Places to stay in Evanton
'The Steading’ is a rustic cabin on a working farm with wood burning stove set near the North Coast 500 route. Ideal for a writing, musical or yoga retreat. Lots of walking and cycling routes or simply relaxing in front of the fire with a cup of tea. Stunning views across the countryside. NO SHOWER / no hot running water. Basic bedding available. No phone signal/WiFi. Enjoy the peace of the Highlands and being wakened only by the noise of the wildlife, sheep and cows. Sleeps 2 or 4-5 if family.
The Steading is on my father in law’s farm. Alex Houston's farm is set in 100 acres of rustic farmland with a lazy river running through it. The Steading is private, next door to alex’s farm house. Guests have exclusive use of the entire building and the front door is lockable with your own key. The scenery and tranquility is breathtaking and there's miles of unspoilt walking and off-road cycling. It is detached and has two floors. Downstairs open plan living area complete with wood burning stove (no central heating - but the fire is better anyway!), kitchen area, table and chairs with a small toilet room and sink. Cold running water. NO running hot water - but there is a kettle for hot water. (Please note there is NO shower or bath in the steading). ** Guests should bring wood and firelighters with you for the fire ** The kitchen area is very basic - kettle, plug in double hob, sink (cold water only), a fridge and a microwave. There are some pots, pans, mugs and cutlery etc there for you to use. There is no running hot water. There is no shower in the Steading. Some guests have used the showers at the leisure centre in Alness (6 miles away), and you could schedule in getting some extra food supplies in the supermarket at the same time. There are two handmade wooden single beds which can be pushed together to form a double. Basic bedding is provided - though it will be very simple and not hotel standard! You will be staying on a working croft that has approximately 100 sheep and 30 cows. Alex lives on and works the farm and he would be happy to show anyone around the farm and help out with running of it if you wished to experience true Highland crofting! Alex is also an artist and oil painter and has taught art at secondary schools all his life. Families - although the Steading sleeps 2 in our description, families with children (sleeping up to 2 adults and 2-3 children) would be very welcome - please just message to enquire. It is ideal for families as a bit of a an adventure out of the normal city life! You can be guaranteed a quiet holiday as their is no TV, no WiFi, no phone signal and the nearest shop is 8 miles (12km) away. You can get mobile signal 4 miles (6km) back towards Alness. As this is a working farm there are definitely NO PETS ALLOWED. Please bring along some home comforts if you wish - a hand towel for the bathroom, sheets for the mattresses. We don't regularly launder the bits and bobs of towels / blankets etc that are there as spares - so bring some of your own for your own comfort! Also please be warned regarding mice, insects etc - this is a farm, and the Steading is a very basic converted building so there may sometimes be animal intruders in the building which we can’t really stop! So any food should be kept in sealed containers. Lastly - we hope the Steading captures your sense of adventure and that you’d like to stay here! Check out our reviews from our guests to see for yourself what our guests think of it. It certainly is a unique place for a getaway!
If you are looking for peace and tranquility on your holiday then the center of the Highlands of Scotland is for you. This is a remote stay with only the noise of the country farm animals and the crackle of the wood burner! You can go for hours before you will see a car. It also makes it the best location for walking and cycling. It is a converted farm outbuilding with a mix of stone and wood. Entrance is a concrete floor. Toilet is a concrete floor with a flushing toilet and a hand sink. (Please note there is no shower or bath). Downstairs has a wooden floor with a worktop and fitted sink with running water, fridge, microwave, small cooker, power sockets and lighting. There is a table and chairs. There is a wood burning stove which will certainly keep you all cosy! Stairs are wooden. Upstairs is a wooden floor and there are two camp beds. There is power sockets. Please take your sleeping bag with you. There is a cycle shed and car parking available. Please leave the property as you found it - unplugging all appliances when you are not in the property. Check in is around 3pm but we can easily give you a location for the house key if you need to arrive before then (you must remember that there is no phone signal so this has to be arranged before you arrive at the property.)
  • Our stay at the steading was exactly what we needed. We were warned about the cold nights and made sure to bring enough layers and slept very well. The accommodation is very simple and exactly what we needed after a busy few months. Thank you Alex and Fiona!

  • This is a beautiful little place if you are comfortable with simple living. We brought quite a lot of wood because it was February and got through all of it. Alex is greatly welcoming and the location is great. Good access to stunning parts of the country and nice to get the quiet that comes with no mobile phones and no internet. I’ll be back again for a third visit! Thank you for a lovely stay!

