  • Alma cottage is perfectly located for exploring beautiful Islay - with amazing views of Loch Indaal and walking distance into Bowmore. We had a lovely time at the cottage and Linda and Colin were brilliant hosts.

  • We only stayed for 1 night and it wasn’t long enough! This is a well equipped, comfortable cabin with amazing views and parking. The weather was very wet and windy during our stay but we were kept warm by the log burner - very cosy! Linda and Colin were great: very friendly hosts who met us on arrival and told us where to go in town (which is only 5 mins walk away). We would definitely stay here again.

    Della2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, wrap up by the fire and enjoy Islay’s unpredictable weather with amazing sea views!

    Maxine2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • If you have never been to Islay or are a seasoned visitor, then i assure you that this is the place you need to stay! Amazing does not do it justice!! Situated in Bowmore and with a vista to die for, you will not be disappointed that is for sure. Both Colin & Linda have been simply brilliant in every way. Such lovely people who deserve a 10 out of 10 for their service to Air BnB! Well done guys. We will be back thats for sure.

    Steve2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was very comfortable and the wood burning stove very welcome. The cabin held up extremely well when tested by the weather conditions during Storm Ciara. Views very exciting and nothing stays the same. Good local amenities which served us very well.

    Keith2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's place was amazing, so comfortable and a wonderful location on the fabulous Isle of Islay. Linda and Colin are great hosts and we would highly recommend staying with them. We will definitely be back.

    Alan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The reviews are right. This is a fantastic place to stay. A warm welcome awaits, the fire was lit and it was so cosy. Great local recommendation took us to a fabulous and friendly local whisky bar. Waking up to the view across the loch is unbelievable. There is everything you need and more. Highly recommended whatever the weather or time of year.

    Simon2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • When we first stumbled upon this flat on AirBnB, it seemed almost too good to be true. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Linda is the most wonderful host. The views are incredible, the wood fire very cozy and bed extremely comfortable. The location is perfect for a little stroll into town and exploring the rest of the island. I’m so glad we found this little gem. We will be back!

Bluebell cabin is set in an spruce plantation near the small town of Port Ellen. Outside the cabin features a log fired hot tub with views over the Oa perfect for relaxing after a day of taking in the scenery or distillery tours, the gas BBQ and viewing deck will leave you feeling peaceful and content. Inside is home to a sleeping Mezzanine, kitchen area, electric heating and a modern bathroom with a log fired stove at the very heart of the cabin. Slainte! Karen & Richard
Our Bluebell cabin is located approximately 5-minute drive from the town of Port Ellen which was founded and named in 1821 by Walter F Campbell who named the town Port Ellinor after his wife. The town has a few shops, a café, a restaurant and offers a sandy beach, tennis courts and bowling.
Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, one of our favourite walks is only a 15 minute walk through an idyllic woods and along a perfect Hebridean beach from our cabin. Whilst walking to the lighthouse keep an eye out for seals, otters and wild goats as these can all be seen regularly from the lighthouse.
  • Absolutely perfect stay in every way! Karen and Richard are fab hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend staying more than 2 nights as it was very hard to leave!

    Katie2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed in Bluebell cabin at the weekend and it was a faultless stay. Not only was the cabin beautiful to stay in and so clean, but Karen and Richard went over and above to make our stay unforgettable. The cabin's location is a stone's throw away from beautiful scenery and wild beaches, just 5 minutes drive from Port Ellen. Its situation is unbeatable. Inside has been lovingly crafted by Richard and Karen, who have thought of everything, down to the pair of cute head torches for venturing outside in the dark. It's tasteful and spotlessly clean. The real winner of our trip was how wonderful Karen and Richard are. They're welcoming, generous and made us feel like valued friends rather than guests. We'll absolutely be back, as soon as possible. Richard and Karen, you're smashing it! Can't wait to visit again!

    Liv2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Even storm Dennis and a power cut couldn't spoil our amazing holiday in Bluebell. Thank you Richard & Karen, you looked after us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Amazing hosts, going above and beyond. The cosy cabin has everything you need and the setting really makes you feel away from it all. The perfect spot to explore magical Islay.

    Amy2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible stay, only thing I wish I would have done different would be to book for longer! Cabin was perfect, hosts lovely and Molly the dog 👌🏻 Fantastic memories and will be booking again.

  • Lovely cabin, cozy, nice location. A perfect base for exploring the island, or in colder months, lighting the wood stove and relaxing with a book.

Fabulous views over the sea to Laphroaig distillery. Skandi design with serious luxury for one couple to escape to Isle of Islay tranquility (the Queen of the Hebrides). Frequent visitors are Golden Eagles and Hen Harriers. Come and relax in style.
Nestled in to the hillside this architect designed accommodation has expansive views across to Kilnaughton Bay, Port Ellen, mainland Argyll and Ireland. The views are a constant source of pleasure always changing as the light and weather change. Attention to comfort is paramount with cosy underfloor heating, goose down duvet and wood burning stove so that even in the worst of weather it’s possible to snuggle down! In glorious weather the doors can be left wide open with an outdoor table for barbecuing and eating Al Fresco. In the kitchen top of the range Miele oven, induction hob and Tapenyaki mean that all Islay’s wonderful larder can be cooked with delicacy and precision. We want your Islay experience to live long in the memory so we have tried to think of everything!
Islay as a haven for bird watchers and distillery watchers alike. With many pristine beaches and lots of places to walk, cycle with many activities locally available.
  • Spectacular location, amazing accommodation which was truly over and above that advertised. An extremely luxurious place to stay on Islay. Richard was a very friendly and hospitable host. The accommodation has been very well thought out with some lovely touches. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a luxury, tranquil and special break. The view is to die for.

    Elaine2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • A truly incredible opportunity to visit and stay in one of the best locations on Islay. Watching the Atlantic wall of weather swallow port Ellen from the luxury and comfort of my accomodation was a memory that lasts a lifetime. Sadly at the cost of spotting any Eagles.... I will catch them next time. (My stay was February).

    Pete2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the best AirBnB we have stayed at, the accommodation, equipment facilities were first class and Richard and Sue are just lovely hosts. I would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay and Islay is just a lovely island to spend time in

    Mike2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay for my partner's 30th, stunning views and very tranquil. Something very nice about sitting in with the fire watching the wind and rain outside.

