Kid-friendly holiday rentals in Scottish Borders

As many have said this is a lovely place to stay, it has real charm and character you can almost imagine the people that have called this home over its long history. It’s appropriately decorated and furnished in a style fitting its heritage yet still has all the modern conveniences that we love. Situated at the opening to a beautiful park it was just perfect for our dog, it’s also only a 10 minute stroll into the town for restaurants etc. Sam was the perfect host, very responsive and helpful with recommendations. I would highly recommend this as the perfect place to stay

We give the Water Tower 10 stars! Susan is remarkable! She has clearly thought lovingly of every detail of one’s stay, with great care and attention. What a rich experience! She and Gerry are warm, welcoming, generous and engaging, and yet also sensitive and respectful of individual needs for privacy. We felt so fortunate to be able to stay at their place and to get to know them a little bit! The fridge was stocked with milk, spreads, fresh fruit and a welcome bottle of wine, the cupboards with biscuits and homemade bread and muffins. Plenty of teas and coffees. A pleasing array of soaps and lotions and toiletries. Gerry’s beautiful paintings line the walls of the Tower, as well as the plans for the renovation, as he is the architect who brought this magical spot to life. Susan, a fine biologist, shared her gardening expertise , and we were happy to tour with her. Truly, we could not have felt more welcomed, nor more cared for. They went above and beyond. We are happy and grateful!

We loved Anna and Tom's place, it was the perfect spot for us. Beautiful accommodation in a peaceful setting. We really appreciated their recommendations for kid-friendly, local activities (the playground in Innerleithen and ice cream shop was a real hit!) We have family living in the area so hope to come back and stay again soon. Thanks!

We, a family of five, enjoyed wonderful four nights in the lovely House on the Hill which was exactly as described. A great plus was the tennis court, that was very well received by our children. Walking the dog was a great experience. We used the farm cottage to explore Scottish Borders, Northumberland and of course Edinburgh. We would certainly come back and highly recommend this lovely place!

This was a great holiday, away from the bustle of city life. The house is beautifully located and very comfortable and homely. It is close to the beach but at the same time private and quiet - except for the sound of the sea! There are some lovely trees and bushes in the garden. The coast , cliffs and inland countryside are all very attractive and it is easy to get away from people if you want to. Helene has is all respects been a considerate and informative host, being proactive in contacting us and seeing that we were OK about arrangements and settling in. We spent 8 nights at The Gegan, wish we could have stayed longer - we would love to return in the future.

A perfect little bolthole for a break in our long journey. Easy to find and really central just off the High Street - also free parking nearby. Flat was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a super meal out and also seeing the band and horses out for the Thursday Night Chase, part of the Common Riding. Very much recommend Neil’s place - superb value.

What a lovely place to stay. It is flawlessly clean, very convenient to everything, very well equipped and quite comfortable. Georgina and Alistair were responsive, inviting and friendly. 100% we would stay here again!

Lovely stay at the flat. Very quiet and had a great night’s sleep. Its location is great at the heart of Kelso walking distance of the town centre and restaurants. Host was really helpful and very quick with responses. I would happily stay here again when I next visit kelso.

The Stargarzer is the perfect getaway, comprising of luxurious accommodation; tranquil surroundings and great dog walks, with the additional bonus of a superb local pub just a stone's throw away.

Our stay was lovely, this was a great space with plenty of room and everything we needed. Very handy bike room, living space was great and rooms were super spacious with plenty of storage. Easy access to the river and forests with lots of mountain biking and walking right on the doorstep. Close to pubs, cafes and shops by foot, and short easy drive to Peebles for more amenities.

We stayed at Piers's place as an overnight stop on going further North. Despite seeing the pictures on the listing we were amazed at the beauty and sheer size of the apartment; the high decorated ceilings, original wooden panelling, gorgeous oriental rugs & tapestries, pictures and artefacts from many different countries, plus a modern and extremely well equipped kitchen. I have never had a choice of 4 different ways to make coffee before! I chose the delongi which was perfect. A truly wonderful experience.. highly recommended!

Sarah was very responsive, polite and friendly from our enquiry to book to the day we checked out. Met us outside the property, showed us in and left us to it. Recommended local bars/food and went over and above in the flat with little touches like tea, coffee, extra towels, shampoo/showergel, bike cleaning equipment and pump (which we had forgot) Perfect for biking, excellent safe bike storage, gorgeous village with few minutes walk to the shops restraunts and bar. Thankyou Sarah, if we are up that way again I would re book.

This was the perfect sleepover for a walking weekend in Kelso. Sadly, we were only here for one night but would definitely come back for a longer stay as we felt there was so much more to Kelso than we had the time to discover. The flat is in a very central, but quiet location, making it ideal for both walking in the countryside, and for dining out.

We had a great 3 night stay at Anna's place, as a base for visiting family. The flat was cosy and relaxing with lovely decor. The hamper was a great unexpected touch. Anna was very helpful and responsive to messages, we would stay again.

The entrance to the location may not be the most beautiful but for us it was fine. We traveled by public transport and the location and Galashiels are centrally located for this public transport. In addition, the Aldi was a 2-minute walk away and, Kirsten makes the difference! The apartment is fully equipped and everything, really everything is there, from herbs to washing powder, so...arrive, install and ready to do your own thing. After 2x orienting, we had found the hiking trails. Wonderful!!

Highly recommend Tara's place! It was a very clean, well-equipped home during our two day stay. She was easy to find and provided much info on the area and our home which gave us great comfort and independence during our stay. Check in and out was very easy and Tara was a very good communicator. We enjoyed our stay, and Tara, very much and highly recommend her place.

Great value Airbnb. Very well equipped. Lovely to get breakfast products. Beds were comfy, Inc the sofa bed. The outside space was a bonus. Great walks. Straightforward bus service to explore further afield. Lots of local walks, pubs and food options. Rosie couldn’t do enough for us. A great weekend. Thank you Rosie.

A wonderful place to relax, retreat and enjoy peaceful days. The stunning fireplace and log burner made it extra cosy. The bed was extremely comfortable. Because of my neurodegenerative illness, reduced mobility and pain, I need to have easy access and a comfortable environment. That’s exactly what I found. For those in wheelchairs or mobility scooters: the old railway path, where tracks used to be, is such a lovely place for an outing.

Quirky place with loads of space and character. Very clean and well set up too. The arrangements for key collection were very convenient and Alec who let us in and showed us round could not have been nicer or more helpful. We felt we had had an experience, rather than just an overnight stay. The building itself is a real one-off and has the look of a fairytale castle. Would recommend highly.

Absolute gem of a place. Everything was perfect. Immaculately clean and well equipped. The host was so supportive. Can’t wait to return to this one. Probably the best pad I have stayed in for a long time!