  • Lovely place and so nice to meet Alex, a beautiful human!

    Francesco2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a one night stay here on a subzero February night. Alex was so kind and welcoming when we arrived, coming out to meet us in the dark and getting the fire going in no time, which was very much appreciated! The space was actually a bit better equipped than we expected, and although it's very basic we had everything we needed for the night to cook, relax and keep warm. We imagined how dreamy it would be here in spring/summer when it's a wee bit warmer... A lovely peaceful stay.

    Laura2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute gem of a place! Basic and rustic but as campers we found it to be more luxury than we were expecting (being used to small tents the space and a kitchen was lovely!) We stayed on a weekend in Feb with some pretty rough weather and lots of snow. Roasted up the log burner and stayed warm enough! The walk to Fyrish monument that was recommended was beautiful and we had a great stay! 100% would go again and hope we can some time in the future!

    Emily2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was absolutely wonderful. Felt very welcome there straight away upon arriving. Enjoyed our time up in Inverness. Hope to stay again in the future. You’re more than cosy and warm in the winter with the log burner going. It’s wasn’t difficult to keep the space warm when we stayed up in February (-2°c). Don’t miss out on the experience. Eliot

  • My friends and I had a great time at The Steading. Alex was a great host, and we found it very easy to find the location with the detailed directions given. The details Fiona provided were very accurate and allowed us to come prepared. We found the lodging very clean and cozy, perfect for our weekend away.

    Claire2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants an escape from city life. We saw more stars at night here than we ever have in our lives. The steading itself is basic but it’s so cosy once you’ve got the fire on. Alex who owns the farm is so lovely and friendly. We’ll be returning!

Return from woodland and coastal walks to an 1850s cottage which still retains many original features, including decorative fireplaces. Daily fresh eggs from the farm in an interior of delicate pastel and floral notes, plus Caledonian artefacts.
As the name suggests this cottage was previously used as dairy on the family farm in years gone by. The house was built in the 1850's, the first house on the farm as it is now. The cottage was also known as Grieves House and was home to the Manager of Dalmore Distillery years and years ago.
Dalmore Farm is in a quiet location on the edge of Alness, a busy town which in 2018 won the title of Best High Street in Scotland. Set on the shore of the Cromarty Firth, this makes an ideal base for exploring Easter Ross and the Northern Highlands.
  • We had such a wonderful stay at Carolyn’s place. It was so cozy and comfortable and every one in our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house had everything you could want including fresh eggs, milk and bread for breakfast. I highly recommend Carolyn’s place to anyone. She is a gracious host.

    Kim2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place was a great place for us to rest after traveling for a few weeks with our three boys. It has been highly and very thoughtfully put together with everything thought of for you to have a relaxing stay. The welcome pack was perfect thankyou for sharing this lovely cottage.

    Vanessa2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great host & great accommodation - We have stayed at Carolyn's place a few times now while working in the area. Recommend to others.

    Brogan2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's place is indeed the best Airbnb house I stayed so far ! I fell in love with every corner of the house which has been decorated so beautifully with pastel colors I love. The farmhouse is so beautiful and luxurious. The host is so kind to provide us with a basket full of fresh fruits, the fridge full of food- yogurt, juices, milk, carrot cakes, bread, a basket full of eggs!.. oh my god so nice. 6 out of 5 stars for Carolyn and her place!

    Wardah2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn’s cottage was absolutely perfect! There is not a single thing I could fault. It was super clean, the beds were comfortable and the shower was great. There was lots of space and lots of extra touches that just made everything perfect. Carolyn met us at the cottage to explain everything and she was lovely. We had fresh milk, bread, fruit and even a wee cake on our arrival. The fresh eggs from the chickens that are all around the cottage were the best I’ve tasted. The board games in the sitting room were perfect for that quiet family night in. It really was just in all the little details. Perfect stay!!

    Charlene2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

  • Loved our stay at Red Gates! Beautiful house in peaceful location. Loved the Christmas tree, fire, comfortable beds and decor. Enjoyed looking at the before and after pictures in the book. Everything’s been completed to a very high standard and the welcome basket was a nice touch. We’d love to come back in the future!

  • It was such an amazing stay that we were a bit sad on the day of our departure. The place was sparkling clean when we arrived and gave such a homey feel. All the facilities ran well including our personal favorite, the amazing fireplace.

    Hartono2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning!

    Barb2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptional house in beautifully renovated courtyard. The decor and finishes are first class and all of the upgrades are sympathetically executed. Lovely!