    Nicola2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • 5/5 stars. We loved Richards place! Communication was very quick and easy, and once we got to the island, his directions were perfect and very easy to understand. The cottage was much better than we expected, all the little touches Richard has included made it feel more like a spa vacation. The shower....the bathrobes, the slippers, the shampoo and body wash, etc....The food he left for us to make breakfast. The bottle of wine! It was just perfect. The view of Port Ellen was stunning, and we got especially lucky to see the fireworks for Guy Fawkes night. Highly recommend, and fantastic value for the price. Also, Gus is wonderful.

    Rod2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning views and beautiful property

    Nan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Richard’s place is absolutely amazing and the views are spectacular. He is the most thoughtful host and the house exceeded our expectations. You will not be disappointed staying here. You’ll only be disappointed if you don’t.

    Dorothy2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Richard thought of every detail in his house. We felt at home the moment we arrived and were able to enjoy the most amazing view from his house. Richard has a great taste when it comes to design which made our stay a luxurious retreat. Above that he is the most thoughtful host and is always there to help. I would highly recommend Richards house for your vacation! We’ll definitely be back!

My place is next door to the Lochindaal Hotel on the West side. There may be some noise occasionally from the Hotel next door at night, so, please be aware of this. The door is painted blue and it's No. 11. The price is £35 per person per night. Arrive any time on the day of your booking. If a changeover is in effect i.e. Bed linen being changed, cleaning etc, you are welcome to freshen up, have some tea or coffee, leave luggage. . If coming by car, book the ferry before hand!! ..
If the ferry lands at Port Askaig, then, turn right at Bridgend approx 8 miles from Port Askaig. Follow the road around Lochindaal through Bruichladdich to Port Charlotte. If you land at Port Ellen, travel to Bowmore and onwards to Bridgend where you turn left for Port Charlotte.
  • David and Margaret are fantastic and we simply could not have asked for better hosts. They accommodated some last minute changes to our plans, gave us breakfast, provided tips on dinner and worked out a way for us to catch the rugby in the local pub. They are lovely people. Our accommodation was comfortable with a great lounge/kitchen, clean, tidy and well kitted-out. Right in the heart of Port Charlotte. Cannot recommend highly enough.

    Tristan2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience! Definitely stay here if / when visiting Islay!

    Michael2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Probably the best experience I’ve ever had through Airbnb. The hospitality was incredible. Was a really special experience. The pub next door was great and the seafood place a few blocks away served pretty amazing food.

  • Our stay at Jim's place was wonderful. The location was perfect, and the cabin super cosy. Jim and Caroline were lovely and approachable. The little cabin was perfect for my fiancee and I to relax in after each day of exploring the island and distilleries. No kitchen was not an issue for us as we would usually have a snacky dinner after a big pub lunch during the day.

    Natasha2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was an excellent host. Aside from his cabin being wonderful, he provides excellent taxi and touring services. He took us to a couple of places that we never would have gotten to on our own ! Highly recommend.

  • This was our second time staying and it was even better than last time. Sarah’s place can’t be beat if you’re looking to enjoy the Islay life.

    Michael2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Juniper Cottage is the perfect hub to explore Islay from if you want a gorgeous escape from it all. There's everything you need to cozy up and read a book by the fire with a good home cooked meal from the fully equipped kitchen, as well as fantastic recommendations from the host on things to see from while on the island. Sarah will make sure you are well looked after, and feel right at home in the cozy cottage on the wonderfully wild and windswept isle of Islay. I can't think of a better place to visit while in Scotland!

    Larissa2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy and clean cottage that is wonderfully remote. Sarah left us wine and cake which was very welcome. Imagine snuggling up in front of the fire listening to the stags roaring and watching the hen harrier hunt across the moor -absolutely perfect. Well worth a visit

    Jenny2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy cottage. Sarah met us when we arrived to welcome us and give us a quick tour. She had prepared a cheeseboard and a small bottle of home made wine. Everything was nice and clean. The cottage is a short drive to both Port Ellen or Bowmore.

    Ian2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • I knew Juniper Cottage would be lovely and we weren't disappointed. The cottage has a lovely remote feel to it, and inside it is perfectly cosy. Everything you could need and then some! The bed is the comfiest we've slept in yet - I almost wanted to ask what kind it was so we could get one for our flat back home :D Sarah was a great host, gave us loads of handy tips for the area as well as giving us a really lovely welcome. Watching the sun rise through the patio door as I read my book was an absolute highlight - we will definitely be back!

    Jo2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really well thought out and cosy accomodation. Sarah was a brilliant host and offered lots of suggestions for our stay. The accommodation is amazingly quiet and the opportunities to see wildlife from the windows is great. We loved the facilities and especially evenings in front of the wood-burner. The location is really good to see the island. Such a great stay. Thank you.

    Emma2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy comfortable cottage which is very peaceful, with lovely views. Sarah is a very welcoming host. I thoroughly recommend it.

    Brenda2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s cottage is lovely, very clean and comfortable. We cooked for ourselves and there was everything we needed. There is a really nice outside space and fabulous night skies due to no light pollution which was great. Would definitely recommend. 10 minutes drive from Bowmore for shopping and a short drive from either Port Askaig or Port Ellen. Would love to go back.

This is an artist's studio turned over to guests. The decor is neat and simple. Situated in a quiet private spot and overlooking the sea, the studio provides guests with total independence and has basic facilities for cooking. The village is a heritage site and has good places to eat out plus a local shop/post office/petrol pump. It is also a stop on the local bus route. Bikes are for hire nearby.
The accommodation is set on three levels: above at seaward end is a double bedroom with steps leading down to a mezzanine gallery running the length of the studio to a single bed alcove at far end. Ground level: shower room and the studio area beneath mezzanine gallery, which has sofa and comfy chair for relaxing, and kitchen with large patio door overlooking sea. At the kitchen end of studio, there is a shelf with artist's utilities - not meant for guests' use. A small garden is outside and there are folding lounge chairs available for sitting out. The kitchen contains basic equipment, with a fridge, and has an electric stove with hot plates and a microwave but no oven. There is no wi-fi on location but proprietor or nearby hotel can provide access to wi-fi.
The studio is situated in the heritage village of Port Charlotte. It is one of the prettiest villages on the west coast with stone-built white-washed houses most of which date from the 1830's when the village was founded in response to the need for housing during the clearances. There is an excellent Museum of Islay Life with a library of unique books on Islay and surroundings, as well as display of artefacts used in the olden days. There is also a Field Centre for Natural History and during the summer months, they organise family excursions to nearby sites like the rock pools at low tide. Islay offers amazing variety of activity including visits to eight different distilleries, to the RSPB where you can have guided bird tours, to the golf course, to riding, to sea fishing and even visits to the famous Corryvrechan Whirlpool at the north end of Jura (book ahead of time!). The beaches on the west coast of Islay are totally unspoiled - not all of them provide safe swimming, but some do, so please take advice about this!
  • Fantastic island hospitality from Cathy, great communication and going above and beyond when weather disruptions put our trip on hold. The space has character while also being extremely practical and comfortable. Well situated, next door to the shop and seconds from the nearest pub/restaurant. We spotted an otter directly outside the kitchen windows but maybe we got lucky!

