Ryokan holiday rentals in Honshu

Seiko’s place feels like a home. It’s pretty and quirky and cozy enough that every afternoon during our 5 night stay, my husband and I, along with our two teens, would head back to the apartment to put our feet up for an hour or so before heading back out. The shower has great pressure and plenty of hot water. The air conditioner works well and we were happy to have it for a summer visit in Kyoto. The location is great for getting around but also quiet. Things to note are that the bedrooms get bright in the morning and that the traditional beds may be uncomfortable if you like a soft bed.

Logement très sympathique, nous y avons séjourné à 4 sans aucun problème. Il est bien situé, pas très loin de la gare, idéal pour les escapades la journée. Possibilité d’accéder à des konbini à 5/10 minutes de marche. 2 vélos étaient mis à notre disposition si nous le souhaitions. La pièce principale est très grande et très jolie. Le logement est entièrement climatisé, idéal pour les nuits un peu chaudes ou froides. Les 2 chambres étaient très propres et confortables. Assez grand pour ne pas que l’on se marche dessus les un les autres à 4. Le petit bain extérieur quant à lui était une touche très agréable. Il était très facile à préparer et à utiliser. Tout est bien indiqué dans un livre sur la table lors de l’arrivée (pour les climatisations, les fonctionnement de la machine, etc…) Petit bémol, les escaliers sont assez abrupts, presque de l’escalade. N’est donc pas recommandé pour les personnes âgées par exemple. En conclusion, logement propre, joli, spacieux, bien situé.

A must-stay in Kyoto! Staying in this traditional Japanese house was an unforgettable experience—something you absolutely have to try when visiting Kyoto. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the station, making it super easy to get around the city. The house was spotless, and the host was incredibly responsive and accommodating. They helped me store my luggage before check-in and even let me stay an extra hour on checkout day, which was a huge help. Highly recommend—wonderful host and a truly special stay!

Nice house in a quiet neighborhood. Location gives fantastic access to the city through the Green Line (Karasuma). Easy to access from Kyoto Station shinkansen. Less than ten minute walk to the Aeon Mall. All facilities in working order. The washing machine is very useful in extending the usefulness of your carried clothing.

We had a wonderful stay at the Cozy Cottage. The house was very clean and spacious. For us, the best part was the location. It truly felt like we were locals living in the community where Cozy Cottage is located. All of the staff were also very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time, and the stay definitely made our time in Kyoto extra special. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace in Kyoto.

I wish I could’ve stayed longer ! Everything was perfect during my stay, it’s a very peaceful and quiet place, and we’re not too far from the center of Kyoto It was my first time sleeping on a futon and this is honestly very comfortable ! I’ve got welcomed by Mrs. T (I don’t know if I’m allowed to say her name in the review), she was so sweet and kind, she showed me some food recommendations, and brought my breakfast in the morning Thank you so much again for having me, and I hope to come back soon ! ☺️

We stayed here for few days during our Japan trip. The house was beautiful and you can get a true guesthouse experience. Location was good, in a quiet neighborhood and not too far from public services and some good temple sights with almost zero crowds. Owner was very kind and responded quickly to any questions. Book this if you want to experience living in a traditional Japanese residence.

Great Machiya stay with a traditional feel, but with modern amenities such as heated floor! Also perfect location to explore Kyoto. Tokuji san was always very responsive during communications. Overall, highly recommended!

Katsuya's home is absolutely gorgeous. Every detail is so well considered. He has left a biography of the artists whose work is in the house, and a brief history of the renovation as well, which I found fascinating. Nothing is overlooked. A wonderful experience.

This house is located in a fantastic location, only a 6 min walk from the nearest station. Shiho, the host, was very accommodating. She greeted us as we arrived and gave a house tour. She also asked how we were going and made sure everyone was okay, something that is rarely done for Airbnb hosts. Everything in the house was clean and organised, the beds and futons were comfortable, and overall we had a great time staying at this place.

Wonderful arcade setting with great shops & restaurants, and easy canal-side walking to Gion and Kiyomizudera. Great public transport at top end of arcade to other parts of the city. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic stay at this place! We were a family of 4, and it accommodated us perfectly. The beds were comfortable and cozy. The location was ideal for us—close to many things, but in a peaceful part of it. The place is tastefully decorated. Having access to a washing machine with dryer was so helpful! And most of all, our host was so kind, helpful, and friendly! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

Sehr schöne, traditionelle Unterkunft, sehr liebevoll geführt. Das Frühstück war Japanisch traditionell und sehr gut.

Wir hatten eine gute Zeit im Takanoyu. Die Unterkunft ist sehr gemütlich. Die Lage direkt über dem Sento gibt einem gute Gelegenheit mit Leuten aus der Nachbarschaft, ins Gespräch zu kommen 😊, im Bad, aber auch im Vorraum bei einem Bierchen. Hiroto-san, seine Familie und Mitarbeiter sind super hilfsbereit und sehr liebe aufgeschlossene Menschen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Empfehlenswert 😁!

Such an amazing host! The space is so beautifully and thoughtfully decorated. In the common space, there is a traditional Japanese garden that is stunning. They use a lot of incense too, making it so calming. You also get a traditional Japanese breakfast in the morning! You get your own room/bed, with shared bathroom. We went in the summer and thank God, there was AC in our bedroom. There's also so many family-owned restaurants in the area. We ate at so many hidden gems. All in all, incredibly worth it.

Staying at this AIRBNB was an amazing experience. The host was on top of everything, and was so nice. 👍 I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for an escape from the city. The surroundings were breathtaking.

Chieri en haar moeder en hun schattige hond zijn hele lieve hosts die er alles aan doen om je verblijf een echte authentieke Japanse ervaring te laten zijn. Hun huis is prachtig ingericht, ruim en voelt heel fijn en gastvrij. Het café en de biertuin van Chieri zijn ook zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Het eten en drinken en het gratis Japanse ontbijt waren heerlijk. En als je nog authentieke Japanse souvenirs zoekt zijn die hier ook te vinden. Al met al een perfecte plek om even tot rust te komen na het bezoeken van de drukke steden als Kyoto en Osaka.

非常非常漂亮的日式町屋！就是日本电影里的房子！也很干净！就是隔音不太好，但是非常值得！

Ich hatte eine wunderbare Zeit in der Wohnung von Miko. Das Apartment befindet sich in einer Anlage die aus mehreren Wohneinheiten besteht und diese sind alle im traditionellen japanischen Stil eingerichtet. In allen Bereichen wurden nur hochwertige Materialien verwendet, so dass man sich sehr wohl fühlen kann. Der Garten ist schön und gut gepflegt, die Mitarbeiter sind freundlich und aufmerksam, ich kann mich nur vollständig positiv zu meinem Aufenthalt äußern. Ich empfehle diese Unterkunft allen Reisenden, die sich für Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit entscheiden, nach meiner Einschätzung gibt es, neben einem Tempel auf dem Berg in der Nähe, keine besonderen kulturellen Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe.
