This was our second visit to Gerdi, and it was every bit as good as last year. House is comfortable, clean, easy to get around. Views amazing, and location great for outdoor activities. Iwona is a wonderful host. We will be back!

South house is in the most beautiful, peaceful location. It was exactly as described - a handmade, quirky home. This was our first visit to Shetland and it was a great base for North Mainland; Esha Ness, Ronas Hill, Yell and Unst. We had already spent two days camping in South Mainland to visit St Ninian’s Isle, Jarlshof, Sumburgh and Lerwick. We were so lucky with the weather and the little beach below the house ‘The Blade’, was perfect to put in a sea kayak or for a spot of mackerel fishing. We would definitely use it again.

This is our second stay in Varda. The cottage is ideally situated for visiting our friends who live on Yell. We really appreciate the design and layout of the cottage. It is uncluttered and spacious for the two of us. There is a good selection of kitchenware. It has a large fridge/freezer; ideal for 'island life' , where serious shopping is a ferry journey away and advance meal planning is essential. Our bed was very comfortable. The central heating system is very flexible, allowing you to control the temperature in each room. The views from Varda are incredible. An inspiration to get out walking; down to the sea at Whalefirth Voe, or take the track to the Old Herring Station at Hamar. Or you could simply look out the window and watch a local sheep dog trainer teach 'new dogs old tricks' in the field opposite. Shirley has been an excellent host on both our visits, although I understand she does not live locally.

This croft is in a perfect location with a beautiful view over the bay. It is furnished appropriately in an old fashioned style so that you feel you are experiencing Shetland's history. It is warm, cosy and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped perfect for self catering. Bruce and Jean are excellent hosts, kind, welcoming and amusing. The croft is well located for exploring north Shetland. The back garden is beautiful and there is lots of interesting wildlife around. Highly recommended.