    Vivienne2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy is a perfect lady who helped us a loooooot! The house is perfect, it’s cosy and clean and quiet and convenient. U and see the ocean through the window. Cathy helped to book a car for us, check the bus time for us and even drive us to the airport herself when there is no bus. I will definitely come back next year and this house is highly recommend!

    Jane2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place with amazing views, we watched beautiful sunrises every morning . It was clean and practical. It had no oven or freezer but we didn't miss them. There is no TV but we brought our own.

    Gillian2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cathy was such a kind and helpful host, and gave great advice on the best walks/beaches to visit. If you get a chance, buy some fish from the fish van which stops right outside the door on a Thursday morning, or you can also call at their kiosk in Bowmore-fabulous stuff! A lovely base from which to explore. Thank you again, Cathy!

    Rosie2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • The studio is in the most fantastic location - we could swim or paddle board almost from the door . Port Charlotte was lovely too. The studio is clean quirky and a really cool find , we would stay there again in a heartbeat ❤️

  • Well situated. There is a convieient store just up the hill. Port Charlotte Hotel is just a quick walk away, and serves AMAZING hamburgers. The view is gorgeous, and so close to the sea it can lull you gently to sleep. Absolutely lovely place. Bruichladden is quite close, and the mini-mart there serves some of the tastiest coffee.

    Jacob2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • A great location. Beautiful views. Comfy beds. Plenty of hot water. Cathy was great at giving us local insight of where to visit, eat and explore. We loved our time there and left feeling rested. Local hotel has live music 2 nights a week.

    Carlyn2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • A light and airy studio. Relatively modern open plan space which gave a much larger feel and was pleasurable to stay in. Nice French windows and comfy beds. Useful as a base rather than as a place to relax. Great location to explore the island, close to local amenities and pubs. Cathy provided useful instructions and local tips are on hand.

  • Andrew was a fantastic host. He personally greeted us and gave us honest restaurant recommendations as well as phoning up and booking tours for us since we didn't have UK phones with us. Property clean and perfectly located in Bowmore, shops and bars/restaurants all within a 5 minute walking distance. 100% would return.

  • The location is in Pomo, extremely convenient, nearby convenience stores, restaurants, rooms are very clean, washing machine, dryer, kitchen are all available, come to the island for four days, feel relaxed and comfortable, Angrew is very enthusiastic, if come to Ayre Island, you can live here, really good. Very recommended.

  • This house is the perfect place to stay on Islay. Located in the middle of the Island every place is reachable within a few minutes. Andrew has been a great host and made us feel very welcome from the beginning. We found a house where nothing was missing, nothing was broken and that was absolutely clean. The kitchen was filled with everything that you need for a full continental breakfast and - most surprisingly for us: The house got cleaned after the first day (even the towels got changed) though we only stayed for two nights. We definitely would like to recommend this house to everybody who wants to travel to Islay. Thanks again, Andrew. We will definitely return.

  • Andrew is a gracious, accommodating and helpful host. The space offered is wonderful and accurately portrayed in the profile, it is ideally situated for a visit of Islay and offers a view of the ocean! I recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay on the island and won’t hesitate to book it again when I return.

  • Wow! Best Airbnb experience I've ever had. Andrew has a great 2-bedroom place that is centrally situated for exploring Islay. The place was super clean and well appointed. Andrew was a great help figuring out plans to visit all of the distilleries that we wanted to see and for helpful recommendations for dining, etc.

    Gregg2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage was perfect in every way. Could not have asked for a better location. Certainly will return.

  • Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful location, highly recommended. The photos don’t do the cottage justice; it is super stylish and cosy, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay in the island. Andrew went the extra mile to make us welcome and help us get the very best out of our trip. Book it!

Check in was straight forward, and Jackie gave us some useful tips for things to do and see in Tarbert when our ferry was (really!) delayed. Highly recommend this place and host. Thanks for a great stay!

  • The house was in a great location, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. It was warm, clean and very comfortable. We ate in some evenings and the kitchen was well equipped and the open plan upstairs was a great place to relax. The view across the loch was amazing. Would definitely recommend.

  • This is a beautiful location and a wonderful apartment. There's plenty of room, and the place was super clean. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The price was a little bit higher than some places, but for us, it was totally worth it. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Iain's house in Bowmore was amazing. The three bedrooms were comfortable and nicely furnished so it actually felt like a home rather than a rental. The underfloor heating in the two bathrooms were very much appreciated. Appliances etc were all modern and high-spec and basics were provided to make simple meals easy. The best thing was the open plan kitchen/living space with a balcony that has spectacular views over the sea. The location is perfect, walking distance to the shops and many good dining options. It’s also a great base for exploring Islay as it’s a relatively central location. Iain was always quick to respond to any queries and very accommodating of our requests. I also found interaction with his caretaker very easy through our stay. She popped by very quickly – within 5 minutes – when we needed her help with the boiler one evening. Highly recommend.

