Places to stay in Lanark
Gorgeous cosy flat in a quiet peaceful neighbourhood. Only moved in 9 months ago so everything is modern and freshly decorated. You will have the whole flat and all the amenities to yourself. There are also double and single blow up beds available if required. I will be staying close by during your stay to help with any enquiries; if I'm not available one of my family will be. Close to M74. 5 min drive to Biggar, 15 to Lanark and New Lanark, 40 to Peebles, 1 hour to both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
You will have the whole flat to yourself.
Symington is a lovely quiet little village nestled in the Scottish countryside. There is a good swing park a few minutes walk from my flat. There is also a well-stocked convenience store and post office about 10 minutes walk away. There are 2 gorgeous country hotels within a few minutes drive which serve lovely meals - Tinto Hotel and award-winning Cornhill Castle. For those who love the outdoors Tinto hill walking trail is just a few minutes drive away and can be seen from my living room window! The river Clyde is also close by.
  • Great place to stay. Everything that you need and would be ideal for families too. Communication was excellent.

  • A really lovely little flat, clearly well-loved and most suitable for a family with a young child. Just a short bus ride from the Biggar Puppet Theatre, which we were visiting. Nice touches around the flat, and a really friendly and communicative host. Highly recommended. Five stars all round.

  • Jacqueline’s flat was perfect for a short stay. We stayed for one night when we were at a wedding in Cornhill Castle. Everything we needed was provided and it was spotlessly clean. The wedding venue was just a 5 minute taxi ride away. I would highly recommend Jacqueline’s flat, excellent value for money.

    Lesley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Its a lovely clean, quiet space. You wont be disappointed!

    Sarah2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very at home at Jacqueline’s flat. It was exceptionally clean and comfortable, had everything you need for a stay away from home in a very quiet location and we would highly recommend it. Thanks Jacky.

    Eileen2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • I had Jacquelines home to myself, it was like staying ‘home from home’ thank you.

    Andrew2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful one night stay here for a friends wedding at nearby Cornhill Castle. Jacqueline and her daughter welcomed us to the property and showed us how everything worked. Little touches like milk and eggs made a huge difference to how welcome we felt. It was so clear how much pride she takes in her property as it was immaculately clean and so well presented, with very stylish and well thought-out decor. Can't recommend highly enough!

    Iona2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, roomy and tidy flat, everything you need. A much loved space....even views at the back of the house towards Tinto Hill. Quiet area.

  • Claire’s place is great. Impeccably clean, well designed space, gorgeous house, great location & incredibly comfortable bed. We had been on a trip around Scotland & Claire’s was our last stop for a night before heading home so we really needed that comfy bed. Claire provided a cot & added bedding for our little boy too which was so lovely. He slept better than he had the whole week as well. At breakfast we were invited into Claire’s dining room which is a very grand place to have the lovely cereals she provided. She also cooked up some lovely porridge for our boy. Thanks Claire

  • Such a beautiful place to stay and the location within the city is perfect. It is quiet with an incredible view and still everything is in walking distance. Doreen is incredibly friendly and her recommendations for food and drinks were great.

    Katharina2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, very clean, great room, great breakfast and great host!

    Harry2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Doreen gave us a very warm welcome and the room is great. It was wonderful to wake up and glimpse the hills through the crenellations! The breakfast was delicious, and the space was beautifully clean.

    Sarah2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • A nice room with a wonderfull view outside. The room was clean and neat. Doreen was welcoming us with a cop of tea and was easygoiing. Manon

    Manon2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Doreen provided excellent hospitality for my stay. I could not fault it and will definitely stay there again when in the area. Great breakfast as well!

    Pete2019-05-18T00:00:00Z
  • I had a short but amazing stay at Dorren's. Her flat is unique, quiet, extremely clean, and I had an excellent breakfast! Doreen and her dog are lovely, thanks again for everything! I'll come back for sure

    Anne2019-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I came on a genealogy hunt only to find a second home! Doreen's energy, zest for live and warmness made me instantly comfortable. Even Breia the dog was warm and welcoming! That's not to mention the comfortable room, comfy bed, spacious closet AND a bathrobe. Which I took full advantage of. Breakfast was fresh fruit, tea, toast and more. I definitely didn't leave in the morning hungry. As a walker, location was great. Ten minutes to the train station (and a good grocery store) and twelve minutes to downtown. Even New Lanark was only a 34 minute walk. I loved the heritage building. Even with some construction the view was lovely and the building rich was history. I can't recommend this enough for a great space and a wonderful host.