    David2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our four night stay at Red Gates and wished we had stayed longer! It is beautifully done; from the thoughtful restoration, to the lovely furnishings. We loved all the space and the quiet location. It was fantastic to have separate washer & dryer as opposed to the two-in-one units that are so prevalent. Highly recommended & one of our favorite Airbnb’s! Thank you Rebecca!

    Lynn2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Red Gates is a warm, inviting newly renovated carriage house nestled in the gorgeous farmlands of Balblair. Perfect for families exploring the Inverness area by car, easy to reach Loch Ness in under 30 mins. Clean and new, spacious rooms and a backyard of sheep to greet your arrival. If you are looking for your own private estate- this is the place. Highly recommended!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Red Gates. It is stunning house in a very pretty and tranquil setting. Everything is finished to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. This wood lined hut is set in a beautiful rural location with a pond and surrounded by wildlife. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this peaceful and relaxing setting. Hot tub hire is available but this must be booked separately. We need to know in advance if you require the hot tub so that it is ready for use when you arrive. We charge £50 for 1 night, £90 for 2 nights and £120 for 3 nights for the hot tub which is payable on arrival.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the red hut! Right from the moment we arrived we felt very welcome after a very long 9 hour drive. There was a parking space right next to the hut and the heater had been left on so it was lovely and cosy. The breakfast the next morning was lovely and had items such as croissants, orange juice, yoghurts, fruit, toast, jam etc. It was so nice for us to have time to simply relax together in the morning. The view was also incredible and overlooked fields and snowy mountain tops. We had a few days out at Chanonry Point, Loch Ness, Skelbo Woods and Dunrobin Castle. We saw a few seals at Chanonry Point. For our evening meals we walked to the Culbokie Inn (30 mins) where the food was amazing with a cosy atmosphere and an open fire. On Friday night the Culbokie Inn was a bit more rowdy as you can imagine. We then ate at the Mallard where they had amazing fish and chips. If you go out late we would recommend getting a torch as some of the country roads are a bit dark. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Will was very friendly and accommodating. We didn't meet Val but communication was good. Unfortunately the hot tub wasn't working for our visit but there were so many other things to do that this wasn't a problem. We would love to visit again in the future.

    Charlotte2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Valerie accommodated is very last minute, which was amazing. We had no hot water for a bit but it was sorted within an hour of bringing it to her attention. The breakfast is a really nice touch.

  • Marion’s place was absolutely perfect for our Christmas stay! Couldn’t ask for anything better: clean, thoughtful and perfectly located for our journey around the highlands!

    Cheyenne2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • We were with Marion for 6 days and were looking forward to it very much in advance. The check in was very warm and there was even a small fruit basket with the necessary food to start with. The kitchen is a dream and the rest of the house is very cozy and lovingly decorated. The view from the bedroom window on the water was absolutely great. It was a great time with Marion and we would love to come back.

  • My family and I enjoyed our time in Marion’s seaside house! Marion was there to show us the house and provided us with great tips on what to do in the area. The house was incredibly adorable, with a lovely welcome package and we even had a nice view of the water from one of the rooms. I would definitely recommend.

'The Tractor Shed' is a renovated 1860's steading situated on a small farm on the Black Isle. The cosy detached house sits in the yard of the farm, close to the main farmhouse. The farm is on the north side of the Black Isle with some great views over Ben Wyvis and the hills to the west. A peaceful, quirky place to stay in the rural countryside yet not too far from Inverness and other local attractions such as Loch Ness and Culloden. Great for couples, small family groups or solo adventurers.
A cosy and modern place to stay, right in the centre of all the daily goings on of the farm. The house is in the main farm yard- it is detached but is right in the centre of the farm. There are two bedrooms, one double bed on the mezzanine level up the spiral stairs and 2 queen size beds downstairs. There is a spacious wet room with a generously sized shower and an open plan kitchen/dining and living area with a well equipped kitchen. There is also a wood burning stove with a plentiful supply of firewood. The garden is under construction at the moment but guests are welcome to make use of the extensive outdoor spaces!
A cosy house situated on a working farm, experience authentic Highland life! Beautiful views over Ben Wyvis, close to the Moray and Cromarty Firths (great for dolphin watching!), lovely forest walks and very close to the NC500 route. Loch Ness just 30 minutes away and just 15 minutes from the centre of Inverness and 35 minutes from the nearest airport. Lots of distilleries within just a short drive. Longer day trips to the West Coast are not impossible. Quiet and rural yet central and a great base for a Highland holiday.
  • Fantastic space to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! The Tractor Shed is perfect in size, warmth and character which helps you unwind after a day exploring the local area. Would highly recommend, we’ve been twice already and will no doubt be back again!