The Old Schoolroom is a lovingly renovated victorian schoolroom. Centrally located on the island it is an ideal place to explore Islay, Jura and, in the summer months, Colonsay. Light floods in from the huge windows and the underfloor heating and wood burning stove will keep you toasty whatever time of year you choose to visit. The cottage has a walled front garden and off road parking, we have storage for bikes and sporting equipment. Living next door we are on hand if you need anything.
The Old Schoolroom has been renovated to offer all the comfort you would expect. The rooms are flooded with light from the massive windows, and the underfloor heating keeps you toasty warm in the colder months. There is a peat burning stove in the lounge with a bucket of hand cut Islay peat as a welcome. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, oil, garlic, herbs etc to make your stay easier.
The Old Schoolroom is located halfway between the villages of Bridgend and Ballygrant(2 miles from each). Both villages have a hotel, Bridgend has a general store and shopping at Islay House Square. Ballygrant has a coffee shop selling delicious home baking. The main village of Bowmore is 5 miles away. We are ideally situated for Ardnahoe, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila and Jura distilleries. You can walk to Bridgend through the woods and along the river on a private estate track.
  • A++ as advertised. Meri was a great host. The schoolhouse is easy to find and very comfortable. I would stay there again. She also made scones and told us we could have a late checkout if needed.

  • Meri's place is the most lovely cottage you could imagine. We were warmly welcomed by a very friendly and cuddly cat and later even more warmly by Meri herself with selfmade scones. Communicaton worked perfectly, the place is in superb condition and furnished with so much detail. We though about missing our ferry on purpose to stay a night longer. Thanks so much for having us!

    Fredrik2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot for a great morning view of the paps of Jura whilst having breakfast. A spacious and accommodating property which offers a great location to three of the distilleries and the port of Askaig, perfect for that must do ferry trip to the Isle of Jura! The Caol Lia distillery is closed for a major refurbishment until spring 2020 but we happily moved around the island from our location. The house itself is good value, a newly refurbished bathroom, good facilitated kitchen, large breakfast bar for eating with that super view and a cosy lounge with log burner and comfy sofas. The bedrooms are a good size, one of them has no heating but I’m sure that could be resolved very quickly if needed, the house itself has good heating and we weren’t troubled at all. Debbie is a very attentive host, super quick responses and a friendly manner.

    Iain2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous location overlooking the water and over to Jura. Super close to Caol Ila distillery (which unfortunately is closed until Spring 2020 according to the sign) and also not far to two other distilleries. Lovely place to relax after a busy day.

The Old Byre is a spacious, one bedroomed cottage to the rear of An Gleann, our home/business, 4 miles outside of Port Charlotte on the road to Portnahaven. It has its own private parking and secluded patio area to the side and back. Recently built on the site of our old byre, the cottage combines traditional features with bright decor and the home comforts we ourself enjoy. Set within our 2 acre garden, surrounded by forestry and farmland, this is the ideal place to come to relax!
Our cottage has varnished or painted wooden floors and rugs throughout. The bedroom has a kingsize bed and can accommodate a travel cot (Available upon request along with high chair etc.) The large living room has a freestanding wood burning stove and can be used as another sleeping area with one settee a double sofa bed. There is freesat television and lots of books and board games for rainy days! The bathroom has a roll top bath with an over bath shower. Our large kitchen/dining room has a breakfast bar and separate dining table. It has all the essentials and more, everything you need for a comfortable stay. Heating and hot water are provided by the stove and solar panel, or electricity if a quick boost is needed. There is parking for 1 car at the side of the cottage and a secluded patio area - a real sun trap - to the back with picnic bench and barbecue for when the weather is good.
We are surrounded by farmland, forestry and the sea! When coming to stay it is wise to stock up with everything you need for your holiday at the Co op (food store) in Bowmore or Port Ellen. We are 4 miles away from the nearest small shops in Port Charlotte and Portnahaven.
  • Cosy and private accommodation, ideal for couples. Comes with every amenity you can think of and was an excellent base for a long weekend on Islay. Jane has clearly put a lot of thought into making guests as comfortable as possible.

  • We had such a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage. I thought it looked spacious from the pictures but it’s much bigger than expected. It’s so well equipped with everything of high quality. It was really comfortable for a lovely week long winter getaway. The fireplace is so cosy and there’s a good selection of books, some games and movies. The kitchen had everything we needed and much more! The location was lovely and peaceful. We had a great time and I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Islay.

  • The Old Byre is a delightful, comfortable and very well-presented cottage within easy reach of all of the delights of Islay. It is modern, well-insulated and warm, tastefully furnished and decorated, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. As first-timers to Islay we picked it ‘ blind’ from AirBnB, not really knowing if it was a good location or not, and we were very pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in a lovely part of the island halfway between the villages of Port Charlotte and Portnahaven each of which is quaint and beautiful in its own way. And it doesn’t take long to travel further afield to Bowmore or Port Ellen, the two main island centres, where there are Co-op and Soar shops. We took all our food with us, but we saw small local shops in some of the other villages too. On arrival the log fire was lit with an ample supply of logs to ensure that we remained cosy and warm throughout our stay over a long weekend. All communications in advance of our arrival were prompt, friendly and efficient and we met Iain briefly when he handed us in a ‘What’s On on Islay’ leaflet, but otherwise, we enjoyed our rural isolation and felt completely private despite the fact that Iain and Jane’s own home is quite close to the cottage. We would have no hesitation returning to The Old Byre again and will be enthusiastically recommending it to anyone we meet who is planning a. Is it to the beautiful island of Islay!