    Stephanie2018-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is the 5th time we have booked a room in Doreens house for an employee working in the area. Doreen is a fantastic host, very helpful and great communication.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left Marion, and her husband James, made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The rooms, sitting room, bedroom and bathroom are spacious, beautifully furnished and everything you might need is provided. We really enjoyed our delicious, plentiful breakfast, which was served in the foyer where you can get a beautiful view out over the valley. • Wonderful stay in a lovely suite which was spacious and very comfortable. Great breakfast as well.

    Wendy2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute gem of a place to stay. Marion greeted us and made us most welcome, we hadn’t been in the house very long before she was making us a pot of tea (there was numerous types of biscuits to be had too)and having travelled from the Isle of Skye this was really welcomed. Marion suggested and booked a restaurant for dinner, even offering for her husband James to drive us there! We walked as being cooped up in the car for several ours we needed to stretch our legs, the restaurant was only a 10 minute walk away. The restaurant, Prego, was excellent. The accommodation is exceptionally comfortable and superbly finished with luxurious touches in both the lounge area, bedroom and bathroom. We have stayed in several Airbnb’s but have never been offered breakfast until now and what an excellent continental breakfast it was too - a selection of cereal, yoghurt, fresh raspberries and blueberries, toast, croissants, different types of jam and marmalade, orange and tomato juice and a pot of tea. Superb! We thoroughly recommend a visit to Marion and James’ home, they are a great couple who really want you to enjoy your stay with them. We will be back!

    Annie2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an absolute dream. From start to end we were made to feel at home, where Marion and James happily welcomed us in to their gorgeous home. Our suite was spotless and so cosy, and the welcome basket was much appreciated. We stayed for a wedding down at New Lanark, where Marion gave us a lift down to the venue. So kind! The comfortable bed at night was just what we needed when we got home. It was lovely to meet Marion and James. Cannot recommend this place enough! Thank you again!

  • Unfortunately we were unable to stay on 17.08.19 and Margaret very kindly offered for us the opportunity to stay at a later date which we were able to on 23.08.19. The only regret we have is had we known how great a host Margaret is and her beautiful house we would have stayed longer if time permitted. To truely benefit Margaret’s hospitality and what the area has to offer with its close proximity to Edinburgh and Glasgow by train, I would recommend a minimum stay of 3 days and we definitely hope stay there again. PS this is the best Air BNB we have stayed in.

  • This is our second time in a week on our return trip from the NC500 road trip. Warm welcome great hospitality, clean and new room, fresh vegetarian breakfast. We were also invited for evening supper which was lovely as we had traveled a long way from Gairloch via Fort William. A very big thank you to all volunteers at the eco farm. I highly recommend this space for a peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings.

  • We had a wonderful stay on route to North coast 500. Very warm welcome. We were also invited for the autumn color festival and offered vegan snacks. Delicious healthy vegan breakfast, clean new fresh room and shower /toilet. Eco farm. Very happy 😊 we're staying here again on our way back. Highly recommend it to solo travelers, couples, families. Beautiful place if you like calm peaceful stay.

    Renny2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful setting and what a friendly welcome. I was only stopping over for a night but I was warmly welcomed, invited to explore the grounds and invited to join everyone for dinner. I'll definitely be back.

    Richard2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first airbnb experience and i loved it. A religious tone was certainly there, but in a free and optional way. Great place and friendly people! Would recommend :-)

    Jurgen2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very unusual b and b. It's located in a Hari Krishna complex overlooking Lesmahago. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. However, if you are not vegan you need to bring your own milk and tea if you want an early morning cuppa. The vegan breakfast, served up the hill in the communal dining room was delicious. Be prepared to take your shoes off and wash your hands prior to eating as in India. There is much to see: a meditation temple and gardens and allotments. The place is very peaceful and the town of Lesmahago has places to eat if you need an evening meal . We were made very welcome by our host , Johnnie.