  • We had an amazing stay, the place was beautifully decorated, warm, welcoming, fully equipped and very well located! We really hope to come back again! Louise was very reactive and available to us – thank you so much for your kindness, Louise! Special note for the fresh eggs and complimentary breakfast.

    Céline2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Modern, secluded, great location, well appointed and the best hostess

    Scoot2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation, also for families with children.

    Claudia2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautifully renovated and has such a lovely feel to it. It's very cosy and we were supplied with plenty logs for the wood burner. It was a really nice touch to have all kitchen essentials there for us on arrival. The Black Isle is a great place go explore and this was a great base to do so. We visited Loch Ness, Cromarty, Chanonry Point and had a lovely walk to the Fairy Glen all with our little 3 year old, so plenty family friendly things to do if you like fresh air. We also had the best coffee and scones at a little cafe in Fortose called IV10.

    Aubin2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely space, that Louise and Donald have obviously taken a lot of time and effort in renovating into a stylish modern property that is still cozy and everything you’d want from a highland retreat. Well situated for exploring the surrounding area.

    Jordan2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend Louise and Donald's place highly enough! Beautiful and spotlessly clean, they also made it extremely accommodating for our two children. Absolutely loved the eggs and bacon that they left us for breakfast. So nice to have a yummy breakfast next to the cozy woodburning stove. Close to Inverness, but with the countryside feel. We hope to go back!

    Koert2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We truly enjoyed our 3 night stay in Louise and Donald's wee Tractor Shed. They have done an amazing job of renovating this space. The location is great, the nearby area is super cute, and you are only 20 odd minutes from Inverness. Our experience was perfect. The accomodation was spotlessly clean, very tastefully decorated, it was light and had a great sense of space with the high ceilings. We highly recommend adding this to your 'must stay' list.

  • Hi Gabrielle, Together with our friends, we truly enjoyed the luxury, comfort and coyness of your home in this stunning part of the UK. A 10 out of 10 in every aspect!

  • Gem cottage is a perfect location to recharge your batteries and be indulged. The cosiness of the cottage in a rural, seaside setting was very calming and healing. Back to nature with gentle walks and wonderful fresh air were wonderful tonics for weary travellers . The cottage was beautifully decorated , furnished and equipped. We felt totally spoilt. There was also an extensive collection of relevant books provided. The cottage is an enormous credit to the hosts!

  • Stayed here with my wife, 2 yr old and 7 month old from the US. Gabrielle’s communication was great throughout. We asked for many suggestions to do with kids in the area and she was able to provide some great ideas which we loved. Every detail in the house is warm and comforting. The sauna was great after hiking up the to see the Fyrish Monument. Location is ideal close to town if you need to grab something but nestled next to a nice walking path on the water. Would highly suggest to anyone staying in their area to stay here.

  • Skogen is a beautiful bungalow, very stylish and cosy. We stayed for 3 nights and wish we had longer. It is set in a little village by a wooded area, with a distant sea view. We tried to see as much as possible, travelled to Inverness one and and Skye another, but there is too much to see in that time. It was great to come back to Skogen at night, light a fire and cook a meal in the gorgeous kitchen. Everything I wanted was there. Then have a soak in one of the two baths and snuggle on the sofa and watch a movie. The weather wasn't fantastic in the beginning of January, but it doesn't spoil the views. Sitting on the decking at night and hoping for a clear sky, because seeing the stars in this romantic place is magical. Only two of us stayed there, and we loved the space. I recommend Skogen for a break in the highlands for sure.

    Rebecca2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Annelie's place was amazing, in such a remote location with fantastic views. The check in was super easy and Annelie was so accommodating, providing all the information and being super helpful. The cabin itself is beautiful, with fantastic amenities and a really relaxing feel to the place.

    Callum2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • I can absolutely recommend staying here. The house is great, the location is great and Annelie was a fantastic host.