Portnahaven is Islay's best kept secret. And the Anchorage is Portnahaven's. This modernised 200 year old 2 storey cottage has views over the bay, to the islands and open sea. Watch the sun set from the conservatory and you'll never want to go home!
Portnahaven is Islay's best kept secret. A handful of cottages huddled around a quaint wee sandy bay, where fishing boats moor and seals bask on the rocks. It's your perfect base from which to explore Islay's wealth of beaches, wildlife and distilleries. The Anchorage itself is set in a picture-postcard spot. Indeed it takes centre stage in many an Islay postcard! We reckon the house is around 200 years old and has been in my family for about a quarter of that. It is called the Anchorage because it is the last house in the village before you come to the boatyard and pier; where you can buy crab and lobster fresh off the boat if you speak nicely to the fishermen. During its lifetime, it has been used as a school and the local headmaster's house but to me The Anchorage is just the most beautiful place in the world. The house has a twin bedroom and a master with ensuite upstairs, a double downstairs and the living room has a double sofa bed. The newly fitted bathroom has an electric shower and underfloor heating. The big dining country kitchen has an electric hob and a big old table for family feasts. The living room has a real fire that you can throw some peat on after a hard day's walking (or whisky tasting!). The conservatory has open and breathtaking views of the lighthouse island (where an ancestor of mine, the Clan MacKay chief is buried). In simpler times, my uncle Malcolm used to swim his cattle across to graze on the island. Take a walk round the coast to the east past Finlay's rock (named for my cousin who capsized there whilst canoeing with my dad one summer!) and explore the pebble beach at Claddach or have a barbecue at Curry Sands. A stroll to the west will bring you past the well where my gran used to send me to get drinking water as a kid (don't worry though, the tap water is long since potable!). You've not walked far by this point but I recommend you stop at Burnside Lodge for awesome coffee and homemade cake all the same. This comes with the (pretty safe) guarantee that if you don't see a seal then your coffee is on the house! Once you're done here you can walk off that cake on the little coastal trail and then complete the circuit through Port Wemyss and back into Portnahaven. Back at the Anchorage grab a chair in the garden or settle yourself in the conservatory to watch the sun set spectacularly into the Atlantic, over a relaxing game of Scrabble. If you're not inclined to cook dinner then why not stroll across the bay and try the fresh crab claw salad at An Tigh Seinnse or venture a bit further afield to the Lochindaal Hotel in Port Charlotte to sample their famous seafood platter. Part of Portnahaven's charm is that there's not much there but you can pick up most daily needs in the local post office and general store at the head of the bay. For many years the Anchorage was a haven from technology, however we have recently relented somewhat and installed such newfangled luxuries such as a telephone, colour television and Wi-Fi broadband. There's also double glazing, electric heating, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. Parking for 2 or 3 cars right outside the front door. When I read her this description, Mum cried all the way through; "they won't want to leave" she sobbed. She's right, so be sure to book that extra night (or seven!).
  • This is my absolute favorite place to stay on Islay. I come back every chance I get. The sunroom alone is worth it (not to mention the fireplace!) It's a comfy, warm, wonderful place to stay.

  • Probably the best Airbnb I've ever tested... The raw, untamed nature of this part of the island is unbelievable. We feel so good and protected in this house which serves as a cocoon against the elements. You can find everything you need and from here you can reach some of the best whisky distilleries in the world in less than an hour, a must, I highly recommend it!

  • Very comfortable, warm and cosy house; well equipped and spacious. Beautiful views out to sea, with seals and birds right outside.

  • A great property in a superb location. Perfect for a fresh air country escape

  • Beautiful stay, fantastic views, cosy fire place absolutely brilliant!

  • The house was very comfortable and the view spectacular... we enjoyed watching the seals...WiFi was a bit temperamental but that seemed to be an issue throughout the Island

    Robert2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • It was awesome at anchorage. Such an beautiful tiny house. We‘re still so in love with view from the conservatory. Also the living room is so beautiful with the fireplace. Thank you also for the good and fast communication.

The beach is a short walk away across the grass and there is a safe garden. There is central heating and constant hot water. The house is set for 6 guests with bedding and towels. Cross Houses are in a very peaceful spot looking onto the shore.
  • Wonderful location, great house and well supplied kitchen

    Bert2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic stay in this newly refurbished house. Very comfortable, beautiful location and ideal for exploring the island.

    Amanda2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place in Islay with a fantastic view. Comfy and very well equipped, everything was perfect.

    Eric2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • We took a family trip across the UK and stayed at 3 different AirBnBs on this trip. Iain's Cross House in Brigend was by far the best AirBnB of the trip! When you walk in, you can immediately tell this is not just a vacation rental, but some place someone considers home. It was warm, inviting, and well thought out. The kitchen was easy to use as was the fireplace. We were primarily on Islay to visit the distilleries, and this was the perfect location, central to everything. Nothing was more than 20-30 minutes away. The views are also incredible at this house, and we wish we had had better weather to enjoy the outdoors more. We had a very lovely stay and would definitely stay here again on another visit to Islay!

    Jacki2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing house. Beautiful views, and a wonderfully modern renovation of an old stone house. The location is great - pretty central between a lot of places of interest. We loved just walking out along the Loch in the evenings.

    Christopher2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A great location right on the beach. Perfectly situated in the middle of the island. Very comfy with everything you need for a great holiday.

    Simon2019-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cross house east is the perfect location on Islay. If you are visiting the whisky distilleries, it is in the middle of the island so easy drives from the house to the distilleries. It’s on the beach so we enjoyed great walks along the sand. The house is beautiful and has modern amenities. My favorite things were the heated floors and towel racks. It has an amazing kitchen and a big refrigerator. Beds and linens were very comfortable.

    Jill2019-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cross House East is an absolute pearl on Islay. Recently refurbished, it’s modern but still cozy and atmospheric. The kitchen is huge, very handy and being one with the living space makes it perfect for spending time in the evenings, possibly near the fireplace. The location is very central, too so you can reach all the corners of Islay in less than half an hour drive. Absolutely recommended for Islay explorers.

Snowdrop cabin is set in a spruce plantation near the small town of Port Ellen. Snowdrop cabins interior is modern yet comfortable, whilst nestling into its calm and tranquil surroundings. Snowdrop is made up of a sleeping Mezzanine, kitchen area, a log burning stove, electric heating and a modern bathroom moving outdoors there is a gas BBQ, an electric hot tub and an outdoor decked area perfect for enjoying the view with a dram, Slainte. Karen & Richard
Snowdrop cabin is located approximately 5-minute drive from the town of Port Ellen which was founded and named in 1821 by Walter F Campbell who named the town Port Ellinor after his wife. The town has a few shops, a café, a restaurants and offers a sandy beach, tennis courts and bowling.
Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, one of our favourite walks only 15 minutes through an idyllic woods and along a perfect Hebridean beach from our cabin.
  • If you need rest and relaxation then this is the place for you! The location is perfect: so quiet with amazing views but also within walking distance of the town. The weather was wet and windy during our stay but the log burner kept us warm - very cosy! The hot tub was also a great way to relax after a day out walking. Karen and Richard were great hosts - very friendly - and the bottle of Prosecco on arrival was a nice touch. All in all it was a lovely stay and we would definitely come back.

    Della2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to relax and unwind over the weekend. Karen and Richard were very friendly & helped out when our ferry was changed. The place is lovely and has everything you need. We’d recommend to anyone visiting Islay and we’ll be back! Thanks!

    Mhairi2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, wonderful house and great hosts! The stairs were a little wobbly in the dark but other than that there is nothing we are able to fault! Strongly recommended for any visitors to the Isle of Islay.