    Sanjiv2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great value for money. We were invited to dinner too. The room is very comfortable and clean and we would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.

  • Nice room, nice place, nice community

    Mathieu2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • You get a modern, spacious room with good beds. Everything is really clean, downright uncommonly clean for British standards, which we really enjoyed. For breakfast there is indian or porridge. The hosts are pronounced nice people. Highly Recommended.

Dipper Cottage is situated at the foot of Tinto Hill (hill of fire) near Loch Lyoch which is popular with hill walkers, ramblers and fishermen. Dipper cottage is set in a very quite relaxing location, ideal for hill walking, climbing, parascending and fishing on our own private trout fishery. We are approx 10 min drive to the market towns of Lanark and Biggar. Our location gives easy access to the Beautiful Scottish borders yet only 45mins drive to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
  • The cottages are remote being at the end of a private road, but the scenery is fantastic and the sense of calm and peace is lovely. We found our cottage very homely and it allowed us freedom on our trip as well as feeling more relaxed after a 7 hour drive. We had everything we needed and would happily stay there again if we were in the area.

    Christine2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The stay is a little far from the city, if you do not go with a rented car the truth is that I do not recommend it, but the landscape, the hospitality and the rest are wonderful. Nothing to object, would return without hesitation.

    Lucas2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Munro’s cottage for my grandparents who were visiting relatives in Biggar. We were provided with accurate directions which helped them to find the place without any hassle. Munro’s mum was very nice to them and was available in case they needed help with anything and the cottage was very clean and in a lovely location. Thank you for a great stay!

    Hannah2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Arrived later in the evening than planned but still received a lovely welcome from Munro's mum who lives on site. Amazing peaceful location and only a 10-15 minute drive from Lanark. Anyone staying at the cottage can get a pass for £10 to fish at the owners trout fishery. The cottage warms up very quickly with the heating on so I imagine it would still be suitable even in the winter months.

    Lewis2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Dipper Cottage as accommodation whilst we were working in the area over a weekend. The cottage is in a lovely quiet location and everything was very clean. There are plenty of pots & pans, crockery and utensils in the kitchen. There is no private garden but there is a nice wooden seating set on the front decking overlooking the main cottage garden. At night, we had a great view of the stars and we loved watching the bats swooping overhead. Gwen was very helpful when we needed something to treat a minor burn and we had some lovely chats!

    Bev2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely welcome and place to stay in a beautiful location of Scotland. Really enjoyed our stay

    Amy2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was clean and comfortable and the location was beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommended.

    Jaap2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We were looking for a place which was accessible (we have a wheelchair user in our group) and yet uniquely Scottish and it was both! It also had a big plus of being a lovely 40 min drive from Edinburgh, and 20 min from Biggar, where we found a picturesque downtown with great country pubs, shops and amazing Indian food/:) Our host was lovely supplying us with tea and great tips and going an extra mile when lightening blitzed TV! While this was a quick 2 day trip for us I would love to come back for a walking holiday.

  • Would highly recommend staying here. The apartment is spacious and very close to town. The only warning would be the stairs if you have difficulty with those, but we would definitely stay again. Laura was very helpful, responding to messages very quickly and had left a lovely welcome package including milk, bread and butter.

The excellently appointed kitchen had everything to make cooking a breeze and it was great to be able to do some washing. It's right in the middle of Edinburgh and Glasgow for easy driving or rail trips and is in a lovely part of Scotland well worth exploring. Parking was easy for our hire car. We'll be back.

This is rustic living in an old byre conversion, 2 Double beds and 2 Single beds. This is open plan kitchen and dining, on a working farm. 2 miles from the market town of Strathaven. aprrox 20 miles from Glasgow and 40 miles from Edinbrugh. We are environmentally friendly our water comes off the hill, Bottled water will be provided for drinking.
Guests can self cater for themselves, and have the use of the kitchen. Tea and coffee is available.
Strathaven has a number of coffee shops and a large park which has various activities throughout the year.
  • The Old Byre is a wonderful converted byre attached to the main farm house with a separate drive way access and parking. Spacious, modern and yet cosy with an amazing staircase to the upper level. Need to use bottled water for drinking and cooking but beyond that its brilliant and was just what we needed and for us it was in the right area too. Not too far from Strathaven and other villages around the area.