  • We stayed here w/c 21st October Myself, My Husband, Mother, Sister, Nephew & 2 dogs. It was a break to make memories as a family but we also got the chance to meet up with extended family that live nearby. The accomodation was excellent, it is has a great sociable layout and fab location especially the bungalows back gates opening onto the woodland to the rear of the property which is great if you are stopping with dogs. We had an amazing time it is a real home from home experience and we would love to come back as there is so much to see and lots of walks we would like to go on next time now we are familiar with the surrounding area. Many Thanks Carly

    Carly2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Our young family had lots of adventures in the woods, exploring the secret trail, meeting Nessie in the playground, building dens and playing by the river. Skogen was great as somewhere to stay where we didn’t have to drive somewhere every day. The circular walk to the Fyrish monument (17km) was a good challenge for Angus (4) and the rest of us enjoyed it too. The house was lovely and warm, especially with the wood burner going, and there was lots of space for us all. We had a really good week, highly recommended.

Foulis Castle is close to Evanton which is near the ancient burgh of Dingwall. Foulis Castle is a 15 min walk away from the Storehouse Restaurant & Farm shop, which is situated on the shore/beach of the Cromarty Firth.. You’ll love my place because of privacy of having your own country retreat within beautifully landscaped gardens. My place is small & good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers. The one bedroom contains either x2 singles or zip&link super-king size bed.
The Courtyard is located on the North/East wall of the Foulis Castle Courtyard and is a Private Luxury Self Catered home away from home in the Scottish Highlands. It is a tranquil, quiet sanctuary to rebalance mind, body and soul. The Courtyard's front door opens onto the Foulis Castle private drive/parking and overlooks the Foulis Castle Arboretum, beautifully landscaped gardens & ponds. The kitchen area over looks the Castle Courtyard and has all modern facilities with a table seating x 2. The Courtyard bedroom has a 32" flat screen TV with Freeview. It has underfloor central heating which is provided by a biomass heating system, so the apartment is warm throughout. The Courtyard has beautiful traditional flagstone floors throughout it's kitchen, bedroom, entrance hall & shower-room with toilet & sink. The towels and linen on the beds are all new with cotton duvets. The Courtyard bedroom comes with two singles which can zip together creating a super king size bed, there is also plenty of draw & hanging space for clothes. Foulis Castle has guided tours which are held on Tuesdays at 10.30am, there is no charge for the tour but donations to the Foulis Castle Trust are welcome. The Courtyard has unlimited Broadband / WiFi which works well in the kitchen area. We do allow x3 people, though the third person would sleep either in a baby's travel cot or on a mattress on the floor in the entrance hallway. The mattress is a snug fit though can be propped upright during the day, the stone floors through out the Courtyard have underfloor heating. Looking for additional accommodation for friends and family? We can offer 'The Pavilion' apartment with x2 bedrooms or 'Foulis Cottage' with x2 bedrooms, please look on airbnb for details.
Dingwall formerly served as the county town of the county of Ross and Cromarty, it lies near the head of the Cromarty Firth. In the early Middle Ages Dingwall was reputed to have the largest castle north of Stirling. King Macbeth from Shakespeare's Macbeth was born in Dingwall c1005. There are very good golf course's, lovely beaches, walks and other country pursuits. Guests are free to enjoy and walk on the 2650 acre Foulis Estate, with its native wildlife, and the property is ideally situated to take advantage of the surrounding attractions. For stalking Deer Foulis Estates, golf lovers the small town of Dornoch and its Championship Golf Course is within an hours drive, for whisky lovers there are many Distilleries in the locality to visit, Dalmore at Invergordon or Glenmorangie at Tain, to name just two. For shoppers the small towns of Dornoch, Dingwall and Strathpeffer, with it’s historic pavilion are always worth a visit. For walkers why not take a walk up to the Fyrish Monument, reputedly an imitation of the gates of Negapataum in India. The views from the top are quite amazing, with views of the Cromarty Firth, Ben Wyvis, the Affric, and on a clear day further afield to the Cairngorms.

  • Had a great time at Taigh Mu Dheireadh Evanton, it was 6 of us and the space was just more than enough. I must say the house was just very clean with enough parking space for our 2 cars. Fiona has managed to collect some useful leaflets about places of interest that you could visit in the highlands and we found this very helpful. In the evenings we preferred to cook our meals and we found Evanton very resourceful, there is a large supermarket and a service station not very far from the village. From Evanton you have got easy access to the main road to Inverness and we loved this as we spent our evenings going to the pictures. Now, our host.. Fiona is such a great host, very welcoming and always available to communicate and give you tips on your travel plans. To us she didn’t feel like a host but it felt like we had known each other before. From the rest of my family and entourage thank you so much Fiona, we really appreciated.