    Edmund2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to unwind and give someone a special treat, just a lovely place to unwind and relax

    Amanda2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • As good of not better than it looks! (Which is amazing) morning crows were stunning. Hot tub was warm ready to go when we arrived along with the cabin heating already on and toasty. An incredible place for a couple of days. Highly recommend.

    Brendan2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay if you are wanting a chill out weekend. Once on the island there is plenty of brewery’s to pick from! But if your not a fan of whisky then there is a gin and wine! If you fancy just chilling for the weekend the hot tub is perfect for that and there is a beach about 20 minutes walk! Both rich and Karen are very helpful! And any questions you might have just ask away (I was in Belize and they still sorted me out!) Best Air B&B stayed one yet and very good value for money! Thank you very much guys!

    Robbie2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great stay at Snowdrop. It is really cozy, nicely decorated, has everything you need and was absolutely perfect for a weekend visiting the island! The location is great - walking distance from Port Ellen and off a quiet country road so it is very peaceful but handy for local amenities. Also a great base for the 3 distilleries walk (we walked to Laphroaig from the house in under an hour). Thanks for a brilliant weekend!

    Rhian&Tom2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Snowdrop is an amazing place on a beautiful island. It is clean and compact but with everything you could hope for and more inside. The fire makes the space cosy when it's blowing a gale outside and the hot tub is a great bonus. Karen shared some great local tips and the location just outside Port Ellen is convenient without feeling too close to the town. We would return without a second thought.

  • Perfect pod for a couple of days in Islay! Ron and Emma were amazing hosts and helped us when we needed to find a taxi after no luck on our own. Islay is very special and the people make you feel at home. Within walking distance to the main distilleries (we walked to Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg) and Port Ellen.

    Diandra2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Ron & Emma's pod was an absolute delight. This was our first time to Islay and we had an incredible time. The pod was very comfortable, set up with every possible thing we could need. The bathroom was a huge bonus! The pod being located opposite of the distillery trail (hooking up with Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg) served as a huge perk so we could walk to each distillery and enjoy the island by foot. Ron was very accommodating and kind; he greeted us with a dram of whisky and some friendly tips. We had an amazing time on Islay in large part due to Ron and Emma. Do not hesitate to book this little slice of heaven!

    Megan2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Isle Adilla pod was absolutely perfect for our stay on Islay. The space is just right for a couple, with everything you need and more space inside than the pictures suggest. We left the full bed in place the whole time and didn't have any issue. The amenities are a nice touch, and we appreciated the bit of breakfast materials provided by Ron and Emma. The location is gorgeous and perfect for anyone who likes a good walk. 15-20 minutes from town and right at the start of the 3 distilleries. We walked almost everywhere we needed to go, and grabbed a bus or called a cab for the rest. We even lucked out and got Ron as a guide at Ardbeg, which was good fun. The cabin stayed warm and cozy without issue, which was appreciated as the weather turned a bit more rainy. We wouldn't hesitate to book again, given the chance.

    Kate2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Ron's pod was wonderful. The pod itself was cozy and roomier than I expected. Ron was a great and accommodating host. The location is within walking distance of nearby distilleries as well as Port Ellen. Islay was a wonderful place to visit and staying at Ron's pod was an excellent choice. We'll definitely be back!

    Victoria2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here! Ron and Emma were great hosts, the view was stunning, and the location was perfect for visiting the nearby distilleries and Port Ellen. This was our first tiny house experience, and space was so well organized and had everything we needed.

    Carrie2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • This tiny house/pod is wonderful. Within walking distance to three distilleries and Port Ellen, the location couldn't be better! The house itself is comfortable, clean and cute. Ron was a great host who was warming, welcoming and knowledgeable about the island. He also is a tour guide at a local distillery, so his whisky taste is spot on.

    Colin2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very cute space at a great location on Islay. It definitely is a tiny home, but it’s also so thoughtfully modern with a sound system you can connect to your phone, plenty of outlets, heated floors, and kitchen basics. It was also in a great location— a 10 min walk to the Laphroaig distillery (and then onward to Lagavulin and Ardbeg), or a 20 min walk to Port Ellen. Wish we could’ve made the time to see more on the island!

  • Perfect location to stay while in Islay for a few nights. Walking distance to Port Charlotte and only a few mins drive to Bruichladdich Distillery. Catherine was such a thoughtful host and made sure we had everything we needed for ourselves and our 3 month old son. We will definitively be back and we know where we'll be staying when we do!

  • Catherine wee hoosie is a perfect place to escape and explore Islay. It is about a 10 minute walk into Port Charlotte and three excellent restaurants. Catherine is an excellent host with very timely responses and nice hospitality touches to the flat. The only mistake made was that we did not stay nearly long enough. I highly recommend booking Cathrine’s Weee Hoosie and take the time to explore the small island of Islay. Come for the Whiskey but stay for the people.

Corrary Cottage is a 2 bedroom cottage. Centrally located with easy access to all parts of Islay. Bowmore, the largest village on the island is approx.1 ½ miles from Corrary Cottage and Port Ellen approx. 10 minutes drive in the opposite direction. The cottage sleeps up to 6 guests. It has a large lounge with a Futon style bed settee; kitchen/diner with cooker; dish washer; microwave; separate utility room with washing machine; fridgefreezer; 2 bedrooms (1 double - 1 twin) Private parking.
The cottage is in a country location.....but is only a short 2 minute drive to Bowmore. You can walk into Bowmore but guests should be aware that there is no footpath and the road can be very busy especially in the summer months.
  • A lovely and homely wee place. Location good for being relatively central in the island if you're visiting the distilleries. We had a great stay and would return !

  • Fantastic

    Nathan2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, and spacious cottage. Islay was treating us with sunshine. We only really missed a decent (or just any) footpath to Bowmore. The road is really narrow and not nice to walk on. Maybe laggan estate could be inspired by the footbath out of Port Ellen. ;) A little mold in the bathroom, but really hard to keep mold out in a damp environment like Islay. Is found in many bathrooms in west scotland. But not a problem at all. Try to rent a bike if you dont want drive a car. You can flag down the bus on the main road.

