[House Story] This house was born out of a childhood dream of living in a Nordic home.It all started with my longing for a cozy cabin and the tranquility of nature, like something out of a story. After living in Sweden and New Zealand, I returned to Japan and, together with my husband, Andy, took over a cottage that was scheduled to be demolished just one month later. This is an entire old house [Kokoro-]. It will be a private house for one group per day where you can feel the rich nature of Shiga Prefecture and enjoy rural life. It is an old and calm space that can accommodate up to 10 people. Please relax with your family and friends. It is about 1 hour by car from downtown Kyoto, and if you come by train, it is about 20 minutes by bus from Azumikawa Station on the JR Kosei Line, and 10 minutes by taxi. It is popular with overseas customers, families, and groups. BBQ set (equipment) is available for a fee, so please feel free to contact us. Free parking on premises. Parking is available for up to 3 vehicles if it is a regular car. In case of large cars, please contact us in advance as it may be difficult for 3 cars. If you consult us in advance, we can also rent it for a fee. We also rent bicycles for free. 　This 300-tsubo rental villa is limited to one group per day and is surrounded by nature at the foot of the Hakusan Ski Resort in the Lake West area of Shiga Prefecture. In winter, spend the day with a warm wood stove. Firewood is available free of charge, mainly sawtooth oak and beech. We will carefully explain how to use the stove at check-in. Please use it with peace of mind. 　On the south side of the villa, you can spend a quiet time with a hammock and bench in the sawtooth oak forest. On the east side is a barbecue corner, a long garden, and a wooden deck. On the north side, there is a sawtooth oak forest and you can pick chestnuts in autumn. Nearby popular spots include Heisu Osaki, one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan in spring, Lake Biwa in summer, a huge avenue of Metasequoia trees, one of the 100 best street trees in Japan in autumn, and Hakushin Shrine, a power spot with a large torii gate floating on Lake Biwa, is also very popular in winter. This is a newly built (March 2026) private villa surrounded by nature near Lake Biwa in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. You can relax and forget about everyday life in a quiet environment. You can also reach the shore of Lake Biwa in about 5 minutes on foot, so please take a stroll. Since it is a completely private rental, you can enjoy a private stay without worrying about your surroundings. It can be used by couples, married couples, or up to 3 people with friends. For a comfortable stay, we use Simmons mattresses for the beds and Airweave for the sofa beds. It is also equipped with a high-speed internet environment, so it is recommended for workations. There is parking for 3 cars. There is also a restaurant nearby that serves Omi beef, and you can enjoy teppanyaki made with Omi beef.

Haruya Guesthouse

Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.

YAMANOTE HOUSE is accessible from major Kansai stations with 37min from Kyoto Sta. or 65min from Osaka Sta. If you come by car from Kyoto it takes less than 1 hour. The area aournd the house is once small castle town. The house is located next to the Shrine, Hiyoshi-Jinja, where the Omizo Festival is held on May 3 and 4 every year.