  • Small house with 2 bedrooms upstairs, a mezzanine living room as well as a kitchen and a dining room on the ground floor. 2 bathrooms. 1 wc on the ground floor in addition. Built on the remains of a medieval castle (2 glazed loopholes in the accommodation, a wall a good meter thick. View of the castle garden and the castle garden through small windows but no access to the garden or to the castle itself. Nice park around. Very calm. Good mattresses. Overall clean, except the floor, all rooms except the kitchen and the bathrooms being covered with beige carpets. Paint that comes off in the bathrooms. Whole ground floor (kitchen and dining room) very cold despite the heating. Ditto the mezzanine lounge. Very nice decoration (paintings, real plants). Some nice furniture. A four-poster bed. No potholders. Material provided (more than necessary); and of good quality. Owner responds very slowly. Key box code received a few hours before entering the premises, although I asked the day before. We have never met the owners or any other human being.

AirBnB London and Paris Superhosts bring you this charming 3 bedroom country cottage set in its own woodland by its own trout river. Enjoy the hospitality of this quiet and ideally placed base for exploring the Highlands of Scotland: visit Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, whiskey distilleries, or a local craft beer brewery, or just enjoy the beautiful local scenery with a long walk or hike.
We have been hosting in London, Geneva and Paris since 2012 and recently renovated and listed this charming Scottish country cottage that has been in our family for nearly 100 years. Our ideal guests are families of 5, or else small groups of friends travelling together - we will never ask strangers to share the space. You will see photos of the exterior and interior on the site. The cottage has three bedrooms: The Botanic room with a queen size bed and toilet en-suite; The Birds room with two single beds and a shower-room en-suite; The Traveller room with a single bed situated next to the shared bathroom. The living room has a working fireplace and a library of local guidebooks as well as a broad range of literature. A separate dining room leads into the fully-equipped kitchen. The cottage is accessed through a sun porch that is great for afternoon tea. There is a lawn garden to the front with views over the Cromartie Firth, and a slope down to the trout river. Tall trees protect the house to the North. The cottage is set back from the road behind a wall and hedge giving great private space in the garden.
Situated on the famous North Coast 500 route, we are ideally placed as a base to explore the Highlands. The cottage is just twenty kilometres north of Inverness and the amenities of the city, but offers the pleasure of the country, with easy access to Loch Ness itself. Note that the cottage itself is a 15 minute walk from shops in the centre of Evanton village - it is not really practical to stay here without your own vehicle. A beautiful road leads off to the West Coast and the Isle of Skye. Or head up the East Coast right to the tip of Great Britain. Evanton also has some of its own features: • Fyrish Monument. This is the stone ruin you can see on top of the nearest hill. It represents the gates of Negapatam in India and was built in 1782 by General Sir Hector Munro, a local landowner, in order to provide employment for local people. There is a path up to the monument on the other side of the hill. • The Black Rock Gorge, just a mile further up the Glenglass Road, is a very deep and narrow natural river gorge. It is a rather spooky place and was used for filming one of the scenes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! • Ben Wyvis is a small mountain (big for Scotland) between Evanton and Dingwall to the north. It is a Nature Reserve and can be walked. Despite only being 1000 metres high, some parts of the mountain have snow all year round. There are also many great places to walk just in the nearby countryside and guests will find links to trails we and others have loaded onto Wikiloc in the house manual.
  • Cozy and charming Scotland cottage. Every amenity you would want when traveling alone or with a group. Private, yet accessible to Evanton and other areas close by. The owners are extremely communicative and conscientious of their property. I highly recommend this property.

My place is great for couples or families.
The Bakehouse is located on the North/East wall of the Foulis Castle Courtyard and is a Private Luxury Self Catered home away from home in the Scottish Highlands. It is a tranquil, quiet sanctuary to rebalance mind, body and soul. The Bakehouse's front door opens onto the Foulis Castle Courtyard & private drive/parking and overlooks the Foulis Castle Arboretum, beautifully landscaped gardens & ponds. The kitchen area over looks the Castle Courtyard and has all modern facilities with a table seating x 8. The Bakehouse has a 42" flat screen TV with Sky. It has underfloor central heating which is provided by a biomass heating system, so the apartment is warm throughout. The Bakehouse has beautiful traditional flagstone floors throughout it's lower levels. The towels and linen on the beds are all new with cotton duvets. Foulis Castle has guided tours which are held on Tuesdays at 10.30am. The Bakehouse has unlimited Broadband / WiFi which works well in the kitchen area.
  • This place is amazing!! Very big space that we had all to ourselves. It was very clean and neat and we felt at home. Gorgeous views, very safe and amazing history. Would definitely go back again!