  • We had the loveliest stay at Karen‘s place. Mary, Karen’s mother in law met us at the door and showed us about and gave us loads of tips for the island. There were three of us for two nights and there was more than enough room. The wee care packages were a lovely touch, it was so nice to be able to make a cup of coffee and have a biscuit as soon as we arrived. The location was perfect, a three minute drive to port Ellen and there are a couple of pubs and restaurants within walking distance and walking round the port at sunset is nice. The pictures don’t even do justice to how cosy the house is and the beds are so so comfortable. I wish I had pillows like that at home! Thanks so much for your hospitality and going above and beyond to make our stay memorable!

Beach at the bottom of the garden at the substantial character home that is Traigh Bheag East - a colourful mixture of old/new-NOT a sleek purpose built holiday house-on the Scottish Island of Islay. 9 single malt whisky distilleries, festivals, walking, cycling, birdwatching/wildlife, music and an almost private safe beach with uninterrupted views of the Antrim coast. Complimentary staples; Starter pack includes coal/logs; all linens (inc towels) provided. Oil fired central heating/open fire.
Traigh Bheag East (TBE), Port Ellen, Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland is first and foremost a family home. We hope you agree it has all the comforts you would expect from a much loved and valued home as opposed to a rented house. TBE is a large, spacious character property and is a colourful and creative mixture of old and new, not a sleek, contemporary space if that is your preference! TBE is in a totally unique location on Traigh Bheag (little beach in Gaelic), a small private beach that is owned to the high water mark by the five surrounding properties. In an area of the island rarely available for holiday lets, Traigh Bheag East has arguably one of the most sought after settings on the whole island with an idyllic little white, fine sandy very private beach at the bottom of the garden! Swimming is possible in safety as are all other beach and sea activities. TBE has a tranquil, relaxing atmosphere, which will very quickly lull you into the island way of life. It is a semi detached Victorian villa over three floors. The entrance porch has views to the sea with a traditional Stag's head on display. The ground floor has a kitchen (electric cooking/dishwasher/fridge), dining/living room (table for 6) with Freeview TV/firestick, games and books for use by guests and an inset stove for inclement weather or evenings. The house has oil fired central heating in addition to the stove and open fire. Off the kitchen there is a second shower room/toilet. The main sitting room (free view TV/firestick ) has an open fire and leads into a conservatory facing south west over to the pier where the ferry comes in, The Oa, Rathlin Island and the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland. 180 degrees of uninterrupted views of the sea and Traigh Bheag (wee shore). On the first floor there is a large shower room and three bedrooms - a king sized bedroom overlooking the sea, a twin room and bunk bedded room with a travel cot Free on site parking is available in the drive and the garden leads down to the beach which is beautiful all year round. From the conservatory there are 180 degree unobstructed views to the Antrim coast on Ireland, Port Ellen harbour, the photogenic Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, the awe inspiring cliffs of the Oa - the atmospheric haunt of Islay's magnificent Golden Eagle and Kilnaughton Sands, with its fascinating mediaeval chapel and graveyard. Free wifi with unlimited download available throughout the house. A unique setting with amazing views - sit and watch otters, heron, seals and much more from the conservatory. A warm, cosy colourful, comfortable mixture of traditional and contemporary, enclosed garden with gate that leads directly on to a beautiful safe beach. We have another property right in the heart of the village, a smaller two bed terraced house on School Street also beside the sea/beach but in the heart of the village that sleeps 4 comfortably with a fold down bed for occasional use by a 5th person - Peaceful Seaside Home - on Airbnb. PLEASE NOTE: I live next to Traigh Bheag East in a private section of the garden. My accommodation and studio are totally separate from the main house. I have a separate entrance to the beach and my garden is fenced off from that of the main house. Occasionally I will share the parking space with guests.
Traigh Bheag East is a special home. Unique setting, spacious, warm and comfortable place to relax and enjoy your time on Islay. Free wifi with unlimited download available throughout the house.
  • A wonderful Islay welcome. A joy to watch the otters from the window and look out at the amazing views over to Ireland. Very comfortable stay and hope to return.

  • Anne’s home is our favorite place to stay in Islay! It’s is so warm and cozy. The beds are comfy and the house has plenty of space. We particularly love the patio/sunroom. It’s the perfect place to watch the sun rise over the bay.

  • I cannot imagine a better place to stay on all of Islay. Amazing location on the beach and close to Port Ellen, great house and Anne was wonderful to work with.

    Paul2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely home to spend your holiday at with outstanding views of the Islay coast and wildlife

    Jayne2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • The views from the cottage, over the sandy beach to the Carraig Fada lighthouse and as far as the mountains of Ireland are simply unbeatable. It is the perfect spot, from which to explore not only Islay's renowned whisky distilleries, but also the the magnificent coastal scenery of the Oa Peninsula, with its isolated farmhouses and ancient churches. The conservatory made an ideal artist's studio, as well as a comfortable hide for observing seabirds and even a pair of young otters playing on the rocks. The cottage is comfortably furnished, with central heating and wood-burning stoves for colder days, and is a really cosy home, with Glasgow Art School touches, including several of the owner's own paintings. However, it is certainly not bohemian. The kitchen and laundry room are admirably well equipped, with every appliance and gadget imaginable. All in all, it is a great place to stay, with the added advantage of having one of the best seafood restaurants, Seasalt, in W. Scotland, as well as excellent eateries in the various distilleries.

    Henry2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Can't say enough about this wonderful house or beautiful Islay. If we could have stayed forever, we would have. We felt right at home in Anne's house and the location on the beach is perfect. We could walk into Port Ellen, or a short drive to Bowmore (or anywhere else on Islay, really). Great communication with Anne, who had lots of suggestions for our visit. We loved staring out at the sea from the conservatory, and we enjoyed sitting by one of the two fireplaces in the evening. We are already trying to figure out how we can get back to Traigh Bheag before too long!

