Kid-friendly holiday rentals in Ambleside

Lovely house, great views, within 30 mins drive to all main south lakes sights. Communication and check in all very easy and clear. We had a great stay :)

The house was really spacious and I'm an ideal location - a quiet road but within walking distance to the village with great places to eat and convenient shops.

We have had a lovely stay at the boathouse which was just amazing! The boat house its self is beautiful, clean and comfortable with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! It is very well equipt, plenty of towels, blankets and even robes. We loved the hot tub with views over the lake. The location of the boathouse was just perfect for us and the views were stunning! We took our own paddle boards and was so happy to be able to launch straight from the jetty to explore the lake. My daughter also loved feeding the ducks from the jetty. We have had a busy few days on local bike trails, hikes, paddle boarding, boating and having some lovely meals out in beautiful Bowness, but always looked forward to returning to the boathouse! We will definitely be returning! Thank you

We had a lovely, comfortable stay, and the accommodation was clean and very well equipped. The location was great as it was approx 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Ambleside in one direction and about the same fom Lake Windermere in the other direction, and there were scenic walking routes from right outside the front door. We went by train and bus, and with a pre-arranged delivery from a local supermarket, it all worked really well.

The drive to the cottage from easedale road, with around 5/6 gates, didn’t phase us at all. I wouldn’t recommend driving along the tracks in a hatchback, but in an SUV it was fine. Also currently in the middle of a drought, so no wet mud to contend with. As I’m young and fit I just jogged between the gates while husband followed in car behind. Check in was fine, the usual key box as with most Airbnb’s, which I prefer over a physical host. Cottage was great, lovely place, gardens and views amazing. It didn’t quite say in the listing, but the whole garden is shared with the other property - it’s massive so space isn’t an issue, it’s more that with dogs this means you have to be constantly watchful which isn’t relaxing - if there was a boundary like a small fence with chicken wire, you could let the dogs roam in peace with the doors open. The mattress was way too hard on the kind size bed for preference, and the other property had a 30 min shower at 2am so I didn’t sleep well sadly.

The venue is stunning, the photos do not do it justice! Everyone has everything the need in each room with their own en suite and the grandness of the building is something else! You have so much space, the large garden area wraps around back and side and is beautiful with stunning views! Everything you could need in the kitchen and welcome bottle very kindly provided by our hosts! Plenty of entertainment and eating areas! When leaving one of our cars broke down and they were very understanding and accommodating! Perfect location, made our stay extra special!

Great air bnb, well worth what we paid, in a fantastic location. All amenities provided and the prosecco on arrival was a lovely touch, wouldn’t hesitate to stop here again!

We had a great stay at Joseph’s house. Check-in was very easy, the house was very clean and well-equipped with tea, coffee and even dog treats. Beds were really comfy and the place itself was so central. We’d definitely stay here again!

We had a lovely stay; the location is wonderful, surrounded by farmland with baby lambs overlooking the seating area! The apartment is very well specced and looked after, with a small garden house further up the hill opposite and an amazing river a short walk across the fields where we went for a swim. The photos do not do the property justice, it is a gem. Would definitely come back to use as a quiet base to explore the lakes from again.

We stayed here for 5 days the place is in prefect location 5 mins walk into town with great boozers and restaurants Kim is such a friendly person if the was any problem or advice she was only a phone call away Just like to say thank you again Kim🙏🏼🥂

It was the first time for 15 years my wife and I , had a break away on our own. I could not of chosen a better place to stay, or a better host than Liam. He helped to make it a weekend to remember! We give him 6 Stars, because the whole experience was worth a 6 Star categorisation ! And I am NOT easy to please 🙏🏽

This was one of those places that you would wish to keep a secret. The views are breathtaking, the area is quiet, perfect for a retreat for people willing to charge their batteries from their busy lives. It's a bit off the beaten track, so you need a car or a taxi from the train station to get there, but you can rest from the busy touristic towns of the Lake District. Jeanette was a very discreet and lovely host. She furbished the place with great care. Thank you Jeanette for hosting us, your place was a dream come true!

Robin is an exceptional host with a just as exceptional home. We ended up arriving later than anticipated at the dead of night, and also had some car issues (which he ended up rescuing us!) and he went beyond what a host would ever be expected to do. As well as providing helpful pointers on where to go & what to do. The place itself is absolutely beautiful, exactly like the photos. The log burner really makes the space for when you get home late and just want to relax and unwind. I can’t recommend this place enough, for the actual space and for what you get with Robin as a host who clearly cares deeply about his BnB and making guests feel welcome. Thanks and looking forward to coming again soon!!

This bijpu bedsit is perfect for a single person. Peaceful and private, and with everything I needed. The bed was really comfortable, and the whole place was immaculately clean. I was really happy to see environmental measures in place. The location is perfect - spot on for accessing this part of the Lakes, with so many beautiful spots within easy driving distance. Kath's communications were clear and friendly and fast. I would recommend this accommodation and its owners without hesitation.

We had a great short break at Clare and Richard’s. The flat is spotless and well equipped. We walked up Kentmere Pike, only a 20 minute drive away and enjoyed gentle evening strolls around the green. Superb information provided in the flat and hosts very responsive.

Lovely little bolthole, incredible location in the heart of the village. You’re a minute walk away from most of the restaurants, pubs and sights. Getting checked in was super easy and the place was spotless, thank you Nia!

It’s a cosy apartment with all the necessary amenities and more- good for a family of 3 or 4. Very accessible, 5 min walk to the railway and tourist info centre, with buses towards other parts of the Lakes right at the doorstep. Loved our feline neighbour as well :)

Abigail’s is the most beautiful home! We visit every year not only because of the home but because of Simone, the host is amazing!! She really is a 10/10 host, very easy to talk to, caring and very responsive to your needs! We absolutely loved the rooftop! Arriving to a few treats and a hand written card was a perfect start to our stay! The apartment was very clean and tidy, we highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay here at Whitbarrow. The apartment was lovely, with the special addition of the balcony overlooking the beautiful views, which we enjoyed with a cuppa or two. Our boys loved the toys and the drawing that was available to play with but, of course, their highlight was the pool. Local distance to Lowther, buttermere, Penrith, pooley Bridge, Keswick etc so lots to do. We’ll be back soon! 🙂

This was by far the best place I stayed while travelling in the UK for 6 weeks. Fiona greeted me on arrival and showed me how everything worked. She also made some great suggestions for local walks and cafes. The apartment is spacious, with modern decor and spotlessly clean. The host has provided everything you need for a very comfortable stay. It’s located within a few minutes of the shops and within walking distance to the buses and trains. Although it’s close to everything, it’s tucked away down a laneway so it’s extremely quiet and private. I highly recommend this apartment.