  • A very tasteful apartment. The best bed I’ve ever slept in. The quietest place I’ve stayed at. Beautiful grounds to walk through...

  • A spacious and attractive space for a family or a larger party, with three full modern bathrooms (two of them en-suite), a well stocked kitchen, a dining area, sitting room, and even a play space for smaller children. The location and grounds are beautiful and there are cafes and restaurants close enough and good enough to make a half hour drive worthwhile. Or you can stay in and cook a meal if you prefer. Loved it. Highly recommend it.

The Steading ground floor comprises of a spacious kitchen and a bath room with a shower. Up the stairs you find a double bedroom. Quite compact but very cosy.
Wi-fi is up and running. We have a eclectic collection of art in the Steading . Many of our friends are artists.
Very rural up a bumpy track.
  • Sue's place is literally heaven on earth. It is a magical place, full of art, little trinkets and nature. The accomodation itself was very spacious, extremely well-equipped and really clean. Sue was a very warm-hearted host and always helpful. The directions to accomodation were flawless. The surroundings are very calm and peaceful, perfect for a quiet getaway. There's almost nothing better than opening your over-bed window in a cozy bunk-bed and looking at the freshly-fallen snow whilst the wood-stove is warming up the house. This accomodation was the best we had during our 2-week-holiday in Scotland and we would love to come back one day. Highly recommended.

  • We are very happy to have met Susan and John. A super nice couple, welcoming and generous. We thank them very much for this stay. We absolutely recommend.

    Mathilde2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location, really fun accommodation, and the friendliest hosts. This place is quirky and just right for someone looking for a rustic, quiet, atypical airbnb.

    Natasha2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this place due to its quirkiness, we fancied something a bit different. Sue was there to great us on our arrival, make us feel at home and show us around the Strathy. She’d already got the log fire going for us! It doesn’t matter that it’s off the beaten track as the Strathy is fully equipped for self catering. We cooked both nights we were there with a plethora of cooking pots, pans and utensils. We wanted for nothing. The bed took some getting used to up in the eves but it all added to the quirkiness of the place. The shower was nice and hot and if you get a bit chilly there’s a red hot heater in there as well as a heater in the bedroom. There’s lots of interesting artwork about the Strathy and grounds so go and explore. I particularly liked the big drift wood throne and the robot frogs. Sue was conscientious, attentive, friendly and helpful along with Bob her little helper. N.B. The listing does state that Sue may want access to the shower and fridge in the Strathy but we never actually saw her using either during our 2 night stay. We would definitely stay here again if in the area (I would dearly like to spend time with Bob again).

    Alex2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is just as pretty and individual as in the pictures. The kitchen has everything you need, and the bedroom is extremely comfortable. The description and the pictures are perfect! Sue and John were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay there.

  • We've recently returned from a week's stay in this cottage. Cottage was clean and tidy on arrival and in a great location for us ~ easy to get to other places, good wildlife on the doorstep etc. There was some road noise especially with farm vehicles but nothing that detracted from our break and easy to pull our car in off the road so no concerns there. we found the cottage comfy with plenty of space and lots of thoughtful touches to make for a relaxing stay. We would stay again.

    Claire2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Langlands Cottage offers the best of both worlds at a reasonable price. A charming cottage right on the bank of the Cromarty Firth in the small village of Jemimaville. Nestled in the countryside next to the tidal Firth that attracts abundant birds. Inside is modern, elegant and offers the best of day-to-day comforts; comfortable beds, efficient heating, boundless hot water, a large modern kitchen with top of the range appliances. The bustling village of Cromarty is only minutes away while Inverness can be reached in under thirty minutes. It was the ideal place to relax and enjoy nature. But also a convenient base for exploring the beauty and diversity of the Black Isle and the Highlands.

Originally a smiddy/forge for the old Croft house that was then a stables when the main house was converted. Now a bothy studio with full size shower and king size bed. Benefits from a private garden that catches all the evening sun and allows views of the Fyrish monument and beyond. Ideal for a long weekend, and for the NC500 or even a whiskey trail. Ample room for car parking, bike storage and a canoe.
Quirky to say the least. I don’t think the pictures do it justice. Built the old fashioned way with a contemporary retro finish. Mezzanine bed with king size mattress. Galley shower room with full size shower. Kitchen cooking facilities. Wild West decking and private garden with bike shed.
The property is in open farmland, Evanton has a pub and shop. Dingwall is about 4miles away and is a market town. Inverness is a 20min drive. The Airport is 40mins away
  • Clean and comfortable wee spot, perfect for little breaks.

