Family-friendly holiday rentals in Hillcrest, San Diego

Lydia was a very responsive host and was really easy to communicate with. We were a little skeptical because we knew we would be staying on the property where she lived with her family and were worried about privacy but the cabin is very private and although we naturally bumped into Lydia and her husband a few times, they did not spend any time out their back yard (where the cabin is located) for the duration of our stay so we had the place and the yard pretty much to ourselves which was great. We didn't realize how far away we would be from shops and restaurants. It is about a 20 minute walk to the nearby town so we did spend a lot of money on ubers but that was our own fault for not doing our research beforehand. Overall Lydias place is very clean and had everything we needed for our stay, she even had some stuff in the fridge and cleaning products which was really convenient. Thank you Lydia for a lovely stay.

Simon was a great host and provided more amenities than we thought! The decorations made the place feel warm and inviting. The walk to the beach was literally only a few minutes and we were able to walk to some restaurants and markets down the street easily. Overall I would highly recommend this place!

We enjoyed our stay with our 2 kiddos. Easily walkable to the beach and restaurants (Azucar is a MUST for coffee/pastries) and it was awesome having the wagon and beach chairs. Hot tub was great.

Amazing stay at La casita !! Scott was an amazing host , had a binder of stuff to do locally and super attentive ! Will definitely be staying at La casita soon again

The VIEWS!!! Absolutely breathtaking. We could’ve spent the entire trip just soaking in that ocean view—it was seriously next-level. From sunrise to sunset, it was pure magic. We absolutely loved Kate’s place and Kate herself! She was the best host we’ve ever had. The property was beautiful, peaceful, and had such a fun, quirky charm that made it feel like a hidden gem. The bed was insanely comfortable, the robes were perfectly cozy, and the coffee? Delicious. The art supplies and hot tub facing the ocean were truly to die for—I didn’t even want to leave to explore San Diego because I was so content right there. We slept with the back door open to hear the waves crash all night long and let the ocean breeze in. The neighborhood felt super safe and had such a great vibe. We already know we’ll be back to see Kate every year. No doubt about it.

The space was perfect for our family. Great sized full and clean kitchen even though we didn’t need to use it a lot. Lots of space for us and our 3 kids, and we appreciated the toys and baby high chair+pack n play! The kids really enjoyed the back yard space. We only saw the neighbors in passing so the space was basically all ours during that time. Hosts were very friendly! Location was close to everything we needed. No issues with the street parking. We would definitely stay again!

Zapher was a great host. He was very friendly and proactive in communicating and his dog is also very sweet if you are a dog person :) The property is beautiful and very quiet. The house itself is comfortable and has very interesting architecture and design. Great location very close to Balboa Park and Old SD.

David is exactly what the reviews said about his responsiveness. My family and I can say this was our best experience ever in San Diego. We felt at home and this experience made it easy for my wife and I to conclude that when traveling with our young kids, we would be better off reserving an airbnb with a great host like David. Thank you once again for your hospitality, David.

We had a wonderful stay at this cozy little cottage! The space was thoughtfully stocked with common personal care and household items—perfect for those little things you might forget while traveling. We also really appreciated the extra touches like snacks and coffee, which made us feel right at home. One of the best parts was how accommodating the hosts were to our fur babies—it’s always a relief to find a truly pet-friendly spot. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay!

We really enjoyed our stay. So much it was hard to leave! Great location and easy to walk to nearby sites. It was so great to be back in PB again. I’d recommend Richard’s place to anyone!

We had a fabulous time at the Granny Flat! Everything was pristine and Kristen has thought of every amenity. She was kind and responsive. We loved the peaceful backyard with gorgeous views. The location is super convenient and a max of 25-30 mins to anywhere else in the SD area. Our pups had a great time, too! Would love to stay here again!

Kathi and Byron are great hosts and the place is beautiful, exactly as described. We had a great time, the place is very close to everything, there is a liquor store just 1 block away, very comfortable bed, beautiful garden 😃😃😃😃 Thank you very much Kathi, we hope to come back soon to San Diego and we will definitely book your place again.

Olga was a great host , she and her son were very welcoming , kind and communicative. She talked to us about a lot of things on gardening and was kind to share some of her plants with us. The house was perfect for a small family including a dog and was tastefully decorated with antique pictures and paraphernalia. The area in an interesting quaint neighborhood and we loved walking to the restaurants around there for food and deserts .

This is such a gem located just a few blocks from Ocean Beach. You can’t beat the price/location. We didn’t have to move our car all weekend, everything we needed was walking distance to Edwin’s place.

This was my first AirB&B stay, and I was very pleased! The instructions were easy, and I felt at liberty to go in and out without disturbing anyone. The kitchen was great for cooking up basic meals and saved us on the eating out budget. Most things were well-stocked and the appliances were in working order. We had an issue with the TV, and the hosts were quick to check things out and found a very generous solution for us. Good thing, because we enjoyed ending our days with some movie time. You will not struggle with parking, and the outside patio is just wonderful! Some things to note: People are allowed to bring pets, so you'll probably find dog hairs on the outside furniture. The table inside is a bit small so we ate most of our meals outside. This worked great with the wonderful weather we had, but it might be less fun otherwise. You can also sometimes hear sounds through the shared wall, but nothing that disturbed our sleep. In summary, I would stay here again.

We are so grateful to have been able to stay at Gwynn's place, it is so peaceful and lovely. Like a secret garden getaway. We loved all the small touches, and beauty of the space. Gwynn made us feel very welcome and comfortable! The pool is amazing and the outdoor spaces are delightful. Can't wait to stay here again.

A perfect place for our family during our short stay in San Diego. Clean, comfortable, conveniently located and excellent value. Teri also went above and beyond and we really appreciated her proactive help.

Anthony’s apartment was just what I needed for my adult son and me. 2 twin beds in the living room worked well as another bedroom without the cost of a 2 bedroom. The kitchen is small but had all we needed to make bfast in the mornings. Helpful to have a parking spot in back and washer dryer in unit. I really enjoyed the location next to an urban park, pretty neighborhood for walks, and short walk to restaurants and coffee shop. Anthony was super helpful when we arrived.

The apartment was so close to all the restaurants and easy to get to anywhere within around 15 minutes drive. Tina was an amazing host and on hand to answer any questions.

Quiet location, exactly as pictured and described. Parking could be a challenge if you have a large vehicle but being able to park in the garage made it easier. Great communication!

We loved staying at Wil’s place. The place was amazing, cozy and everything we wanted for our family. We loved the aesthetic, and the pool was so fun to play in. It was quiet but close to everything we wanted to do, so it was the perfect place to come back to after a long day out. The host and hostess were amazing, friendly and extremely helpful. We can’t wait to visit again.