An Conusg (Gaelic for Gorse) is situated on the beautiful West coast of Islay. Located at Ballinaby Farm, it is ideally placed to discover the stunning beaches of Kilchoman, Saligo and Sanaigmore. Set away from the main road and up a short farm track, the house has outstanding views over Loch Gorm . It is surrounded by fields where our sheep and cattle graze and with a large garden area is the perfect place to relax, unwind and watch the world go by on 'Islay time'.
The bungalow has oil central heating for those chillier Winter months and with plenty of living space can sleep six people comfortably. The accommodation consists of two double bedrooms both of which sleep two people and one twin room with bunk beds that sleeps two. A large kitchen area provides ample space for cooking, catering and entertaining, whilst the living room with its South facing windows has outstanding views over Loch Gorm. In additon to comfortable leather seating, it has a flatscreen TV, DVD player and Sky TV. Books, games and DVD's are also provided for your use. There is a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower cubicle. The spacious Kitchen/Diner has a Dishwasher, Tumble Dryer, Washing Machine, Fridge, Freezer, Electric Cooker, oven and tea and coffee making facilities. There is also an additional separate games room that has a TV, games console, selection of games and a sofa bed that converts into a large single bed if required. This is an ideal space for children or adults to chill out in if the weather is not quite good enough for exploring the island. Wifi is available throughout the house. A large private patio area with barbecue and seating is at the rear of the house and is a nice area to watch the sun setting over Saligo whilst planning your next few days adventures.
Located on a working farm, you can follow the day to day farming activities. With sheep and cattle being your neighbours. As we live in such a quiet area of the island, there is an abundance of wildlife that can be seen from the cottage, Golden Eagles, Corncrakes, Lapwings, Hen Harriers and Hares can be seen regularly. Not to mention the migrating Greenland Barnacle Geese that visit over the Winter months. Kilchoman Distillery is a short drive away along a picturesque road where you are more likely to encounter birds and wildlife than other vehicles. The quiet roads surrounding the farm are ideal for cyclists who would like to take advantage of seeing such beautiful countryside at a much slower pace of life.
  • Best host there ever can be. Sharon waited for us, because we get there late and lost a bit - and she found us. She even checked the ferry and let us know, that there was a different boarding port because of the weather. And the place is just outstanding. We will get there again, 2 nights were not enough.

    Robert2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic stay at the cottage - its in a great location with amazing views and the communication, hospitality and amenities were all first class.. Would love to come and stay again in the summer..

    Jonathan2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location. The cottage was warm and cosy. Our host was great, very understanding and flexible with ferry cancellations due to the storms. Huge front room overlooking the loch and all the fields filled with grazing sheep. It's a perfect getaway for just two people or the whole family.

    Rebecca2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • How to thank you for such a nice help! One day delay, one more hour for arrival and a broken tyre! We are very very thankful for our delighted stay in your lovely bungalow. Wonderful view, great beds, warm welcome, super equipped kitchen, it was just super !

    Emmanuel2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon is super nice and very responsive. The house was clean and she had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. It was perfect. She had plenty of utensils and a great kitchen to cook. She had some fun games to play at night. We particularly enjoyed the exploding kittens card game!! Check in and checkout was super easy and fast. She was very kind! We would definitely come back to stay again!

  • Big, modern, fully equipped, luminous, warm farmhouse with huge windows and views, just 1km inland from the spectacular west coast of Islay. An excellent base for exploring the island and for spending a wonderful time together. Very well set up for families and groups.

    Ian2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The best house I have ever rented: amazing location with glorious views over Loch Gorm, the sound of the sea when you go outside. Spacious, really comfortable and well equipped, spotlessly clean. Nothing not to like

    Vyvyan2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Sharon was the perfect host from the moment that we booked the cottage. She was so helpful when we arrived, giving us local tips and staying a while for a chat. The cottage itself was in the perfect location with huge windows in every room giving genuinely breathtaking views out over the loch without another person in sight. We were so lucky that we were staying in winter because we got to share the most beautiful sunrises I think I've ever seen each morning with the sheep and deer right outside the windows. As there were only two of us we had heaps and heaps of space, but the layout of the cottage would be great for a bigger party too as the kitchen and sitting rooms specifically are huge. The kitchen has everything you could ever need including tupperware for packed lunches which is a genius touch. We felt right at home and didn't want to leave.

  • Highly recommended. I stayed here last year, Susan was away but Bill was here and his hospitality was fantastic! I returned to Islay again this year (trust me, once you visit you soon realise once is not enough) and did not hesitate to book here again. I was finally able to meet Susan and the conversations we shared were delightful. I had some issues hiring a car and Bill was free for one of the days I was there so we enjoyed a day together exploring Islay, I can’t say thank you enough for this! All the best Susan and Bill, take care :-)

A very nicely converted traditional stone building which was originally a cattle shed. It is situated at the rear of 10 Charlotte Street, (Entrance to the Flats is from Back Road). The location means that while it is central, it is also away from the main road and is quiet. It is minutes walk from the shops, Hotel, Bistro, The 3 Distilleries Path and bus stop. A perfect location to be based while exploring Islay.
Perfect for friends who wish to explore Port Ellen and the Distilleries via the 3 Mile Distillery Path. Two minutes walk from both the Islay Hotel / Restaurant, Seasalt Bistro, The Ardview Inn and No.1 Charlotte Street Hotel. Three minutes walk from the Co-op Supermarket. The bus stop is on Charlotte Street.
Port Ellen is a small village so it is easy to find the Islay Hotel, Seasalt Bistro, Ardview Inn, No.1 Charlotte Street Hotel, Co-op Supermarket. Spar Shop and Post Office. The Distilleries are well sign posted. The 3-mile distillery path is lovely for walkers and cyclists.
  • Thoughtful little touches made the place an excellent night of respite to get our whiskey tours started early the next morning.

  • Our trip to Islay was cancelled due to Storm Ciara, but John was absolutely lovely and understanding about it. He stayed in contact with us as we tried to get another ferry and provided a full refund when we weren't able to. I'm still sad we didn't make it over, but, in the circumstances, John was the perfect host.

    Jessie2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing place to stay, John and Leslie were so helpful sending us directions and a map so that we couldn’t go wrong with finding the house. The house had everything we needed, they were really thoughtful and left us some supplies. The island itself is beautiful, would definitely recommend!

  • John and Lesley opened their family home to us and we were very comfortable staying there. It is just a few minutes walk to Port Ellen Main Street and this was lovely, supermarket and pubs/ restaurants, also just a couple of minutes walk and you are on the bay front and can sit and watch the sun go down. The amenities they provide are really good, including fresh breakfast ingredients, plenty of fridge storage and even use of their washing machine/drier and a dishwasher! We were able to save money and cook our evening meal and make breakfast. Islay would probably not be affordable for us without lovely people such as these opening their home to BnB. Highly recommended
