. There wasn’t any WiFi when we were there and in a bit of a signal black spot but still a great stay!

It was a pleasure to return home to such a nice house. One of the best I've stayed in.

Celine’s house was great for us. 6 persons (4 adults and 2 children 3 and 4 years old). + house exactly the same as on photos. + location is great. + almost private claim beach was good. + Christian and Indra are really great hosts. Please, read feedback from Helen (November 2016) "Myself, husband, two children ......." - it's still actual.

We had a wonderful stay at Sahan’s place - the location was perfect being a few minutes walk from Blue Beach on one side and Hiriketiya on the other with amazing restaurant/ seafood choices. Avisa was always on hand with great suggestions of what to do and he booked us lots of TukTuks and taxis, he was very helpful. He also served a great breakfast in the garden every morning. The only downside is that the living room part of the apartment became very hot, but the views to the sea from there were great.

This was our favorite place we stayed in Sri Lanka during our trip! Beautiful, welcoming, clean and comfortable home with attentive staff. Super close to the beach. Just on the other side of the street. They also let us check in early which was helpful to have a place to store our luggage.

Lovely & calm full apartment with AC, Hot water and mosquito net. The family hosting is lovely, but the apartment is kind of separate with even a rooftop access for smokers. For me, perfectly located away from the busy side of town and yet still close enough to go surfing within 5min by scooter to Hiri Beach. Price for quality wise one of the best apartments I stayed in. Would book again, no doubt.