    Catherine2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Do not use the postcode to navigate, full instructions would be given. Warm welcome from Joan and her husband when we arrived. It is what you can expect with a converted barn. Rustic with farm animals in the neighbouring fields. Very spacious for 6 adults. Clean sheets and towels provided. Sealed concrete floor so it is not dusty or damp. Adequately equipped kitchen if you enjoy dining in. Log burner is a nice touch. Tap water is water collected from the mountain, it is suitable for washing and shower. For cooking and drinking, it is better with bottled water. Short drive to the supermarket in the nearby town is convenient. WIFI is intermittent while we stay. This may do with the distance to the exchange. Mobile phone reception is excellent. Joan is an experienced host with exceptional local knowledge. Excellent communicator and very willing to accommodate. The barn is well positioned as a base to further explore Scotland.

  • The Tinto hideaway was superb accommodation, i would happily stay there again and would highly recommend to anyone as a place to stay. The accomodation was clean & organized throughout. Siobhan was very helpful and made sure that we knew where everything was . The teabags, muffins and ginger biscuits were a lovely touch and much appreciated.

  • Great hoast and quick to reply to any questions about the location. Welcoming host and the place was very clean. Will stay again if in the area.

  • Tinto hideaway was a really nice accommodation. Everything was clean & organized. Siobhan met us at checkin, made sure that we knew where everything was and answered all of our questions. The croissants and ginger biscuits were a delightful to go with many other personal touches throughout. Our kids loved the upstairs bedroom and the spiral staircase. There were lots of books for those rainy days. We were able to drive to the Helix/Kelpies and Falkirk wheel with no problem. We also recommend Prego in Lanark (Italian) as an alternative to delicious fish and chips.

    Russell2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is attached to the owners house, but it is completely separate, with its own door. Great having 2 bathrooms! I would suggest older (sensible) children only, as the spiral staircase is great, but not advisable for small kids. It's 3 minutes walk into Lanark, but in a quiet cul-de-sac. We went to Edinburgh from Manchester, and it broke up the journey well (its handy for Glasgow too!) Host provided bath and hand towels for all, and tea/coffee/milk/etc - everything you might need. There are also some great books! Fully recommended.

But seriously fabulous apartment, lovely and clean, bright and contemporary, with loads of space and the bonus of outdoor space for dog or sitting out in good weather. • We were very well received, the room was spacious and comfortable. Perfect for a stopover!

    Félix2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We stopped off at Krishna eco farm on way to north Scotland for an overnight break and found it easily with an easy welcoming stopover. Clean spacious comfortable ensuite family room. You will need to respect the house rules but these are clearly stated at time of booking and no big deal for a short stay. Breakfast was delicious if a short walk or car ride away. Would use again.

  • We were family with 4 kids. The place was large enough to easily sleep all of us. The host was quick to respond to any queries we had, very nice, and ensured we had everything we needed. The breakfast came with the stay and was very good.

    Tarou2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This Krishna Conscience eco farm is absolutely beautiful! We had a great night in the clean, cozy room. And we really enjoyed the full vegan breakfast, and walking around the stunning eco farm. It was a profoundly spiritual space, and I’m happy we stayed. =)

  • Lyndsey was a great host with excellent response time to any questions l may have had. The flat itself was like a home away from home for me - as l had been on week long course. There is no shortage of local shops and restaurants within walking distance to the flat. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting in the area to stay at Kilwuddie Mill without a doubt.

    David2018-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lyndsey's place was perfect for our needs on a long journey north. It was late and freezing cold outside when we arrived but Lyndsey had put the lights on, closed the curtains and made it super cosy for us. The facilities and extra touches were much appreciated. We weren't quite sure where to find the flat when we got to the street but may have just missed the detailed info online. We would certainly stay again.

    Jane2018-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Located in a beautiful little town with great pubs and restaurants. Lyndsey was a superb host and ensured I settled in ok. It’s a great Flat. Comfy bed and easy to use appliances. I look forward to going back soon.