  • Kylie-Ann is a very friendly lady with a warm heart for children. The rooms are very clean, modern, luxurious and perfect for relaxing. The breakfast was also varied and more than adequate. In short, definitely worth the price.

    Melissa2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed 3 nights. It is a nice base to explore the Scotland. Inverness, Culloden, highlands etc. The surrounding forest is really a surprising recommendation! The rooms and the bathroom are very attractive and comfortable. The breakfast is also good. And Kylie and her family are very friendly and flexible. In short, top stay!

    Leonie2019-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • We just checked out of Kylie Anns place and I honestly can say it was a fantastic start of our north coast 500 trip. We were welcomed at check in and shown around to our room and given advice on places to eat and walks around about where we were. The decor is absolutely stunning and looks exactly like the photos. The bathroom is beautiful and so are the bedrooms. I will definitely be recommending this to everyone I speak to. I don't have 1 negative thing to say about our stay here :)

    Kaitlin2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Short but very nice stay at Kylie-Ann's house. She's been very helpful and easygoing. The house is well located in Evanton ''centre", grocery store a few steps away, 30min away from Inverness. Very convenient departure point to discover the Highlands. The room is really clean and well furnished (easy chair, nice bed, big TV with Netflix), the bathroom extremely clean and brand-new. Big plus at Kylie-Ann's compared to many AirBnB is the breakfast which is good and complete. I will certainly recommend that place!

    François2019-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Best Air B’n’B me and my partner have stayed in! The quality of every aspect the the house and experience well over exceeded the price! Everything was thought about! Can not recommend this place enough! Kylie-Ann was a super host! Plus, there was no rush to leave at all infact was invited to stay longer! The breakfast and coffee available was to die for aswell! Would pick this over anywhere in Inverness and travel into the city instead! Thanks again so much! Jess & Rob!

  • We had such a wonderful stay. The cottage was so warm and cosy, and had lots of little flourishes that really made it for us! It was spotlessly clean! We had a chance to meet Kitty and she is so, so lovely. Thank you Kitty for making your cottage so wonderful.

  • A beautiful cottage in an absolutely stunningly part of the Scottish Highlands. Lots of inside space, spotlessly clean, modern with some lovely original features. Great kitchen with all the equipment you need. Large living room with TV and WiFi, but you'll never be in, as there's so much to do! Loved the log burner, even on a mild September evening. Nice touches with the shortbread and milk! The garden is a good space too, out two labradors loved it and we sat outside a few times to enjoy our lunch in the sun. The location is perfect, the smell of the sea, lovely little harbour & beach, we even saw dolphins swimming through the Firth on the day we arrived. For food and other provisions, there's the local Coop. We also travelled to Fortrose, which is only 5 minutes by car, there's a nice bakery, butchers, a larger Coop and great little cafe that does everything from a full breakfast to a decent vegan menu. We also ate at IV10, amazing food and drink, plus a great deli. Check out Fortrose cathedral whilst you're there - magical at night! Also take a visit to Rosemarkie - the long red sandy beach is great and you can walk along to Chanonry Point (you may be lucky and catch a glimpse of the local dolphin pod) and back from there. Nice friendly pub too - the Plough Inn. We have fallen in love with Avoch & the Black Isle. We highly recommend staying in this gorgeous cottage in Avoch.

  • The best AirBnB so far. Emma has a great place and my friends and I were bowled over by it. A little off the beaten track but Dingwalls a 10 min drive for amenities. Great space and spotless. May be the only AirBnB where we make a return visit next time we fly into Inverness.

  • This is the most wonderful house in a beautiful location. We stayed there as a large family group and everything was ideal. The big dining room was perfect, we have done a few big family holiday and have always ended up on various tables and chairs but to be round one table was lovely. We will definitely return (nothing to do with the number of amazing cafes and walks nearby)

    Jessie2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great house with amazing views, scenery and amenities. Lovely and warm in the middle of winter. Loads of room and very nice easy to work with.

    Daniel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first time booking an Airbnb property and everything exceeded my expectations. The booking process was easy, Emma was in touch when she needed to be and she was so friendly. The house was perfect and whilst the pictures are accurate they cannot prepare you for the feeling you get when you arrive, unlock the door and go off and explore every room. Perfect for all of us ..and if that's not enough...the view across the water is stunning!
