Tiny house holiday rentals in James River

From the moment we first arrived, my newlywed wife and I absolutely fell in love with this cabin. Sitting just a few hundred feet northeast of the pinnacle of Sharp Ridge and overlooking High Knob to the east, this little mountain retreat is a close friend to dazzling sunrises and a bejeweled night sky, winding Allegheny roads and the sarcastically-named Dry Run, a whole host of critterkind and the timbers wherein they make their homes, yet a stranger to civilization, the worldwide web, and—of course—blue waters. In our case, we wanted to disconnect from the technocracy in which we live and exclusively spend quality time with one another immersed in the beauty of nature, and we could not have dreamed of a better spot. Despite the isolation, the charming town of Franklin is only a fifteen-minute drive away and has plenty of groceries, gas, restaurants, and that all-important cell service. As I wrote in the guest book, West Virginia stole our hearts and this cabin was the mastermind.

Ilse's tiny house was just what we'd hoped for... peaceful setting, simplicity in a pastorale setting. Loved our walks down the lane and eating out on the porch. Ilse answered all our questions in a timely manner and made sure our visit was stellar!

Patricia was an amazing hostess. Very gracious made it a home away from home. It was hard to leave for our concert nearby. Very relaxing cabin,we even slept very well there. Normally we don’t sleep well when we are away from home.

We loved the large deck with incredible views! There is another property very close to this one so wasn’t as secluded as we had hoped but overall we loved our stay here. Go check out Eagle Zen Winery if you have the chance.

Great space and location! Given the space in this modern cabin, it had everything that we needed. We loved the privacy and remoteness, as well as the nearby trails.

My boyfriend and I came out here looking for a place to disconnect and Heartrock was the perfect place! Greg gave us a great hiking recommendation to Fortune’s Cove and Kim was so helpful and responsive. The place was so nice and the scenery was lovely. Bilbo the cat was even more friendly than we imagined and we enjoyed hanging with him. We did prep our own breakfast and dinner before arriving just due to the smaller kitchen but it had everything we needed. We took a stroll around the property and it was lovely. The water pressure here is also great. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back.

Amazing experience for my micro honeymoon here - very relaxing. Only note is that the hot water doesn’t last for more than 1 min

Staying at Eugene’s place was greatI. The view was beautiful! The cabin was super clean and welcoming. We were also a short ride to town. Absolutely would look forward to staying at this place again.

Kristen was a fantastic host! I booked a year in advance, and she was very helpful from start to finish. The stay was perfect for our out-of-town guest! Location, cleanliness and great communication was top notch!

The relaxin retreat was the perfect place to get away for a peaceful weekend. The views were beautiful and not far at all from some great trails in the blue ridge mountains. It was a great stay.

This place was everything we wanted for an overnight getaway!! Jordan is very hospitable and thought of all the details needed for an enjoyable stay! This tiny house is gorgeous inside and out! We definitely recommend it!

I did a random search for a long weekend getaway that was a drivable distance from home. I found the Sugah Shack and after seeing the photos and reading all the excellent reviews, I knew it was the place for us- not even knowing what to expect when we got there. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival -we felt "at home" with every need taken care of for us. The place was spotless and very clean- I am very picky too :) Everything about this home was wonderful. I wouldn't want to stay any other place in Afton. We plan to return annually as there is so much more we want to see and do. For those reading regarding recommendations while there- we took a 3 mile walk along the Rockfish Valley Trail, had dinner at Three Notch'd Brewery (decent burgers/chicken sandwiches, fries and a really good Old Fashioned and beer selection, we stopped by Veritas Winery which was really nice -equally good white and red options, we also ate at Devil's Backbone (5/10) and Bold Rock Cidery (5/10).

Brad and David were extremely responsive and kind. We were given plenty of recommendations around the area to visit during our stay. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to visit the beach or that's planning on going to Busch Gardens. I would happily stay again.

Meadow’s Edge Cottage was clean, wonderfully decorated, and cozy. It had all the amenities you could need. The surrounding farm was gorgeous and truly an amazing place to relax. Overall we had a great experience and would highly recommend Meadow’s Edge Cottage for a relaxing escape from the city.

We had a great stay, and I would call Cynthia the ultimate host. She was thoughtful and generous, and her home was adorable and comfortable. It was a great location. Loved all the history provided about the place.

What a gorgeous place! Felt like a private lake location but only a short drive to local eateries and things to do. Very clean place and incredibly friendly hosts. We look forward to going back and exploring the cool historical sites in the area. We spent almost our entire time parked in front of the water on the relaxing chairs so we didn’t see too much otherwise!

This cozy cabin is in a great location for couples or individuals looking to spend time in Charlottesville or explore the vineyards, distilleries, cideries, and breweries on the beer trail. The welcome guide included great local spots to check out. We had a great weekend and would stay there again.

We had a perfect stay at the Freedom Cottage. It may have been our best Airbnb stay yet. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well thought out and very comfortable. I really enjoyed the history behind the cottage/land and the dining recommendations left in the coffee table book. The bed was incredibly comfortable which is rare when away from home. The location of the cottage was close in proximity to nearly all attractions we visited during our stay. Highly recommend Freedom Cottage to anyone visiting Williamsburg. Tara was a great host!

We loved our stay here - everything was so idyllic. The animals were such a delight to hang out with. We loved having Little Bear and Sheepie guiding us around the woods. We had everything we needed to unplug and explore nearby, and Chi and her family are amazing hosts. They helped us remove a small wasp nest near our cottage exterior. The breakfast (especially the korean short ribs and coffee) was wonderful, and Chi and her family showed us their lovely angora bunnies and donkeys before we departed! We would love to stay for longer next time. This is definitely a wonderful place to be!!

This is the perfect, private little getaway. It was in an adorable little neighborhood. It was exactly the quiet getaway location I needed.

This is the second year in a row that I’ve come with my dog Phantom to Kristin and Kara’s cabin. This trip is always exactly what I need to reset myself and spend some quiet time with my dog. The space has everything you need, and the hosts are kind and gracious. I will definitely continue returning.

What a gem! Such a peaceful location with incredible mountain views. Home is adorable and well appointed. Slept SO well on the comfy bed with great linens! We especially enjoyed the two patios/porches, including the firepit - amazing vistas and mountain breezes. Had a great soak in the clawfoot tub. Perfect for a cozy mountain getaway and great location to Lexington, the VA Horse Park and access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and many outdoorsy activities. We loved how pet friendly the farmhouse was for our pups as well. Are already planning our next visit back!! The fireflies at night and the clear views of the stars will live on in memory. Checkin / checkout was a breeze and Patrick was a very kind and accessible host. Definitely recommend!
